Can I Use the Infuse on Straight Talk? - Samsung Infuse 4G

can you use the Infuse on Straight Talk? If so, how?

Yeah i am using my infuse on straight talk.
Buy a Nokia e71 or the other exspensive Nokia. You may also be able to buy the new android phone offered by straight talk.
Buy a 45 dollar month long plan card.
Activate the phone you buy.
Place the sim card in your infuse and it will work right away for calls with no unlocking needed.
Search for android straight talk APN settings and input them into your phone.
Viola.

Now if my infuse is unlocked do i still have to go through all this or just activate a straight talk phone and pop the sim in and have all the mms calls and data goodness?
S7 Infuse 1.6 Ghz

You don't even have to unlock the phone if it was AT&T to begin with.
Buy the Nokia e71, activate it and port your number. Take the SIM out of the nokia, put it in the Infuse. Connect to wifi and download "APN Backup & Restore" from the market.
Download this file, unzip it, and put the xml file in /sdcard/APNBackupRestore

Somewhat off topic but will this work for the Inspire as well?

Yes, pretty much any android phone that takes sims, except for this...
It's best to get an At&t phone if you want the fastest data. If you have a t-mobile phone, it will work (if unlocked), but you won't get 4 or even 3g. Other phones from around the world would probably work, no guarantees though.

A few comments - while I don't have direct personal experience with this, this is what I believe is the case from a few conversations on IRC:
1) You must buy one of the $200 Nokias. All of ST's other phones come with SIMs that are somehow locked to the phone they were sold with. (Kind of the counterpart to a locked phone - these are locked SIMs!)
2) After activating with the Nokia, you must keep the device. If you sell it and someone else activates service with it, your service will be shut off.

Swapping services

So I had the Inspire 4G on AT&T and my girlfriend became an ex and now I don't have service. I was wondering if I can swap the ROM to a Verizon ROM and run it on their network. Please help.
Short answer, no. The long answer has to do with radio frequencies and technology used. For voice and 2G data you could use T-mobile. You may have a regional service provider option also. I do not know what is available in your area.
No you can't. ATT is gsm and Verizon is cdma. You could use it on tmobile if its unlocked but will only get edge speeds.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Your best option is to sell the phone now, while its hot and get some good money off of it and buy another phone.
I personally am still pretty new to rooting and all but doesn't verizon have sim cards for their world phones?
Thanks for the information, I didn't think I would be able to. It is rooted but I need to do a complete wipe on the phone and return it to stock with root. Thanks for the help and hopefully I will be able to sell this with some scuffs on it. Maybe just try for $100 rooted.
or unlock it and use simple mobile... unlimited everything for like 60 bucks a month, ( and 3g ) no contract. but check coverage.. etc....
Why not do the most simple thing get a pay as you go phone. Swap the sim into the inspire. $50 unlimited everything. Don't try telling me it wont work either. I have used two different iphones and a blackberry on pay as you go. And dont try the different sim thing either. When I went contract they had me use the same sim. Just go get a cheap pay as you go phone register it swap the sim and try it out.
Buddy 3g won't work. The frequency bands are not compatible with tmkbile(simple mobile). Unless you got Att or a side branch that runs off at towers and signal, you will ONLY get Edge speeds end of story. Don't proven using tmobile and simple mobile.

Dude really come on man you don't have to call them every time you change phones. By the way read yourself the fine print doesn't say anything about price per KB. Says it requires a data plan. Ok I tried to keep this nice but sense you you want to get rude about it. Let me let you in on a little secret, for the past few months att has been locking the prepaid sim cards to the phone by IMEI they are activated on for 6 months. The only way to have it unlocked is by calling them to get it unlocked in which case they want the imei of the new phone. They have also implamented the IMEI scan they do for the contract lines. So even if you have an older sim card that is not locked, After a while then will notice and data will stop working. Now How do I know this you ask? I just spent the last year as the Store manager for a local ATT retail store. So the next time you decide to be rude, you might want to take a min and think that maybe, just maybe you dont have all the facts.
And I do stand corrected on the pay-per use data. That was what it did before they started blocking it.

AT&T Go Phone on Inspire?

I've tried searching, but couldn't find an answer, so here goes:
Has anyone tried using their Inspire on AT&T's go phone prepaid service? I went into the AT&T store and noticed that they now have an android phone for their go phone service. I've tried a prepaid sim and it works (though it only has talk and text), but would the $50 unlimited talk, text, and web work for us?

