[Resolved] [Q] Clockwork mod recovery not updated - General Questions and Answers

I have a HTC Desire, and rooted long ago with Clockwork mod 2.5.0.7. Recently I want to upgrade it so I download Rom manager and start flashing the newest version 5.x from the menu.
However It's still showing 2.5.0.7 when I boot to the recovery even though the rom manager already said 5.x.
I tried o re-root with Unrevoke method, and add the newest img file but still doensn't help, the annoying 2.5.0.7 still showing.
Is there anyone that faced this problem before ? Please give me a hand... i'm really lost.

Try flashing the recovery img from your pc.

Thank you, but It turns out that the CM only works after I S-OFF my phone. Problems solved after hours trying to S-OFF

glad you sorted it

Unable to update ClockworkMod Recovery on HTC Desire to latest version

I have a HTC Desire, which I rooted using Unrevoked.
This updated my recovery to ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 - which was great and I was able to backup/restore/apply new roms. Also ROM Manager worked and I could use that application to access the recovery modes/scripts.
ROM Manager then got updated, including the ClockworkMod (5.0.2.0). Now ROM Manager fails to run any of the scripts when starting in recovery mode.
When I manually boot in to recovery, I am still on the 2.5.0.7 version and not the latest. I've tried applying the 5.0.2.0 update - which updates for that boot, but on a reboot reverts back to 2.5.0.7.
So, my questions are;
- To update my recovery program do I need S-OFF? Currently still have S-ON.
- If S-OFF, will a simple 'apply update from sdcard' update it?
Thanks, A

Samsung Galaxy 10.1 - Stock ROM.
I have S-ON on my Hero and I always updated my recovery. I don't think it would be a problem.
Don't use rom manager. Just copy the file to your SD and flash it manually trough recovery (flash/install zip from SD), it should work.
Thanks.
but.... nope! It's stuck on ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7! As I said I can flash it to 5.0.2.0 and use it, but next time I enter recovery it's back to 2.5.0.7!
If it's not S-ON that's causing it, could it because I rooted with Unrevoked? Some how that's locked it to 2.5.0.7?
Thanks, A

It could be unrevocked, but not sure. I rooted a Desire owned by a friend but with S-OFF.
He never had any issue.

I have the same problem.
Some help?
Thanks
O.
same here...tried everything!
Same here.
Rom Manager fails. (says it's worked, but upon boot to recovery it's the same 2.5.0.7
Rom Toolbox just fails and admits it.
I tried following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608042 thread, and tried basically the same thing via the android-terminal as well. Every time it fails.
When trying via the terminal (android or adb) I get erase and write fails, and a run out of memory error. I would like to update CWM so that I can partition the SD using the phone.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.
The Answer
Well I found the answer for me. My problem was that I still had S-On and had to get that to S-Off as apparently my phone (HTC Desire) has an advanced security feature put on by HTC that stops you writing to /System, which is a necessary location to write to to update CWM. I got S-Off by using revolutionary, which was pretty noob friendly despite the scary words on the page. (google for revolutionary s-off)
Revolutionary just requires the HBOOT version and the Serial Number of the phone, which you find under the battery. DLed the fastboot drivers as they recommended as well. Once I got S-Off, I was able to use Rom Manager to update the CWM to 5.0.2 or whatever the latest is now.
Hope this helps you as it did me.
PS I have previously tried re-running unrevoked whilst the phone had BCM ICS (CM9), which didn't work (error was "is your firmware too new?"). I then downgraded to CM 6, and tried again with unrevoked, but the Rom Manager still wouldn't upgrade CWM. I checked HBOOT and as suspected still had S-On...Revolutionary is your answer methinks
so which CWM RECOVERY is latest without S-OFF and with option to partition SD EXT2/3/4 etc? thanks.

