Android "email" app - connection problems to Gmail - General Questions and Answers

This problem seems to have been around for 2 years now, but I haven't found any resolution online.
Using the "email" app on my Motorola Photon (the one with a @ inside an envelope)...I constantly get a "connection error". This is configured for gmail.
Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. It seems to be a problem regardless of whether I'm on wifi or 3G. I have Sprint, if that matters.
I don't know what's going on. The email app is configured to use iMap push.
Should I set it for pop email server instead, and just tell it to poll the server every hour?
Thanks.

I''ve had a similar issue with my boyfriend's phone. All I did was uninstall all the updates for the app, reset the phone, and then redownload the updates for the app. Seems to keep it working at least for a while.

New Infuse 4G

just switched from HTC inspire to the infuse. I rooted my infuse the very first day. My problem is that it will not auto connect to remembered wifi specially my home wifi. I have to restart the phone all the time. Another problem is that my yahoo email doesnt sync right away with my phone. Last one I got was at 11:37PM and i had a few that came in overnight. Unlike my inspire once the email was rcvd it will also sync with my inspire
any suggestions?
Thanks
I just switch off the wifi and turn it back on..... No need to restart the phone i guess... Yes, not all times it connects automatically...

You are using the included client called "Email" ?
while the program is open, try clicking the menu button, then choose "account settings" and check out "check email frequency" and "email notifications"
Wifi: Have you played around with going to Settings: "wireless and network" / "wifi settings"
This is a common bug found on the Infuse. Everyone I've talked to has the same problem. Once the Wifi connection has been established, it won't be able to connect to another router. What you can do to solve the problem is to turn the wifi on and then turn it back on. This way, you can turn the wifi off when you're not using the phone and it'll save you battery too. Hope that helps!
What you need to do is hard reset your phones

That's horrible advice, when turning off wifi and turning it back on is more than sufficient.
It seems to be a fundamental power management problem with our wifi chipset that seems to affect EVERY device I've used with said chipset. My Galaxy Tab 10.1 has the same problem.
Screw Broadcom. I hate them.

Try "forgetting" your home connection and then connect to it again.
I only experienced that problem once and found that it was actually my router not my phone.

I tried that and I still have to refresh everytime I open my email. Do they have any widget just like the HTC inspire email client?
Is there a way to stream netflix and play it on your tv?

The native email app is horrible. I had the same issues and installed Kaiten mail. Its worked flawlessly for my yahoo and gmail accts.
To stream netflix, just use your hdmi adapter. then set your usb settings to media player. It will streams just fine. I do this all the time and it works great.

LOL. I went to At&T earlier and the guy told me that my LED indicators are not working so he told me to call Amazon. I called Amazon and they sent me a new one.
I'm just reading the manual now and it is not a LED indicator its actually a proximity sensor lol.
Is there any way to change the primary shortcut contents?

Need help for a friend - Touchpad e-mail issue

Hi,
I have a friend that has the touchpad and she set up a few e-mails on it. When she switches between wireless networks (like home to work, etc) e-mail will no longer sync unless she completely reboots the tablet. We've tried throwing away the e-mail app (whatever that is where you slide the app up to close it) and we tried putting it into airplane mode and back and nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Fixes?

Do you mean the stock email app? (not that I have used any other!)
I have several accounts set up in mine and they work flawlessly so far.
You mention restarting the tablet, did you try just a Luna restart?
Is there a difference between the networks? Is one open and the other WPA2 or something?
I have seen something similar when going from one network to another, where the wifi has to be switched off and on to flush the settings for the network.

Whats up with Push notifications in Mango?

Ive had my Omnia 7 with Mango RTM for about 3 weeks now and one of the most annoying things about it is the terrible UN-reliabiliy of push notifications. I don't care much about weather tiles or tweets but this things is utterly and completely useless for email.
Ive tried using both my @live and @gmail accounts set to "as item arrives" but it seems to only work for the first email. So many times i randomly check emails on the desktop to discover 3-4 new emails (sent 2hrs ago) and glancing on my phone there is none. It just says (email is up to date)
Anyone with advice please share otherwise its one of those things i cant cope with, might have to sadly go back to IOS. My iPhone 4 had "functional" email
Is ur data connection turned on? My email is working fine

Yes, i have excellent 3G signal where i live. Full bars
Wifi is also turned on but tried using data only and still push stop working after a few emails.
Considering 99.9% of users have reported extremely reliable push in Mango, including myself, I think the issue may be with your wireless carrier maybe dropping idle connections... Or another signal issue.
I have my Gmail set to receive every 15mins. Have you ticked the 'email' check box in 'content to synchronize' in Gmail settings? Otherwise I aint got any ideas. All my email accounts update on the start screen fine.

Yep, my e-mail notifications work perfectly fine. No issues here. Sometimes, I get so many e-mails, my phone is too attentive to this fact and it gets annoying, but hey, at least that means its working.
i wasn't really hoping to hear positive news about push, means its just me
my latest setup is to have my phone @live id push everything but unticked the "sync email" and then created an outlook email account with the same @live email that syncs email, calendars etc with push
what does the "logging" bit have to do with email? its in email settings (off -recommended, basic, advanced)
my push works fine but just for the first few emails then for some reason it stops working. i wonder if its the constant connection/disconnection from wifi that trips it up
I have web.de...so it's a free email provider, too. Normally you can login every 15 mins at free mailproviders. My phone uses mango beta 1 and it loads every mail I get. Maybe you have set up something wrong...

