[Q] WP7 Mango on iPhone - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
i've been using an HD2 with a variety of android and wp7 roms! However, i got nostalgic and fixed my original iphone 2g. And i'm very happy with it.
But here's the thing: iOs seems dull after using the graphical sexy wp7. And after searching these forums i couldn't find my answer so here's my question:
Is there a possibility that the new WP7 Mango can run / be ported to the original iphone? And do you know if anyone's already working on it?
Would love to have it, even pay for it!

I doubt it. The processor and graphics card would not be able to support it.
However, it is plausible that it might work on an iPhone 4.
Alternatively, there are tweaks on Cydia which themes your iPhone to look like WP7 and you may like to google or YouTube that.

Anyone think there will be WP7 on the MT4G?

I have been eying the mytouch4G and the HD7 for a while now and what I really like about the HD7 is that it has Windows Phone 7 (which seems nice and it seems to have nice gaming support)...so I also noticed the MT4G has better specs, so I was wondering if I get the MT4G, I would like to put WP7 on it if possible...anyone think its possible or anyone workin on somethin like that already?...or is it a stupid idea? haha...let me know
-thanks!
Windows? Oh man, no way! I came from an HD2 and the HD7 looks so ugly. IMO
But the developers here just might do it.
myTouch4G (Glacier)
Windows mobile is closed sourced like Sense UI, they can't port it due to lack of drivers that would be needed to make the phone work. But that doesn't mean you can't put android on WP7 phones, you can put android on Iphone too.
Yeah, but he's saying he likes the mT4G specs.
Looking at the HD7 i think it's pretty sweet looking - more true to HTC's "usual"design vs the (previously lame & teeny) myTouch models, and similar to the HD2. I'm just glad the Glacier feels so solid or I'd be looking at the HD2 or keeping the Vibrant.
This isn't a WP7 discussion, but unless MS releases regular & beefy updates you're going to be stuck with the likes of orig Android or iOS 1.0 - it appears to be lacking quite a bit, but if MS keeps on it then it may have a chance. If you're that interested in WP7 then consider the HD7 and put Android on it to boot.

I think you are referring to Windows Mobile....the HD7 does not have windows mobile like the HD2.. the HD7 has Windows Phone 7 (MS' new mobile operating system)...It looks pretty nice and smooth and is built upon specific specs which helps control quality and efficiency...also the gaming support its proclaiming is nice also as the MT4G has great specs (except the 'LCD' screen haha), but it does not have the gaming support for that level of hardware (at least not yet)...
S o my concern here would not so much be to put Android on the HD7 (which should be pretty easy considering the HD7 has basically the same hardware as the HD2), but my concern would be more of whether I could (or would be able to) put WP7 on the higher specc'd phone (the MT4G in this case)...but hearing that they use proprietary drivers makes me think it might not be as easy to put WP7 on the MT4G....
No!!!

will there be WP7 on the MT4G?
jp, hahah..sorry... I just figure that nothing is impossible, so while some may say no...some may still try but I now understand how difficult it may be and why some may say no...
I know that when WM was MS's mobile OS, I did not see any natively Android phones bothering to boot up WM, but since WP7 is seemingly such an improvement - I was thinking maybe the tables may turn...?
Thanks for all the responses though...interesting stuff..
Wp7 an improvement over Android...?
You should probably just return any and alll phones you have for an iPhone with that outlook....

you should probably just return all of your school supplies now and for the rest of your life for a decent education in reading...
the statement says that WP7 is an improvement over WM...
and that since Android was a nice alternative OS for WM, now maybe Android users might think that WP7 might be nice to try out on their phone (or somethin along those lines)...
well you will do what you like...
but i cant even imagine perfoming such an atrocity

In my case i'm torn because I am a dev. I love android OS and dev on it as a hobby but I am a .net / windows developer as a trade and its really much easier to dev in .net (Visual studio is 10x better than eclipse) than c++ or Java IMO so I too would like to have the ability to stay on my sweet android os, but boot over to dev when i need to. yes yes, i know i can do emus, but its not a substitute for running on actual hardware.
Considering that the myTouch hasn't even been rooted yet I would say putting any other operating system on it would be a helluva feat!
This turned into a spiffle... I am almost afraid to jump in, but.... I got to. I think the ability to put WP7 on the MT4G would be friggin sweet. Now, now... I know some of you think "Why would someone want to do that"? Because we do, ok?
Freedom of choice baby! It's a beautiful thing!
Edit***
Just searching around for some Home apps and stumbled across these win 7 launchers.
Windows Phone Android Lite - haven't tried yet...
7 Launcher - Running now.. a little slow but eeehhh.. it's ok.
Android Seven Lite - Not WP7, rather Windows 7 emulator. Looks decent...
Sorry to reopen such an old thread~
But heres a link to a stable WP7 rom for the mytouch4G, if anyone was still looking for it. Its very smooth.

