Does this give a temproot or a permroot ?
What methodology do you adopt ?

Does it also give you unroot option.

It's perm root...
And no it never crossed my mind about unroot will have to work on that... I am also going to list the code so anyone can work on it...

ran this without my mytouch connected to my laptop and it said it was copying files to proper places and then 'reconnect in 20sec'. If my phone isn't connected, where did it copy the files to?
I just checked the folder I have the exe in and all the files are there, am I supposed to run this ON my phone or with my phone connected to pc?

is this way reliable? i want to try it but i dont want to brick my phone... has anyone tried this yet and got it working successfully without any bugs?

I can verify this works 100%, I got a replacement from t=mo for my mt4g its emmc failed on me. It already had 2.3.4 gingerbread on it. I followed the guide to downgrade me back to 2.2.1 and used his 1 click root and it worked flawlessly!!! Now I'm running VU 2.37 on it.

which guide did you use to downgrade? I've seen several, some more advanced than others

There is one proper guide to downgrade, from G2 forums. It can be found on Glacier Wiki, section "Root", subsection "Gingerbread", link in my signature.

I'm still getting S=On I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong.
2.2.1
SD is not mounted, charge only
Debugging is on
After reboot like the program tells me, i'm still getting S=On

I use the the guide in Jack_R1 sig. Ounce I get adb set up its pretty strait forward. They sent a phone with 2.3.4 and bootloader 85.0005 or 6. I did get the bad screen, but I can live with it I guess.
It would help greatly for a guide to root 2.3.4 mytouch was a sticky in the dev section. That would make it much easier to find the info we need for people new to mytouch 4g or who aare getting the replacement phones. They all are coming with 2.3.4 gingerbread now.

Hummm
i dont know why ur still getting s-on i can't test this anymore i was a idiot and deleted the back up files and well now can't un do the s-off i wish i really could tho so i can see what ur saying... if anyone know a way to get s-on again with out the back up file please let me know
Never mind i found a way to turn s back on.... i will update soon
**** Stand Corrected i can't undo my S-OFF

why would you want s=on ?

[TIP] Running the RUU to get back to stock

I ran into a few problems getting back to stock until I remembered a minor detail from my HTC Hero days.
You need to download and install HTC Sync get it here install it.
Reboot your computer
make sure the phone is NOT in USB debug mode and is in charge only mode.
the proper drivers will install. you'll know it's done right if you see ADB pop up as one of the drivers installed. You'll see a warning that HTC sync isn't detecting your phone and that's ok.
Then run the RUU exe all should work fine.
Get the RUU exe from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952224 This is FROYO

Happy to be of service. I can't dev my way out of a paper bag, well I've never tried, but I can share what I do know.
I tried to run the RUU but it failed twice. Both times it would get about 70% finished and it would stop with an Error 110 which says that a file is either open or corrupted. Then it tells you to download the RUU again and run it again, which I did but got the same results. I downloaded it with the anti virus and firewall turned off. Is there another site to download the file from?

Either flash a different rom via Clockwork Mod or run the RUU. If you choose the RUU, be sure HTC Sync is installed, USB Debugging is checked and Fastboot is unchecked.
Thank you! It works!
Just used this thread to get my Inspire back to stock before taking it back for a refund and cancelling service. Decided to go with the HTC Evo3d from Sprint. This method worked returning the phone back to the latest (Gingerbread) and unrooted it from Cyanogen (CM7) ROM. Thanks a ton for sharing your wisdom!
Baffling Issues.
Hey, I have a question. When running this RUU update (downgrade) it gives me this: Error 140: Bootloader version error. Its agravating. I'd love to go back to froyo... I really can't use GB because it blocks tethering. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I take it you're not S-OFF? HTC (and probably others) decided they didn't want users reverting to older versions. You'll have to root, get S-OFF, before you can revert, but if you're rooted, you might as well just use the new andTether from google code:

Just found out at Best Buy that my phone is crap. The memory is out and I have no apps installed, my HD card is empty except for the standard stuff, and I get error that I need to free up memory or something like that. Guy told me to UNroot my phone and call AT&T.
So, this thread is all I need to do that???? Can it really be this easy????
thanks so much,

Ok, thanks for the info! And this phone has no root, its my Moms phone and she needs the tethering. Eh, maybe we can exchange the phone. Other than that I don't know what to do. How to root S-Off HTC Desire S