For smartphone users, the data is not included, just the unlimited calling and texting. You must purchase the data seperately and the plans are not so good. $5 for 10mb, $15 for 100mb, $25 for 500mb.

No you cant use unlimited data on. You have to buy data package. 500MB ~ 25$.
So if you have 50$ unlimited just for minutes and sms. I tried to do that but it's not working. More, you have to change APN in order to use data.

Straight Talk has both GSM (ATT) and CDMA (verizon) phones. And you can't use an unlocked inspire with them anymore. The only way to do it before was to buy the $200 nokia phone. The rest of straight talk's gsm phones had sim cards locked to the phones. The nokia did not. But now even the nokia phones lock their sim chips to the phone. And even those with older unlocked sims are being caught by straight talk and having their accounts closed.

I was thinking of doing the same thing myself. But I did some researching on the internet. Hopefully it holds out for you. Let us know if you have any issues down the road.
I'm using my unlock inspire 4g with prepaid service. No problem its working. I don't have data plan I always use wifi.
How did you get the inspire 4g to read the go phone? Because it's not getting any signal from mine. There will be an X over the signal bars. I already unloked the phone.
I have the go phone thing haha it sucks all I have is unlimited txtn it works for me no joke and miui is great cause the option to still connect when data is disabled so no worry about connecting to the internet

[Q] Can I straight talk my Moto Atrix?

I'm currently a Straight Talk Android user (LG Optimus Q). Love the service but not the phone. I have a At&T phone that i love but need to know if anyone know how to program it (At&T Moto Atrix 4G) into a Straight Talk Pre-paid. I know they sell the sim card but is it gonna work with this phone?
I signed up for Straight Talk with my Atrix 4g last week and so far I'm loving it. Since my phone was previously on ATT, I notice absolutely no divergence in behavior or coverage. Except that now I'm not getting dinged for texts or MMS.
I'm going to move my wife's Atrix over immediately.
As long as you buy the sim for a at&t phone there is no issues. Works great. I set my girl up that way and she dont even notice its pre paid...lol...

How to make the switch
I've been reading up on this with much interest. I have an Atrix and have been on ATT for several years. I'd like to stay with ATT but want to try using straightalk. I'm confused on how to make the switch.
Would I just get the sim from straightalk.com and acitvate it? I've been grandfathered in to ATT's "unlimited" data plan. It doesn't bother me to lose that since I'd be getting basically the same thing from straightalk.
Do I have to notify ATT that I'm switching to straightalk, or is that made transparent somehow? Thanks for any input.

I was told that it would only get 3g (it only really ever got 3.5 g anyway lol) and I would just need to buy the correct sim card. You would just need to unlock it. If att will give you the unlock the phone its cool but you should just do it yourself and pick a rom you like.

Broadcasted from the Redneck-Riviera in LA using my Sammy s2 and a little duct tape.

I have purchased the wifi 10.1, should I have gotten a carrier operated one?

Ok so Ive purchased the wifi operated one for my pops. Hes old and is always back and forth on his microsoft laptop so I figured this would make things a lot easier for him. He likes it so far. He currently has a verizon flip phone that is hooked up on Page Plus. Im not sure how the carrier operated ones work or what they do, can someone explain so I can have a better understanding so I then can figure out if I should return and get him the carrier operated one.
1) Im assuming you can pop a sim card in and pay for a plan but can you make phone calls like a cell phone?
2) is this wifi tablet that he currently have able to make wifi calls atleast?
3) I cant talk him into a smartphone so he will probably never make calls with a carrier based tablet, but he may want to have a data connection continuously when out and about. So im guessing getting a carrier based one would be necessary for this.
4) again, he has a verizon flip phone running on page plus which uses verizons towers, do they make a samsung verizon galaxy tab 2 or just sprint and at&t?
5) I was also considering the galaxy tablet note but baby steps for the old man lol....but I thought he might use the tv/tablet function.......but probably not, too much explaining lol
Any info to clear some things up would be great please.....I only have 15 days to return it.

I love my GT2 10.1" It's connected to AT&T because that is my carrier. The Verizon one I have cost me $30 a month. (I think they got rid of the tab only plan and jammed shared data down their customers throat. So it cost $40 a month.

Yea man, thanks a lot. So basically if I did decide to get the verizon one, he may be able to use his same plan for data?
And while we are on the subject, how the heck do I get his contact off his senior flip phone to a new google account? If he still had verizon, they woukd be synced with verizon and I can grab the .csv file from there site and import in google, but now that he has page plus(verizon towers still), im not sure if he can access the verizon backup site...is there another way without inputting manually?

