i think your phone is the korean motoroi xt720, not the milestone xt720. these 2 phones look almost the same but are slightly different inside. try using rsdlite to flash a motoroi sbf back, and then look at some of the ROMs for the motoroi such as jydaddy's cm7.

you can download these Rom's at the below link.

you need to first flash back to the korean motoroi sbf which can be found here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YPJTLR5F
after you're done with that, root your phone using superoneclick root or universal androot (my personal preference because you just have to install the app and root from the phone itself). for universal androot, just google universal androot apk.
install openrecovery and copy your cm7 and the google apps update.zip into sdcard/openrecovery/updates then reboot into openrecovery from the app. ive attached openrecovery.apk from Dexter's rom.
once you're in openrecovery, use the volume buttons to scroll and camera to select. go wipe your phone, go to updates and flash both the cm7 and gapps, wipe again and reboot.
also, for the gsm fix, look around this forum for baseband updates and follow whatever instructions there are.
hope this helps

boot into stock recovery and wipe everything.
Turn off phone
Press Power key + Camera Key + GalleryKey to power on the phone and bring up the recovery screen
When the Triangle/Exclamation point screen appears, press Volume Up + Gallery Key down and tap the camera key to show the recovery menu.
When the recovery window appears, use the volume up/down keys to navigate the menu and the camera key to enter your selection.
Select Wipe data/factory reset
Select Reboot Phone.
if you cant go into stock recovery, boot into bootloader mode and flash the sbf again.

Try swapping sims with your XT701 friend. If your sim works in his phone and his sim doesn't work in yours, I think that rules out the sim as the source of the problem.

The Three Network (recently bought by Vodafone here in Australia) released the Desire HD with a ?slightly different ROM to Vodafone. It has a higher build number and includes the customary links to "Planet 3" services. After installing Paul's unofficial clockworkmod, I did a factory reset and then used clockworkmod recovery mode to backup the ROM (so there's no personal info in the data image file). I'm completely new to Android, but I was thinking along the lines that Three Network customers might want the option of getting their device back to stock condition (after messing with it like I did). I know these factory roms can be regarded as 'bloated', so I doubt other Androphiles will be interested in flashing it. Well done to Paul and the other Desire HD developers on Modaco and XDA developers. The link is:

Hey, i am a Three Australia DHD user as well, I was wondering with this ROM, does it flash the HBOOT to S-ON as well? Or is there a method for me to flash back my Hboot to S-ON if required?
No. The rom is S-off. I had to install ENG HBOOT (S-OFF) in order to install clockworkmod and make the backup. Happy Three Networking . I think (but am not sure) that you can use the "DHD script for flashing hboot" found elsewhere on this forum from Android terminal emulator to restore your original HBOOT (as long as you made a back up of it when you first used that script to flash the Eng hboot).
The script I referred to above is available here:

You could flash my Three rom. Before you do that, make a note of your Vodafone APN's (Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names). After flashing the Three rom, you'll need to change the APNs (which were 3services on the Three Network) to Vodafone's equivalent. In order to flash the rom, you'll need Paul's Visionary permaroot and clockwork recovery (the Restore option). As they say on the threads, all at your own risk.
On second thoughts, go with LeeDroid, if your gonna flash a new rom
... And consider buying him a beer.

Thanks mate for updating me with where the rooting and rom application status is on DHD. I was basically after a stock (clean/unbranded) rom with no tweaks. I think in my recent Android phones, DHD probably has the best factory rom.

