ClockWorkMod Issue - HTC Inspire 4G

I have HTC Inspire
I updated my clockwork mod today to the v5.0.2.0. I installed to try a new rom.
I went to turn phone on and phone stuck on HTC screen. I go into recovery.
I cannot do anything in recovery. Everything i select takes me to the little black hat picture with a oranage round circle...like a loading screen. It just sits there.
I cannot boot my phone...i cannot do anything atm.
I am at a loss.... HTC Sync wont recgonize phone i guess because it wont turn on?
I do not know what to do now.
Please advise if anyone has any idea.
Thank you

First thing to try is to pull the battery out. Then put it back in and try rebooting the phone. See what happens after you try that and post back the results.

thank you for the reply.
yes that was the first thing i tried. Even left it out while i went to lunch to see if time might have a factor. No luck.

How did you update clockwork? Did you use Rom Manager or a PD98IMG.zip file? I know Rom Manger did have a few issues lately with updating clockwork incorrectly. You could try updating it again using a PD98IMG.zip of it.
And what does "everything" include in clockwork that you have tried that you mentioned in the first post?

Thank you for the reply. everything...means everything. the first boot screen you select an option and then it take you to the recovery screen. anything i select there just brings up the clcokworkmod black hat with a circle..if i press the select button again it takes back to menu...
I tried doing a zip i saw somewhere else. you see i cant even get access to my phones sdcard on my computer. i had to take my sd card out and put it in a friends phone to add a zip file to the root directory. i didnt do the file you mentioned. i did the file PB99IMG with failure...
omg that reminds me i was suppose to rename it.......
now im looking and cant find the thread that said i was supposed to rename it
could you please tell me?

Well you just can't rename something and expect it to work the same way. Not to mention I said the name in an earlier post. Have a look at this thread and see if it helps you. Gene Poole also posted a PD98IMG.zip recovery there. I just said it again. PD98IMG.zip

[Q] problem after ace hack kit accessing networks

I am having some bizarre problems after running the ace hack kit to root my Inspire HD. Basically after running step 3 3 S-OFF, SuperCID and More
I cant get access to internet, ie browser, google network etc.
Phone works, sound is ok.
I tried to restore to stock and redo. but I've gone through this loop a few times. and now I'm stuck in no-mans land. cant get completely back to stock and cant get to a full root.
problem originated the first time through when I did not uninstall the HTC sync - I didnt realize it was running as I only installed for the driver.
Then when repeating, I got an incoming call during the process. I think this disrupted the script.
Any ideas

It might be because you are still on the downgraded rom and radio...which if you stopped after step 3, then you probably are
Try flashing this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
It's a rooted stock rom with all the updates, should get everything up and running...then from there you can flash a custom rom if you prefer....
I'm actually kinda stuck between the two. not rooted so I cant run clockwork to flash, but not stock so the root script doesnt run clean.

Well that rom can't be flashed using clockwork.....you have to flash that one through hboot....
So if you boot into hboot at the very top it should say whether you are s-off or s-on...if your s-off you are good to go...
If you dont know how to get to hboot...its easy...
-turn off fast boot
-shut down phone
-turn on phone by holding down the power button and volume minus button at the same time, and hold it till the hboot screen loads..then release.
thanks
I have S-off, and I know how to get into Hboot, but I've never used it before.
I've been doing the trial and error thing and its not working too well....
so let me ask a few questions.
I take it that the rom.zip has to be on the sd card. doest the SD card need to be formatted in a specific way?
does the rom file need to be named anything specific?
once I get into Hboot, I believe the optin would be to select recovery.
Will that give me a prompt to select the rom file?

Instead of answering each specific question..I'll just post the steps, which should answer all your questions....
-Download the rom, (I would suggest the one that allows for side loading, but either is fine)
-rename the zip to....PD98IMG.zip (it has to be named exactly that)
-place it on the root of your SD card (meaning not inside of any folders)
-unplug you phone from your computer
-boot into Hboot....when you get there, dont press anything, just wait...it will automatically locate the zip....the first 2 attempts will fail, then the 3rd one will work....it will then ask you if you would like to update
-push volume up to update
EDIT: no need to format the sd card and when flashing a PD98IMG.zip, you never go into recovery....
EDIT2: once you get this flashed, you can then then download rom manager from the market, and flash clockwork recovery....which will allow you to flash any of the other custom roms using recovery....
If you're S-OFF, then you don't need anything special with teh SDCard (gold card not needed with S-OFF). Just rename the file PD98IMG.ZIP and be sure it is in the root of the SDCard. Don't worry too much; this method is more foolproof than others as the HBOOT does sanity checks on the image files in the zip and won't flash anything but the correct image to the correct partition.
Thanks guys, this worked. I'm back in business... trying not to screw thinkgs up
-my previous experience was rooting a nookcolor, which was a whole different process, since the SD has boot priority.

