[Q] 4g bluetooth from Bionic? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, I am curious if someone might be able to answer and maybe solve my bluetooth tether in 4g.
My xoom is currently on Moray 2.2.1..It is a verizon 3g(no data plan).I was connecting bluetooth through my moto droid x for months. Well, got a Bionic the other day and when I tested to see if the bionic would share date thru bluetooth it worked...I was happy. Well, I tried to connect today out of my area and it wouldn't connect for the live of me...when I got back home and tried it again it worked. Thats when it hit me. My xoom isn't connect to my bluetoothed data while in town cause it was in a 4g area...as soon as it goes 3g it connects...
okay, so enough with the long story..here's the question:
When paired and connected between xoom and bionic, does the xoom literally use the 3g signal through the radiol? Or is it just connecting through software?
And if It is software, can I flash the lte radio software image from the HLK75 build that has been posted?
I wasn't planning on getting the 4g radio hardware upgrade, but if it uses the radio, looks like i'll have to..
Thanks in advanced.

Extreme Wifi Issues

Ok I'm having a very annoying issue on my Inspire 4G. The phone recognizes my home wifi network and goes in a loop trying to connect and then reconnect. I have several other devices connecting to the wifi flawlessly - (iMac, iPad, Xbox, etc). Does the Inspire just get weak wifi signal strength, or is there something wrong with my phone? I'm considering returning it to get the Atrix. I also know other people have commented saying that they have this issue also. Is there a fix? Thanks

Had this problem. Went into wifi settings and clicked on the access point that it was trying to connect to. It asked me for my credential storage password or something (different than access point password) and after typing that in all has been well ever since.
i got the same problem.. connected to network but it wont let me use internet at all

Check your battery cover and sim card cover. Make sure that they are both installed properly with no gaps.
If you downgraded you phone using attn1 guide thats well known problem. I had same problem i flashed rom coredroid 6.8 and all is fine now.

[Q] iPhone tether to Xoom Wifi

I know this topic seems similar to some. But it's not exactly the same.
I am trying to use my iPhone to tether to the new Xoom WIFI model. My tethering app used in iPhone is MyWi
I read the forum and found that Xoom WIFI doesn't support Adhoc. This is probably the reason why I cannot do the internet tethering.
Does anyone know how you can use iPhone to do the internet tethering to Xoom WIFI?
Will this Adhoc problem be solved by our developers here? If so, I could probably wait.
If I cannot find a solution, I have to return this device. I tried Xoom 3G, it supports Adhoc. This is just a bad move from Motorola to disable the Adhoc support on the Wifi model.
Not sure with the iPhone. I can tether from my atrix to the wifi Xoom, but I have the tethering plan.
The 3g xoom does not support adhoc either, you are somehow misinformed.
I am 100% sure that it can be enabled however.

At the moment, the Xoom does not support connection to an ad-hoc network. However, it can be tethered via bluetooth, so if your iPhone can do bluetooth tethering, you should be able to connect.
There has been some discussion of enabling the ad-hoc capability in the development forum, if I recall (it is capable, but either locked or not yet implemented or something), so you may want to check there for any updates.
Im using MyFi in Bluetooth mode and it works great with the Xoom.
You just need to pair the two, like any Bluetooth device and then in MyWi enable bluetooth, then on the xoom under blutooth click the wrench next to the iphone and select tether - Thats it.

Thank you. I tried. It will paired but it won't connect. When I hit the tethering in Xoom.. it will say tethered and then lose connection again. Any idea?
Thanks again
Here's the thread on tethering the iPhone to the Xoom 3G. I followed it and it works flawlessly. I use TetherMe on the iPhone and have no problems. I can even connect the phone to the car stereo (as handsfree) AND use the internet on the Xoom simultaneously. FYI - I have NOT activated 3G with Verizon.
Hope that helps!

Thank you. I finally get it to work using Bluetooth tethering. I used Tetherme from Cydia. The connection speed is slow though (AT&T), I will do more test to see if it is caused by the bluetooth connection.
Thank you all for the valuable inputs.
No problem! We're all in the same boat here. And there's always the "thanks" button

