new Mytouch 4g slide/hate sense/help - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I ended up with a 4g slide as a replacement for a lg g2x that I kept having to return due to various issues with rebooting, screen bleed etc. I like the phone, but cant stand sense, and Im new to the whole rooting/flashing process. Is there anyway to erase sense and have just stock Gingerbread on this phone, while retaining the camera capabilities? I know usually there are posts already dealing with these issues, however Im not able to find much for this particular model phone. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
Noob
BP

True stock Gingerbread has not yet been ported, since HTC has not released the kernel source yet. But there are a couple of de-Sensed stock ROMs in the dev. section, one by undeadk9 and one by computerkid123. Those are basically the Sense ROM that came with the phone, but with as much of the Sense removed as they possibly could, lol.

Thank you Yogi2010....

My senseless has the look and feel of aosp but still keeping the best sense aspects like the awesome camera.

General rooting concern

So I am a new switcher here. Just switched from Iphone 4 to Android and from Mac OSX to Linux almost full time . I am definately loving open source lol. Now for a couple concerns. I want to root the Inspire and install a custom rom to unlock the upload HSUPA that's crippled by default as well as do a couple other things. Not sure what all I can do yet but I know JailBreaking my Iphone made it like owning a whole new device!
My big concern is with Sense. What will I lose if I swtich to a ROM that does not use sense for the UI? I am not exactly sure what the Sense UI really provides being new to Android and all but I can tell you I love my Widgets that came with my phone and I love the interface in general. Can the sense UI be installed with any rom?
Other concern that I still need to research more is it seems that alot of people are just using a Dersire ROM and having audio issues. Is this easily fixed? And Last but not least...any chance of getting Android 2.3 GingerBread on here?H Have not had a chance to see if there is a 2.3 rom with the sense UI yet really as I have had the phone like one day lol
all you need is root to enable hsupa you do not need a custom rom but if you like you current stock ui stick with sense i am currently running coredroid gingerbread rom with sense and i love i have tried others without sense and i just did not like it but its all about personal preference
Some custom roms comes with sense and some don't. If you pick a Rom without sense, you will loose all of the HTC widgets that are included with sense. The latest version of the Rom coredroid is gingerbread. Browse the inspire 4g development section to start finding out all the different roms and what they offer. Definitely do your due diligence of research before you get your hands dirty.
Here are two proven methods to rooting...

Disappointed with my friends Sensation

Hello guys.
As the topic states, I'm trying to help my friend get the best user experience with the Sensation.
I myself, use a Galaxy S II, and have been using this + Galaxy S I for like 10 months now.
But this guy came to me to show off his brand new Sensation - I tried it - and I thought it TOTALLY sucked!? The UI is really slow and sluggish, not much different from a HTC Hero lol (ok well not that bad, but compared to my CM7nized Galaxy, it looks like a failed toy)
I was really disappointed for him, and I promised I'd find him the best ROM/kernel combination out there.
I thought it was a simply matter of bloatware and bad optimization at HTC's part. So I flashed LeeDroid onto his device, it got a bit better, but animations aren't as fluent as I'd like them. I can even discern the frames per second by eye.. (almost)
Is overclocking the only answer? I saw some kernels which support 1.89GHz, but since I have no knowledge of HTC, I wouldn't dare try.
Questions:
*What's the fastest ROM out there?
*What's making the Sensation so slow compared to Galaxy S II and iPhone 4? You'd think a dual core would run any version of Android easily.
*Do I have to overclock to make the Sensation lag-free?
*Why are there no AOSP roms yet? Is there something preventing this?
*Is his device maybe faulty?
I appreciate your answers.
And please, I didn't come here to troll or flame. Just trying to help my friend, so lets keep it civilized and no Android Phone-rivalry hate

Keep well in mind that YOUR phone has been out MUCH MUCH longer than our Sensations. Also, we JUST got S-OFF recently which leaves very little time to have been developing.
Also, from what I understand, android is not utilizing the sensations dual cores properly, yet. That, along with Sense 3.0, and the lack of hardware acceleration all come together for a less than wow effect. However, with ADW EX (paid) my phone is faster than I can discern. That, and the fact that I froze Sense along with a lot of other stuff with Titanium after I rooted.
Give it time, you will see the Sensation really begin to fly. CM7 is due any day now for us as well...After thats all taken care of, have a look at the sharp look of the Sensation! Its got the looks on the outside right now, and soon someone will give it the looks it can have on the inside. HTC rushed this phone and designed it to appeal to the masses.
Id bet that the phone with ADW EX and Sense 3.0 frozen would look as fast as yours. It may not hang in there, yet, with the benchmarks but your daily use would likely seem to be just as fast. Oh and that is with my stock ROM and no overclock.
Matt
I purchased an SGII and was really impressed with the camera.....
and that was all.....
Sold it on ebay 2 days after purchase!
Cheap plastic.....
And if it's that good, why put CM7 on it? It shouldn't need improving should it?
using stock kernel + rom i have 0 lag and phone is amazing...
just used adb method to pause all applications not being used/bloatware
but you could also just delete unused apks with root explorer or whatever you may have since ur already s-off with root
(suggest backing up if you have any problems u can restore apk :| )