[Q] rooted success but roms abort

I successfully rooted my inspire today and i believe to have successfully loaded the following rom: (in order to upgrade the radio from the downgraded one)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
when i try to load another rom i get an error saying it failed or aborted.
i also notice that with the above rom i have no internet access. (just shows bars and no E, 3G, H etc) this is causing a problem because i cant get flash clockwork mod to work, its trying to find an internet connection, even with wifi connected i cant get it to load. (or any other internet page)
ideas?
It sounds like the radio probably didn't upgrade. There may be some other issue causing the abort of other ROMs
Also, if you don't have clockworkmod, how are you attempting to load other ROMs? Most are CWM ready, but some are sent as PD98IMG.zip compatible which requires that you indeed have S-OFF.
Check your HBOOT screen (pull then replace battery, hold volume-down then press power-on) and make sure it says S-OFF at the top.
i do have clockwork mod. but at the moment when i try and go to flash clockworkmod recovery it says i dont have a stable internet connection, wifi on or not. Actually i just got it to work.
it does say s-off at the top of the bootloader screen.
"ace pvt ship s-off"
The only reason the rom is getting aborted is because the file is corrupted or you didn't Download it completely.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
i dont think i failed to download it properly or that multiple roms are corrupt, but let me throw this at you...
i use a mac, and when i download a zip file it automatically unzips it then i rezip it. could this be where the problem is occuring?
i have no idea why it automatically decompresses the zip files. ill look into it though.
ive fixed the auto unzip and im going to try and flash the stock rom/radio i posted earlier in the thread. ill post here in a few min as to what happened.
now it looks like its doing something!
it appears to be flashing properly. it asked if i wanted to start the update etc.
ill let you guys know the results in another min.
That's a good sign. HBOOT does some sanity checks on the PD98IMG and won't load unless it like it.
it worked, i can tell the radio is proper now. it picked up the microcell immediately. also, ill just say this, whoever all created all this rooting apps etc are absolute genius's. it blows my mind. lol

That sounds like you are flashing something through the HTC bootloader not CWM. I don't know of any ROMs that are flashed this way. They all should go through CWM. Did you flash CWM on your phone through ROM manager?
i was told in another thread to download the bloat free stock att/updated rom/radio and install it first by renaming it PD98IMG.zip and running bootloader screen.
afterward i can use the rom manager to install roms apparently.

Strange, you may have had other circumstances that required something like that. It will work that way but you need to have CWM on your phone. Were you ever able to flash it successfully? Have you been able to boot into CWM by selecting recovery from the bootloader screen? Note, if you have that "PD98IMG.zip" file on /root of your SD card you will not be able to scroll down and select recovery. The bootloader will always try to "update" if that filename in present.
hhhmmm i notice that after i downloaded rom manager, fixed permissions and restarted it that i have no cell service. rom manager appears to be stuck as well, all i get is a hat with a circle/arrow symbol.
is there a chat room i can get in with one of you guys?
its stuck in rom manager i can use the up/down arrows and the power to select but it doesnt do anything. i cant remove the battery because the cover was put on by the incredible hulk.
okay got battery out. good grief!

Are you in ROM Manager or CWM? ROM Manager is just the app that flashes CWM recovery to your phone. Are you stuck in the black screen with orange text?
it was the black screen with orange text.
i have installed cwm onto the phone, used it to backup the current rom (orignal att, no bloat, good radio)
everything is back up and running and looks nice, signal is fine etc.
at this point can i use it to load a new rom from zip/sd card?
Ok, just saw your last post. You can disregard all of that below. Glad it is working for you now.
Ok, that is CWM recovery.
It sounds like it didn't flash properly or something since you couldn't select any options in the menus. Try re-flashing CWM from ROM Manager and then boot into recovery manually(don't use the boot into recovery option from ROM Manager). Power the phone down. Hold volume down and press the power button. You should be able to scroll down to the recovery option in the bootloader and select it. It will then take you back into CWM. (Make sure that PD98IMG.zip file is not on the /root of your SD card or the bootloader will try and install it and you won't be able to get to CWM recovery.
Just make sure you can move around the menus and just select reboot the system. Then you will know that CWM is working properly and you will be able to install ROMs from there.
i think what happened is i accidentally told it to go into recovery, thats when i got hung up. i think the rom/radio from the pd98img.zip worked fine. ill test as you say.