My Planet 3 rom is a backup of a 'stock' rom (made using clockworkmod recovery's nandroid backup feature), with no tweaks or user data added. So, you could use it. You'd need to follow the method described above though. You need clockworkmod recovery in order to restore it.
Help
Hello.
I also have a 3 mobile Desire HD here in australia. I am having a little trouble. Was wondering if you's could help.
I want to load a different rom. Leedroid or Defrost. Not sure yet but i am struggling.
I have used visionary r14 to permaroot the phone. I have done a backup with titanium and i have rom manager. This is where i get stuck.
All the stuff i have read does not make this really clear. I want to make a backup of the rom that is loaded just incase i ever want to turn it all back.
I go into rom manager and i click on Backup Current ROM
phone reboots and a pic of the phone comes up and it has a red ? above it. phone restarts and nothing happens.
I am unsure what to do and where to go from here.
Any help would be great.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doesent matter. I got it sorted and was able to do a backup.
Took me a while but got there. Has anybody put on a different rom yet like either of the ones i have mentioned?
Hi jonkers71
Rom manager does not work for the desire HD yet. The guy who writes the rom manager app also writes the 'official' clockwork mod recovery. Paul's clockworkmod for the desire HD is not supported yet by rom manager. By the way, Paul is the same guy who wrote visionary. My file is a backup of a blank planet 3 rom, so you can keep it as a backup. You need Paul's clockwork mod installed (after you root your phone) in order to make backups and do restores. Clockwork mod does exactly the same thing as rom manager except it runs after you take the battery out, put it back in, and boot while pressing volume down. It runs in text mode (like a dos program or a BIOS in a PC). Its really simple. Just choose backup or restore. Most custom roms are installed using clockworkmods 'install from zip' option. See the tutorial thread by Paul which tells you how to install clocmworkmod. Its by far the easiest way to install, backup and restore roms. The backup command backs up all your data too. This is also a more reliable backup in most situations than titanium because its a bit like a ghost or acronis disk image in a PC.

just edited first post.
Was able to get it up and running. Just wasnt reading the info correctly.
Is there any way of installing leedroid or defrost then after i have the back up?
Follow the tutorial on rooting the phone and installing 'eng hboot' (which is simply a text based menu that appears when you boot the phone while pressing volume down). Install Paul's clockwork mod using his tutorial. Download leedroids rom and put it on your SD card. Turn off the phone by pressing power for 2 secs and selecting turn off. Take the battery out. Put it back in. Press and keep pressing volume down, while you tap the power button. A text menu appears, select 'recovery', then select 'install from zip'. 2 minutes later you have a new rom. Select reboot from the menu.

Thanks for the info. Was pretty sure i knew how to do it. ran into a slight snag though and thats why i asked.
Guess it works better when you have the right rom to flash. hahaha. anyways all on and running now.
yep leedroid 1.2, 1.3, 1.3a and just now 1.4.
I am on 3 network also.
A couple of family have DHD from 3 with stock roms and they are shockingly slow.

Hello Everyone,
I had this random reboot problem and posted it in various forums on the web but had not found the root cause of the problem.
But now I seemed to have completely solved it. Here is how for those experiencing similar issues.
1. If you are having it from just few days, then it is surely got to do with the phone trying to fetch data when the signal strength is very low. I found out that -113dbm is the least signal possible and the phone displays a '+' mark in the signal status notification bar. Hence when the signal goes to somewhere near -112dbm and -102dbm the phone goes into a reboot.
So if this is your problem, then you need to download "Shutupbatterymanager" from the market and set the phone to turn off data connections when the signal is below a certain threshold. It is also attached in this post below. For example you can slide the signal bar in the app and set it to -102dbm cutoff after which it will disable the data connections. This is one way of solving the issue if you have had reboot problems occur very recently.
2. The best way to solve this issue is to compromise on your 'downgradability'. For me the above option did not work well after a few test runs and then I accidentally found out that flashing this file (thanks to Higgsy for making this) is the best way. Maybe motorola found out the issue after numerous posts in their support forum and has solved it with a change in the kernel. So just download the file and flash the froyo 2.2 GB UK sbf file with your RSDlite.
It would be helpful if someone can post their kernel version. The flashed one after using this file that seems to solve the problem is [email protected] #1
Hope it solves all your reboot issues. Google you can please index this for some much needed help for desperate Defy owners.
Thanks to: Higgsy and Sorensiim
PS: Important point i forgot to mention is that the change in the kernel is reflected when you get into recovery by holding Vol down + power button. Here if you are on newer and changed version, touching the corner of screen does not work. Instead pressing the volume rocker simultaneously up+down will enter recovery functions.
Substantially is the UK 3.4.2-117 sbf that have you flashed?