That's MIUI with a WP7 theme
If Microsoft went open source, the possibility of WP7 is slim since I assume you'd need to port the drivers to work.

[Q] Best Smartphone

I am trying to decide on a new phone. The carrier is not an issue, I've had a rooted mytouch, a rooted nexus one, stock evo4g, and currently now have an epic 4g. Multimedia and apps are very important to me, the iphone4 looks good, but my current phone my be better. Am thinking about a windows phone but don't know anything about them. Any suggestions?
If you are looking to mod/play with your phone do not choose a winmo7 phone.. Not quite yet. It simply is what it is and they are so new the apps are not there yet. As far as apps the iPhone in sheer quantity has the most but Android is where the devs are turning to more and more. There are also a lot of apps on android that are not on an iPhone. The new Nexus S is an amazing fast device as I have been playing around with mine and the SAMOLED with its curves and anti smear screen IMO out plays the iPhone4s smaller not quite as bright seeming screen. I work at att and see the thing every day and still feel Samsung has really got the best screen (apps). Windows has done well with this new operating system but is still very new, Apple will be Apple, blackberry is great for non-Gmail email and Android will let people play with what they wanna play with. Depends totally what you plan on doing beyond media and apps
I say go for the HTC Leo. Great perfomance, great screen, and it runs WM 6.5, WM 6.5.x, Android, and soon hopefully WP7

The branded galaxy S phones have the best multimedia support but you already got one so...
Best apps however, go for an iPhone 4. Unfortunately, you can't have the best of both worlds.
samsung galaxy S
Blackberry 9700
Blackberry 9700 Bold.
If you like to experiment with different OS buy Leo and if you don't like it, soon you'll like
HTC of Iphone, anything else is a dissapointment
Well if you don't mind waiting this summer there are going to be a ton of dual core phones our for us to choose from.

[Q] WP7 - a mistake?

hello friends, i have been using WP7 for almost 7months... now i kind of regret for having chosen WP7, bcuz of lack of apps n customization... i just saw my friends Android and it was so damn cool... the app selection is the best n apps have control over the phones vitaal functions like messaging ( u can replace native inbox) , start screen n so on...
now what i wanted to know is any user here who has used Android n WP7, i request your suggestion; is Android really good or though there are many apps is it not stable ?? which do u feel is better ??
You can use the search button and read through all the existing threads. Otherwise all people will do is repeat what they said before and within a day there will be huge arguments. Seriously, use the search button.

Everything is a mistake if you don't research before you buy. Like buying a 2 door porshe when you have 4 kids . Hope you learned your lesson.
I dont even think about Android anymore now that i have mango, super sleek!
Yep. Android is cool. It has all those cool stuffs. Sold my hd7 cause i need a phone that can do wifi tethering and android phones are the only phone i know that can do it right. The only thing cool about wp7 are the smooth UI but it kinda gets boring...

Apps will become less and less a problem
A ton of new HQ apps have been released:
- IM plus (expect it to be mastered once Mango gets officially released)
- FB (now supports push)
- Vevo (!)
- AccuWeather
- Kik
With Mango:
- Spotify
- Skype
(hopefully whatsapp as well, they have the API's they need now)
plus all the other stuff like multitasking all works really great and the ease of use and productivity will increase significantly.
What more does one need, now we can also have unlimited sideload apps on Mango. Its worth the wait, it will only get better once nokia will release its mapping apps and stuff.
Some of the apps can be replaced on android because the native ones are crap, with wp7 you can ask yourself do you really need other apps or do the native ones just do their job fine.
You can install Mango and give it a go... if you still dont like it, restore back to NoDo and you will still have your warranty.
In my experience Android can get laggy, drain battery and be a bit unstable at times with apps crashing.
WP7 on the other hand is smooth and easy to use.
I don't miss any apps from Android but you may have different needs.
Get Mango on it, you'll soon change your mind.
WP7 is in it's infancy so of course it isn't going to have as much as android or ios, but it is growing.

