Software question. - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So I have 2.2.1 and I was wondering is it possible just to update it to 2.3.2 without downloading a rom or rooting it? I like it the way it is. And is there also a way to recover the Inception file??

Updating to different versions of android IS updating your rom.

Updating gingerbread question

Ok so I've hears they finally released the official gingerbread for the g2x and ive tried to do a little reading but I'm still confused. Do I need to wipe my current rom flash stock and do the update in order to get the new baseband and good stuff to get things like the fixed GPS lock? Or can I just flash a new rom like the weapon rom that's supposedly 2.3 based?

Just make sure you have ClockworkMod Recovery installed... and be sure to wipe everything before you install... Also, fix permissions after it's installed.
Ok so I don't need to upgrade to stilick gingerbread? And I'm sorry but what do you mean by permissions? Thanks alot

No, not unless you want the new baseband because I've yet to see a easy to apply it without the update. Could be wrong. And that's for you to decide, but the the baseband improved signal and gps response on my phone.

[Q] Using LG's official gingerbread update

Hello,
I am currently dusting my old LG Phoenix off for my girlfriend as her blackberry just died. My LG phoenix is rooted using the gingerbreak.apk however, it is still using Froyo.
I would like to update this to 2.3 for her and was wondering if I can just plug my phone in and run the 2.3 gingerbread upgrade tool from LG. Is this possible? Would the phone retain the root?
Thanks,
P.S. I tried looking around on the forums however, I am using a computer at work so I might have overlooked something.
It should if you download and install OTA Rootkeeper from the store. Once installed backup root then upgrade and reinstall OTA and restore.