[Q] Using official HTC unlocker for Sensation, Help installing Cyanogen

I recently "unlocked" my HTC Sensation 4g through HTC's official method. However, after successfully unlocking it, my phone is still set on S-On. Because of this, I am not recognized as a superuser, and so I cant boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery. Can anyone who knows more than me about this please give me a hand? This is my first time attempting any of this.
to make sure i understand this correctly- your phone now says "unlocked" at the top,but is still s-on?
what have you done to root?
once you have a truly unlocked bootloader, you can install a recovery thru that bootloader, and then flash superuser in that recovery.
having superuser permissions within a rom and being able to boot to a recovery shouldnt have anything to do with the bootloader.
if you are unable to install clockwork,or some other custom bootloader thru htcs "unlocked" bootloader, then they have lied to us... its not truly unlocked. that or something happened during the unlock process, possibly.
sorry im not of more help, its been awhile since i looked at the developer website. are there support forums there?
if everything is functioning correctly and you cant load whatever you want thru hboot, this unlock program is a joke. you could have gotten s-off with revolutionary or an xtc clip and not alerted them to the fact that you were messing with software and potentially "voided all or parts" of your warranty.
please keep us updated on this- im very interested to know how it turns out.
Thats exactly what it says. The method I used is on the front page of the htc dev site.
(the forum wont let me post outside urls yet)
The top of my H-boot screen says
"*** UNLOCKED ***
PYRAMID PUT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.80.0000
eMMC-BOOT"
So this is a problem. I think...
I just figured the official method through HTC would be the easiest and safest
Oh and when I try and flash Clockwork Mod Recovery through ROM manager this is the message I get
"You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superusuer was not found at /system/bin/su or /system/xbin/su. Use Google Search on your computer to find instructions to root your phone."
or
"An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands."
So what have you done to root besides unlocking the bootloader? Just tried to install rom manager and clockwork?
Unless you have done something else, you are not rooted, you are just unlocked. Search the sensation forum for a PxxxIMG file that is clockwork recovery. When named that, and placed on root of your SD,hopefully your hboot will find and flash it.
Once you have done that, delete the PxxxIMG From your SD card, and place the superuser.zip file on it. Enter recovery thru hboot, and flash superuser.zip.it will install the root files.
After that you should be rooted.
Later I can try and find some links if you can't find them. PxxxIMG will be specific to the pyramid,I'm not sure what it is. For example, this type of file for the thunderbolt is PG05IMG.
Hope that helps.
edit:
here are some links for you:
download clockwork from here or multiupload (found the download in this thread)
download from one of those 2 places. rename the download "PG58IMG" and place on the root of your sd card. boot to hboot(power+vol down). when asked to update chose yes.
download superuser from here (this is the one i always use. found it here)
after deleting or renaming PG58IMG from your sd card, put the superuser.zip, boot to hboot, select recovery, then flash the superuser.zip.
hope it helps
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Well I tried what you recommended and it did not work. But then I tried revolutionary and I managed to get s-off. However HBOOT doesnt recognize the P58IMG file. It just keeps saying P58IMG.*** NO IMAGE. (*** being different file types).
Im not sure if I need to try the recovery now that Im s-off but I cant flash the superuser file either.
gah! i wish you hadnt run revolutionary yet,as now we wont really know if your "unlocked" s-on hboot would have allowed the flash like a truly s-off one will.
one thing i know for certain,is that the troubles youre having werent because you were s-on. being able to place the superuser app,aND matching binary within the OS is not dependent on the hboot being s-off. s-off is handy,as it allows another method of flashing partitions like the radio and recovery. in the old days, before all the exploits were patched, alot of devices were rooted and a custom recovery installed from within the OS without ever bothering with the bootloader. the eris is a good example- prolly 95% of the eris community is still s-on and they change roms and such all the time.
-so i guess you downloaded the PG58IMG from multiupload? when i tried the first link, there was no valid attachement.
-you did name PG58IMG,correct? if you did name the file "P58IMG" maybe thats the prollem?
-make sure your SD card is formatted FAT32( not just plain FAT) and make sure you put the file on the root(not inside another folder)
*assuming you named the file correctly, have a FAT32 sd card, and placed the file onto the root of the SD,what happend when you went to hboot?
heres what should happen: the green writing flashes, hboot finds a PG58IMG file, then youll see a blue status bar on the far left as the phone unpacks it,then gold as it checks it. since the recovery file is small youll see that very fast. then you should get the "vol up to update" prompt.
if you have named the file correctly,FAT32 card, etc. maybe you just got a bad download. try downloading it again.
i downloaded and checked it- it contains a recovery image and an android info file,so it should be good to go. if you want to verify the integrity, the md5 i got is: 940fa14af3dcd055132adf292f668ad3
last and not least,if you ran revoltuinary it should have installed clockwork for you. if you dont want to keep messing with PG58IMG files, just run revoltionary again. it should detect your s-off,then ask if you want to install clockwork.
im sure youre getting a lil fustrated, but the method for rooting new phones is what im reccomending you to do:
1)unlock bootloader(revolutionary or htc unlock)
2)install recovery thru bootloader
3)install superuser files from recovery
it does work,i promise... ive done it many times on my thunderbolt.
Awesome, everything worked great. I had a few hitches but I figured them out. Thank you so much for all the help, I really appreciate it.
Until just now... I installed cm7 and now when i boot up my phone all I see is about 6 seconds of the cm7 start up animation (the one with the blue android guy on a skateboard). Then the phone starts up that same animation again. Its been doing this for about an hour now.