Yes, but it is not the complete sbf. Some segments have been knocked off and it has been repacked by Higgsy so that there is no locked bootloader and downgradability problem.
Which means the complete SBF already has this fix built-in?
Yes it should.

okidoki - thanks good to know
I would verify the change by going into stock recovery.

How about if I do still have the problem with Pay'S Rom (3.0/3.1) that is based on: 3.4.2_145-003 Motorola SBF.
I cant flash the sbf file that you named because its older I think. Right?
Is there a chance of getting a cleaned and fixed version of the 3.4.2_145-003 Motorola SBF?
OK before I get confused with the build numbers do this. Power off phone and boot with power button and volume down. Once recovery appears tell me if you are able to enter recovery using the corner of the screen or is it through pressing the volume rocker up and down simultaneously.
It works by pressing the volume rocker up and down simultaneously and NOT by a tab in a corner.

OK then you are already on the newest froyo kernels and not on the eclair ones which had the problem.
Now tell me, is your rebooting problem still there?. When do you face it? What is your observation?.
i think if you are using pays rom, then you must've flashed the whole sbf already. you don't need to flash this partial old sbf, since the new sbf should include the old fix (of course some assumption here, hehe) you probably can't downgrade using official sbf either...

Yes I flashed the most recent kernel, as I mentioned before.
Well, the reboot happens just spontaneously some times a day and also often when a calls or an SMS comes in. But not always, usually only when the phone has not just been rebooted but is still switched on for some time.
But for now: I changed the sim card (from T-Mobile Germany to Base/Eplus/Germany - jus for testing) and afterwards there was no reboot for 12 hours. So maybe the reason is the sim-card, thats my idea at least. But with the Sim-card I want to use on a regular bases, the T-Mobile one, I did have the reboot problem even with the newest kernel.

OK then. Continue your observation on the sim card and come back again to report if this occurs again. All the best.
Ok I will do so. Thanks for your help!
But apart from the hint on the sim-card (which is not yet proven) - Any idea? Do we know that the brand new kernel does not have the error anymore? Or could it still be part of the release if Moto did not realize and fix it?
So, do you see any other thing that could cause all the reboots?
Every rom out there has ways by which you can still maintain downgradability. I did the same. I loaded chinese sbf and then tried various roms by restoring it by nandroid backups. Also people like jboogie and higgsy give boot only and safe sbfs which can be tried. For me flashing the above attached sbf from higgsy and restoring the rom posted by Iaoa PL deblur solved the problem totally.

Strange thing, without any further changed to the system, no update or so..... suddenly there are no reboots anymore. The problem seems to have been solved - at least no reboot for nearly a day so far.
What i just did: Removed the SIM, put another in, later changed again. Also: Put out SD-card, formated it again (standard sector size - was 32byte before) and put all files back on the card and inserted it again.
I also uninstalled JuiceDefender.
Well, either its total random or one f the above mentiond changes whatsoever solves the problem. I hope it'll stay like this now - I'm happy than!

Yeaaah, thats some good news. Enjoy your Defy
After 100h of perfect work of my DEFY, I rebooted it - and what happened? After this, the reboot problem! Same thing than before!
Spontanious reboot and reboots when a call comes in!
What I also observed: after some reboots, the Defy does not find any services, "only emergency calls possible". Could that be a hint?