'Cause it's been a while since I ran Cyanogenmod, and I wanted to try the latest nightly.
Normally, I use VillainROM which is based on Samsungs sources, but with bloatware removed and deodex/zipaligned apks which is almost just as fast.
Thanks though, I'll forward your tips on freezing all Sense apks and run ADW Launcher EX instead (incidently, this is the launcher I use on my own phone and yes, i love it too.)
But no ROM or Kernel recommendations? Aww, I went through all this S-Off crap for nothing?
Give a dog a bone
Try any 2.3.4 ROM (I'm using InsertCoin). The phone will be much faster

Titanium Backup Pro. I'm not sure what all exactly you need to freeze, but I'm sure anything with "Sense" in it you'd want to freeze.

Try Android Revolution HD 2.1.0, I just flashed this last night. Really impressed. Loads faster and still using the stock kernel for 2.3.4
Custom kernel's are on there way for this rom too which should make it fly.
Btw, does your friend have/had the newest 2.3.4 OTA? It improves speed as well
Swyped from my HTC Sensation
2.3.4 version of the custom rom i am using has definitely made a big speed improvement over 2.3.3
He is on LeeDroid rom now, I believe its 2.3.4 based! Right??
yeah it is based on 2.3.4
lol, yet another Galaxy troller
PLEASEEEE use the P3D Neon V4 ROM and use the kernel it comes with. Honestly, it's the best ROM I have used on the Sensation. Flash that, look at the UI and it'll make you wish you could have Sense 3.0 on your GalaxyS2. Make sure you also flash the 4.1 update on top!
It's smooth, has good battery life, and has a sexy theme with a lot of eye-candy that doesn't slow the phone down. If you don't believe me, please flash it and report back with what your friend says. Don't report back with what you thought of it, just what he thought because I don't wanna read a biased post lol.
Also, when we finally get CM7, the speed will be on-par with any other dualcore device.

Is HTC/ATT still developing for the Inspire?

I'm new to the inspire (just switched from Sprint and the Epic 4g) and was wondering if HTC/ATT was still doing development for the inspire or not? Can we expect any updates to the current version or are they pretty much done?
I know on the Epic they were still pushing ROM's occasionally.
Just wondering what the future might hold or if we are stuck with what we have (other then custom ROM's).
Thanks.

History would suggest that we've gotten everything we will get from ATT. HTC may continue to develop for the Ace, but it will most likely only be released for the DHD. (Desire HD)

if AT&T is still selling this phone in 18 months then yes, per the alliance they made with Google, the Inspire will get Ice Cream Sandwich. At the Last Google I/O At&T was among the companies agreeing to this improved situation, vowing to bring their phones current.

Yeah, I've been trying to find a custom that I like but so far it seems that they all have small "quirks" of some kind or another. Believe it or not my stock is running very very good so I'm reluctant to change.
Was just curious if they would release another base ROM for the inspire. It appears everything new is based from other phones.
Thanks for the info.

That is the norm with US based phones. They get maybe one release from the carrier and the rest are ports from the euro version of the phone as they are supported longer. We have seen the only update from att that we are going to get.

No, there's nothing stock about the rom itself. But it does have a clean stock feel to it. That and it's the most stable I've tried for daily driver use.

Actually it wasn't about look and feel but performance. Right now my stock (rooted) is running really well believe it or not. Great battery life, great signal, good GPS etc. It seems that most custom ROMs I looked into (based off different phone base) had issues of some sort that people were complaining about. Battery, FC's, GPS etc.
In all honesty I don't really like Sense so I would'nt mind a ROM that didn't have it. Some things I like are, ASOP lockscreen, Battery percent in notification bar, Launcher othere than sense.
Right now I'm using a battery widget and widget locker to change my lock screen. Also using Zeam launcher insted of Sense.

