Battery now dying... - T-Mobile LG G2x

So I'm like wtf all of a sudden my battery is like at 40% by noon, and I recharge and it gets to the same within a couple of hours }
I don't get it not even a year yet
BTW I'm stock froyo/ rooted
Bad battery ? Any one else experience this? I have juice defender set CPU
Battery stats say main cause is "cell standby" any tricks to fix this?
No I'm not going to gb
meh...

Well, in the end, that's the best that froyo can do for the G2X...
I had Froyo and i pulled off 6hrs, when i got GB i was able to pull off 8, so yea, juice defender really wouldn't give you that much more battery life, the best shot is to upgrade the ROM.

i would consider updating it :/ i've never had froyo but since i've been using gb i get 15+ hours out of my phone and that's with heavy texting, internet browsing, some netflix watching and a little gaming. but cell standby seems to be my biggest problem too i wish i could fix that

Running froyo I was getting at least 14-16 hours.
Usually bad battery life can be accredited to less-than-optimal user settings, heavy device usage, or there's a rogue app that's sucking your battery down.

and as you can see i still have about half a battery left. the only precaution i really take is that my brightness is almost down to zero. and on my old phone it used to show in the battery settings if i used a certain application such as internet or ebuddy. i have no idea why it won't show those on this device so you can't see my heavy internet usage, gaming and some netflix watching.

and just for reference i'm running complete stock no root or anything. i'm now on one day and two hours worth of battery with 30% still left

I had froyo on my phone for about 3 hours and I lost 10%. I have any version of GB on my phone and I lost 10%/hour. So it's a huge jump ATM.

Hey OP, can you post a list of your apps? Use listables. I want to compare it against mine. If there are any similar apps then I'm going to disable/uninstall mine and check battery life and report back.

Have you tried booting into recovery and erasing battery data? That greatly improved battery life on my Nexus S after it had undergone multiple ROM flashes.

The ROM you're using is a huge matter. With CM7, i couldn't go a day without charging. Now, with MIUI, I'm pretty sure I can get 3 days, with normal brightness, and my normal use, which is email and texting.

Holy **** I finally found someone with WIND Lol! Okay, what are your settings though? Do you have it set to WCDMA Only?
Is 3G turned on? Cause I can barely get like 14 hours moderate usage with dim brightness :S
I noticed that with cell radio on I used 10% in 57 minutes and with it off I used 1% in 1.5 hours...

I'll try tonight! Just letting it fully charge, then wiping/calibrating!

I found that if I turn data off sync off the battery lasts over twice as long. I don't need it consistently on, so I turn it on when I'm not busy. Works for me

You know what I find weird. It doesn't matter if I turn data off or not cell standby will still use the same amount of battery and my battery still drains at the same rate.

[Q] Has anyone found a solution for the poor battery life experienced by some of us?

I've removed notifications from apps, uninstalled google+, exchanged my battery with Verizon, and I'm still getting under 6 hours with moderate use using my stock phone.
Creating more threads certainly won't help.
I was able to correct my battery issue recently, however, there is no guaranteed fix and if there is, I haven't fount it.
Also, I'm not running a stock Charge, so you can't really compare your Charge to mine.

I would think there is a problem w/ the phone. Mine lasts all day (17-18hrs) 1.5-2hrs screen on time, handfull of phone calls and texts, notifications and widgets refreshing. Usually there is between 10 and 35% remaining when I plug in for the night.
I get great battery life. Here are the requirements(lol).
1)Humble(battery saving ROM)
2)Juicedefender(If you like the free app you may want to buy Ultimate, its kinda pricy but I think it's worth it)
3)Always charge your phone with the power off, it gives it a full charge.
4)Possibly the most important step is to ALWAYS task kill and clear RAM after you're done with an app(phone comes with Task Manger pre-installed. Hitting the home key does NOT close the app it just puts it in standby meaning it can keep your phone from sleeping(Kills battery life) and with it running in the background is just killing even more battery life.
Follow the above steps and I can('t) guarantee you great battery life. I say can('t) because I don't want to get hate if it for some reason doesn't work for you :] Enjoy!

+1 for that...
Humble Froyo is the longest lasting ROM/kernel imho, I can last all day with heavy usage.
Shut GPS off. For some reason, my GPS keeps refreshing at incredibly tight intervals (sub 5 minutes). Haven't figured out what program is causing that, but as soon as I shut GPS off until I need to use it, I've gone from 6-8 hours of battery life to easily 15-18.
I've tried humble for 2 days and I barely get 5 hours, but due to difficulties, the rom was not installed when my battery was at 100%. I plan on trying again tonight. Thanks for the advice about GPS. I usually turn it off, but I find myself using maps and yelp to find local places.

