How is the bottom conector on your Asus TF pad - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I just got my TF pad today and i have a question I hope you can help me With...
when I plug the USB cabel directly into the bottom conector on the pad it feels a bit loose, I can move it a bit up and down...
but when i plug the cabel into the dock it's much more firm and can't move it so much...
the conection seems fine, but can some of you tell me how your TF PAD is when cabel pluged in..
is yours a bit loose to ???
Is the bottom connector poor on the TF PAD
hope you can help

Mine is the same. I at first thought there was a problem with my unit, but then I remembered it was an asus product. I love their motherboards, and hear their sound cards are great too. But, when it comes to whole products, like notebooks, and in this case, the transformer, it has to suffer in some quality. I heard much about how great quality asus products were, after owning a few of their products, this included, I find to expect many signs of lackluster quality. (Creaking backs, a lot of light bleed, many stuck pixels) in my device. I can't really use my bad luck to say that is how all their products are, but my experience with asus has been pretty poor unless it came to Pc parts I mentioned before. I still love my transformer though.

Thanks for the reply.. glaad th hear yours the same. But i was just thinking if the reason about a bit loose cabel has something to do about it has to be used with the dog so its not so tight that it will damage when put into the doc ??
Has anybody had problems with the dock connector ??

[Q] A few hours with my transformer

Having received my transformer this morning, all I can say is i love it! however, there are definitely a few issues that are bugging me;
1. the build quality. i constantly feel where the outer rim and the back casing are supposed to join, but dont and its a constant remind of its quality
2. the dock. its brilliant but the putting the tablet into the dock is so annoying and im afraid I may end up breaking the mechanism on the dock. which leads me to my next point...
3. connectivity. the tablet actually has about as much connectivity as an ipad, which is a REAL shame. would it have been so difficult to implement a micro/usb port onto the tablet? i appreciate the sd card slot but personally I'd have preferred the micro/usb than the sd card, but hey atleast the sd card works! you cannot really experience the transformer properly without the keyboard dock so when docking the tablet I am extremely cautious incase i do do some damage.
4. trackpad. the two buttons on the trackpad also feel really cheap when pressing. I suppose this is to be expected when paying as little I have for this tablet.
My final issue, for now, is the constant freezing of the keyboard which i believe has been addressed in a firmware update in the US and not in the UK. Would be nice to get it soon! anyone know when we brits get this update, and any other update there is floating around??
there is a USB port adapter being released by Asus in the near future. Also the trackpad feels real solid to me.

my buttons on the trackpad feel really plasticy but i guess thats to be expected. although iv not spent a great deal of time with the dock, guess ill have a more informed idea in a few days

they feel like plastic but they feel robust and sturdy to me, or are you experiencing different issues?
happy with the trackpad buttons too..they're robust..
as for the docking mechanism..you'll get used to it eventually...and it's a lot easier to dock after being used for a while.
I have no problems that seriously bother me. If you don't like it there's always the option to return it. I would not keep something that bothers me that much!
I am just waiting to see if its a case of getting used to it, will only return as a very last resort because I'm very happy with the rest of the tablet as I'm sure the majority of transformer users are!
Dock is very solid. And it has usb ports so I'm confused about your review.

Excellent choice! I think it has a lot of potential. Obviously, the hardware issues won't be resolved but the software will be splendid in a few months!

i think he means why didnt they add a usb to the tablet as well so if you didnt buy the dock you could have a usb port. i think it would have been a nice feature especially on the left hand side of the tablet where the power and volume buttons are. i do like the dock option especially since it adds more battery life to the tablet.
^ Actually the iPad2 has a dock slot (smartass), it's just basically a keyboard, without any of the usefullness of the TF's dock.
The dock has USB ports, yes, but the tablet itself doesn't. I can see where kashifnazir is going with this; I'd like a USB port - even a micro/mini would do - on the tablet itself as well. If I wanted to just grab something of somone's USB stick, I might not necessarily what to root in my bag for the dock every time.
Regardless, it's relatively minor. The Transformer is still the portable computer I've been waiting for since tablets first hit the market.

