Thinking of buying a new/2nd hand phone and was lookin at the evo 4g, it sez its locked to sprint network-I assume this is a u.s.a network as iv not heard of it in the UK? If it is,is it possible to unlock it to use in the UK on T-mobile...if not,is that the case with all evo 4g mobiles?.....If anyone has any better ideas for me I.e different phone or you have one of similar spec for sale please let me know, is the evo a lot better than the galaxy s i9000 not the s2. And if you've used 4g,isit really 10 times faster than average 3g..thnx in advance.

The evo 4g cannot, it does not use a sim card. If you want to import a phone I'd first suggest looking through t-mo US phones then last resort would be ATT but you wouldn't get 4g with an art phone or even 3g, just edge.

I personally think the HTC Inspire 4G is the best Android device out there on the ATT network, but was curious what the consensus is (if there is one). My son is interested in getting an Android soon and wants to know what the current top model is on ATT. Slightly related, are there any new models coming down the pike for ATT that might be worth waiting for?
Imspire is your best bet. My buddy tried the atrix and ended up with the inspire. Like i told him in the first place.

The problem with the Inspire is that it is year behind. I bought one and ended up giving it to my son. It's not 4G. It's very slow browsing even slower than my Samsung Galaxy S. Also, it has no 2100 MHz band for Europe (if you travel there) and no front facing camera.
I'd wait for something better. I'm waiting for the Infuse which is due out any time.

Anybody have any luck porting a Infuse over to Cincinnati Bell?
I seem to only get the Edge network and can't receive MMS (even after trying 247,987 different settings....)
What a fantastic device and I sure would hate to lose it.....

What bands does Cincinatti Bell use for 3G? If they use the same bands as T-Mobile, this would explain the Infuse being stuck at EDGE. There is no way around this.
They use the same as T-Mobile so it will be edge only.
Yeah it is the same as tmobile. 1700/aws is the typical band for their 3g I'm pretty sure.

Gentlemen, thanks for the info.
I was fairly certain that was going to be a hard limitation. I just wanted to run it by my XDA friends before I had a visit to eBay.
I was given this by AT&T as a “gift” if I would stay with them and admittedly it was enticing since I actually found the Infuse as close to perfect for my needs.
Oh well “eBay meet my Infuse…..”
Ps – anyone want to make a recommendation on a close replacement out of these choices (or what to avoid);
HTC Panache
Huawei Ascend
Samsung Vibrant
Samsung Nexus s 3g
Dell Streak 5
Motorola Milestone XT720
Tmobile actually has a goods selection of nice android phones like the gtx2 galaxy s 4 and some others which should work nicley on cincy bell. But if tmobile merges with att idk if they will tell bell to find a new frequency or if since they are local att won't care thinking it won't clog up the data bandwidth too much. Then you'd do all this for nothing you know what I mean lol

If you liked the infuse, the vibrant is going to be very similar, possibly the nexus s as well. Personally, I would grab a tmobile HTC sensation from the marketplace on here or eBay for 350-400 or so and use that.

