Open the framework/systemUI files, and update the H/H+ icons there to 4G.
Well it's what at&t considers 4G for now so why not? Does anyone happen to have the 4G images from the EVO?

But its not what att considers 4G. It is a marketing trick that apperently works. Not to mention 3.5G would be kind of tough to squeeze into the status bar

these are 20x38, some of the original icons in systemui.apk are 38x38, will that cause an issue?

Make a copy of the backed up unmodded one somewhere where you can easily go move it back. Then make a nandroid backup just in case .
Here's how I've done it. Probably a better way, but it's worked for me. Make sure the modded apk is renamed to exactly what the existing one is "SystemUI.apk". Using Root Explorer, move the modded apk anywhere NOT on the SD Card - like the root internal memory, for example. In Root Explorer, keep moving up a level until you see the system, sdcard, etc. folders: then move it here, but not in a particular folder yet (this will allow you to change the permissions). Change the permissions to rw-r-r (check the first two boxes on the first line, and the first box on the next two lines). Make sure it says "permissions changed successfully". Move the apk to system/app, override the prompt to replace the existing one. Your status bar will disappear. Turn off the device, then back on. You should see your changes.
Works great. But only one problem. My statusbar dissapered for ever. Y reatarted and its still gone. I only modded the pics.

Verify permissions and reboot once more.
What did you use to mod the pics? What program did you extract the apk with?

You have to set permissions correctly, like screenshot... then reboot.

[Q]Changing Signal Icons?
Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but I didn't know where else to put it and didn't want to start a new thread.
I was wondering if someone could make a flashable (CWM) .zip where GPRS shows G, EDGE shows E, UMTS shows 3G, HSDPA shows 3G+, and HSPA+ shows 4G? I know you can see the network you're connected to under About Phone/Network, but I'm tired of AT&T's 4G gimmick and would rather see what network I'm actually connected too.
I tried searching around, even got into the APK Manager thread and everything to try to mod the icons myself but was pretty unsuccessful since editing XML's got pretty complicated. So, as much as I didn't want to, it's time to admit how noob I am.
I have the icon images I'd like to use already, so if anyone could help me out that'd be great.

You don't need to edit XMLs to change those icons. See my post here about using APK manager:

Attached should be what you're looking for. It comes from Virtuous Unity's SystemUI.apk, so might only work with Sense 3.0 ROMs? Or maybe only Virtuous Unity? Maybe someone else will be able to better specify. Either way, I still recommend you do a backup before installing. But it has E for EDGE, 3G for UMTS, 3G+ for HSDPA, and 4G for HSPA+. I've attached just the SystemUI.apk (has 5 bar signal strength mod as well, let me know if you want 4 bar) as well as a flashable Clockwork .zip that has Digital % battery and 5 bar signal strength mods (If you don't want the Digital% mod just delete the "framework" folder from the .zip and then flash). All I did was replace the pictures, the UOT kitchen did the rest of the mods.

Awesome thanks. I'm actually already running VU (pretty unfortunate that they had to put the project on hold with everything thats going on with them), so even better =]
(to Simba) Correct me if I'm wrong, (I haven't actually tried this so I can't say for sure) but I wanted to keep the regular 3G (for UMTS) and 4G icons I have set up right now. I thought replacing the 3G icon with 3G+ would change the icons both for UMTS and HSDPA to 3G+, which isn't what I'm aiming for either.
[EDIT] The attachment didn't work. HSDPA is still showing 3G. I haven't checked UMTS yet, but I'm going to assume that it's showing 3G too. But yes, the icon pack I wanted to use is in the VU 1.29 SystemUI.apk, I just can't figure out how to make HSDPA show 3G+.

I apologize if I put it in the wrong forum, but I didn't think that editing the build.prop file or regulating 4G speeds that AT&T hasn't "given" us access to yet was a general question.
Aside from that, is it possible?

Your missing what the dev section is for.
If someone had a custom Build.prop they wanted to share, that is a Dev post. Asking a question about development is not.
no, from what I've been tinkering with in the test settings (accessed with *#0011#) and pressing menu, back, selecting "network control", then "hspa cat control", I'm able to get better speeds on CAT 10 than CAT 14, but other's speeds may vary. (I know I'm a heavy user that uses over 15 to 20 GB per month too, so it may just be going through a CAT that I'm not throttled on too.... )
But with all above, I agree that this should be in General....
the inspire has hsupa disabled foe the att version with a line in build.prop. hsupa has been disabled on all att phone cept the iphone and the infuse. tere have been different meathods to disable it but is irrelevant because the infuse has it enabled. ther may be other settings to change but not to get even better speeds but I don't think it will be in build.prop or yield the same results.

wow i started messing with the diffrent CAT settings on my infuse and now i have gotten up to 5250 down on my speed test! before the most ive gotten was low 3000's. a friend of mine has a infuse 4g also but he has gotten up to 10,000 down! he usually averages 7-8k on speed tests. WHY????? he has had his phone since it came out i think.
Someone needs to build a CAT setting tester/optimizer!

No, AT&T has. HSPA+ is still 3G, even though AT&T calls it 4g. They may re-brand all the user-facing stuff to say 4G, but the phone's technical information that you aren't supposed to see will refer to it by its technical term, 3G.
if its not LTE , its not 4g Sorry to burst your bubble. I truely miss Tmobile when it comes to data. I would get around 6megs down all the time on "3g". I dont even get 3 most times with at&t and the upload is such horrible ****.

LTE isn't 4G either, if you want to lump HSPA+ into ' it's not 4G' category. LTE currently offers nothing remotely close to the original ITU specs.

I typically get 3-4 Mbps at work/home. Last week I was about 4 miles away, got 8.9Mbps. Another day I was about 5 miles further, got 5.5 Mbps. Depends on which tower you're on.
Yeah, I've noticed that too. I switched the CAT and got improvement at my office... Now just to check at home.
I almost feel like my Captivate was faster somehow....

I don't have a lot of time, so my search wasn't all that great. I have CM7.1 flashed on my Inspire, and my phone info says it's a DHD. I think that's the reason my data connection is messed up. Before my root, I had H+ connection, and now all I get is H, and it doesn't send/receive data a lot. And from my understanding, DHD doesn't have 4G/LTE. So how do I brand my phone? Thanks in advance

To help you, InspireMod is attached to the first post in the AOSPX thread in development.
Also, you might want to just keep it on your SDcard and flash it immediately after flashing any roms that have been ported.
And here I thought we were done with the whole H+ thing. Haven't seen this in ages. Its purely cosmetic doesn't mean anything. Hell I can make it say 6g +++ if I wanted to take the time and edit the icons.
And your right the dhd doesn't have lte and neither does the inspire. The whole 4g is just marketing. Its more like 3.5g Max on a good day. But that doesn't sound as good for selling phones. Personally I think only lte should be 4g, but even then that's a modification of the original qualification (lte advanced)

While we're on the MIUI topic, do you know if there is an issue with GPS, and if possible a fix? I find that it picks up rather slow, if at all, on this ROM versus other ROMs. I was able to get it to work on TeleNAV GPS Navigator and it claimed "weak signal", while Google Maps just wouldn't find the signal.
Also, I'm fairly new to posting, should I have started a new thread or is too many [Q] threads frowned upon?

I saw a post on a MIUI forum that stated there was NO 4G coverage on the MIUI ROM. Is this statement incorrect? I noticed that I get H+ but I haven't tested the speeds. Additionally, I wouldn't know which speeds correspond to 4G and which are below it.