I sort of noticed this issue too, but try this:
Press the trackpad button all the way out on the edge. Feels cheap doesn't it? Now press the button about halfway between the edge and the rubber bumper that the screen rests on when closed. Now, it feels almost better than some netbook trackpad buttons I've used.
My thoughts after some time on the TF
Charger: It appears that the charger is marginal at best and when used to charge the TF/Dock combo with medium battery remaining the charger overheats and either dies or shuts down until it cools. I have been charging separately and if lots of charging is needed, do it in increments. Seems to work fine. Excellent biz opportunity design a 15VDC 3.0a power supply with a USB3.0 female connector.
Dust: The plastic protective cover was covered with dust when I opened the box. Luckily nothing inside the TF. ASUS needs to revisit the assy and packaging cleanliness requirements.
UI: Would be nice to have option to move soft buttons from bottom to side of screen as they are easier to access when holding the device.
Case creek. My case is solid, but I noticed that the hinge on the dock is very stiff and I can see how opening and closing the combo by pushing on the TF could easily cause considerable stress on the case causing it to flex.
Overall for an early adopted device I am impressed.

I understand, but from a business perspective, I think it would have been a horrible idea for Asus to include a USB/micro USB port on the tablet itself. They wouldn't have the potential to sell nearly as many docks, and getting consumers to buy both parts is how they've chosen to market the Transformer.

Headphone Jack Position - Really Good

Has anyone tried to watch a movie with wired headphones. You're in for a wonderful surprise. ASUS has greatly improved the headphone jack location. It is now at the bottom of the left side so now it no longer dangles when its in the dock.
I know this might be considered a small thing to some people, but it makes me really happy!
(Note this post has been slightly modified (censored) from the original to support the all important group consensus. In its original form I might have said something about the headphone jack being under the users hand and in a really awkard place, forcing me to do stupid things like use the tablet upside-down. But I have now been made to see the light! So this post is now pro-Infinity and non offensive: Cue the music of 2001 a Space Odyssey, with monkeys dancing around a great metallic monolith ...)
What's wrong with just rotating it 180 degrees?
Edit: I didn't see your statement on case. Would you show us an example where a case makes it hard to rotate it does not provide place to grip?

Oh darn, silly me. I didn't realize - ASUS designed this tablet to be used upside down. Well, problem solved!
Sorry for the sarcasm - couldn't resist.
I just tried flipping my current case over - seems OK. Will have to try my Roocase upside down as well.
But I CAN see a problem switching out of movies to do work and then coming back. There are some apps that expect the tablet to be vertical and that might be a problem.
Bottom line, it just seems like an unecessary and almost laugable inconvenience (and a rather stupid one) on a so-called premium tablet.

Just to play devils advocate here, I actually LIKE the placement of the headphone jack! Since I would leave the tablet docked when watching a movie (so I don't have to hold it the whole time), the location is kind of nice as the headphone wire doesn't "hang" down and get in the way like it would if the headphone jack were at the top of the device.... It stays out of the way...
Of course, that's because I have the dock - but then again, that's why I bought the Transformer - because of the dock - otherwise, I probably wouldn't buy as Asus Transformer tablet....
So, believe it or not, there are pros and cons to the location of the headphone jack!

I would say its there so it can fit in the wedge shape of the Infinity and be mostly covered and not exposed like the Prime.

You are 100% right sir. This is the reason it was moved and the device is much better for it. The primes placement was a pain in the arse.
Yeah, I guess they can't make everyone happy all of the time, right? It seems some people prefer the location and others do not.
But like I said, I would imagine that most people who buy a Transformer, but it because of the keyboard dock, so I would think that it's placement would be preferred for most people....

Every other manufacturer just puts an audio out ON THE DOCK !
Its not a better solution to put the jack on the bottom where it blocks your hand. Any engineer worth his salt would have left the jack in the proper position and put an audio out/headphone jack on the dock instead.
Don't tell me lots of people haven't thought this already. I noticed this right away when I had the Prime - the audio cable dangles from the top of the tablet while its in the dock - so - did you think - yes lets move it to the bottom so now its under the users hand - which won't be a problem because he can just use it upside down - or do you think - lets put an audio jack on the dock itself - kind of basic.

Again, some people prefer it on the bottom - it's a personal preference and I'm obviously not the only one who would rather have it at the bottom.
Of course it would be better to have a headphone jack on both the dock and the tablet, but thats not the case. I just can't imagine holding my TF700 while watching a movie to begin with - I would always have it in the dock (or some other type of stand).
But, if you must hold the tablet while using headphones, simply hold onto it from the middle of the device instead of at the very bottom - I just don't see what the big deal is - I can hold it just fine with two hands, even with headphones plugged in!?!?

