Nice first post.

Good looks, downloading now.

Flashing now, will post results. Using odin btw.
Edit:
Still get the scrambled rainbow screen. Doesn't look like this is going to be the official release.

Use Odin to install it. Put the tar file in the PDA slot and flash away. Best to revert to stock first then flash. It ran fine for me just no way to root yet that on aware of.

BTW, the Samfirmware download and the UCKI4 leak that was posted here earlier are identical.
So just another leak - no evidence whatsoever that this is official, esp. since it lacks bootloaders.

OK, so what would I use to install this? Odin?
So far, I have used SuperOneClick to root, then downloaded this (Infuse), and that's as far as I am. Just got the phone a few hours ago. Thanks!

Flash rogers ketnel right after u flash rom before u reboot and then reboot and you can root it. Been there done that..

Yes, this is an Odin-flashable release.
Note that if you're brand new to the Infuse you might not want to run this - it's not quite ready for primetime.

...tried Kies Mini at 11:03am EST and it was working. I've been messing with the phone for the last half hour now and have found that I am pretty happy with the e-mail updates, browser updates, and the fact that the update didn't remove any of the data from my phone that I can tell. I just have to re-organize my home screen and get my icons and widgets the way I like them.

Ask your friend to download Kies Mini software from Samsung support site. Then he connects the phone to it and it will automatically upgrade. ROM image files (which are already leaks a few days ago) are useless to you unless you want to use ODIN tools.

No, bone stock. The Kies Mini was also updated on my machine a few days ago, on the 19th, I think.
As for the update, it went smooth. I cannot find anywhere the update file is on my host machine, as if it used the phone's memory to store it as it downloaded it.
It appears that Samsung was listening to some of the wish list stuff. I almost forgot to check to see if copy/paste was active in Exchange or not, as well as the browser. There is a MUCH improved copy/paste in the web browser, but no copy or text selection in the e-mail prog.
.
Great, I can't wait to try this out at home. Does anyone that has updated to the 2.2 use HeyTell? If so, can you verify if it is working correctly?

so why use official 2.2 when there is better? looks? smooth? better than a custom rom? if not then why are people wasting their time upgrading? not trying to ***** just wondering why the hype when really its almost downgrading.
edit: those of you who like to stay close to stock, i understand why you want to upgrade. its the others that dont make sense.

This thread should probably be merged with the main upgrade thread here, but...
For me, I never bothered to mess with the Captivate. First and foremost, I didn't want to void my warranty. Otherwise, it was just because I didn't feel like messing with it. I have three phones, one of which never has a SIM in it (Captivate). I use mine as a tablet more than anything else. Well, a really small tablet
I'm biding my time until I either get the Infuse or a tablet of some sort. Until then, I don't feel like messing with it. Had the update not worked as quickly and smoothly as it did, I wouldn't have bothered.
.
Please post anything about the 2.2 update in the already opened thread.

I am aware of Cognition 4 and Torch but I did not see them mention that they are using the latest firmware as base.
Also, how did they build a ROM on the new firmware 2 days ago (when cognition 4 came out) when the firmware was only released today? I never even saw a leak for the newest samsung firmware.
I wish there is a 'No Thank You' button that decrement the Thank You points to negative.

Here's a link for how the recovery which you will need once you root the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076967&highlight=root . At the beginning of the paragraph, there's a link for "One Click Root".. just follow the instructions, it's pretty simple.
As for EB13, no she does not have it.. her phone is running on EC05 as shown in "Build- FROYO.EC05" which is just a version of Froyo (android 2.2) as is EB13..
Were you going to install a ROM on the phone once it's rooted or..? and if so, do you need to know how to flash the ROMs?
**and for future reference, you might want to try to search the forum.. there are wikis that would have told you what EB13 and EC05 are, and the link for rooting the phone was actually the first result when you search "root" haha.
Just figured I would warn you because some people on here get pretty pissed off when someone posts a new thread about something that they just yelled at 10,000 other people for

and this link roots and installs a recovery?
again thanks sorry for dumb questions
ok, for starters, ec05 is the sprint distributed rom version, as would be eb13, or eh17 or any other 2letter2number codes on the epic forums. i'd stay on ec05, it seems to be the most stable rom/modem combination. you can flash most any rom (including the eh17 leak) from the ec05 rom, and you'll suffer less reboots or problems (unless otherwise stated by the rom developer) as long as you wipe properly. as you seem to be familiar with rooting, remember to make nandroids at any important step. as far as roms, i like the simply aosp and the cm7, but they have no touchwiz or sprint bloatware. if you like that, try srf.
finally, please be respectful of the forum rules and post in the proper place. this should be in q&a
edit: the 'E' stands for the year, 2011, and the 'C' stands for the month, march. this rom was released in march of this year. EC05 was the last official release, and was froyo. anything after EC (ED, EG, EH) are all gingerbread leaks that are less reliable.

EH17 is the lastest Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" leak for the Epic, besides the Froyo ROMs its the most stable.
Yes this will auto root and install recovery. To boot into recovery hold down Power, Camera, volume down.
After you flash the first link I posted, boot up shut down and go back into recovery and flash the second link. after that you should be good to go.
ANd it's cool man but like they said, post in Q and A, no one minds helping though.
**Personally I prefer the Gingerbread leaks over Froyo due to the speed.**

Its been available for I think over 2 months now. ATT just sucks. But yes, there is an official GB update but that update has been on the forums as an unofficial release (KK4) for a long while. I highly recommend the update and then I recommend immedaitely flashing a custom rom as the stock update isnt much of an improvement upon 2.2 Froyo.

Yep. Have it rooted with corn kernel and its smooth and fast enough for me.

The "official" upgrade is the KK4 build that leaked about 3 months ago. They're exactly the same. So if you've tried the stock KK4 or any KK4-based custom ROM then you've experienced it.
I'm running a KK4-based ROM. It's reasonably stable; however, it's much smoother and (for me) more stable if you flash the most recent Corn kernel (7.06) on top of it.

It's not that I didn't search (in fact I already discovered the thread you linked to), it's that we're looking for a one-click method rather than using odin. Are there any solutions for the problems we're having with Super One Click? Or perhaps another one-click solution that we're not familiar with?
There are two threads in this forum just below this one that provide all the info and files you need. Take a look. Worked for me ( and thanks to OPs for that). Flash gb, then a kernel that gives you root. I tried a few, like corn 7x best. Were not any one clicks out there for gb root a month ago, may not be yet.

There are no one click methods that I know of. You really should learn to use Odin. Its not hard at all and opens alot of doors as to what you can do with your phones. I mean, its laid out step by step in that thread. Just follow instructions. I imagine we all can do that.
Thanks for all the info guys. I followed the instructions from the link below and everything went smoothly. Thanks again for all the input.

I don't want to install a custom ROM. I just want the OEM Gingerbread, which I'll root and debloat myself.
But I'm unfamiliar with the Infuse GB ROM's.
Which is the most recent available for Odin?
The UCKE3 GTG or the UCKD5 or something else?
Also, if the phone (used) has Froyo on it right now, is it okay to odin straight to Gingerbread or will I need to flash a kernel or radio first?
Btw, here are two of the ODIN's I'm thinking of:

Both of those are Froyo ROMs. The latest Gingerbread ROM is UCLB3.

Thanks, PVD04 that was exactly the info I was looking for!

Okay I found out that Samsung released Gingerbread. It's old news to you guys but when I had my own Infuse last year, it hadn't been released yet. I assumed it never would be either.
So this link shows how to update to Gingerbread via stock Samsung kies.

It should probably be added to the super thread. I PM'd the OP about it.
