hi
i have the pro 7 and have seen several post about people having it jailbroken now im not asking for infomation how to or where but i would like to know why?
my phone is unlocked to any network so what is the reason to have or get the phone jailbroke? seems to make no sense to me as most apps are free anyway so unless im missing something dont seem any reason
thanks for the info
Most stupid apps are free, yes. But most good apps are paid. So you jailbreak your phone and sideload cracked versions of them.
also many people can't buy apps from marketplace (country not supported by marketplace area, can't register credit card, etc...) and jailbreak is only solution... yes that is piracy but stupid MS rules block others outside supported regions to have what need

wait a minute, ppl already figured out a way to crack XAPs?!!
I live in Egypt so I couldn't get my credit card to work with the marketplace, I searched a bit for cracked WP7 apps/games and found none!
I think it's against the rules of the forum to post links about piracy, but can you at least give me a hint, or maybe send me a private message?
BTW I'm totally against piracy, but I'm also against preventing certain countries from accessing certain services :S

Another reason to jailbreak your phone is to be able to install apps on it that usually wont get allowed into the marketpalce, like file managers and registry editors
also, you might want to jailbreak it if you're a developer and want to code cool stuff on your phone without having to pay for a marketplace license.
However, if you're a student, you can get a marketplace license for free from dreamspark.com and that way you'll have an official jailbreak (also known as developer unlock) which is what I've done. (and if you're wondering, yes I had to lie about my location when registering for the free marketplace license )

- if your device have software version 7004-7008 you can use Chevron for unlocking
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857127
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101344
- if you already upgrade to NoDo or Mango via Zune, then you can try restore to 7004-7008 also via Zune....
- other way is to use HSPL and unlocked custom ROM's but this is impossible if you upgraded with official Mango with RUU update

Hello,
Is there any way to unlock windows phone 7 after performing the march update. I tried even Windows Phone Device Manager but it requires unlocked WP7.
all help is appreciated
No. The only way right now is to roll back to an old version via Zune restore or flash a "pre-nodo" rom then unlock with Chevron.
^
No it isnt.
You can get it unlocked by microsoft as well.
http://create.msdn.com/en-US/
For students it is free otherwise there is a fee
Thanks for your response,
I guess it is quite frustrating to pay fees for development rather than donation like all magnificent developers here. I live in Egypt and hope Microsoft could add it to countries as we have a giant office of them here. It is not comprehensible to restrict developers to be in only certain countries.

Why would they charge so freaking much? Freaking thieves; all I want is the ability to customize my drive which I own and every right to do so according to U.S. law. I am in no way interested in hacking and loading free apps.
I have an Android phone and am not a fan of having to go to the Marketplace to download software.
Is there a Windows marketplace equivalent of the andriod App Planet?
I'm considering purchasing a Windows phone.
Thanks,
Craig
Are you asking if theres a site that will give you access to all the paid apps for free?
If so, NO THERE ISN'T, open your wallet and help the devs, or stick to the free apps in the marketplace.
No, I wasn't asking for free stolen apps
I know that independent developers need to be supported.
I just hate the fact that I have to go to one central place for purchasing that's all.

So what your saying is that you'd rather purchase from multiple places rather than 1?
Let's see...
There's the Marketplace website.
There's the Marketplace hub on the phone.
* There are a couple of ways to get to it, too.
There's the bing search feature on the phone, which can find Marketplace apps.
There's the Marketplace on the Zune software.
If that's not enough options for you, then I'm going to have a reallllly hard time buying the argument that the special feature you're looking for isn't "let me get the apps without paying". Asking for help with pirating stuff is strictly against the XDA-Devs rules. If you're honestly not looking for that, what *are* you looking for?
Hi, quite recently i dived into wp app development and id love to post my apps somewhere so people could try them and provide some response. But if i got it right theres a 99 bucks fee to be able to post to the ms marketplace. Is there any other nonofficial or whatever marketplace or something?
Tldr: where to post my xaps for people to try without spending fortune?

There are a few routes you can go. The downside is that the users (including you) who you wish to use your app will have to be developer unlocked at the minimum (There's also InterOp Unlocked and Fully Unlocked. You'll have to search the forum to find out information on that). There is a homebrew marketplace named Bazaar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383648) and W.I.N.C.O App Store (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1668020)
It's always best to create a thread to display your app so that users can know what the purpose of the app is and a place for the users to go to for support. Also, creating beta testing pools helps out a lot. See what I did for R1ng3d in my signature.
I hope this helped out,

Hello everyone. I decided to start this thread so we would have a new outlet to discuss root, not having it, and anything else that pertains to rooting the US Snapdragon variant (or any locked bootloader Snapdragon for that matter).
I for one do like root on Samsung devices. I feel that the services, logging, etc that Samsung puts on these phones is at best excessive, at worst, a violation of privacy. I use root o disable these services and anything that I don't believes warrants running in the background.
I also like to use host level ad blocking which can only be done with root (AFAIK).
So, the poll asks the question...
Do you want root?
Feel free to discuss anything root related in this thread.
Please be respectful of others opinions!
I personally love flashing custom roms on my android devices and that's the main reason I want root on this device. There was a thread before but it got locked, apparently we only have like 1 person working on root and that was then - don't know if that has since changed. I personally don't know much about the process and don't even know where to begin learning how to accomplish something like this. I offered help before but was quickly informed there was nothing I can do to "help" without vast amounts of this type of knowledge.

