Need stock recovery image for Coby 7022 build 20120106

I need a stock recovery image for the Coby Kyros 7022 build 20120106 (previous builds will not work). I tried to flash clockworkmod recovery on my tablet without making a backup of the stock image, only to find that cwm recovery doesn't work with the new build of my tablet. Can anyone give me a stock recovery image for this tablet? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I ended up with no recovery after trying to install clockwork. Recovery didn't work (it bypassed recovery when using the proper keys) and I had no good backup. Flashing older firmware in the 11 2011 timeframe led to boot loops. I've not been able to find a stock Coby 7022 firmware from 20120106. However, I did find another post here regarding a different tablet using the same tcc8803 chipset with the same build date. dub dub dub dxtremeDOTcom.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=15 (remove spaces insert correct www etc...) So I gave it a try. I'm actually able to get the 7022 booted using this firmware and system but the touchscreen is not working, so I'm guessing that driver is not exactly correct.
Completely a noob but wanting to learn. BTW I did not use the FWTool as I read posts this kills the TS
So my ask is, does anyone know of a way to get the drivers for the 7022 build dated 20120106?

This restore didn't work on my system. The 7022 from 20120106 seems to be a rare animal and little info on it yet.

Same problem here, I tried to flash a previous CWM/Stock Recovery and nothing... just bootloop when I try to enter recovery mode. So, does anyone have the stock recovery for the 20120106 build yet? Thank you in advance for the one who can help

After reading a bit, it seems what we need are two files that could be copied off a working stock machine of the proper build date or later. In our case on or after 20120106. The problem for me seems to be the lk.rom file. The ROM I used for the DExtreme pad boots but no touch screen function due to the DExtreme being a 5 touch capacitance screen and the Kyros 7022 being but 2.
There may be other problems with the DExtreme files like the camera being different or even the network adapter but no way of telling without the stock boot file. Anyway, I've resigned myself. My 7022 is a paper weight until I find the stock files.
If anyone comes across this looking to root and clockwork mod your 7022 and it's build date is on or after Jan 6 2012, please stop and use ADB to pull a copy of your stock OS off it first. Not only will you be able to help us out, but you'll be able to restore when things go horribly wrong.

Well, I'm expecting another 7022 to arrive next week (kind of a late Mother's day gift), I assume it will be same build, so, I'll try to pull a copy of that unit and see if I can restore it on te semi-dead one. I will post again when it arrives to tell if it worked (or if I have two bricks xD). If it works, I'll upload a copy.

Neh, It's an international shipment and got delayed. I was supposed to receive it today, but now I'll have to wait 'til monday or tuesday. I'll post when I get them to tell if it worked.
Edit: what I could do was root it. It was quite easy using SuperOneClick, but still no recovery...

So, for now, we are pretty much screwed :/

I just got a 7022 that has a build date of 20120106. I am new to android so I have no idea what I am doing but if someone gives me step by step instructions I can try to get it off the tablet for you. Good thing I found this forum, I was about to try and root it.

1) You need to install the Android SDK, instructions can be found HERE, but basically you need to:
-) Download the .exe and install it
-) Locate the folder where you installed it and run as administrator “SDK Manager.exe”
-) Check (if unchecked) the boxes for SDK Tools, SDK Platform Tools and Google USB Driver Package. You can check any others if you want, but for now, you only need those.
2) You (may) need the specific drivers for the device. You can use the Motorola drivers, which work very nice with the Cobys, you can install the drivers from HERE. Just download and install.
3) You need to root your device, for that, I recommend using SuperOneClick, which can be found HERE. Too root your device:
-) Make sure you have “USB Debugging mode” activated. In your tablet, go to settings -> Applications -> Development and check (if unchecked) the USB Debugging mode.
-) Connect your device to your PC, if it’s the first time you connect it, you need to wait a little while the drivers get configured.
-) When your device is connected and correctly configured, run SuperOneClick as administrator, and click on “Root”. Now wait a little while it gets rooted.
4) Last step, backup recovery image. For this, you’ll need a terminal emulator. You can download “Android Terminal Emulator” from 1mobile.com or any other app market. To do the backup:
-) Open the terminal emulator on your tablet.
-) Request SuperUser Permissions, to do this, write