I imagine that, if you never hold the tablet in your hand while watching a movie, then it would not be a problem. I mean seriously - who buys a tablet to hold it anyway!
But for the extremely small minority that do hold the tablet while watching a movie.....
Sigh. I don't understand why people are so unbelievably accepting of a device's shortcomings. (Well actually I do - people interpret criticism of the product as an indictment of their decision to buy it - if they admit there is something wrong with the tablet they are tacitly admiting that they may have made a mistake)
-Yes the speaker sound isn't a problem..I always use external speakers anyway
-Yes the battery life isn't a problem..I'm always near a plug anyway
-Yes the bluetooth audio lag isn't a problem...I'll just use wired headphones
-Yes doctor you can cut off one of my fingers to use in a class demonstration.... I have four more anyway....

Why can't you just put your hand right above the headphone jack in order to hold it with two hands?? The headphone jack is way at the bottom of the tab - I just don't see the problem - there is plenty of real-estate above the headphone jack to put your hands! It's certainly *nowhere near* "impossible" to hold with two hands as you say in the original post....
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I like the placement of the headphone jack... it stays out of the way. I've never liked having the jack on the other side or on the top.
Maybe your hands are just bigger (I'm average height), maybe just thread the wire through your fingers? Or flip it upside down. I don't think case design has to do with a tablet design "fault".
Some people buy the tablet, without the dock.

What is the perfect infinity?

I feel as though there have been alot of subjective viewpoints on what is the perfect infinity. Alot of us have been returning our infinities because of raised screens, dust, light bleed, pixels etc...but the severity of these issues are subjective at best unless we all can see each others infinities.
So if you have a imperfect infinity post a PICTURES including tablet edges, back plate, screen on and off, boot screen ( to show light bleed), docking ports on tablet and any other areas of concern...
If you have a so called perfect tablet post PICTURES of these same areas so we can compare and see if these issues are as widespread and sever as we think.
I think this will help us all better understand what to look for if indeed we do end up having to exchange our infinities for a new one.
Thanks guys!

I don't know if I call PERFECT as nothing is really perfect but after going through 3 units of Infinity, I can tell there are indeed difference in units built quality.
Personally, I had screen loosening for the first unit which I could definitely feel clicking everytime I held the device. The light bleed was there but really did not care much as I've never noticed it during daily use. The volume button seemed difficult to press felt as if it was a bit misaligned and I had to intentionally push slightly back and down.
Second unit had not screen lifting. The lightbleed were more evident. Now power button was like volume button on my previous unit.
I ended up returning infinity at this point because of not above issues but too many ANR/FC and wanted to give a try to Galaxy Note 10.1. As I missed so much about FHD, I decided to give one last shot on infinity.
This unit has NO light bleed, no screen lifting, all buttons are good. As for performance, I had rooted previous two units and applied d's build prop tweaks but did not use browser2ram or turned off bloatware. So this time, I did not do build prop but turned off bloatware and installed browser2ram. Also, I gave a try to boat browser for the first time. So far 1 week into this unit, I encountered only a handful of ANR and probably 1 or 2 of FC. These may even have been application dependent.
So yes. exterior QC issue really exist and from that regard I finally saw what's called perfect unit. But as far as the system performance goes, if I have had turned of bloatware and installed browser2ram on my previous unit probably would have been identical.

For instance as you can see in the first couple picture i seem to have a slightly "raised" screen on the right side near the 'ASUS" logo, but its not very noticeable. Also my tablet came with two VERY minor scratches (pics 2 and 3) but i dont think they are significant enough to get a return, especially with some of the issues i have been hearing on the forum. The first is to the left of the upside down triangle and the second is near the power button. Besides this my tablet works fine. Now i would like to compare this to everyone else's tablet.

Prime Dock Won't Latch Anymore, Suggestions?

Long story short, I bought the Transformer Prime and dock in late June. About a month later I traded the tablet for the Infinity and kept the dock since I read many people stating that it was compatible. First thing I noticed with the Infinity is that it required more force to dock the tablet into the keyboard. I had to push down and slide the lock tab to the right to actually lock the tablet. About a couple weeks ago I noticed that with the tablet docked and the lock tab pushed all the way to the right, I could easily slide the tablet upwards and remove it from the dock without sliding the lock tab to the left first. What this means is that the tablet could easily become undocked, causing it to fall easily if held improperly. The locking mechanism seems to work properly, but I'm not sure if the locking pins have become worn or if the part that the pins connect to inside the tablet have rounded off or something. Has anyone else experienced this problem yet, and if so, what are the possible solutions to fix this? If it's a problem with the dock, I'll probably just end up buying the newer dock ASUS released recently that's stated to be compatible with the Infinity. I've also thought about taking my tablet to Best Buy and seeing if it will dock securely with one of their docks to see if I can rule out the dock. If it's a problem with the tablet itself, I guess I'm SOL. Right now I'm staring at bits of a torn up paper towel, contemplating shoving them into the holes to see if it will temporarily fix the problem, lol.