sounds like you didnt do a full wipe. pull the pattery,go back to recovery thru hboot, and wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik chache, and format /system. i dont usually format /system,but when youre stuck in a bootloop it cant hurt

[Resolved] [Q] HTC Desire Stuck in Fastboot - Noob!

I know its been asked plenty of times before, but everything I found either didn't work or I didn't understand...
So before I start, I'll apologize ahead of time for any annoyance or stupid questions, cause I'm gonna need some explanations.
I'm on an HTC Desire (U.S. Cellular) rooted and S-Off. Earlier today it was working fine. I went to restore a ROM backup through ROM Manager that I had and everything was going ok. ClockworkMod Recovery started to install the backup, but after a couple seconds it looked like it froze. I waited a while and I proceeded to do a battery pull (I've actually had to do this many other times when installing roms, and I never had problems). Right as I took the battery out I saw the Desire's screen, and it was just starting to continue the installation as I pulled the battery.
No problem, I thought. But when I went to reboot my phone, it took me directly into Fastboot. So I pulled the battery again, and the same thing happened. I cleared my storage with no luck. And after searching countless threads (like I said before), I either don't entirely understand what people are suggesting or their suggestions aren't working.
That's when I decided to join XDA to get a personalized answer. Can anyone help me with this in a (very) explained/easy to understand way?
I don't know if it will help, but here's what the HBOOT menu says at the top:
-Revolutionary-
BRAVOC DVT2 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.06.1002
MICROP-051e
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-2.15.00.11.16
Thanks in advance!
You need to find a .zip of the current ROM you're running and install it from ClockWorkMod recovery (if you can access it and have it installed). Seeing as you can still access Fastboot, all hope is not lost just yet
As much as everyone likes making backups, they really introduce a lot more problems and quirks than they're worth A clean flash each time, while more work, produces better, cleaner results. A lot of the issues people see relating to flashing and bugs have more to do with restoring their app/system backups than the actual ROM itself!
Failing that, you'll need a stock US Cellular RUU (ROM Update Utility) from HTC to return the unit - including recovery, bootloader and radio (you'll lose S-OFF too) - completely to stock. Extreme, but often when you find yourself stuck outside the OS it's better to go back and start from scratch
If there's anything else you need let me know!
Good luck!

As far as the first method, I just drop it into my SD card on my computer correct? Under computer is D: Recovery (I'm on Windows). Would I drop it in there or in the Recovery folder within it?
Also, when I'm in CWM Recovery and I select any of the options, the ROM Manager icon pops up (its normally just a watermark). This has been a common problem for me, I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong.
I'll work on the USCC RUU as well, at this point I really don't mind if I lose everything as long as I get it working again!
Thanks for the help!