-) Now, a file named “recovery.img” should be automatically created on your /sdcard folder. THAT, my friend, is the file we so desperately need to revive our tablets, now zip it and uploaded to any server. (Please )
Now that you are rooted, you can do things such as installing the Google apps. There are a lot of tutorials over the internet, but, let me know if you have any trouble so I can help you
WARNING: Don’t, I repeat DON’T try to install ClockWorkMod using ANY of the tutorials found over the internet. Those tutorials work ONLY for builds previous to 20110106, and if you try to do it on your device, you are going to semi-brick it (just like we did xD).

I just got it as a replacement under warranty today and have not done anything to it. I am busy studying for finals now but when I get a chance(prob friday morning) I will follow the steps and upload the recovery.img file

This might be a stupid question but bear with me, I don't know anything about this. Does personal info get stored on the recovery.ing file? Should I remove apps like the amazon app store or other ones that I have to log in with?

For the recovery, no. You just need to reflash the stock recovery using fastboot. Let's see if this works...

Negative, the recovery.img file contains only information about the recovery partition, which is used mostly to restor the tablet to factory defaults

to reflash it, you just need to enter fastboot mode in your tablet (power + vol down), copy the recovery.img file to your platform-tools directory on your android sdk folder and from there on a cmd:

and that's it, you have your recovery back on your 7022!!

Man, is there a possibility you could upload a backup of the boot.img too? the procedure is the same, just changing the dd command to:

[Q] Safe, Simple Ubuntu/Android dualboot with (SL101) Slider?

I'm interested in dualbooting my SL101 slider with Ubuntu. I currently have a semi-stock ICS installed (9.2.1.17) and rooted. Naturally, this is an sbk2 device.
I have a big microSD card and I have seen instructions on dualbooting from microSD, (here, post #3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1537566) but I have some questions:
1) My ideal would be to flash Ubuntu to the microSD card and leave my ICS installation untouched on the internal memory. I would like to just change which partition the device tries to boot from. Is this possible?
1b) It looks like the instructions referenced above flash "ubuntu-sdcard.zip" over my ICS installation and then require me to reflash ICS each time that I want to switch OSes. Is there any way to avoid this?
1c) If I need to reflash the rom every time, I would like to use the one that I am currently running, post OTA modifications. I tried using "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 of=ics.img", copying the ics.img to my desktop, using "blobpack blob LNX ics.img" and inserting the blob file that resulted into an existing ASUS kernel update zipfile. This didn't work; CWM recovery 5.8.3.4 gives the error "installation aborted" every time I try to install this file. (I have turned checksum verification off.)
1d) Is there any program that will psuedo-automate switching between operating systems? A one-touch choice of ubuntu or ICS to do the flash and boot automatically?
2) As of July 2012, which are the best ubuntu.img and ubuntu-sdcard.zip to use? What are my choices? Can I update Ubuntu online via normal "Update Manager" methods after installation?

Good, you searched and found the thread! Make sure the microSD is a high class (8 or 10) or else it will be super laggy and IMO not worth it. (If you want lag you can just run Ubuntu or any other linux distro in a chmod format over VNC)

1) The .zip files are just afaik to change which installation you're booting from, so the installations I think are untouched (aside from the kernel)

1b) Not that I know of, this is the safest method of dualboot. You're not actually flashing over your data, just changing the kernel from Android to Ubuntu and Vice-Versa

1c) You don't need to reflash the ROM every time, just the kernel. If you still want help with the dd, see my response to your other thread. (In the future please start only one thread )

1d) Not for Sbkv2 that I know of, one could be made though, but it would require a computer to run. (Basically put the updater-script file and run through adb shell in a .bat file on the computer, the computer replaces CWM, I'd personally just flash the .zips in cwm, it'd take less time than gathering everything up and plugging into the computer)

[Q] Ubuntu SBKv2 & Asus Stock Apps.