This is exactly the same problem I had. Why dont you do this. Flash the new poland leaked sbf and then restore nandroid backup from Iaoa. He has a rom for the same poland version.
This solved my problem. Hope it works for you too.
And please remember that you can get back to 2.51 roms and nothing below that if you flash this sbf.
I'm quickly finding the D2G is the least supported of the Droid devices and have the feeling I should have just bought the D2. It's been a bear trying to get information on this phone, let alone any decent ROMs that are working. That said I've got some issues with flashing backups, so here's the details.
Droid 2 Global
- CM7.1 (DROID2WE version) installed.
- Droid 2 Bootstrapper 1.0.0.5
- Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.3
First off, all the online documentation, including CM's site that CWM can be loaded by: "Hold the X key on the keyboard & the Power button until the device boots to the recovery." is incorrect. Doing so pulls up the PHONE recovery; the best way to get CWM to boot is to wait until the "M" logo comes up and the backlight on the screen turns off, then pressing and holding the power button for 5-10 seconds.
Now, I've tried both entering into recovery from ROM Manager, then creating a back up and rebooting into CWM recovery, then creating a backup. In both instances, the recovery will not restore; each and every time I've tried, I get this error: "Error while formatting /system". Keep in mind that I did NOT change the name of the backup (which I'm told can cause this error).
Supposedly, according to ROM Manager's page on the Market, the latest update was supposed to resolve the error/restore problem, but I've flashed 5.0.2.3 several times with no avail. I emailed Koush, but haven't received a response. To add to the issue, I haven't been able to get any other ROM to flash to the phone, like Liberty 3, for example, unless I flash SBF back to 2.4.330; it's almost like the phone doesn't like dealing with more than one ROM.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I can't find anyone else with the same issues in a finite post and certainly no wikis to explain the matter. I have an OG Droid that doesn't have any of these problems so I assume this is related to the D2G and not because I'm doing something wrong.
**EDIT** Scroll to last post for the resolution.
D2G has a locked bootloader. The custom ROMs are made for a certain kernel. A GB-based ROM won't load on the 2.4.x base, and vice versa, a Froyo ROM won't start on the 4.5.x base.
To install CWM, you need to use Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap from the Market. With stock ROMs booting into CWM is only possible by first booting into the OS, and then choosing Reboot Recovery in the Droid 2 Bootstrap Recovery app you installed before.
(I have never used ROM Manager because it's not really supposed to work well with the D2G.)
Also, it's worth noting that the “official” CM7.1 ROM is based on the Froyo kernel from 2.4.x firmware.
I've got the Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap installed. But that still doesn't explain why all the videos and people I see online can switch in between ROMs on other phones, but it's so hard on the D2G, or that I can't get a backup to install properly.
I've read online that using the Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap to reboot into recovery isn't advised; can anyone confirm?
It's not advised for CM7 and MIUI; those have their own recovery access methods, and CWM comes preinstalled. In CM7, you have to long press the power button, tap “Reboot”, and choose “Recovery” from the reboot menu.
On the most current (ICS-based) MIUI, you have to use the boot menu (press the Volume Down button during power on when the notification LED turns blue while the red Motorola logo is still displayed).
On stock firmware, however, the only way to access CWM is using koush's Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap and its Reboot Recovery option.
For most other phones, you just replace the stock recovery with CWM, and that gives you the same version of CWM whenever you boot into it.
On Motorola phones with locked bootloaders, CWM versions might differ between different ROMs, because CWM is installed as just another system component with the ROM itself, not outside the ROM inside the boot/recovery partition.
I am, however, unsure why are there such issues for you with backup and restore; I was able to use backup and restore on multiple occasions, and last time I did it was just 2 days ago when I switched between MIUI and stock about 7 times without resorting to SBF even once.
I thought the first few times it didn't 'restore' was because I installed CM7 incorrectly or that I didn't install the bootstrap correctly, but I've SBFd and installed CM7 at least 4 times now and I've never been able to restore; every time I do, I get the 'Error while formatting /system' message.
I really hope I'm just doing this wrong (though I don't see how) and someone can steer me in the right direction.
Wipe data/ cache?
If u use rom manager, go recovery via rom manager
I've done that every time, including wiping the cache partition AND Dalvik under 'advanced'. I found out it was the CM7 version I had installed, which was the 'stable' version that installs over Froyo. It was messing up all sorts of things. I installed one of the RevNightlies over the Gingerbread OTA and most of my problems resolved. I've still had a few instances of a backup not restoring right though... is that a common issue?
**EDIT**
Problem solved, thanks to the guys over @ Rootzwiki. If you have the D2G, you need to flash CWM for the Droid X (2nd-init). I did and backups/restores are working perfectly.
This is a HUGE issue, IMO. There's zero documentation on CWM online, so hopefully people will see this thread if they encounter the same issues I did.