Just noticed that. I clicked all the Thanks button. Good luck ^^
something weird, I have a factory unlocked iphone 4 (with no jailbreak) and I bought a xoom wifi expecting to have trouble pairing to the iphone 4 hotspot based on this thread.
I was testing trying to pair them via bluetooth with the original iphone 4 hotspot option before trying the jailbreak programs bluetooth method. As I was testing this I noticed my xoom displayed my iphone 4 wifi hotspot network name in the wifi networks, so my xoom sees my iphone 4 wifi hotspot and is able to connect to it, i don´t know why but it does.
So maybe my iphone 4 model MC605ZP is not using ad-hoc or my xoom is seeing an ad-hoc network....all i know is a I´m very happy!!
Edit: It seems IOs 4.3 hotspot is in fact Infrastructure so is not that weird lol...
Thanks for the help mate. I can't find the 'thank you' button, I'm posting this reply instead.
Success without Jailbreaking on 3GS
Just got my Xoom from Telstra, took SIM and put into my iPhone 3GS and wanted to tether the iphone to the Xoom.
I was wholly expecting to have to jailbreak as per previous posts, but it worked great out of the box.
Step 1. Put Xoom into Airplane mode
Step 2. Turn on Bluetooth in Xoom
Step 3. Turn on Hotspot on iPhone
Step 4. Pair iphone with Xoom using Bluetooth. It should say paired and not connected ( once off activity - should stick )
Step 5. On Xoom, press spanner icon on the iPhone connection and select Internet Access
Step 6. Browse away
Each time you switch Hotspot on iPhone On you need to manually reconnect to Internet on Bluetooth settings in Xoom. Bit of a pain but minimal.
Interestingly, I can turn on WiFi also while in Airplane mode.......you can't use a Xoom for phone based calls so intrigues me what this mode actually does appart from being a single switch for turning BT and WIFI off together.
Xoom is running Android 3.1
iPhone is running iOS 4.3.5
No other stuff loaded on either device that would assist this in any way.

4G Problem

I'm having a problem where my phone will not connect to 4G, it connected fine for about 2 weeks and then it stopped working. I have tried everything I can think of, restores, data wipes, new roms, the new radio, messing with modem settings, but I have had no luck, I'm starting to think that it is just my Thunderbolt and I will have to get a replacement I took this screenshot of the thing i think is werid, the phone recognizes the LTE network but GPRS service is disconnected. If anybody has any suggestions on something for me to try it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Flash the new radio that was made available today and see if that changes it. If not factory reset your phone and bring it in and say it stopped working.

I been have problems with 4G since Saturday here in San Diego. It has been working fine for 3 weeks up to this point. I have 3-4 bars of 4G, but there's no network connection. The connection does NOT bounce between 3G/1X. It is solid 4G, however on the 4G LTE icon at the top, only the white arrow lights up, never the down arrow. When I run the ping test in the diag screen you posted there, it fails.
I went down to the Verizon store near my house and they had two display Thunderbolts. One of them was having the same exact problem as mine. While I was there, I rebooted mine and it magically started working right.
Then about a hour ago, it stopped working again. Rebooted twice and nothing. Called Verizon tech support just to let them know there might be an issue since my phone and the display phone werent working right. They transferred me to a
"4G specialist" who had me shutdown the phone while he "rebuilt" my account in their system. Booted back up and it works again.. Dont know if something he did fixed it, or the third reboot fixed it.
BTW, my phone is factory stock. Have it set to LTE/CDMA Auto in th phone settings.
Sigh... it's doing it again this morning
Same here, stuck using 3G until further notice.

My 4g and 3g have been on the outs today here in ohio. Never had the issue before today. I'm assuming its a network issue and not an issue with my phone. And I have the new radio fyi.

-89 dB is pretty weak. -89 to -93 is what mine is at most places in my house. The only way it will go from 3G to 4G is if I walk over to the bedroom window facing the nearest celltower and then it will go to about -78 and switch to 4G.
When facing the tower do not "cup" the phone because I have seen as much as 10dB loss from my hand being between the phone and the tower.

I can say the same thing in Phoenix.... you have good 4g days and you have bad 4g days. Like yesterday... up then down then up then down then nothing for an hr.... then up and down... an awesome way to tank the battery.
I wish Big Red would make up their minds... and fix these issues.
Same here in scottsdale, shows the 4g icon but there is no data till it switches back to 3g. Maybe just a coincidence but mine started yesterday after upgrading to the new radio and bamf 1.5

I'm having the same exact problem you are having in NYC and now in Boston while I am on vacation. If I force the phone to 3G, everything works beautifully, but to get 4G working again, I have to power off and on the phone.
Now, while in Boston, this issue happens when I am in an area of no cell signal (say the parking garage of my hotel) and then walk into an area with cell signal. I'll wake my phone from standby and will not see the 4G symbol, and then the symbol appears, but no data, like what you described.
I wonder if it has to deal with how the phone connects to the towers. Maybe the new radio will fix it? I'm currently on stock since it's still runs pretty damn well.
Just to mention, my phone does not suffer from the cycling issue between 3G and 4G.
Switched to bamf remix 1.5 with the same updated radio and 4g works great now. Kinda like the remix better.. win win
Did you try taking out your batter and sim card... waiting a minute and then putting them back in? I had this problem once where I was stuck in 3G in a 4G area and this is what tech support had me do. I didn't think it would work, but it did!