First does anyone have a .zip for the Asus stock apps? I had an older copy of the revolver removed apps file and I accidentally deleted it, the one that is currently linked on the revolver ROM shows as corrupted.
Has anyone been able to successfully Dual-boot Ubuntu on sbkv2 devices? What is your current method to doing so?
I tried the modified version of OLiFE with wheelie but ended up in an APX boot loop and had to flash back to stock.
I tried to use my own ROM (revolver) and the net-install version of ubuntu so perhaps I 'injected' them incorrectly.
Could not find much of a guide to do this...
Was interested in trying franks tools because that seems to be the easiest option (My main OS is windows but I have Ubuntu installed on an flash drive)
I tried the method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23428126 but I didnt add or copy the .lib modules and my recovery was internal sd access only (working on updating that)
Plus the whole pseudo dual boot thing seems like a pain in the ass...
Any thoughts on the net install version of ubuntu?
How do you go about flashing or updating Roms when you are dual booting?

The Part where I get confused is the boot image and system image I may have messed up there?
Where do you place/name the net-install img?
Also as far as the rom and kernel go do you have to get that set up and then do a backup and use that or do you still have access to android recovery to flash zips?

Ok paste in the image folder.
its inside he olife folder.
Yeah you have set up roms and kernel.
I dont recommend to go stock, but AR HD. In find its only proper working stock ICS and a working usb.
Further I had some difficulties installing ... Libre if oyu want to use as office.

So install the rom and kernel you want to use, do a backup then copy the system & boot imgs from the backup.
From what i understood you have to rename the net-install img to ubuntu.img? Is that correct?
Yeah definitely planning on using it for word editing etc (for school)
Right now I'm using team EOS nightlys for the rom and the kat kernel.
It's running very well so i might stick with that.

You mean recovery? If you want recovery u need to wait for Franktools SBk2v, but it cause apx bootloop so its removed.
Backup ur data to with recovery or titanium backup.
I recommend to use normal ubuntu ( with GDM) and then install enlightment.
Why i recommend normal ubuntu, becasue it was only working libre office, but you can try something else

So far no luck still isn't working.
Maybe it's the net-installer I'm having issues with I might just try the regular ubuntu.img if franks tools aren't back up soon (I just wanted to try the easier way.)
I tried just installing linux by itself and got some penguins and scripts running but it was in apx boot loop after that.
Had to flash to stock and rebuild.
I think I might wait for kenshin to fix franks tools (which might take a while from the looks of it)

I had error thatkernel was to big ( 9.4 mb) i change some code adn i could flash it.

Well i can send u my olife folder.
It contain the 2.1 gb ubuntu (11.10) and the net installer. Also android system are: AR HD( ICS) with gevour kernel if you dont mind.
It also contin a jhinta kernel which you can flash over it. Flash it with chromeOS ( in update and then advance)
Also i change some size for the kernel.
Kernel size was to big.
All fixed :3.
I will send u the folder as soon as i can ^^.
Few backdraws at the moment with ubuntu:
No flash support anymore by adobe (few alternetives like gapps( to slow and laggy) and lightspark(need to be tested)
Libre has some difficulties installin in gnome classic install of net installer and englightment.
At the moment libre works in ubunu with gdm.
Even linux for tegra installed it seems like it cant see the processor ( currenly in net-installer, it does show in livistie ubuntu.),
Google chrome cant be installed :\ ( no arm packages).
Net-installer can have some frustation on the wifi configuration.

Yes indeed.
If you are skilled, this is quite a neat solution giving you lots of power over the Android device. But since it can be somewhat tricky for the beginner to implement, if only a GNU/Linux environment is needed, and not the control over the Android environment, it is much easier to run the GNU/Linux environment jailed, instead of Android jailed as here.
But this is of course way much cooler.