[Q] Rom Manager / Advance Ace Hack Kit / ClockworkMod version

I used the Advance Ace Hack Kit (version 13012012) to root my HTC Inspire. I noticed that the version of ClockworkMod that it installed was 5.0.2.7.
I then thought I might flash a new rom so I downloaded Rom Manager. One of the options of Rom Manger is to install ClockworkMod. However I would like to verify that flashing whatever version of ClockworkMod from Rom Manager over the current version installed by AAHK won't cause any problems.
Does anybody know?
I looked at the ClockworkMod site and it had version 5.0.2.7 as the current version, but it didn't list the HTC Inspire as compatible.
Rom manager doesn't seem to want to do anything until I flash its version of ClockworkMod. I assumed that it might know that ClockworkMod was already on it, but apparently not.
So, will I mess things up if I just let Rom Manger flash whatever version of ClockworkMod over the AAHK version (which seems to be the newest version)? If I decide to flash a rom I might just do it from the console rather than Rom Manager.
Thanks for any insight.
I'm still learning but I'm pretty sure it'll be ok. And I think the reason it doesn't show inspire 4g is cause the inspire is just paired with desire hd

Thanks @Boss man. I had thought the same thing about clockworkmod not showing Inspire 4g, however, for the Desire HD it shows that 5.0.2.0 as the current version (not 5.0.2.7).
I've only had this phone a week, so it's all a bit new...and I certainly don't want to brick the thing if I don't have to Hoping that someone has used Rom Manager to flash over a different version (even if newer version) of ClockworkMod.

Hi, CWM recovery is a must before you flash a new rom. That won´t conflict with the Hack Kit as the Hack Kit only roots your phone. Once that is finished then there's nothing more. The CWM recovery is a new image that is flashed to your cell and that allows you among other things to backup your current rom and flash new ones.
Before you move towards flashing anything you have to install CWM or you will get stuck in the HBoot menu. Inspire 4G is fully compatible with Rom Manager and CWM and will install the last version available. When you choose to flash CWM recovery it will prompt you what device is yours...choose Desire HD and that will do. The desire HD is the European version of Inspire, but NEVER try to flash software that is for the Desire HD as that some aspects are not the same (Radio, kernel) and might jam you up. Hope it helps....
Thanks. Yea that helps. However, I already have CWM recovery on my phone. I did not put it there. However, I bought the phone used. All I did was use the AAHK and after rooting was done version 5.0.2.7 of CDW recovery was on the phone.
I don't know what version of CDW recovery ROM Manger flashes. Just want to make sure that _if_ it flashes a new _or_ older version of CDW recovery it doesn't jam anything up for me.

As far as you Flash the CWM recovery from the Rom Manager, it won´t jam you up as it flashes the last version that is compatible with your device. If you are in doubt you just can flash it again to make sure.
If you are thinking about installing a custom rom then don´t forget to make a nandroid backup (copy current rom) and enjoy!!...

take out the battery and insert it again, press power and press volume down, and so keep trying ... enters hboot and from there comes the recovery and makes all wipes.. I was in your same situation and that was my solution

[Q] HELP! Can't flash custom ROM, status 7 error =(

Hi every i've been trying to flash my tmobile HTC ONE S to ParanoidAndroid JellyBean v2.13,fromt this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890464
I unlocked(still s-on), rooted, and tried a couple different recoveries (CWM 5.8.31,5.8.24,5.8.15 etc. and TWRP 1.7, 2.2)
what I did was first unlock, then flash recovery, and root, then flash boot.img from the ROM package, and install from SDcard. However everytime I get a Status 7 error messege, and installation fails...
And one time I tried to install from CWM ROM manger from Google Play in the OS, still failed after it reboot and goes in to recovery.
Some people on the web says that this means I need a different or newer recovery, but I've probably tried all the main and newest versions.....
pls help! thnx in advance!! =)
nvm!!! I was stupid enough to download the ROM version for HTC ONE X..hahaha..

