Hi
Does anyone know where the files starting "thumbnail_photo" are stored.
I have tried deleting the thumbnail cache via Astro but there are still loads there when I do a Clockwork backup, which means it takes AGES!!
I know they are not a problem but they are a frustration!!
Cheers

I have an Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android 2.33. I put on Google+ app and that was a mistake. It created a folder in my gallery called Instant Upload [with 70 pictures]. I would really like to delete the folder but I am not able and I don't know where the folder is kept. I tried searching with windows explorer and couldn't find the pictures or where the folder is on my phone. I went to Google+ site on my pc and erased the pictures there but still can't erase on my phone. Please help.
Even i also have the same problem, i am not able to delete instant upload folder as well as profile photos folder too from my SGS2 mobile. I tried to delete all the apps and cleared all the memory from my SD card. The problem is i can delete both the folders but again when i open my gallery it ll show the deleted files again. So please help.

hi builder,
finally i found the solution for this, it sounds wired but it ll work 100%.
just follow the following steps, and before doing this i recommend u to take backup of all the data from your phone.
settings>privacy>factory data reset>check (format usb storage)>reset phone.
hope this will help you.

Thanks. It worked but it was a major pain. Google should have made it easier to get rid of. It is like using a bomb to get rid of a fly.
Hi. I just found out that apk files are kept in the device after installation of the app.
I just recently downloaded a file explorer app and I found out that the apk files of the free games which I downloaded and installed from android market are kept in this folder:
/mnt/asec (I'm using Samsung Galaxy Ace)
There are individual folders for each game, and in each folder are a lib folder and the apk file. For example:
Fruit Ninja folder (which is found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
Fruit Slice folder (which is also found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
My question is, is it ok to delete these apk files? Will the games still work?
Also, can I send these apk files to someone else via bluetooth so they may download the apps without having to visit android market?
yeah you can delete the apk file after installing any app for it to still function, I do it all the time. Yes you can send the apk file to your friend so they can install it. If you're still cautious, try doing a trial run with one apk file...send it to your friend first, then delete, see if it works.
The .apk files are like setup files for windows. Once installed, you don't need the apk, especially if you are backing up with Titanium or similar backup program.
follow up question
Hi. Thanks guys.
Is everything from the android market ".apk"? Is it possible that some have a different extension? I downloaded a dictionary app, I can't be sure but I think it's a .zip file.
Thank you.
pakattack
I tried to delete the apk file. It cannot be deleted.
However, I copied it to my sd card, uninstalled the app, re-installed it using the one already in my sdcard, and it installed just fine.
I still want to be able to delete the apk file that is in the system though (/mnt/asec).
Any ideas or do I just have to deal with it?
sending .apk signed with another device

I agree with deleting it won't be a problem but sending to a friend?
sometimes I think there would be a message stating that its not sign
correctly.. correct me if I'm wrong Thank You
WillShaka, like I said, I tried to delete it. I can't. Not allowed.
I don't know why. I'm using ES File explorer
not sure if this works but have you tried unmounting the sd and delete?

Also, and I don't mean to veer out of topic (this question is often ignored in Q&A forum), if I use Odin to upgrade my stock firmware instead of using Kies, will it erase all my data? I have a feeling it will...

Just tried it. Doesn't work, but thanks for suggesting. =)
Yes, you can delete the APK after installation. But the APKs in /system/app/ need to stay where they are to function appropriately

I use the All-In-One Toolbox app to automatically find and delete all .apk files. It also has an automatic backup and restore function for apps.
So my daragon city and messenger are in the apk files I don't know if its backed by another zip folder my tablet is the amazon fire so if I deleted the apk files that is downloaded for an android would my appe still work the same
I flashed my nexus s to 4.1 today. then I took a picture but then I found that..
the picture saved to "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/"automatically
what the fresh hell is "/storage/sdcard0/DCIM/Camera/" ? And I am pretty sure I didn't change any setting
Yeah, I haven't checked that in my phone but none of my media files are showing up in stock apps including gallery. There has been lots of threads in forums for the solution and I'm trying those one by one. There are many thread to link. Just google for "media in sd card not showing up in gallery jelly bean" I'm trying a few things. I 'll let you know if it worked.

Are you guys using a custom kernel?
Just snapped a pic and it saved to where it normally does. All my saved pictures are where they should be as well.
It looks like after 4.1 all camera files are being saved in /sdcard0. It shouldn't be a problem if all the files show up in the gallery. If there is a problem, there is a rogue file which is making the media server restart which is causing files to disappear. I did a format on SD and found the file by copying one folder at a time. If none of your files are showing in the gallery, I suggest you put a .nomedia file in all your folders, delete it one by one to find out the rogue file. Hope I had helped.
Hi,
I am not sure if this is in line with what you are saying but during the initial startup after flashing the update the phone finished updating applications then contacts database update and after that went to "media database" update!
I guess there might be some changes in the configuration and the structure of the new release!!

Hey guys please help I accidentally deleted all my photos which I saved into my internal memory. I have tried all sorts of recovery methods, but to no avail. However I found this one suspicious file called .thumbdata3-176350812 in my thumbnails folder. The directory to it is Internal Memory, DCIM, Thumbnails. It has a pretty big file size of 54.5MB. May I know what it is? With a little glimmer of hope, could it be a backup of my photos? If not, what is it? Is there any other way to recover my photos? They are very precious memories and I really feel like killing myself for being so clumsy and deleting them all. I am on Resurrection remix JB 3.0.6 and using a Samsung Galaxy SII i9100.
The file is thumbnail of you images they are tiny images of original images...
Try to open it it might help
we all should be polite enough to press thanks for anyone who helped US.

You could try apps like Undelete or Hexamob recovery. The file, as mentioned, is the thumbnail data of your images. That size actually isn't big compared to what it sometimes gets to (3gb+).

Hello,
I rooted my TF 700 and upgraded to JB, delete loads of rubbish, now the tablet flies. However I got a problem with gallery app:
It dose not show any of the images I copied to tablet, the pictures I took from camera shows up the gallery but other images I copied do no show up.
I tried different galley apps all got the same problem, I tried media rescan app as well did not solve the problem.
Just wandering anyone got any ideas?
You help is much appreciated.
How did you copy the images, and into which folder? Do the files show up in the file manager at the expected location (/sdcard/Pictures usually)?

I copy the files into the same folder as where camera images stores, yes the files show up in file manager and I can open it.

You need to copy to your picture folder (/sdcard/Pictures).
Try rebooting the device. Android does a media scan when booting up, and it should pick up the new pictures at that point.