Successful Root Method for the Pantech Flex P8010

This guide assumes that you are on a stock Pantech Flex P8010 running either ICS (v4.0.4). or the updated JB (v4.1.2) Please note that rooting a ICS phone has been known to cause issues when trying to run the over the air update. If you have already rooted and are looking for a way to update to JellyBean please skip to the section on updating, if this isn't you keep reading.
So at this point you have decided to continue. You shouldn't run into any issues if you follow the directions and you shouldn't mess your phone up even if root doesn't take. However, in the spirit of covering ones back side....
I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong.
Jelly Bean 4.1.2 or ICS 4.0.4
This method was found by LuneBear and has not been tested by myself so I cannot personally verify its effectiveness. I did check and it seems to work with both ICS and JB but your mileage may vary. You will need to download SRSroot and install it on a Windows machine.
SRS ROOT
SRS Homepage
Make sure that USB debugging is enabled on your phone. Connect your phone via USB and run the program. Select the button for all root methods. Then you will need to select the Legolas exploit. Once everything is done (may take some time) just reboot the phone and you should be good to go.
Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 ONLY
Windows Option
This method has been tried on a number of Windows versions and some work some don't so your mileage may very. This method uses Bin4ry's Root method and was orgnially discovered by aaki_rocker and is WAY LESS COMPLICATED. However please note that some users have had issues using this method with Bin4ry's latest version of the root script. It is recommended that you download an older version if you run into any issues or the root doesn't take.
First lets get some drivers on your Windows box. To do this you will need to download the Pantech PC Suite and install it.

Next you will need to download and extract Bin4ry's root script.

Once you have these two files you will need to plug your phone into the PC via USB and enable the USB type as Data Mode.
Next run the Bin4ry's script and follow the directions when in doubt about what to choose select the simplest option in all cases.
If everything goes well you will have a nicely rooted phone.
Linux Option
This is not a point and click root and is not for the faint of heart. This method of rooting is based off of Bin4ry's root for ICS/JB. Changes have been made to the srcipt to allow it to work with the Flex please follow the steps below and you will have root in just a few minutes. It will probably take you longer to download the files you need than to actually root the phone.
This method has been performed successfully using Ubuntu 12.10 64bit it may work with other versions of linux but it will not work with Windows due to the driver issues and the fact that I didn't alter the windows batch file, in fact I removed any windows related files from Bin4ry's original package.
First you will need to set up the linux machine if you don't already have it. This can be done in one of a few ways you can run a live copy using a Live CD/USB boot (this will not install linux on your computer unless you tell it to) or you can install it in the standard manner or using WUBI, the third option us setting up linux in a virtual machine. If you don't know how to do this google it, there is a wealth of information out there on these subjects and probably some you can even understand without a degree in astro-physics.
Second you will need to set your phone up so that USB debug mode is turned on [settings>developer options]. Make sure you phone isnt plugged into the USB or it won't let you change the setting.
Now plug your phone into to the (linux) computer with the USB. Next you will need to set the USB computer connection type to Media Device(MTP)
In order for the computer to communicate with the phone we will need to install Android Debug Bridge (ADB) and create a couple of files.
These files will basically trick the computer into thinking it has actual drivers for the phone.
Open a terminal window, and enter the following (this will install ADB):
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb​
Once this is done enter the following
sudo gedit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-android.rules​
Gedit will open at this point copy the the following into it and then click save and close the window.
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="10a9:6055", MODE="0666"​
In the terminal window enter this (yeah I know it looks the same just go with it)
sudo gedit /lib/udev/rules.d/70-android.rules​
After the window opens paste the same line of code into the file that you did in the previous files, save and close.
Test your connection by issuing the following command in the terminal window:
adb devices​
Should see something similar to:
OSCAR01111112010204 device​
Your adb is now recognizing your phone and you can now move on to the next step if you are not getting this don't even bother moving to the next step it wont work. If you don't see this check your settings and go again.
Ok so you are now ready to actually root the phone. The first thing your going to need to do is download my modified Bin4ry script. See the attached file.
After you have it downloaded you will need to extract it you can do this by opening the file manager (click on the home folder icon) and going to download. Find the file called Root_Flex.zip. Right click on it and select EXTRACT HERE. After its done extracting you should see a directory called Root_Flex. In a terminal windows enter the following:
cd Downloads/Root_Flex​
Your prompt should now look something like
[email protected]_name~/Downloads/Root_Flex$​
From here just enter the command:
bash RunMeFlex.sh​
At this point you should see a bunch of junk come up and a menu asking which way you want to try to root. Type 1 and press enter. It will give you 3 errors, ignore them. It should copy a bunch of files and ask you to press restore on your phone, do it. It should ask you to press Enter to reboot the phone, do so and the phone will reboot. It should be waiting on you to press enter again dont press enter until the phone is completely rebooted and for good measure give it an extra few seconds. The script should finish and the phone will reboot again this time you should see a little box with an update appear on the phone. At this point you should be rooted. If not try the script again.
I hope this helps out a lot of folks out there. Let me know if I need to change anything in this How to or if I made any mistakes along the way.
Updating If you're already rooted
So you rooted your phone and now you want JellyBean but when you run the update you get the dead droid image and the update fails OR you live in an area that isn't covered by AT&T and you want the update, what do you do? Well thanks to some hard work by Attn1 we have a solution and its pretty simple. First off you will need to have CWM running on the phone. Now there are a few ways to go about this but the method I used was here:

You only need to go as far as getting CWM up an running on the phone you do not need to install it as the the update by Attn1 will take care of a full install of a better version. You will need to have a copy of Fastboot.exe and some img files. Below is a rar file that has all the necessary files to get CWM running (not installed) on the phone using windows (sorry I don't have the linux files for this one). Just unpack them into a convienent folder somewhere and follow the instructions on the link above.

I recommend using the boot_external.img but if you do not have an external SD card and only have the internal storage just use boot_internal.img instead. This method relys on you being able to get into fast boot. If you do not have access to fastboot for what ever reason I suggest you jump ahead in the thread and read Attn1 methods for installing CWM:

Once you have all the files downloaded and copied everything to the appropriate SD cards on your phone your ready to go. If you don't know how to do this don't even think about anything else till you learn this. After this is all done follow the directions below (copied from Attn1's post)
Procedure if you ARE NOT running baseband JYUS06032013 (ICS Basebands) :
boot ICS CWM
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-FIRMWARE.zip from CWM
format system in CWM (will NOT wipe data, but makes sure old rom does not flash back stock recovery)
restart start recovery/adb reboot recovery (JB CWM is installed - do not try to fastboot boot ICS CWM)
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-ROM.zip from CWM.
reboot
Procedure if you ARE running baseband JYUS06032013 (JB Baseband) :
get root (Instructions HERE - use GANDALF)
install CWM (Instructions HERE)
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-FIRMWARE.zip from CWM
format system in CWM (will NOT wipe data, but makes sure old rom does not flash back stock recovery)
reboot to CWM
flash FLEX-JB-JYUS06032013-ROM.zip from CWM.
reboot
This ROM is Pantech stock with no mods other than CWM installation protection and all stock permissions and symlinks carefully maintained and consistent with the product of a successful OTA.
The firmware is also stock, with the exception of the open aboot allowing fastboot boot <bootimage>, and installation of JB CWM with nothing else added or changed. It runs well with nothing broken. You MUST be on JB firmware (below) to run it properly.
You can let the new CWM root it if you like when you exit - it will prompt you. It will also prompt you to disable CWM on reboot make sure this gets disabled or the phone will keep booting to CWM rather than the ROM.