For anyone that has had difficulty rooting the HTC Desire S.
Having had my HTC Desire S made S-Off by Androf ( Root internet cafe on Edgware Rd London ) I noticed that there are a few methods to root the DS.
Most of which are quite complicated but alas I managed to find a simple method.
The Gingerbreak 1.20 APK manages to root any S-Off DS quickly and easily, simply download the app directly to the phone or download and transfer to the phone. Once that has been done simply install the APK file onto the phone, once that is done simply run the app and follow the instructions and then your phone should say something along the lines of there was a mistake and try a manual reboot to check if Superuser is installed.
For a few people such as myself you may notice that once you run the Gingerbreak APK the phone reboots itself and doesn't work, if this happens to you then simply format your SD card and remount it and try again and "voila" you should have superuser installed and root access on the DS.
Hope this helps anyone that may have encountered the same problems as me.

Excuse my extreme ignorance, but... how can I check this has worked on my phone?
Thanks
No probs.....
What would you like to check has worked?
I mean how do I know th phone is rooted? Superuser installed?
Think I need to read around this a bit more, feeling very thick, haha.

Don't fear! I believe that I'm the same boat as you, also coming from a TOPAZ and WM65, so any daft question feel happy to ask me (not that I'll be able to answer them!) I've had a sharp learning curve over the last 6weeks and my first Android device!
There are a few ways of knowing if you have route access.
First thing to check is if you have superuser access, if you can't find that out then simply go to the market and download an app called route check and that will tell you if you are rooted.
Hope this helps.
Ron
Ok, thanks guys. Couldn't find route checker but got something similar that told me I don't have SU rights - this apk installed fine for me tho.
Anyway, think I'll have a scout around and see what I'm actually trying to do and if I need to!
Thanks again

Dont people use the search anymore???
how to root s-on device? or how to s-off my DS??
My understanding is that rooting an S-on phone, if possible, only achieves a temp root that is lost on reboot. S-Off at present is only possible with xtc clip (hardware device) ( =lots of money). Software method is likely coming soon (ish) via alpharev team.
Suggest googling xtc and/or alpharev.

You need to elaborate a little more if you want some assistance.
Do you have s-Off?
What is your baseband number? That will indicate what radio you have and will give others an idea of where in the process you are.
Assuming you made it far enough in the process to get s-Off, you can just flash the ota stock ROM by attn1, which will have the OTA radio in it, if it turns out you are on the downgraded ROM/radio.
If you have anything other than the stock kernel/ROM on your phone, then the rooting was at least partially successful. You probably just need to get clockworkmod recovery installed correctly so you can install custom roms.

Yup, that looks like the downgraded radio the hack kit leaves you with.
S-Off basically means you can flash stuff. "Security off"
So as Gene said, you're partially through the process. You just need to get a good ROM/radio on.

Now that you are basically rooted there is not necessarily an easy way to get back to plain stock.

Go back to h boot, if it says "Ship s-off on the very top of the screen you should be all set. Make sure clockworkmod is installed. if not download rom manager from market and flash cwm through rom manager. Next go to the development form and find attn1's stock OTA update with radio. Download the file to your computer, place it on the root of your sd card. Make sure the file is named PD98IMG.zip, turn off phone and boot into h boot, when it says apply update? Press vol up and watch the magic happen. Also make sure there is no other files named PD98IMG.zip on your sd card as this will cause trouble. You will still be rooted with s-off but that's ok, I mean your were already trying to root, just cause you lost sound doesn't mean you should be afraid of rooting. Once you fix your problem and get a good handle on things, you'll be in love!

Should I root?

I'm really on the edge with rooting. I really want to do it, but I'm new to android and this is my first android phone. I'm afraid I might brick my phone or worst. I do plan on doing google search of each step before performing it on the phone.
I am in the same position as you, I am scared to root but I know it will make my phone much better. I decided to wait it out until the bugs on the phone are worked out. This way if anything happens then you still have your warranty.

rooting is no big deal! with the revolutionary tool it's completely automated so not possible to brick unless you install the wrong rom on your device. Not to mention once you root you can unroot if you needed to send device back for warranty issues so it's a win-win situation
Do it. Just read all the how to's on revolutionary. Really, really easy to do.
The only device easier to root than this was my wife's G2x. Very simple root procedure. Just follow the steps. Also there are usually tutorials on YouTube. Watch them and then go for it.