Yeah once Mango gets here he should be mostly satisfied with WP7 (since push notifications will actually work and the internet browser will actually be useable)
Also, all the "cool" stuff you're seeing on Android... It has no use. Is changing the SMS interface really necessary if the Messaging hub already works really well? It's fun to screw around with that stuff, but that's all it really is.
WP7 is how a true 'smart' phone should be. Quick, slick and beautiful in it's own way.
If you want customisation... buy an Android phone. But Android is laggy and bloated. Yeah you can change almost anything, but it feels as if the device is 'fragmented'.
WP7 has a smooth togetherness which I love.
Thumbs up MS. Keep up the good work. Mango beta is far from perfect, but MS seems to be listening to it's users!!!!
This is a loaded question...
However...
Once one decides if the limitations that the OS have make it difficult for you do the things you NEED to do it's a pretty easy decision.
Mango does indeed take the things that WP7 did and make it even better. There's not a lot of change in the deep OS strategy though. WP7 is about content and not computing.
You cannot customize it to your hearts content because the UI is built on a standing principle on UX.
Android = computer emulation
WP7 = Mobile empowerer
You can do a whole lot more on Android and it will probably stay that way as Android continues to push the limits. WP7 is more polished, more refined, more dedicated to its useful purpose. It is also much more locked down. Android is more green fields, do anything you want and how you want and with that strategy comes good at everything, master of none.
Excellent analogy. Very well put.

Great reply!
I avoided Android because of these opinions but honestly right now it is quite refined too.
It is somewhat true WP7 is having better workflow that other OSes but for me lack of features and quite boring UI after some time disappointed me.
As it was written here so many times, WP7 does it's job in some areas in elegant way.
However Mango may be the first finished and more refined version of the OS. Currently it's quite poor IMO. And quite illogical to be honest.
If I would be someone to give advice, I'd say wait till the end of the year and drop it now unless you're a dedicated MS enthusiast.
As for the above analogy - I prefer computer emulation than.
I had an omnia 7 for 6 months and now have a desire Hd. I loved the omnia and windows phone 7 for a couple of months, but I became tired of waiting for the "march" update and brought a dell streak, which within a week the screen and glass broke So got the desire HD. I have to admit I'm loving putting custom roms on this, but looking at the vids and pictures and demos of the mango update; I'm seriously considering buying one of the new set of devices, mango loaded of course. Looking at the rumours of a 16mp 4.7inch 1.5ghz HTC wp7 device, that may draw me in Wp7 is so refined and i have tried out the ie9 browser in mango and it is seriously at least twice as fast as any android browser I've used, and 5 times faster than the crappy safari browser on my ipod touch.

Far from it. The reason we'll probably never see webos or wp7 on the nexus s is that neither of those os's are fully open source like android, in fact wp7 is completely closed source.
webOS was ported to the Evo 3D but virtually nothing worked from what I remember, making it far from useful, useable, or anything past booting really.
Ios - Never been ported to anything non-apple (as far as I know).
Meego - Possible I guess, but I dont know why anyone would bother putting that amount of time into it.
WebOS - Looking possible, its going open source i hear, but the nexus S community is only going to decrease due to the release of the Galaxy Nexus
Windows Mobile - Dead
Windows Phone 7 - This was ported to the HD2 as the HD2 was used as a test phone for the OS and the drivers got leaked! Microsoft used it as it was a high spec Windows Mobile phone. (It got android as it was very similar to other HTC phones that ran Android, such as the N1 and Desire)
Ubuntu - I guess, probably wouldn't be too hard to get going, why anyone would want to I have no idea.
BB OS - hahaha...
so.... no interest.

Thanks. Looks like reviews are terrible for it though. Sigh.
I used to have it on my WinMo HD2. It was more of a gimmick to me, but some people like it. I think google or someone bought the company out & made it android exclusive. I could be wrong though....

Skype did get bought, but not by Google. The problem is the WP7 doesn't officially support third-party SIPs, so Swype didn't make one for the platform. Apple has the same restriction. It's not that Swype has become Google-exclusive officially, it's just that there's no other smartphone platforms left.

Would third-party SIPs (such as Swype) be usable with a custom ROM or root access?
It's really hard to completely change wp7 standard keyboard to other. That's why even now there's standard keyboard in custom roms.
Well, you'd have to replace the keyboard binary with a different one that supports the same interface. This could be done in a custom ROM, I suspect - Swype may even be drop-in replacable, since it was meant to run on WinMo and some of the lower level stuff on WP7 has a fair bit in common with WinMo (even if the kernel is very different). I'm not a chef, though, and don't know the tricks and difficulties of ROM cooking.
Allthough I desperately hope for something like swype on WP I'd rather not have the winmo port as that was terrible. I hope there will be some real development sometime.