Acutally this assumes you are on a completely fresh install and did not have adb installed through the platform tools if that is the case everything I typed up will work. However you are correct too. Let me know if you think I should go ahead and rework the stuff to be a little more universal if so please PM me an update of the commands.

your right my apologies but one thing i noticed that i would like to say idk if its my experiance or universal after successfully rooting the flex the lockscreen fails to resize itself leaving a black space where the onscreen dock is usualy located no big issue though and the rooting was easy and painless once adb was set up correctly 100000+ points thanks so much

lets not get ahead of ourselves here guys in order to create a rom we would need to get a custom recovery on our phone this can be achived by mapping out the devices bootloader extracting an img file of it and using koushes clockworks mod recovery creator only when we achive a port of a custom recovery can we make roms and be able to flash them if any of you have knowledge of this as i am a noob when it comes to recoveries pleasae feel free to input we need all the help we can get guys

lol right now we need knowledge donations unfourtunatly we cannot start working on roms till we have a custom recovery ported over either team win or clockworks mod recovery this will take a little bit of time and knowledge and to answer your question about the stock nexus rom your talking along the terms of a cynaogen mod port? or akop port looking into it i would say untill we have mapped the bootloader we wouldnt know how diffcult it would be because the simlinks maybe difcult for a phone that has not yet caught fire in the dev world

i wish i had the time to do a recovery myself and get cwm working but with my family and my fulltime job i barely get any time. Im going to spend all my time on this amazing little phone to do what i can. props to the root method it worked flawlessly!!!

Awesome I'm glad im getting some good feed back on the root. I wasnt sure if I did the rightup correctly and im glad its working out for everyone.
If I get some time I will start looking into a custom CWM and all that junk I have a contact that should be a pretty good help in this just have to find the time to do it.

Yeah after coming from the LG Nitro HD I was surprised at how easy this was to root.
If you want to get together on gtalk we can work on this together. Right now I'm in the process of getting a ROM dump so we can recover our phones from stock images if we happen to mess them up, which I'm sure we will, but that's the best part! Lol.
I can smell CM9 and CM10 calling to this phone!!!

I actually don't mind the launcher, its pretty nice compared to other brand launchers. I'm probably going to try launcher pro though that's been my favorite sense I had my prepaid optimus V

I had launcher pro and hated it ... check out APEX seems like the stock ICS but with a lot of extras and without the annoying bits of the pantech that make me insane

I tried recovery builder but had no luck. Was not able to download files after building. Says build has been queud or something like that. Was having trouble getting the stock recovery img off of the phone.

In terminal, type su dd if=/dev/emmc/"boot partition" of=/sdcard/recovery.img
I think you need to enter after su. It will save it to your sd. This is assuming root. You enter your boot partition in the quotes. Use this to find your partitions.

Thanks for the help I think I understand. I have terminal ready and the app installed. Just not sure which partition is the one to fill in the quotations in the terminal.
I'm attaching pictures if that helps.
Also I'm sure I do not include the actual quotes when typing in terminal just to save myself from confusion. I do have root by the way
UPDATE:

These would be the correct locations I need clarification so I know which ones are boot and recovery for pulling/extracting in terminal.

These two represent your recovery and boot partitions. So in the quotes you'll put the mmcblk0p15 for recovery.img.
I found that pulling the recovery is that exact code, whereas pulling the boot was a different code, but found easily on the internet. I got the recovery easy, the boot was a little more work, but did get it.

Think I am not typing it exactly how it needs to be. Even tried copy and pasting. So close but yet so far lol. I really think we have all been making progress the last few days. This would help if I could get it to work. Would be useful and handy to have a backup for each device variation.

I think we have most of the necessary files to get the job done. If you say you have got you boot.img and recovery backed up and so do I. We have source files also. All we need now is for the recovery to be compiled. For a skilled experienced developer to finish up what we started probably would not be too hard. If only we had someone to really take the time with us with some of the next key steps. I am looking up guides and resources all over the Internet but nothing concrete to get the job done ?

Yeh, I hear that. Like I said before, I've got my buddies looking at it, but these devices that they don't own aren't a priority for them. I don't feel right bugging them about it every day. I'll see if there's anything I can find. I'm not a developer and get lost with code, but guides I can help to find if you have the build environment.