I've had this happening before on Nodo. I figured out I wasn't deleting enough emails, keeping loads of them as read for no particular reason and at some point the inbox on my phone would get full and stop synchronising. Happened about 3 times since I've had the phone and I solved that by deleting plenty of emails on the phone itself before doing a manual synchronisation.
I'm not saying it's the solution but that worked for me.

Same WP7 device, same eMail accounts, same problem, and I also have an iPhone 4 with full working push notification!
I'm trying to let them work... Keep in touch...
I have LG Optimus 7 with Mango RTM. Push notifications worked fine before Mango for both personal @live and corporate exchange mail. After Mango update push notifications has worked similarly as the first post describes (hasn't worked properly).
Today I manually added APN setting in mobile network settings and after that push notifications has worked. So for me the problem seemed to be a network connection issue, even if I was connected to WiFi.
Before Mango I had not touched APN settings in this phone and 3g did work.
It's worth knowing battery level also affects push reliability - to save power it turns the channel off when the charge is below around 25%.

I've two battery, so I never enable battery saver...
I'm waiting for the Hotmail event in San Fransisco and NYC: if tomorrow emails will not arrive in push, I'll hard reset my WP7... :-(
In this two days, sometimes emails arrive in push, and sometimes not. Also, if I manually sync, sometimes it gives 2-3 different sync errors... :S I hope that is a server problem that will solved soon... :-\

I went to the snapchat support page and went to report new problem under the "cant send snaps or stories" section but at first i couldn't log in to report the problem with snapchat because of course they blocked my ip so your gonna have to go to the link with your phone with your data off or with someone elses wifi. Your then going to want to report what your problem is to their developers and in less then like 5 hours it was working again. I hope this helped cause it worked for me.
Also i got rid of beta cause i think thats a bug in it that it blocks your ip cause of "suspicious" activity.:good:

Hello to anyone still maybe struggling with this. I personally had this problem and tried to entire messaging them about it - to no avail. That being said I believe I've figured it out. I always felt it was my wifi seeing as mcdonalds wifi worked just fine. Hence I finally went into my wifi settings (super convoluted with different extenders and dmzs and ports forwarded to pacify all house occupants) and on a hunch changed my dns settings at the modem level to googles from opendns-2 which was my primary. I left my secondary and tert alone (level 3-r1 and qwest-2 US respectively). Instant results. the only reason I had changed my dns to that in the first place was because a program had analyzed my connection to find what was supposedly the fastest. And while I feel it probably was, the primary was for some reason screwing with snapchat/ig and sometimes fb. anyways I hope this ends up helping someone somewhere out there.

So just to make sure you went in to your routers settings and changed the dns from what it was originally to google's DNS? Sorry for not understanding I'm just trying to recreate what you did to see if it could fix the same problem I'm having. Also if you have any advice on how to change the DNS in the router settings I can't find them for mine. Thank you!!
Hi! I'm having the exact same problem with snap chat and sending my snaps to others over the wifi here at home-- I called Telstra and they suggested contacting Snapchat- hav done that twice so far- selecting my issues etc then entering my username, phone type, email address and number then messaged them the details of my problem.. no response thus far from snap chat.. it works fine when u switch over to to 3 or 4G but no good over wifi.. wtf.. its so annoying!! Have plenty of data to use on wifi but Snapchat app just won't co operate.. I don't know what to do.. I need to know the exact steps to take to try fix it.. is there a way? I see Simone here has managed to do it changing to google DNS but I kinda need step by step help to get it right.. Thankyou in advance to anyone who can help me- and others too it seems who are having the same problem..
hope to get some help with this.. it's sooo frustrating!!
Cheers!
Nik
I'm having the same issue. I use talktalk as my isp. They are terrible anyway regarding speeds but i noticed that i couldn't refresh/use snapchat whilst on my home WiFi. I've checked my dns settings and it looks like my dns servers are already with googles free ones 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4...
Anyone know how to fix this issue?!!

Question Google Pay - Check your network connection

Hi,
Trying to set up Google Pay on my Samsung Watch 4 (model WH7R) and right after I select the account, I get this error message:
Check your network connection.
Please make sure that you're connected, and try again.
When I hit the Try again I immediately got the same error message.
If I hit Cancel then it will say Now Finish Setup On Your Phone but there is no app pop up on the phone.
Is there anything I should do to fix this? I have tried to reset my watch a few times. I have already set up Google Pay on my phone (Fold 3) and I am connected via both home Wifi and phone bluetooth.
Also WearOS app on my phone couldn't detect the watch (it is connected via the Galaxy Wear app), is that normal?
I have the very same "check your network connection" problem when selecting account on my Samsung Watch 4. Google Pay works fine on my galaxy s20 ultra mobile phone.
I have no idea what is causing this.

I have tried it for a few more days but ended up getting frustrated and returned the watch on Wednesday, it is a great watch otherwise (battery life is quite amazing) but I definitely need Google Pay to work on it since that's one of the primary reasons for me to own the watch.
GL resolve yours, for me I think I'll just wait to see if Google would eventually make a Pixel watch of some sort

I actually resolved it, thanks to this thread on reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyWatch/comments/pbsb08
The problem was really ridiculous:
I was using a Gsuite account, but Gsuite accounts do not work with the watch, only with the mobile phone!!!
Using a personal account (ie @gmail.com) fixed the problem.

Wow thanks a lot, I wish we could go back in time and I might have kept the watch Thanks a lot for sharing the tip though, that's really good to know.
I didn't use the gmail one as I have been using my own domain for many yso I'll try to see if can turn off mobile device management in my GSuite domain instead.