I would avoid Huawei at all costs. Their policy on updates is, "Want an update? Buy this slightly modified variant of the same device you already own." and "Accessories? What accessories? That dock connector is just there to look pretty and sell tablets to idiots like you that don't know us yet."
Yes, I'm a VERY bitter S7 owner.
Hello everyone,
As you can see I am a newbie and this is my first post. Excuse me if a thread like this was made before, but after searching on the web I recently found out that I can use my E71 sim card on AT&T phones. I would like people's opinion on which phone I should buy? I also hear from fellow students that CES 2012 just happend. Should I wait for the new phones or just purchase a phone that is out now?
Thanks and much appreciated
Depends what you want, how much you can afford a month and how much your willing to spend on a phone. If your looking for prepaid virgin mobile is good, they have the motorola triumph, htc wildfire s, lg optimus v, lg optimus slider and samsung intercept (all are android) look up some planes on the internet, at&t prepaid is good but metro pcs has nice 4g phones and android phones, I see you want to no whats the best phone from straigt talk, i dont no much about the phones but check out metro, virgin, and at&t
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
Well I just read up on how ST has a loop hole and you can use mainly AT&T phone and some T-Mobile phones with the right 3G frequencies. I was willing to spend no more than $250 for a phone, but I don't know how long the loop hole is going to be open so I don't want to spend a lot on a phone and it not work. I was looking at the Atrix but various sites aren't every accurate when it came to comparing it to the Infuse or Inspire and other phones.
Do u want prepaid? For 250 you can by a nice prepaid phone
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
Straight Talk offers 2 android phones. The LG Optimus Q and the Samsung Galaxy Precedent.
If u want more android for prepaid id say metro pcs or virgin mobile
HTC Wildfire S (VM) "s-off" "rooted" Stock Rom
From what I read can't I just use any phone from AT&T and use my sim card on it? The phones from ST are entry level android and I want a full fledge android phone if there is such a thing.
Yes, you can use any AT&T smartphone on Straight Talk, I did it for about a year. For under $250, I'd try and get an AT&T band Nexus S, an Infuse, or maybe a Galaxy S2 if you can go an extra $100 higher. It's definitely worth the extra cash.
My local Walmart thinks there will be a new Android phone available in February 2012 for Straight Talk, any idea on make/model? or if worth the wait?
Look at virgin mobile, 4g is coming this year but all there other Android is 3g

I have been doing some reading and is it worth buying a 4G phone, since ST doesn't use 4G yet. Until they upgrade their bands?

I think you're missing the point of the OP. He's not asking for recommendations for carriers, or phones on other carriers. He's only interested in StraightTalk, and since ST's GSM phones (at least, the E71) runs on AT&T, you can just stick the E71's SIM card in an AT&T phone and use it. He's asking for good/cheap AT&T phones to run on StraightTalk.
So, to answer the OP's question, I would probably try to go with a Nexus S (look for the AT&T band one, like entropism said), or maybe a used iPhone 4.
OK, not even sure if this is the right place to post this question or not... But I am switching to T-Mobile (Small Business Plan $49.95 unlimited plan without phones) So I am buying my own phones.. I am trying to figure out what phones I can get that will do there 4G network, I think the network is HSPA+
I have been looking on eBay for phones, found a bunch of unlocked phones from over seas, just not sure as far as what ones will do the 4G, they list 2G and 3G and the different bands but have 4G in the title...
I am tired of big phones, I have the HTC Evo no, I want to go back to one the size of my old HTC Inc....
I wish there where career specific forums on here. Thanks for any help!!
Kyle
Most unlocked phones from overseas will not get AWS bands which t-mobile uses. The Galaxy Nexus will get 4G..but for the size you are looking for, I would go with an HTC Amaze. Make sure it is the T-mobile version.

Thanks. I actually have my friends HTC Amaze phone that I was testing to make sure T Mobile service was better then Sprint in all the places I go (It is much better). It is a little big... The Samsung Blaze isn't to bad, but feels a little cheap...

If you want a high quality decently specced phone, you aren't going to be able to find anything smaller than the amaze...
The Blaze seams pretty good as far as speeds go. The Amaze feels alot better because it is heaver... I guess worst case I could just go with the Blaze.. To bad I couldn't get one of those Casio G Shock phones to work 4G, that thing looks indestructible!!
I decided to go with the Samsung Exhibit ll, it looks about the same size as my old HTC inc
I had a T-Mobile G2 from launch and just about killed it. I had to get a phone out of necessity and got the Samsung Galaxy nexus as a temporary replacement.
I really do not like this phone lol. I miss sense and was holding out in hopes of T-Mo getting the HTC one x+ but that didn't happen.
So I pose the question of should I get the T-Mobile one s or get an unlocked one from expansys or just wait it out. I live in an area that was refarmed to 1900mhz so I could get the one x+ or even a droid DNA if I manage to get an unlocked one.
But with those last two choices I'd have to be able to live with 3g instead of HSDPA.
I think I could probably get a free upgrade since I bought this phone unlocked from Google but I can't make up my mind. I also can't stand aosp anymore though. I really want sense lol.
Thanks in advance.