Yep, grab the .zip and put the SD card in a reader. Once it shows, just paste it onto the card (root directory, not in any folders). Then boot into CWM and 'flash zip from SD', 'choose zip file' and flash away.
I wouldn't stress about the icon popping up, as long as the recovery is doing what you're telling it to
My most recommended option is the RUU. It'll sort out all your quirks, it just takes a little while to get everything back the way you like it. The benefits are there, though

Ok, I'm downloading the stock 2.2 RUU now (hopefully that's the right one?). As far as CWM Recovery, the icon pops up and that's all that's on the screen, until I press the power button again and it brings me back to the menu. None of the actions work at all.
Anyway, I'm hoping this RUU works. There aren't any other pre-requisites that I need for this, are there? I just download it, run it, and bam?

Sounds like your recovery's corrupt or something, too.
Nah just stick the phone in fastboot, connect, install drivers (if necessary) and run the RUU. It should fix everything else for you

[Q] HELP sensation flashed ROM wont start

Hello, first I would like to apologize as I am clearly a noob and have very little idea of what I am talking about.
I'm sure my problem has been asked before and that if I had any idea what the problem was, I could find the exact solution I need here on the forums. Unfortunately I don't even know what to search for. If any one would like to complain go ahead but please..just help me.
So I decided to root my HTC Sensation, which I believe I did without any problem, I followed the guide on this site. Nothing went wrong and as far as I was aware everything was working fine.
I then decided to flash a new ROM onto the phone. I chose the Android Revolution HD as this looked to be the popular choice. I got it from here and I believed I had followed the instructions on how to install it properly.
However, after installing the ROM I came upon a problem, the phone would not start, it would just go to the HTC boot screen and stay there forever. At first I couldn't even get back to the hboot screen, but after inserting a new and better charged battery I was able to get there, but every time I do it attempts to update and says " CID incorrect! Update Fail! Press <POWER> to reboot." and I cant do anything but get stuck in this continuous loop.
If I take the SD card out I can access the HBOOT properly, however trying to do a recovery at this point doesn't seem to work.
I have no idea what to do and would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I would be happy to just have my phone back to the way it was originally.
Thanks
Might wanna try a RUU? not sure but hopefully it should do..

First off your MAJOR issue is that you flashed a rom for the Desire HD section(As soon as I clicked on your link, it said Android Revolution 7.0.2... I was like wtf? There is no 7.0.2 on the sensation forum) ... I think that's the prob... for now! Flash the correct rom and stay in the right section!
Second, I don't see why you can't get into recovery. Remove your sd card, power on the phone by holding vol-down +power to get to bootloader, select recovery and flash the right rom. I would also recommend that you delete the P58IMG.zip off your sd card as well. I'm assuming you have it on there for the ICS firmware but flashed the incorrect rom. You are far from bricking it, but keep this up and it might turn into one!
Thanks, your post is certainly reasuring though I am still not sure how to continue. Also it is possible I gave the wrong link to the rom I used, though it definitely was the same name.
Anyway what Im thinking I have to do now is 1st delete p58img.zip file from my SDcard and put the right rom on there, could you link to one?
So by removing that file I should be able to access the SDcard again and flash the new rom?

This is an ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) Rom
So you need:
1) SuperCID (so that you can flash any firmware)
Instructions
2) Flash the ICS firmware (otherwise you can't use the ICS roms)
http://goo.gl/RcbMy (and make SURE that there aren't any errors - errors such as not doing the SuperCID process correctly, therefore it can't flash - I say this because it seems like many users think the firmware is flashed and then find out their rom won't start, so don't be stupid and check whether or not an error has occurred just incase!)
3) Pick a rom
Revolution
Elegancia
Insert Coin
4) Flash the 4EXT recovery, I'm sure you already have clockwork mod on there but I think that's a bit buggier... so if I were you, I'd go for the 4EXT touch recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377759
5) If you wish, you can also flash for example: tweaks and addons by awsm devs which make our phone much better if you wish!
6) you're good to go! It's that easy.
Yeah, all you have to do is remove that P58IMG.zip from your sd card and your bootloader won't force you to update or w/e. You'll be fine.
And don't forget to md5 check for roms you download !

Thank you very much. It seems I hadn't performed the SuperCID part. Once I had done that I installed Elegancia and it is working perfectly.
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me.