I was also having this issue. Thank you for doing the research!
It's pretty frustrating because in ROM Manager, there's a Droid 2 Global option which you would think would be the obvious choice. Apparently D2G's really need DX-2ndInit.
I'm in DX-2ndInit Recovery on my D2G and it's actually doing functions instead of pretending. It's happily restoring a Nandroid backup that I made under the old original version of CWM that the D2Bootstrapper installed.
Edit: Nandroid Restore worked perfectly! All's going very well now and my phone is now running on AT&T on a GoPhone SIM. Looks like it can even jump on HSDPA!
Ok.. The manufacturer finally release ICS for this tablet, it initially does not have gapps..... you need to install CWM and reboot into recovery through ADB... like i said you need to have CWM already installed!!!!! this works on ALL my tablets i just checked it out... it has market, gmail, and superuser. once it is installed you can access recovery by holding down volume:up and power until recovery shows up... ( before It could not be done)
here is the link and instructions for CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378594
here is my nandroid:
http://www.2shared.com/file/HInNxhH1/2012-02-13143731.html
(i had to strip out google talk, it kept on giving me problems..)
on a side note you need a external card to access the nandroid, put it in /clockworkmod/backup/
i haven't tested anything else, ie can not load youtube app and not sure about video playback... netflix only plays sound not video...
if this helped you hit the like button.. i am poor and i only do this when i have time and out of love for this great device and OS.... i am not responsible if your wife leaves you or a natural disaster happens in your area or you brick that sucker.... flash at your own risk...
thanks goes out to everyone that made this possible... maybe i will see if i can port CM9 but don't hold me to that..
Good job, I was actually going to post this today as well until I searched to make sure no one else had already done it. CWM works great with this now that the capacitive buttons work, now to do some modding so we can get cm9 running on it. I still can't get netflix apk to stream, the sound works but no video.
ya i know! that sucks... i need to try to get a youtube app and push it to see if it works.. but i really love it... i wonder if i can try the momo9 cm9 and see what works and go from there.. but school and work keeps me busy as hell!!!
Google Talk works for me with "newtech25_for_ics4.0.3"- script
Google Talk does not work with anything I tried. Tried a lot of patches and versions. Any ideas ?
Try to reflash manufacture rom then newtech25_for_ics4.0.3 script.
i used this one http://www.sappasit.go.th/android/newtech25_for_ics4.0.3.zip
but if figured out there is bug in calendar sync with newtheck script. talk works also with video no problems at all
The gapps package I installed from clockwork mod had youtube in it and it works fine so I have no idea why netflix wouldn't work on ics when it was fine on the stock gb firmware.
what was the gapps package you used?
At this point two main issues
Market does not show system apps.
Some apps (google), even if installed from the Market gives a android system stop responding...
Update
Errors were due to Gapps not properly installed...
Small issue though Camera photos are up side down ?! Can anyone test it for me as well? as this may affect skype video calling ie.
Last thing to sort out Full market support and flash...
my camera works fine on mine, and i restored on 3 of the same tablets... i am working on finding a working google apps i guess... but everything works on mine. Weird, but i will lool for another ICS google apps and then do another nandroid. thanks for your feedback..
Use gapps v11 from CM9. Just flash them from CWM.

Thanks for the answer.
I'm on 2.3.4 from 20120107 when i press vol+ and power i only get a triangle with exclamation point inside and an android icon but nothing else.
So i need to flash ics first and then use cwm to flash the nandroid with gapps, right?
Regards
Hey I was trying to install CWM into my F1 and I cannot run the given scripts. It says permission denied. Any way to work this around?
It needs root. The easiest way is with Unlock Root.