One X and AT&T MicroCell

Because I live in the "Shire" and do not get great coverage by AT&T, I got a MicroCell to hopefully fix my lack of reception.
I got it all setup, associated with my accounts, all lights are green on the MicroCell. My cell number is associated with the MicroCell through the AT&T website..
My One X on the other hand will not connect to the MicroCell -- it insists on connecting to the 1 bar of signal strength offered by the AT&T tower.
I've tried forcing the phone into airplane mode, restarting the phone, etc., but it just will not connect to the MicroCell.
Any thoughts on what I might be missing?
I also have a Microcell working with my One X on it consistently. Have you tried going to the Microcell management, uninstalling it and then reinstalling it?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I have a microcell working fine too. Has it ever successfully connected to the microcell, or is it just that it keeps dropping to the outside signal?
Or maybe the outside signal is LTE and the phone is configured to grab LTE first. Sounds like you don't live in an LTE area though.
Thanks for the responses.
No LTE here, just the 4G hspa ..
I did try disconnecting the microcell through the AT&T website, resetting the microcell using a paper clip in te reset hole, then reactivating it on the AT&T site.
Dang phone still won't connect to the microcell. This is using the 1.85 firmware oo.
Think I might have to call AT&T on this one.
Make sure you have the HOX phone number stored correctly in the Micro Cell data base. Do you have any other phones setup with the MC and are they working?
ATT MC support is quite good, I have used them before so they should be able to help you out.

Pretty sure I have the phone number setup correctly in the MC -- it is the only device that will be using the MC, so I unfortunately don't have any others to try out.
I put in a call to support, just waiting to hear back from them. I'm wondering if it could have something to do with the 1.85 firmware?
Nah, the MC is just like an ATT tower. If your phone works right now on ATT then the MC should work too, nothing to do with the FW of the phone.
Did you reboot the One X?

Definitely rebooted the One X, even left it powered off overnight with the MC left on thinking it might just need activation time.. Still no dice.
Ok to make sure you did all of this.
1. Set up MC on your ATT account
2. Added your HOX phone number to the MC account and saved it.
3. All Green lights are on on the MC
4. The HOX can make and receive calls on ATT where you are.
5. Rebooted the phone and MC
If you did all of this then your MC is DOA IMO.
I also have a MC, and have had no problems with it.
Sounds like you need to work with AT&T on this, since it seems like the problem is with the MC itself.
I also have a new HOX and an Mcell
It used to work find with my 3GS, reported as 3G signal.
AT&T coverage had improved, so I've had it disconnected for some time.
Just for grins, I fired it back up, to see how well the HOX worked with it, as well as see if it supported HSPA.
Well, not only did I NOT get an HSPA connection, I didnt even get 3G. I got an EDGE connection..
Anyone else get better? I've pulled the plug on it, since I get better service from the full towers.
I had an issue with my microcell after my ISP made some network upgrades. Unplugging the microcell completely and rebooting it fixed the issue. All the lights were green on my microcell as well.
I've also found that you need to reboot the thing occasionally. Since it works off your broadband connection, it's sensitive to hiccups from your ISP/modem.
One does not simply set up a micro cell in the shire
Sent from my magical box
Chances are you need to exchange the MC, it is likely faulty.
I've had a MicroCell in my apartment for over a year now and it's always been spotty. I live in Manhattan by the Williamsburg Bridge and it frequently connects to the AT&T tower on the Brooklyn side of the East River. If I'm standing right next to it might connect but I've never been impressed by it's performance.
My microcell worked with my att HOX fine until today. I rooted, unlocked and flashed clean4.5 rom and it no longer connects to the microcell. The exact same thing happened with my old samsung infuse 4g, custom roms often dont work with Microcell. i believe it has something to do with basebands offered by the microcell but im no expert

I too have lost microcell access right after flashing a new CM 10.1 rom. My second HTC One X (CM 10.0) is working happily on the microcell as mine did pre-flash. I enabled the Microcell while both phones were at CM 10.0. I'm wondering if something was written in one direction or the other between the phone and ATT that signed an identity or something.
APN file perhaps?
I don't know enough about how this works to diagnose.

I flash different ROMs all the time, including the latest CM10.1 and have had no problems with my micro cell and my HOX. I have yet to have any problems with things working but I would reconmend just power down your modem, router, and micro cell for 5 min then power them all back up and wait a few minutes to see if that fixes anything. maybe try another reboot with your phone after restarting your other hardware

[Q] Wifi to LTE handoff problem (Rogers)

When I leave a wifi network (physically), instead of the phone recognizing that it's no longer got a wifi connection and flipping to LTE, it thinks it's still on a wifi network.
The only way for me to get my connection back is to temporarily toggle wifi off. Both Wifi and LTE seem to work fine otherwise.
Anyone else experience this?
Very common bug. Hoping an ota comes out soon.

Appologies, my searches didn't turn anything up somehow. Need to take Google 101 again, I suppose.
Good to know I'm not alone with this bug.