The international unlocked P3100 version has phone call feature. I'm debating getting this tablet for that feature since my Nexus 7 3G doesn't have it, but there's seems to be less development and the spec and screen resolution isn't as good. Although I do like having microSD slot since even the 32GB on the Nexus 7 isn't enough to hold my craps. People must like this thing a lot since I can't even find used ones for sale. Wouldn't mine more feedbacks from P3100 owners.
Also I'm confused about the carrier bands of this model, GSMArena posted:
HSDPA 900 / 2100 - GT-P3100
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - GT-P3105
However I read the contrary from Amazon reviews. Can someone confirm does the P3100 version work with ATT and/or TMobile 3G? Otherwise I'll have to pass on it.

I don't know about Page Plus, and how they operate. Sounds like a prepaid account. I only use post paid, because even though prepaid my be cheap for the individual, it could get pricey for a family plan. Personally I think you should have him check out the Note 2. It is big, I owned it for a while, but if I wanted a big phone I could use as a tablet (It even comes with a S-Pen) I would use it. I am not sure how Verizon handles the contacts.
If the flip phone has something called send vcard you can do that with his contacts and then in his google account on a computer import the vcards to his contacts,I did it with my work phone they supplied me

Just received my SIM card from straight talk for the i535 all I did was go to straight talk web site activate the phone using the phone imei number then start phone with SIM card installed> Once SIM card was activated I restarted the phone and had LTE with no need to setup APN settings.
I just shut off the verizon service right before setting up the phone on ST so I do not know if thats has effected anything but hopefully it doesn't.
Also I had to contact Straight Talk using their facebook page to get the SIM card and it was shipped for free.

Good to know, I get my sim card from straight talk tomorrow. I didn't imagine it was that hard to setup. You did the smart thing and went to facebook, like an idiot I called them and it took well over a week for them to send it

Oh it took them a while to send it to me also. I had even told them to cancel it and thats when I went to Verizon. I was told at one point that the SIM cards should be in stores around December 5th,

What he's saying is he had a VZW phone on VZW and cancelled his service to go with Straight Talk I believe

That's correct. I am now with straight talk with a VZW S3
All I had to do was get the sim card from straight talk and call them to activate it. It was a pretty simple process

So you didn't have to hack the phone or anything?? Verizon is CDMA and Straight Talk is GSM, how did that work? Especially without setting up a new APN?
Oh and did you get the AT&T or TMobile sim? I think straight talk still has the option for either.

It does but straight talk told me the AT&T and T-Mobile sims won't work for this phone. They sent me a CDMA specific sim card, and cmda phones will indeed work on straight talk, not every single one but most
And no I didn't have to do anything with the phone, didn't have to edit apn settings or anything. I'm still running off the Verizon network

Wait, Straight Talk has Verizon SIM's now??? Meaning Verizon is one of their MVNO's? I always thought it was just TMobile and AT&T and Tracfone leased off Sprint for CDMA based phones.

Tracphone owns straight talk for one. It's a straight talk sim... But they piggy back off all 4 networks. VZW, ATT, TMobile and sprint

Are you referring to me?
I was. However I hooked my Old S3 up for a family member. I can confirm that the VZW S3 will get 4G LTE on the Verizon network with the CDMA Sim that comes with the starter pack. Ran a speed test at full signal strength and had an initial burst for ~9-10 mbs and stabilized at ~5mb both up and down. This is way more than the user of the phone will need but also not a bad number.
For comparison sake my personal phone on a VZW unlimited plan still gets 40+ mbs during speed tests in the same location. Appears that ST is speed limited but at 5mbs still more than 99.9% of users will ever need/notice at one time.

Yea I'm not worried about speed as I'm 99% of the time on wifi so I could care less now. The initial starter pack didn't come with the CDMA sim. Card which is a pain but now it does

Quick question for those that have done this already - I have just ordered the Galaxy S3 I535 from walmart because i'm cheap and it was on special - Would it be wise to at least activate the phone on Verizon and entering the details on ST's site to make sure it will work before getting the sim or just ordering it (they are on special right now for .99c) I'm glad they are doing the CDMA sims because i had read that folks were only getting edge for data using the AT&T sims and was prepared to limit myself to being on the Verizon prepaid plan and just sucking it up...

If its the prepaid version it may not work, the prepaid version doesn't utilize a sim card where as the contract version does

Probably a good idea. I'm truly unsure if it will work or not. I have the S3 contract version and it works great on straight talk. Another user informed me the prepaid version doesn't utilize a sim which in most cases at least for VZW means no 4G
