Thanks. Looks like reviews are terrible for it though. Sigh.
I used to have it on my WinMo HD2. It was more of a gimmick to me, but some people like it. I think google or someone bought the company out & made it android exclusive. I could be wrong though....

Skype did get bought, but not by Google. The problem is the WP7 doesn't officially support third-party SIPs, so Swype didn't make one for the platform. Apple has the same restriction. It's not that Swype has become Google-exclusive officially, it's just that there's no other smartphone platforms left.

Would third-party SIPs (such as Swype) be usable with a custom ROM or root access?
It's really hard to completely change wp7 standard keyboard to other. That's why even now there's standard keyboard in custom roms.
Well, you'd have to replace the keyboard binary with a different one that supports the same interface. This could be done in a custom ROM, I suspect - Swype may even be drop-in replacable, since it was meant to run on WinMo and some of the lower level stuff on WP7 has a fair bit in common with WinMo (even if the kernel is very different). I'm not a chef, though, and don't know the tricks and difficulties of ROM cooking.
Allthough I desperately hope for something like swype on WP I'd rather not have the winmo port as that was terrible. I hope there will be some real development sometime.

1. Android is an OS, not a device.
2. No it hasn't. Not possible.
1. I know it is an OS and not a device but it has been ported to run on Android devices in this case HTC Magic (Or atleast recreated)
2.Nothing is impossible, Yes they have a locked source but people created it people can recreate it

Then you probably should have said ported to the HTC Magic. Otherwise it just sounded silly. Just saying.
I personally do not think that is iOS, but a knock-off of the GUI running on top of probably some Linux variant or Android. I have personally seen some in China, and the GUI seems like a pretty good reproduction of the original. But is was nothing more than a reproduction of what iOS looks like.

That's great
- The background in the task pane doesn't seem quite right.
- That's running awfully snappy for a HTC Magic, especially since iOS doesn't have Qualcomm drivers (and closed-source, etc.)
- iOS won't let you delete the Phone app.

If Android on iPhone can be done on sure the reverse can be too.
Not sure why you'd want to though cause a new development idea (called monodroid) is being worked on by Novell so apps can run on all smartphones. Or at least be MUCH easier to cross platform. I think they have already made this for the iPhone.

No, Android is open source, iOS obviously is not. Which means that, to port iOS to, let's say the HTC Magic, someone would have to rewrite it all from scratch.

This is NOT iOS.
This is just a skinned Android to look alike iOS.

not really, creating an emulation of an iphone to run iOS is totally possible and more likely to be done then recoding iOS, however, this looks fake, so i do agree that it hasn't been done.
But never underestimate determined developers, if they have been able to run windows 95, and/or ubuntu on android devices, or running Mac OS X on PCs running AMD, emulators to run older Mac OS on pc, emulators to run older games, emulators for private servers for games, I'm completely sure they can figure out how to get iOS running on an android devices without the source code of iOS itself, just give it time.
Ok...........
First of all, MUIU DOES NOT, I repeat DOES NOT work like this. Nobody in their right mind would write all these functions from scratch just so they could pretend its iOS. Why on god's earth would you write a weather app that functions, and looks exactly like Apples? Same goes for calculator and finance.
I honestly have no idea what to think. This has the exact same applications, functions as iOS. But the weird thing is that the wallpaper scrolls with each slide... This definatley is not MUIU, though.
This is way more than just a skinned launcher with a set of apps, but I'm not convinced it's an ACTUAL port of iOS (because that seems insane?).
It seems more fesable to me that this is a port of one of the Chinese clone iOS offerings. There have been a lot of iPhone clone phones on the market for a while, and some of the software has become quite sophisticated, it's more than possible that one of these UI's has been ported to the Magic (as it's a good bet that more than a few of these clone devices run on Android/Linux anyway).
Notice that he doesn't open the App store, or Safari, or the music player. Definitely NOT actually iOS, but certainly something I would be interested in seeing ported to other devices!

I have been eying the mytouch4G and the HD7 for a while now and what I really like about the HD7 is that it has Windows Phone 7 (which seems nice and it seems to have nice gaming support)...so I also noticed the MT4G has better specs, so I was wondering if I get the MT4G, I would like to put WP7 on it if possible...anyone think its possible or anyone workin on somethin like that already?...or is it a stupid idea? haha...let me know
-thanks!
Windows? Oh man, no way! I came from an HD2 and the HD7 looks so ugly. IMO
But the developers here just might do it.
myTouch4G (Glacier)
Windows mobile is closed sourced like Sense UI, they can't port it due to lack of drivers that would be needed to make the phone work. But that doesn't mean you can't put android on WP7 phones, you can put android on Iphone too.
Yeah, but he's saying he likes the mT4G specs.
Looking at the HD7 i think it's pretty sweet looking - more true to HTC's "usual"design vs the (previously lame & teeny) myTouch models, and similar to the HD2. I'm just glad the Glacier feels so solid or I'd be looking at the HD2 or keeping the Vibrant.
This isn't a WP7 discussion, but unless MS releases regular & beefy updates you're going to be stuck with the likes of orig Android or iOS 1.0 - it appears to be lacking quite a bit, but if MS keeps on it then it may have a chance. If you're that interested in WP7 then consider the HD7 and put Android on it to boot.