FYI, Juicedefender did not play nice with my phone (worked fine on my OG droid). It would work fine in a solid 4g area, but in fringe areas the data would not come back and I would have to reboot to get it back. Since removing JD I have never had a problem with no data.

I had the exact same experience with Juice Defender. Feeling annoyed that I ended up shelling out for the Ultimate version in the hopes it might work better and it doesn't.
I get mediocre battery life...about 10-12 hours with moderate usage...nowhere near the 20+. I'll have to give it a shot for turning off GPS to see if that resolves anything.
GPS is a huge battery hog. Put the power control widget on your home screen do you can control gps wifi etc from one shortcut.

juice defender has been working fine on my phone (however i am rarely in 4g unless i am working so i usually have 4g turned off with 4g switch). My battery has lasted forever i am currently on hour 25 with little to moderate use and about 64 percent battery left.
before i turned 4g off and installed juice defender i would get around 10 to 12 hours of battery life on my phone.

Which 4g switch would you recommend? I'm trying the LTE Switch by buttercrumbs for free since the others either cost 99 cents or don't work with the Charge.
Edit: Looks like LTE Switch doesn't have a widget. It'd be nice if there was a one-click solution. LTE switch takes 3-4 clicks to switch between CDMA and LTE.

I have never been over 24 hours with my normal usage. With heavy usage it's maybe 18 or less hours.I really don't understand people say they have still %54 battery life after 30 hours since they unplug the battery.
Are you connecting continously on wifi/3g?
Are you getting gmail/facebook/twitter synch.about hourly?
Are you surfing on web min.1 hours in a day?
These are what i do with juice defender 15.minutes interval connection with not too much talk on phone.
If you do these and your battery goes 2 days, please tell me how to do.

For the most part, people don't use their phone. I don't have a picture of it, but yesterday I had 32% left when I started charging my phone, and it's up-time was 2 days and 2 hours. That was only possibly because my total screen on time was only 1.5 hours—in 2 days, remind you. I also disable Wifi, 3G, etc. when I'm not using it.
This is what i mean.We are not observing stand-by time.We should talk about our battery life according to our usage.

Different people use their phones for different things, and for a largely different amount of time each day. I find the most accurate representation of "daily usage" is to have the time since unplugged and the display on-time figures. Maybe the OP would consider adding a 2 picture requirement for this thread?
Also guys put into consideration extended batteries. I just put one in my evolution and omg incredible I've only lost 20% since 330pm and its now 950pm. running juice defender with tia 337 on evodeck 1.3d

So ok, my screenshot wasn't a typical day of use for me A normal day I would plug in the phone at the end of the day with roughly 25-30 percent left (so on average roughly 14 hours between time unplugged and plugged in). My screen shot was a weekend shot, when I don't use the phone much, as you can tell.
This shot is more typical of a normal day for me.
Miui rom, tiamat kernel, Oc'd 1.2ghz... this was taken a few months back.
I don't know anyone having an Android phone, and to have enough battery for more than 2 days. It's because of the touch screen and hardware, not the OS.
I agree. Its totally pointless having a single screen shot that shows a %.
I think we should ask each person to show the "on" time for the the top 2-3 % hoggers to see how much was actually "used".
This is especially helpful when it comes to the display.
For ex: My screen shot will also show display as 45-50% of the battery hog....BUT I only get 90 minutes of "on" time as opposed to 3-4 hours like many seem to get.
That's at the lowest brightness setting mind you
Also---what device are we using with which rom etc etc might be useful to know as well.
I think the kernel is the biggest indicator. When I run a rom on stock kernel (Sense 2.2 for example) on 1ghz I get about 50% less use (both standby and screen on time) than the same kernel but with overclock and undervolt. Undervolt kernels are really the best thing and I think the time that it takes to tune it to the lowest stable voltages for your specific phone really pay off.
i made a post few months back in the SGS2 forum showing nearly 2 days on battery stats with stock rom (i left my SGS2 at home and carried around my bb the whole weekend)

No, it's the OS. The OS requires insane hw to run smoothly, so you can't blame the hw makers.
On the other hand, I can easily get 2+ days with very light GPS usage, lots of Facebook and web, ton of SMS and Spotify streaming. Of course my OS had about 10 years to mature and doesn't insist on constantly being connected to the 'net. Oh, all this without any programs or custom ROMs or the undervolting nonsense.

I'm looking to get a thunderbolt today and was wondering how has every ones battery life been. I'm making the switch from a ip4. So I hope doing the right thing. iOS is just getting so stale I want something new. So has is your battery life once u rooted and on the stock battery.

Battery probably around same or slightly worse, but its 4g and 32 gig, its easily rooted, alot of different roms n looks, its really great, and ive only had 8 days. I am a advanced flasher also, done roms atleast 1000 times.