You piqued my interest, actually it was Zel. I started thinking about what is out there, actively being developed, based on US Inspire roms. I took a look over in the Dev section and all I could come up with is ClearDroid.
I think you can still get roms from Pirate based on the ATT gingerbread release and Juicy's TELUS DHD is supposed to be the same hardware as the Inspire, but his ROM is based on the TELUS release.
I have used ClearDroid gingerbread. It's a great ROM and ClearD and his team tenaciously develop and support. It's a little vanilla, compared to some DHD or port based roms, but is better than the ATT approved ROM in every way. It is faster, more stable, prettier and better supported. I always go back to it when I've had my fill of the eye candy. I won't tell you it's the best ROM out there, everyone has different tastes, and we've got great devs doing amazing things with other bases, but you may want to try it before completely writing off custom roms.
It's just my opinion, and worth about as much as that old Pentium 2 in my closet, but i'm throwing it out there anyway.

That's the beautiful thing about Android and this site. You can try a variety of different flavors and combinations and always go back to where you started. You'll never know if you like something or not if you don't try it. Just do a nandroid and test the waters.
The Sense 3 DHD leak is pretty nice and would be a great upgrade for the Inspire but, alas, we'll probably never see an actual Inspire based on this build because AT&T has the final say. AT&T is dragging HTC down like an anchor tied to a sack full of toasters.

What's so different about this phone

I haven't seem any vanilla android roms for this phone so what's wrong with it? I planned on getting one but not so sure anymore.

It's not a single problem with this device , but the stock OS Froyo came out in 2008 so it's pretty old , but samsung modified it to the way they want it , don't get me wrong there's no vanilla device's but there are modified froyo device's that are great , we don't have gingerbread yet .
So why is it so hard to port a gingerbread Tom? I'm not a developer or anything just wondering
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Porting Gingerbread is difficult because that would require rewriting all of the specially designed drivers for the sidekick for the GB kernel.
Vanilla ports are difficult because they rely on a stock styled framework, which due to the way the drivers were written, is very different on the sidekick.
you would have to rewrite alot of thing's including driver's that's why where using froyo .
Oh ok...so even vanilla froyo isn't gonna happen?

I'm working on CM6, my hangup is with the camera/camcorder driver system, the way they defined camera parts is very bizarre. AOSP froyo/CM6 are on-again-off-again projects for me, they will just require more work than other phones have in the past (or maybe I'm just not experienced in CM, who knows).
Hmm interesting. Well thanks for the replies guys. I think I'm just gonna get the g2. Even though I love you guys for your work I feel like the g2 is gonna have a lot more options especially with ics. Again thanks.

Why would they code this phone differently than the other Galaxy S series phones? Is it the keyboard? I'm beginning to wonder if Samsung knew what they were doing when they built this phone...it's TM's last of the 4G Galaxy phones to be upgraded to GB, and when I lurk the TM forums it's just nothing but negativity towards it. I'm glad I root/ROM. It saved me from the massive fit I would have thrown at Magenta.
And while I'm here, vick, how's the SGS4G code looking? Is it as "close" to the SK as you thought it was?
Well yes and no, the sgs4g has the same processor, so that portion of the kernel was done for me, but the screen driver wasn't yet built for GB, and would require significant tweaking. I have been working on finals around here for classes, hopefully I'll find some time shortly to continue working on it.

Q: Closest Stock 3.0/3.5?

Hello everyone, I was searching all through the dev section to like 2 years ago and thought it'd be easier just to ask. I'm looking for a Sense rom, 3.0 or above. It can have some issues, like no 4G or bluetooth doesn't bother me, I'm looking for close to stock, if it has CRT/edge glow/tweaks that's perfectly fine, I just keep finding roms that have like extreme changes, can you guys point out the closest things you know of? Please and thank youu
Sent from my PG06100 using xda app-developers app
newRUNNY (by dread7us) and Infamous (by dropzero) are both sense 3.5 roms
Sent from my PG06100
Supreme Sense is a hybrid 2.1, 3.0 and has all the bells and whistles you're looking for including 4G.
Thanks for the info, I'll check those out, by the way I pray every day you guys can get that Sense 4 rom working, I believe in you you can do it!
I forgot to mention StockMod. Its probably the closest to stock you can get without going stock. It has a custom kernel great battery life and it looks great.
There is also a port of Stock Sense 3.0 by Team Nocturnal, but you may have to search for the right link, things got messed up when they redid their website