I'm guessing you have the same problem as me. There are plastic hooks that are on the dock latch and they broke off on mine. I just figured the problem out last week. I'm going to try to send it back soon for warranty.

I have your exact problem! There is nothing wrong with the locking pins on mine. They're metal and are designed not to be damaged if the tablet is inserted in the locked position. The issue is the locking pins do not line up with the small piece of metal in the locking grooves/holes on the tablet. I can see tiny abrasion marks a few millimetres in front of where they should be at the bottom of my tablet showing that they simply are not lining up.
The issue is with the dock. This should be covered on warranty.
R.e. trying to buy another one - I would warn you that consensus appears to be that the TF700 dock is structurally identical in every way to the TF201 dock. The only difference is the finishing colour which is slightly different and the cost of the TF700 dock which ASUS kindly increased.
My unit came together with a 'TF700' dock and the colours match. And like you it was a very tight fit to start with. I didn't notice the latch problem until last week though (because I actually never tried to remove the tablet with the lock mechanism ON before!).
Thanks dude. Would anyone be kind enough to direct me to Asus's warranty claims department? I can't f find a link to save my life lol.

How did you get on with the warranty repair?
I have opened up a POLL on transformer forums to see how many users have experienced the docking pins in the tablet either rounding off or snapping off completely.
I'd really appreciate if any of you see this message would go there and make a report to have your voice counted.
You can find it here:
http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...ining-pins-snapped-off-poll-you-affected.html
Also, there's another thread that covers this issue (among possible other issues) here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107044
I've been in contact with ASUS Support in the Netherlands -- they claim it is user-induced damage. I have written a slightly spikier mail, but will have to weigh my legal option if they remain on their stance. A device this expensive should have better build quality.

I'm guessing you have the same problem as me. There are plastic hooks that are on the dock latch and they broke off on mine. I just figured the problem out last week. I'm going to try to send it back soon for warranty.

Did you try ASUS warranty? There is a poll here
... trying to get ASUS to recognise this is a design flaw and not customer induced damage
because
a) The docking tabs in the tablet are PLASTIC
b) There seems to be a tendency for left or right side of tablet to 'catch' in the dock as you remove it and if this occurs just before you release the locking tab---- crack! Locking tab should have hold fast LOCK and UNLOCK positions instead of being spring loaded
I too have this problem. We actually have 2 Infinities and 2 docks. One tablet works fine with both docks, and the other won't stay connected to either dock, so it's definitely the tablet that is broken. Looking inside I can see both plastic pieces are broken off.
What are people's experience with this? Is Asus telling they won't cover it before you even send it in? Are they giving any estimates for what it costs to repair? Pretty crappy that they make a small structural item out of plastic and then say "screw you".

Yes, this is the oen issue that made me put ASUS on my blacklist of ****ty companies -- they put it on "user-induced damage", unseen, and if you send it in, they'll take the 125 Euros anyway, even if they only take a crap and wipe their ***es with the RMA form. I'm happy with the tablet as it nw runs, but NONE of that happiness has to do with AUSS' screwy behavior, poor hardware design decisions and even worse customer support.
I was looking for a Win8 tablet for the family, but the only viable option for now is the HP Envy v2 -- as I said, I will never buy ASUS again. And I have never boycotted anything in my life, be it digital or physical, so that says something. :S

TF101 Speakers in TF700

Well i blew the speaker(s) in my tf700 a while ago, since then its just sat around doing nothing. I also had a tf101 sitting around (the original transformer) with a liquid damaged, cracked screen. I thought id see if the tf101 speakers would work in the tf700 and they do! very simple replacement, the only issue is remounting the 2 stereo based tf101 speakers in a way that fits nicely in the tf700, the insides of a tf700 are very nice indeed (the tf101's internals are a mess). Didn't fit right away, needed to saw some plastic off... In the end sound quality isn't as good, mostly because its poorly mounted at the moment, tf700 gives off more bass but the tf101 is loader.

Hey mate..... I have 2 sets of speakers for the 700..... You are more then welcome to them as they are just going to collect dust ....
Shoot me an email if you would like ..... Thx Josh

As a software engineer, I admire people who can disassemble and reassemble a tablet and still have working hardware in the end.

Thanks! but really the tf700 is really well built as consequence its quite easy to get into. There is alot of spare room inside the tf700, especially without the original speakers, I wonder what else we could chuck in there