I think you are referring to Windows Mobile....the HD7 does not have windows mobile like the HD2.. the HD7 has Windows Phone 7 (MS' new mobile operating system)...It looks pretty nice and smooth and is built upon specific specs which helps control quality and efficiency...also the gaming support its proclaiming is nice also as the MT4G has great specs (except the 'LCD' screen haha), but it does not have the gaming support for that level of hardware (at least not yet)...
S o my concern here would not so much be to put Android on the HD7 (which should be pretty easy considering the HD7 has basically the same hardware as the HD2), but my concern would be more of whether I could (or would be able to) put WP7 on the higher specc'd phone (the MT4G in this case)...but hearing that they use proprietary drivers makes me think it might not be as easy to put WP7 on the MT4G....
No!!!

In my case i'm torn because I am a dev. I love android OS and dev on it as a hobby but I am a .net / windows developer as a trade and its really much easier to dev in .net (Visual studio is 10x better than eclipse) than c++ or Java IMO so I too would like to have the ability to stay on my sweet android os, but boot over to dev when i need to. yes yes, i know i can do emus, but its not a substitute for running on actual hardware.
Considering that the myTouch hasn't even been rooted yet I would say putting any other operating system on it would be a helluva feat!
This turned into a spiffle... I am almost afraid to jump in, but.... I got to. I think the ability to put WP7 on the MT4G would be friggin sweet. Now, now... I know some of you think "Why would someone want to do that"? Because we do, ok?
Freedom of choice baby! It's a beautiful thing!

Just searching around for some Home apps and stumbled across these win 7 launchers.
Windows Phone Android Lite - haven't tried yet...
7 Launcher - Running now.. a little slow but eeehhh.. it's ok.

Dear all,
I know that's possible to install Android on many WM phones, however I'd like to know about reverse operation. Recently there are many android phones with strong hardware in market, so it would be interesting to see how wm works on these phones. although I think most of the time new versions of microsoft software looses many basic needs and get worse than before, I still prefer WM to android. I have checked Desire HD, but its UI, i.e. android was too confusing to me!
I don't know, I know a lot of people who used wm and android and they think Android is much easier to use and provides more (including me). On the other hand I understand what you would like to know. I have a Spica and I'm curious about how it would work with WM as the older phones have weaker hardware then mine and Android is a bit laggy sometimes, but I would NEVER change my os to WM (and while developers think like me we won't have WM on Android phones).

So my question is can it be done, not if or why but can it be installed. Android
already runs on omap and I think the moto droid is simular.
Hm. I seem to be using an on-screen keyboard on a daily basis. And... No apps? Ehm. Well, I think maybe you should just switch to an Android phone and save some time, ours as well
Eventually hackers will become restles and get other platforms booting on the Pre, but for now web OS suffices.
The point would really to be to boot WebOS on other phones, not the other way around!
Oh i have no doubt that that will happen too, but hackers being hackers curiosity will get the better of them,
Mark my words, once HP release their X86 web OS platform you will start seeing it on every device imaginable.

These phones are very good to port different OS on them.

Far from it. The reason we'll probably never see webos or wp7 on the nexus s is that neither of those os's are fully open source like android, in fact wp7 is completely closed source.
webOS was ported to the Evo 3D but virtually nothing worked from what I remember, making it far from useful, useable, or anything past booting really.
Ios - Never been ported to anything non-apple (as far as I know).
Meego - Possible I guess, but I dont know why anyone would bother putting that amount of time into it.
WebOS - Looking possible, its going open source i hear, but the nexus S community is only going to decrease due to the release of the Galaxy Nexus
Windows Mobile - Dead
Windows Phone 7 - This was ported to the HD2 as the HD2 was used as a test phone for the OS and the drivers got leaked! Microsoft used it as it was a high spec Windows Mobile phone. (It got android as it was very similar to other HTC phones that ran Android, such as the N1 and Desire)
Ubuntu - I guess, probably wouldn't be too hard to get going, why anyone would want to I have no idea.
BB OS - hahaha...
so.... no interest.