Thanks. If I can root n get at least 8 hours min. I'm fine. I'm just getting tired of the whole apple experience.
Thats easy, on most 2.1/3.0, aosp, overclocking not necessary, i can get 10-12 hours, n i dont care, i got 3 chargers. Its a good phone imo. U can run 3.5 with beats easy on this phone, but 2.1 with sound enhancer is just s good.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I can get around 7hrs on stock and about 16hrs on extended. Running ICS ROM
Luke
It depends on how u use it.
This is what I have left after few calls, browser, exchange+gmail+Facebook sync & 1 hr of Pandora
Only MIUI ROM so far I could achieve this. The other rom Ive tried is shiftao5p
Lastly if u are in 1-2 bars area, your battery will run out fast

I bought the rezound battery and noticed a pretty big difference. Also, I finally gave up sense roms and went with liquid smooth 3.2. Battery has been phenomenal. I can get through an entire day, even on 4G and moderate to heavy usage (screen on 4 hours) and not worry about battery until I'm in my bed messing around before I'm about to plug in and fall asleep.
Edit: here is me on wifi all day using up the battery with almost 4 hrs screen on time. On pure 3g 4G I'd be closer to 20-30 percent.
My GF has the extended battery and can go two days without charging (light use)
Loving the phone by by iPhone but anyway. Just rooted and messing around with these roms. Just don't know which one to stick with their are so many.
I'm on the stock rom and with light usage can easily get a full day out of a charge (I'm using the rezound battery now, but was similar with the stock battery). With very light usage, i can even make it overnight and through at least most of the next day on a full charge. Gaming, navigation, or a lot of downloading can run down the battery quickly. My so has an iphone4s and doesn't seem to get a ton better battery life.

Almost 5 hours of display on time. Mix in about 6 hours of sleeping but lots of Texting, rootz, xda, and Twitter. Imo kernel undervolted not overclocked, and 12 hours were in a bad signal area at my work in hospital I am talking -102 so battery could be better.

I get around 8-10 hours on fairly regular use and towards 12 when I use it lightly. The biggest difference maker for me was not JuiceDefender or any battery saver program like that. It was using SetCPU once I rooted my phone and setting a profile up so when my screen is off, the processor drops to the ~200 MHz range. Definitely a must-have program for anyone who is rooted.
i keep everything running at max and carry a second battery pack with me... ill just swap them and am back to 100%... 2 full loads bring me through the day usually.
I suggest you to check this post and these batteries. This will solve any power issues you might have with your Tbolt
The rezound batteries work in the bolt also.
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
root + SetCPU
Pretzel pretty much hit the nail on the head. Once I rooted the phone I froze all of the stock bloatware, then installed SetCPU. Like Pretzel said, make it so when phone is asleep it only runs @ ~200mhz. Also do small things like turn screen brightness down and make backlight timeout 15 seconds.
Also, I cannot stress this enough
Your battery life will drastically change depending on what apps you have installed. When I download a new app I try to limit it to one at a time and watch my phone for the next few hours and see if my battery is running out quicker than usual. This has happened so many times to me where I install something with a 80% battery and then like 4 hours later its dead.
So with just the stock Rom, rooted, bloatware frozen, SetCPU, and about 60 battery friendly apps, I can get usually around 20 hours with light to moderate use.
The biggest difference on battery drain is if you have LTE enabled. Just download LTE OnOff and only turn it on when needed.

Qcell 3850mah battery tests!

Got this battery today and decided to show it off because I haven't seen too many threads about it.
Review:
So far I can already tell the battery life is much better. I was messing around with some apps with wifi on for 20-30 minutes and the battery was still at 97%. I am running Nexus 4 rom with a overclocked cpu 1.73ghz and a overclocked gpu with about 50% brightness. The bludge on the back isnt as thick as I thought it was and barley adds any bulk... only problem with it is the back cover that comes with it is very bad quality and has cracks on it that are going to break if i try to take it off lol... But for 20$ its still a great deal, and im getting the sedio case which will work on it! Pics coming tomorrow on that so check back...
___________________________________________________________________
"test" ( NOTE THE BATTERY IS NOT CALIBRATED YET! MOST LIKELY WILL INCREASE MORE! )
I used the app "Juice Offender" to drain the battery as fast as possible to calibrate it.
The app is advertised to drain 1%/minute on the average android phone... So far I have been running this app non-stop for 2 hours now and the battery is at 55%.
with the normal battery at 1%/minute the phone would have been dead after 100 minutes, or 1 hour 40 minutes... with the extended battery its still 20 minutes after the normal battery would have died and keeping a good 55%, which means even when its not calibrated it keeps its 3850mah rating which is 2x the capacity of the original battery!
Again this is the pic after 2 hours running "Juice offender , which turns the brightness to 100%, wifi on, constantly vibrating, max cpu load ( overclocked ), location services on, camera flash on, and bluetooth on.