As far as I know, the device comes pre rooted. I tried to root it again with superoneclick and it says it is already rooted.
Hello everyone,
I'd like to express my gratitude to the developers for their great work to keep this phone working..
I have a couple of questions and would appreciate all the help I can get to help me with the phone.
I had installed CM7 on my phone for 4 months during which it kept rebooting and giving me a lot of trouble, so I installed the russian stock sbf (since it has arabic) two days ago and it works great and fast, except for one thing: the battery drains extremely fast. Now, I consider installing the new ics recently posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069578
My questions:
1- The russian stock has everything I need and is fast and stable, so I do not want to go back to CM7 which keeps rebooting and wouldn't recognize my sd at times. Is there anyway I can improve battery life on it?
2- Would you please post how I can install the new ics in that link? Please be as specific as possible..
3- How do I clean my sd card? which folders should I not tamper with? it looks messy with all the different zips and folders..
Thank you all.. Happy new year
1 download rom
2 (if you have xt720 not motoroi)
3 in open recovery(in update)flash rom,gaaps and bootfix)
Got it
It took me a while and some research to apply it.. Thanks for your reply.. I will try to post the steps I did so that people like me won't have the problems I had.. I needed to refresh my memory to remember what I did when I first rooted the phone and installed 7.2 a while ago..
BTW.. I couldn't find the keyboard.. the only/default input is the google voice typing!! isn't there an android keyboard for this mod? or do I have to install one from the market<-----------which will mean a lot of pain to sign into my google account then searching for a keyboard using voice typing
Update:
I was able to find an apk for a trial of swiftkeyboard, so I installed it and installed a keyboard from google play and everything is working fine.. I love this mod, it's fast and still no problems; except for video recording (which I don't use) and the voice search which recognizes the commands but does not do anything else..
You can usually use the same steps as other roms:
Make sure you have OpenRecovery. See the OpenRecovery thread with detailed instructions.
Download rom zip file and copy into /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates
Turn off device
Hold power and volume up to enter recovery. (You should see a white box with an arrow coming out of it going into a phone. If you see a yellow triangle, something went wrong.)
Go to Apply Update (use the volume keys to move up/down and camera key to select)
Pick the rom (and in this case, then pick the bootfix and gapps)
Go Back to main menu
Now do three wipes: There's three wipe options (dalvik, cache, and user data). Most mod makers recommend wiping all of these, but when you wipe user data, you lose everything you stored on the phone (but not sd card). So your game highscores, sms messages (backup app), etc...
Reboot system

I didn't even have google voice when I installed (I think I forgot gapps), but this thread has stock ICS keyboards and instructions.

still not working i used stock rom motoroi since my phone is motoroi 39.50 froyo 2.2.1 before flashing this rom. like i did in miui but the 3g is working on that rom. should i flash a milestone stock rom.
NO!!!!
You have a motorio xt720.
When you flash cm9 you should not flash bootfix it is the milestone xt720 im just guessing you might have flash are bootfix that why you dont have 3g.

The bootfix in general is a patch to be applied when a ROM was developed for one version of a model of phone, but because two phones are so similar, it can be used on other versions of the same model of phone, with a few tweaks. The bootfix performs those tweaks. If you were to have a Motoroi and you actually applied the bootfix also, I mean logically it wouldn't think it would be harmful (just redundant), but I don't know enough about how the patching process works to accurately predict that. If you did this and you were experiencing issues, back up your data and do it over, without applying the bootfix.
In specific to the XT720, there are two versions of this model: the Motoroi and the Milestone. There are ROMs that were developed for the Motoroi that actually work on the Milestone also, with a few tweaks. The bootfix patch includes those tweaks. It fixes things like rotation issues, etc. If you didn't apply the bootfix and you have a Milestone, you would absolutely run into issues. Redo it, applying the bootfix.
Scenario 1:
You want to load a ROM that was developed for Motoroi users. You have a Motoroi. You would simply install the ROM, Gapps if you wish, and do your wipes. You should be good to go.
Scenario 2:
You want to load a ROM that was developed for Motoroi users. You have a Milestone. You would intstall the ROM, Gapps if you wish, AND install the bootfix patch, then do your wipes. This would fix any incompatibility issues between Motoroi and Milestone.
All of the ROMs posted in the dev forum are very clear in instructions (and plenty of discussion afterward in replies to the thread) as to whether or not a bootfix needs to be applied. Of course, you need to determine what kind of XT720 you have, in order to make a decision as to which instructions you will follow.
That's my "non-technical" answer!