Can this be related to any type of exploit for root?

Nope, the only reason I used to root on all my phones was to get rid of the ads. Now with apps available to do the same, I don't feel the need to root.
I want root for xposed and/or magisk.
Otherwise to disable packages I use adhell 3 (no root needed) as I don't want to trip Knox yet...

Yes... I want to have control over the device. for privacy, customization, optimization, TWRP/Titanium backups, remove silly warnings, extend device life post mfg support, etc
Imagine buying a car and not being able to open up the hood........................................ total BS........

Also, someone working on root doesn't talk about it... They just do it.
All of your posts in that thread were atrocious. You are a very rude, ill mannered person that lacks any communication skills.
So please... Stop posting rude, unneeded comments in this thread!

Just because I'm telling you want you don't want to hear, doesn't mean I'm being rude. Did I call you any names? No I did not. I have been EXTENSIVELY working on rootting our device. Me and several (14) others started in telegram about a week or two after the device was released. Over time people left for Exynos, gave up, or went for other devices, leaving it to just me. And now I have moved on.
I'm letting you know that there are NO KNOWN BIG Devs working on rooting the snapdragon S9+. Is there someone working on it silently, that isn't known to this community/others, or has no previous exploit releases? I can't speak for that. I can speak for myself and others who were working on it, we are on to other projects now.
We put well over 200+ hours into it. Again, there's no way to fully "write up" what we all tried....We did all the OBVIOUS, and MORE. I have more important things to do with my time, than to write you a report as to what we did. Be glad you got this much of an explanation. The root was that much of a concern to you you would have been in the boat (telegram chat) since the beginning. Good luck on root, and good luck finding any andvanced developers to work on it for you.
TLDR: Keep praying for "Joe Schmo" to release root for you guys. There are absolutely zero WELL KNOWN developers working on it. SORRY IF IT'S BLUNT AND NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR.
And to OP.. Prove me wrong.

I use Samsung Pay as my primary means of payment on a daily basis so much that if it wasn't for needing a physical drivers licenses I would just leave my wallet at home at this point. If Root breaks Samsung Pay then it's not something I would want.

Thats a real good point! I feel the same way. I have been thinking alot about a digital D/L that would be stored on your phone. If that could happen, I would no longer need a wallet. I think all but one of my credit and debit cards are on Samsung Pay.
I do really love rooting most specially for blocking ads, since non root adblocker used VPN to omit ads which compare to root can be easily add via hosts file without additional software/task (which obviously draining additional battery). also my wifi tools can be run via root only. and wanted to do more and it is only possibe via rooted phone.
though there is a rooting method already in here but seems i cant keep up on that much besides I cant use any pc for now. is rooting like flashing zip file possible as what older devices can be easily did? or way more easier rooting method than currently in here is way much better.
thanks

Root is a must! Phones these days are like computers and when I pay $$$ for a flagship phone, I expect I get "full control" over my device. Samsung Pay is "nice to have" but Viper for audio, Adaway, Titanium backup, TWRP are a must to enjoy my device to its full extent.
Brothers, we need to standup for ourselves and stop this ***** madness.
1. I've sent Huawei many emails, it obviously didn't help.
2. If we start like a mass petition or class action or some other case together, we might stand a chance. Remember we're not the only ones with locked bootloader. / Grayed out OEM unlock in developing settings. The mate 20 pro users and possibly other models have the same issue. We have to team up.
Perhaps we can make an email format here that we copy paste and send to hauwei each of us individually. They would be spammed with say 1 million emails.
3. We have paid allot for this device , an android device should be open and customizable. There is absolutely no valid reason to lock down an android device, unless you as smartphone brand try to protect your spyware .
Anyway are you with me brothers ? Let's get the full potential for the hardware that we paid for. Huawei needs to start offering the bootloader codes again and enable OEM unlock. Period. Other resolutions are not acceptable.

I guess 99,5 % of the users don`t care about root. So it will most probably not happen. Nokia also will not provide help to unlock the bootloader as most other OEMS. Get a Samsung , Xiaomi, OnePlus or Pixel phone if you want root. You buy a phone as is, not how you want it to be.
I do not agree with your mindset. That's a typical beta give up mentality.. no offense.
Huawei used to provide the unlock service service before, and now suddenly it stopped doing so. It can't go without consequences..
I love the hardware and the big screen, there are no better alternatives at the moment.
That 99% of the people doesn't want root, it doesn't mean that the remaining 1% is wrong or need to be neglected. If 1% of the users team up we would have 200.000 plus supporters that can show their voice and that can make this happen.
I am in
Count me in too!! This insolence cannot go unpunished.
Not to play spoilsport but your suggestion would work if indeed a million people request for it. From what I understand, the Chinese version of the Huawei phones can be unlocked without issues. Only the international version has this issue. Considering that the majority of the phones sold would be Chinese (which is their main market) who are not affected and accounting for a minuscule part of the phones they sell for the global audience are that interested in rooting, getting them to do anything has a low probability. Having said that, if root is so critical for anyone, the Chinese version is always an option. Most of the issues are resolved related to the Chinese specific devices