Well, yeah that is too, but he used JUICE OFFENDER.
Ok I used to be an avid juice defender user, however it defends juice by shutting off networks and making smart phone dumb phone.
I stopped when the app juice defender was unable to restore my network connections this happened several times unfortunately, so I had to stop using my paid version.

Yup, cheapo batteries are never as good. I don't see the point in risking a $600 device to save $10 on a crap battery
i've had the seidio for a few months now and I love it i'm a heavy user constantly on my phone and it easily last me through the day don't buy crap batteries.....also getting a given extended battery will post a little head to head

Juice Defender = Saves battery by controlling radio and brightness amongst other functions of the phone
Juice Offender = Kills the battery intentionally by maxing everything out on the phone for performance/endurance tests.
Using Qcell battery and stock battery at same time
I am using Qcell battery and stock battery at the same time. I don't see the difference at all. Should I use only qcell battery?

Use the qcell for a week only and break it in, you need to calibrate it. But I have noticed a much improvement in battery life, both in screen on and standby time. 15 hours the second day with 4-5 hours screen on. I could not even get 2 hours screen on, on stock battery.

Battery life.

How's everybody's battery life doing since you've had the new one? Mine has been pretty amazing so far. Haven't been using it hardcore but still using normally like how I used my older m7. Instagram, xda, updating apps, little gaming here and there, play music, camera and have gotten 30 hours off my first full charge all while on 4g, didn't turn wifi on once. Here's a screen shot of my usage. That flat lines on the graph is when I was sleeping. What's everybody else been getting?

I've been getting amazing results as well. Haven't had it for more than a day though so I've been trying to run it down to zero but that alone has-been tough.

How on earth?? I don't do any gaming, mostly facebook/twitter/instagram/texting/reddit with the occasional youtube video, automatic screen brightness and wifi 99% of the time (since I got the M8) and I'm lucky to pull 15hrs :/
It's not heavy use its moderate but I'm not getting anywhere near as good battery life as you :/
Get about 8-9 hours.
I'm getting around 16 hours, moderate use
I think I was doing better on my sgs3 with 3000 mah on aosp. time will tell if this gets better

Same here. I just checked the Battery History and doesn't seem to be accurate for me. I took my device off the charge this morning (first night last night fully charging) at 100% around 6am. It is now 3pm and have 38% battery life left. Looking at the Settings, battery, history info though my chart shows the graph starting between the 60 and 80 mark, says 4h 6m 40s on battery, WiFi shows full green bar (but wifi has been off all this time, wtf is this?), Awake in spurts, same with screen on, Mobile network signal faint green bar all the way.
Says at bottom 11am to basically 3pm so just started analyzing battery history at 11am today?

Yea, I definitely was also. Even on a battery that was a year old.

That's the new always on scanning they put in after starting with 4.3. It's not supposed to use a lot of power but you can turn it off in the advanced wifi settings.
Looks like my post got deleted somehow...
Oh well, here's my batt life as of this morning.
via my M8
After my first full charge I'm at 36 hours and still have 14% left
I can't complain..
Here goes my experience. I worked today and wasn't able to use my phone a lot..but i would say moderate use and moderate to heavy use after work. No root no s-off. Plain stock and I love it.

I was getting amazing results with jus the temp. root.
I recently did the s-off, custom recovery and perm. root and my battery life went to crap immediately.
Best battery life I've gotten so far and still at 25% with normal use
I'm getting around 17-18 hours after random used.
I've noticed no ill effects from perm root, s-off, or custom recovery. Things are just as good as always. For reference, I get anywhere between four to four and a half hours of screen-on time at medium brightness, no wifi at any point in the day. Coverage is so-so at my desk so it does search for signal quite a bit. I'm sure I could get more if I was in a strong coverage area. How badly did your battery life tank after perm-root? Were there any root apps you installed after the perm-root that could be affecting it?

I was getting on average 5-6 hours of screen on time. Yesterday I barely got 3.
I haven't installed anything since the perm. root, or changed any other settings on the phone.
No complaints here. This is the best day I've gotten. I have tweaked a few things.
S-off and root will never affect your battery life, there is literally no mechanism for it to do that. Anyone who says otherwise is lying, incompetent, or experiencing a placebo effect. If you want excellent battery life (mine was averaging 0.3-1.2% per hour with lte on) then turn off google now (at least turn off location reporting), you can leave location services on but keep it at low battery, greenify anything you dont need notifications for, and don't install apps you don't actually use. Get trickster mod, set the powersave core grouping thing to 1, thermal throttling on, and use powersaver 24/7. I have had powersaver enabled without *any* loss in performance (hide the icon too).
very happy with mine.