TWRP Recovery

Hello, I am having some problems installing a working recovery, here is my story... So first the device was 10.6.1.27.5 and its unrootable, so i downgraded to 10.6.1.15.3, where I installed TWRP recovery, and flashed CM 10.2 ROM, but it was too glitchy, so i wiped all data, and fastbooted 10.6.1.15.3 build and stock ROM. So I am now stock,
I am rooted using MottoChop method, and I cant install a custom recovery... I tryed to install TWRP 2.5.0.0 thats the version I was on before, and also tied 2.6.3.0, when flashing the .blob My device turns unresponsive, even when rebooting it with fastboot.
So left with no choice i tried flashing the .img one for JB, (Note: It is currently NOT a OTA update, but manual, so i used the 4.2 first)
I was Able to Flash the custom recovery 2.6.3.0 JB.img and it booted up and worked fine, but then it couldnt mount anything,
I was getting error message:
E: Cant mount /data
and so on... I then tried to flash 2.5.0.0 and got the same result.
GooManager cant find a recovery script for this device...I flashed the TF300T, since thats the kind i have not TF300TG
Im really lost now... I tried ClockworkManager to find a recovery and it said the same thing, I dont want to flash a CWM with flashboot since i here It is terrible.
Any Help Is greatly Appreciated
I notice that alot of these problems, I end up fixing myself... I fixed the issue
But If anyone ever comes into the same situation, heres the fix...
UPDATE to 10.6.27.5 (Yes newest version) Im using US...
Install openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-tf300t-4.2.blob IMPORTANT dont flash the JB version because its only for OTA updates
Open recovery and TWRP will prompt you to install, and beleive it or not, but apparently you can root the newest version,
Just not With MottoChopper and other quick root methods!
If you have any more question, post!

[Q] Bricked?

I unlocked and installed the CWM recovery. The ROM manager confirmed this was installed.
Following the guide at teamadroid.com for the twistedkat 4.4.2 ROM.
I flashed a new boot.img (from the twistedkat ROM).
Now I just see the "Only for internal use" red letters, and cannot invoke the CWM recovery for installing the ROM.
Any help would be appreciated on how to install the ROM or get back to stock.
EDIT: I progressed from this situation by re-flashing the CWM recovery, even though this emitted an error indicating that the file could not be validated or such. After this I can enter the CWM recovery.
Thanks!

Do you have Ville (S4) or Ville C2 (S3) model?
If you have S4 ( I suppose due to te fact you installed TwistedKat) install this recovery --> http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/ville/philz_touch_6.19.3-ville.zip
The recovery provided by rom manager does NOT support Android 4.4.2 KItKat roms !!!
PLS check if you have S3 or S4

Thanks for your suggestion.
Actually I don't know. I think only one HTC One S was ever in my market (Denmark).
In the meantime I succeeded installing the TwistedKat ROM and have it running now.
Does anybody know of a tutorial for resetting to stock ROM? (Just in case I want to revert).

Unable to enter clockwork recovery?
I installed clockwork recovery and actually managed to install TwistedKat (what seems to be an old version).
But I am unable to enter the clockwork recovery in order to reflash to another ROM. Choosing RECOVERY from HBOOT just shows the warning screen and then halts the phone.
I have been reding through a ton of threads mentioning similar symptoms, but with no solution found.
Any help would really be appreciated!

I get this as well. Try it twice. For me the second time always boots up into CWM.
Can you tell me what you did to get rid of the red letters/HTC??? Did you flash boot.img again???

Which recovery do you use? Are you S-OFF // SuperCID // HBOOT 2.15??

The "red letters" have nothing to do with kernel. To get rid of them you must be S-Off and flash a moded hboot/firmware. There is one in the firmware thread that has the red warning removed.
@qabi: don't use CWM. Flash latest TWRP 2.7, you should be able to flash any ROM with it except the ones for 2.16 hboot

Rapier, can you explain this? A while back I loaded TWRP (S-ON) then loaded one of the CM series (either 11 or 10, can't remember). Then after I flashed boot.img, I was stuck in boot loop with HTC/red letters.
The reason I was asking what he did was I never did get to stop the boot loop myself. I paid to get it fixed, but I would like to know what I should have done to fix the boot loop after flashing the boot.img and having the problem. Seems like a lot of people get this so, so would be nice to know.
I was basically following everything listed on a web page and everything was working. Unlocked boot loader, SuperSU, TWRP etc... the last thing I did was flash the boot.img and then the problems occurred.
As far as the double try for CWM, I am S-OFF, 2.15 and I noticed it happens every now and then. I don't have this issue with TWRP at all.
It is hard to say why, apparently you did all right. What I can think off is a bad download or a bad flash or you could have used a wrong TWRP version. Also that ROM you have tried could have issues. It is very hard to know why without some logs that shows what went wrong

After much mucking about I flashed the "philz" recovery. That helped alot - I can now enter recovery every time. So apparently the original CWM recovery has problems on the HTC one S.
Thanks for your suggestions guys!

I think so. I am running the latest CWM and never had problems before this.