Hi, I am at the same position like you. My sensation is first Android phone, and it is not Rooted yet. Probably I won't root it, becouse for me is enough fast and functionally. if you follow the guide in the android development section, it's pretty damn hard to brick it the guide is noobproof. I looked through the guide, and I think none of the steps are "brickable" even if you mess up, unless you pull the USB cable in the middle of the process for no reason.

I have a SGS2 and dont even feel the need to root it, and besides for customisation there are so many launchers and icon packs and stuff.
on the other hand if you guys really want Titanium back up an the other stuff then I understand :/
But still I would say not worth the rooting atleast yet.. may be when ICECREAM SANDWICH is OUT

That is how you learn the best just remember don't unrar the .zip's they are for the clockwork to install scripts and roms.
So when you open the file and you see something like META-INF/system you gone to far

You are so right. I learned so much just by rooting this phone.
.. another thing bothers me, as former Desire user I did rooted device with Unrevoked tool, for one reason: use titanium backup and move apps to sd card, but now with Sensation I did not have that problems, all apps I installed had an option "move to sd", and I mean all o them .. so, if I'm still not into changing stock rom, rooting is really not necessary?

[Q] Need help with root my device

Hey i need help with root my HTC Sensation i try wit this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
but im stuck at step 1 and every time i try i get this message "FAILED TO GET ROOT"
try on 2 different PC i unlocked it with HTCDEV but im unable to get root pls help
HTC Sensation (pyramid -1.18.0000, Android 2.3.4 ROM Version 1.50.111.2
Branded in T-Mobile Germany
it isn't rooted even though you've unlocked it with HTCDEV? Someone else could probably help you better on this matter as I've never used that yet... But I thought HTCDEV Basically rooted your phone?
do you have debuggin enabled on phone? make sure you have it on usb charge,
also:
If you are getting root error messages
Some Users acheived root by repeating Step 3 a few times Try this
1. Repeat step 3 at least 3 times or until it installs completely .
2. Download busy box from the market , open it and install the app.
3. Reboot and that should do it , root should be working and WiFi with s off
4. You may get messages telling you it failed to root or installation aborted but reboot and check it with root checker. Many users are told its failed but are actually rooted now
If u want to verify if u have root download the app called root checker it checks for root and for busy box to b installed correctly... if that fails
Try Installing/REINSTALLING SuperUSER and Busybox (or busybox installer) from the market. if it still doesn't work then
Flash a custom Rom as they come Pre-Rooted
Many Tmous users are acheiving root while a few are not. please try all of the above mentioned methods.

yes thats right i want to achieve s-off with everything
is your phone still functioning properly? if it is (gonna sound stupid) try to reboot phone, also make sure you have fastboot drivers installed on computer, also go here for help http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=revolutionary its the revo IRC
also this could casue problems
he program hangs when “waiting for the system to settle.” -OR- the program says “Communications with phone unexpectedly interrupted.”
Uninstall any programs that may connect to the phone over USB and automatically sync. Specifically, we have had interference from HTC Sync and Doubletwist in the past; other programs may also cause trouble. Try reinstalling the drivers, if all else fails (or use Linux, which has a 99% less sucky USB stack).

I am having the same problem too. Somme xda guys told in some different posts to use taco root and while bootlooping, use the revolution app. Now what I don't want to experiment or do is brick my first android smartphone. So, help me out guys, s-on, non root, Sen XE.
I will be obliged if someone sees into this and tries the taco root and revolution. Revolution does not work for me because I updated to HTC's latest software optimisation update.
PLEASE HELP!

Hey don't think I am a noob. I may not know programming only because I don't know the language and also because I am an early electronics student. Now, I am s-on with 1.18.0000 I tried Revolutionary but it fails to get the root as I have accidentally updated to the latest HTC software optimisation update. Now, the only way to get out of this **** is to either wait for ICS and then its root which I don't know how much long that is, or downgrade it, which is also like rooting it except I can root my phone after downgrading but I don't know how safe it is. And the third and the best is finding out whether we can root the phone by achieving temp root with taco root and then while its bootlooping, using revolutionary to achieve s-off and then rest of the business. So. I am asking u "Devs" to try and report back to me whether this taco root worked. Thanks

OK sorry for assuming that you're less proficient than you are. Just that there are soooooo many folks that don't understand the basics.
Anyway, sounds like you're in a situation that I can't help with. I'm sure others in XDA can.
Good Luck.
EDIT: quick sanity check, Revolution fails to S-OFF ?

My bad, I added that as an edit after posting, oops. Note to self: make sure it's semi-sensible before posting next time.
Is it ok to root like this?
