Hey,
I've got the stock 3.2.1 image from this thread and I'm trying to figure out how to take a custom compilation of Tiamat's kernel and put in on there.
I'm willing to use Moray (2.2.1) as well if it is easier.
I've got the kernel compiled (using the config from Moray) and with my custom kernel configuration. (I could easily do this again with the config from the stock device if that would work better.)
How can I put it on the device? I have the zImage, CWM, ROM Manager, and root. I just can't find anywhere (been searching for hours) what I need to do in a way that will work for the stock image. It also seems that most of the other posts referencing this are somewhat out of date.
Please, any help would be appreciated.
(Edit: has it really been two years since I last posted?)

Hello! I am fairly new to the android scene (to rooting/using roms that is) and well, I recently installed the Skyraider ROM and well, I quite love it (3.0 Vanilla RC3) and well, everything... is absolutely perfect... except the camera.
Now, I have done extensive searching and reading and well, supposedly there is a "koush's kernel" that fixes the camera issue...
My question is.. where can I find this "kernel?" I have spent hours searching online and well, I found a couple of files but none that actually worked.
Supposedly the fix is in ROM Manager, but under "koush" there is only a "test" kernel, which needless to say did not work at all and forced me to do a clockworkmod nand restore.
I looked on the CyanogenMod 6 that the camera works perfectly, and the kernel version is 2.6.32.15-ga81a44fkoush koushik-OSx86 #4, so I partly assume that would be the kernel I need to install, but I can't find it anywhere. The "test" one in ROM Manager is named similarly, except "...dirtykoush koushik-OSx86 #6"
Tried it... didn't work, at all.
Everywhere I look says that the fix is on ROM Manager, but unless I have missed something, it is not there...
Some help on this would be greatly greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!
My new G Tablet is charging overnight before I flash it ... so while I was checking out my ROM options, I got a little turned around regarding the bootloader. I know that some ROMs are for 1.1 and some for 1.2, but I haven't seen anything about upgrading/downgrading between them.
My new tablet is 1.1, right out of the box, which is to be expected (I think). If I wanted to use clemsyn's Beasty ROM, which requires 1.2, how would that affect CWM? Would I still use v08?
To upgrade/downgrade to/from 1.1/1.2, do I need to remove CWM? And if so, how?
I did some searching on the forums and haven't found anything yet, so I thought I'd post. I can't believe this isn't a duplicate question, but I can't find a thread with this info.
follow this guide to get to 1.2 bootloader 4349 firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039000
That will install the stock recovery which can be used to flash any roms. CWM just adds options, like partitioning, data wipes, backups, etc.
If you want to flahs CWM AFTER flashing Beasties, then you'll need the 1.2 friendly CWM. .8 will NOT play well with 1.2 You can find it on slatedroid, along with a lot more support for 1.2 roms.
if you ever want to play around with the Honeycomb port (Bottle of Smoke) then you'll need to be on 1.2. I'm running Brilliant Corners, which is a 1.2 version of Vegan 5.1.1, and I'm loving it.
Hi,
im wondering if someone can help me out.
I made a nandroid and installed a custom rom with custom kernel (Krakd) all worked great and am still toying around with it and want to go back to stock kernel. I put back the nandroid but am still on the roach kernel i found out that the CWM still doesnt backup the boot but will in a future version which i found out too late. Is there anyone who can get me a zip for CWM so i can put back the stock kernel for 8.6.5.18 ? Its the WW SL101 i have.
Thanks in advance.

did you get the stock kernel? I need the stock kernel too...
Or known some custom rom version that have no problems with the slider.
I tried the Revolver 3.9.5 but It can boot on my slider...
Thank you!!!
Does anybody have the stock kernel for the ASUS Slider ICS?
I tried flashing a Transformer Cyangoenmod and then flashing the Slider Comparability ZIP on top of that but there are too many problems. So, I reinstalled the backup I made before this started, but my tablet still says it is on the Cyanogenmod kernel.
Does anybody have the stock kernel for the ASUS Slider for ICS, know where I can download it, or would be willing to compile it for me from the ASUS website?
Thank you!
Chris Williams
I'm going to bump my thread with a little updated info.
I tried to flash the latest Stock ROM from the ASUS website by installing it on the MicroSD card. It installed just fine but it did NOT overwrite/update the Kernel so it's still trying to use the Kernel written by cyanogenMOD for the Asus Transformer.
The source code for the ASUS Slider Kernel is available on the ASUS website. I don't have enough posts to directly link to it yet unfortunately.
I do not have the expertise to take the stock source code for the kernel and compile it into something I can flash onto my tablet through ClockworkMOD. Can I please beg/donate to somebody to compile this for me? It's been asked for a few times throughout different forums so I'm sure it would benefit more than just myself.
Thank you,
Chris Williams
If I have time today I'll dl and compile it, I'm sure its in a thread somewhere though.
Otherwise you can flash Guevor's kernel which works great with stock
Thanks Thing-O-Doom. I'll be happy to be back on the stock kernel since the stock ROM is pretty darn close to vanilla Android and by rooting I've got the few functions I do use that are "advanced."
Do you know if Guevor's kernel works with the ASUS Slider also or is it just for the Transformer?
Thanks,
Chris
Bumping my thread with updated info.
I was experiencing a booting problem where the tablet was booting into ClockworkMOD by default but I didn't think the problems were related... they were. Because upon reboot it was going directly into ClockworkMOD it was not allowing ANY new install process to work. I discovered this when I tried to flash Guevor's latest kernel and it STILL said CyanogenMOD. Imagine my surprise.
So, I got the booting problem corrected and sure enough the new kernel installed just fine and appears to be okay for the moment so I'm back to having a functioning tablet. Yay!
If somebody would still be willing to compile the stock ASUS Slider Kernel for me and post it I will gladly donate to them. While Guevor's kernel does work I would prefer to be back on the Stock Kernel designed specifically for the tablet.
Thank you,
Chris
Hey guys, ok so I am coming from two HTC Heros (CMDA Sprint)
Was running cyanogenmod on both (me and the wife) loved it.
Now that I have the E4GT, I went ahead last week and used ODIN to install LoStKernel.
Now it did give me root and I have used apps like rom toolbox and setcpu.
My main problem is it seems these samsung devices are a lot trickier to tinker with.
Basically I am looking to get Clockworkmod so I can flash roms and make nandroid backups.
From what I have read, I need a kernel that supports and/or has CWM in it.
I tried flashing CWM with rom manager, and it installed - but I have no option to backup/restore I can only flash a zip or clear cache.
There are SO MANY things posted in the development section and I do not know which kernels are the latest, best etc.
I need:
a) CWM/busybox
b) overclocking support
c) FULL stock functionality (no loss of wifi or something stupid like that)
From what I am understanding the kernel is included with a rom. But I can't flash a rom without CWM. So I am rooted but stuck with stock rom and it's kernel.
Confused, lol!
Can someone point me to a proper thread to get me CWM and a well supported ROM to install? Can I get CWM working fully on the stock kernel/rom?
If someone can point me to the right direction, maybe I can find a developer to donate to lol!
No love?
At this point I'm just trying to get cwm. Seems I may have already had it just didn't know it came with lostkernel and now I botched it using rom manager.

You can actually flash a new kernel with CWM in odin
Thats the easiest method
There are several, as for the best I dont know yet
Im still tinkering with my setup
I guess that's my main issue - I can't find one that has CWM, everything I am seeing is a ROM that needs CWM to install.
If I had CWM I'd be all set because then I can backup my setup and try new things without worry, but I don't want to use ODIN to try a kernel that CWM won't take, or isn't there, and then lose what I have ya know?
All set, seems I flashed a kernel that wasn't what it was supposed to be. I apparently flashed his earlier version (pre-LoStKernel) that did not have CWM5 it it.
Just used ODIN last night to drop in LoStKernel and kept root, but also have CWM5 now. After clearing my SD Card, made my first backup. 1.5GB, jesus! lol. Nearly my whole SD card... yes, it's from my old Hero, so, time to get a 32GB.
I've got a rooted XT926 with unlocked bootloader. I've flashed plenty of custom ROMs on the phone including ones running 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3. I'm gradually moving back to earlier stock-based ROMs because, while the extra features are cool, I grew tired of random main functions that didn't work properly and my battery life was getting progressively worse.
Now I'd like to know for sure I'm running the stock kernel. How do I determine this? My kernel version is 3.0.31-g101ca72. The date of "Thu May 30 18:22:06 CDT 2013" also appears in this subheading of Settings/About Phone.
If I'm not running the stock kernel, where do I find it? I've done plenty of searching but can't seem to find a downloadable stock kernel that I could simply flash from TWRP recovery. Most of the posts of this nature are about unrooting and restoring stock. I don't want to do that. I want my phone to remain rooted but I'd like to know that I'm either on the stock kernel or can find it and flash it.
Not really sure how to check, but if you fastbooted back to stock you have the stock kernel. If you found a stock based ROM and flashed via recovery, unless stated otherwise in the post it should have the stock kernel. And have you tried arrrghhh's kernel? It works really well. It's for all msm8960 (or whatever msm we are) devices so it will work as long as you download the stock version.

What would be the point of using arrrghhh's kernel with a stock rom? Or, what does his kernel do differently than the stock one?
At the moment I'm running RageHD 2.3, a straight-forward stock-based ROM running 4.1.2. It's doing pretty much what I want -- everything works, smooth and solid, better battery life than I was getting with 4.2.2 and 4.3 ROMs and improved signal strength. Still, I read from time to time that custom ROMs tend to give improved functionality and lessened bloat but that they also shorten battery life, sometimes substantially. To test this myself I need to know that either I'm on a stock kernel now or that I can find and flash a stock kernel.
