I was linked to that forum, and i need some information
I want to root and i also, can someone tell me if it is possible to get rid of my text messages in my call log, anways can someone answer these questions?
1) how do i make a file on the Internal xd? is that the sd card that you can go out and buy or is it the one that when you go on like file manager on android assistant or even my files, that is the main folder there?
2)what is the difference between a ROM and a KERNAL?
3)does kies work for anyone else? mine always says that my device isn't supported on kies... i have the rogers infuse. I wanna know this because i wanna be able to back my stuff up in case i screw it up
4)was that accelerometer fixed yet?
5)I am a beginner at this rooting stuff but i did jail break ipods alot so i know a bit but almost all the rooting abbreviations i dont know. Anyways i got a thread called [q] Rooting guide - Infuse 4g and i wanna know how to do the stuff in there... Like is just doing this kernal thing going to help me get rid of the text messages in my call log or over/underclock my phone and get better battery life... Please someone help me i wanna root but i dont wanna screw everything up
Someone can probably answer all your questions better then I but yeah for Lies you gotta use Lies mini that's the only one that actually works with the infuse 4g. To make a folder on the internal memory just plug the phone into your computer via USB and select connect to PC from the drop down menu etc .. open it up and just create a new folder. Really simple. I think you may even be able to make one if your phone is rooted. The Rom is a whole package of the os running on the phone, can include kernal, modem, theme and many other changes. (Someone could probably define it better but definitley check the forums for info on what a Rom is) can usually make the phone faster too. The kernal I think is the base for the phone, not sure how to explain it. Do not ever ruin the kernal or you'll get bricked or atleast bootloops. AS for rooting I haven't done this yet on infuse only on my captivate. Hope this helped.

I honestly dont understand a single thing.... i need somoene to like do a skype chat or msn to step by step me through it cause for some reason, i dont understand anything... and i cant find kies mini... is that supposed to be able to back up all my stuff? cause i want that, and of course samsungs site is tooo confusing and i cant find kies mini download links anywhere -.-
thanks for the help guys
Kies mini just gets you the drivers so that your computer recognizes your phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793528
Just a google search away.
Just to be completely honest, other than rooting your phone, you may want to stop there. Adding customized features/roms to phones isn't for everyone.
I did web development for years and I still play it cautious when trying out new roms, modems and kernels.

for me when i got to the phone app, there is no call log, just says log... and it only has View by, delete and call duration... And view by only has all logs, miss calls dialed calls received calls, sent messages, and received messages... and delete can only delete everything, even if it could delete only text messages, i wouldn't wanna just have to do that constantly, cause i make alot of calls but i make like 20x more texts so i wanna just see my calls in what should be a CALL LOG... thanks for your input though

Alright try not to flame the piss outta me; i've been a member here for years and i know how to SEARCH. (and i did)
there's alot of reading between the lines that goes on here. lots of things are not explicit.
my needs are:
1. to be able to tether via bluetooth/wifi/usb/MIFI/hotspot my phone to a windows laptop
2. to delete the bloatware
3. maaaybe save the apps to the SD but that's not necessary
but i must remain with stock ROM. i had a cingular 8125 (wizard) and an AT&T Fuze (diamond) that i hacked and cracked and unlocked and every other thing you could do to them.. and it was always a mess; emailin the dev late at night cause this don't work or that don't work, data don't work, GPS don't work, radios don't work, the phone don't work, it needs to be rebooted everyday cause the other thing's from a different phone. hell i even blew the speaker on the fuze with some speaker mod i downloaded cause it was too quiet and so it didn't ring half the time. i don't need sweet fuzeberry pictures for the menu button and all of this.
so unless there's some perfect rom out there that doesn't have not one damn error, i'd like to stay with a stock rom.
so can bullets 1 and 2 and maybe 3 be solved without going with a non-stock rom? do i have to root to get #'s 1 and 2?
thanks for not flamin me
There is a stock rooted Rom on here which you can use that will let you do what you want.
As for the roms, I know everyone has their preference but gtg's inspired saga gingerbread Rom is pretty much flawless. Even have it on my wife's inspire and she never complains about anything not working. I am sure others are very good as well.

All of that will require root access. At the very least, your gonna need to do that.
Once you do, if you want a kick-ass fast, stable and dependable tweaked custom stock ROM...try the one in my signature.

Let me remedy that for ya.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1015206
I think there's only a handful of us around here that use this ROM as their day to day ROM...and mostly its because it's so close to stock. Not many bells or whistles with this one.
oh puke it appears i'm gonna end up crackin this phone into pieces as well.. bleh. there's sooo much i don't know right now. apn? what was it before i did this? what should it be? a million trillion new things with a new operating system, new phone.. not one thing is the same it seems. on the the [GUIDE] i go..
can this all be undone on this phone if i crush it and need to return it to AT&steal for insurance?
Take a breath. You will catch on and yes it can be reversed if you need to send in for insurance though if the phone is split in half you may have trouble running the stock ruu and getting s-on.
Check the thread in dev section on data speed to see apn settings I believe they are listed in there.
i have yet to even plug this phone into my laptop for the first time.
any activesync type programs i need?

I meant to tell ya that with the Ingersoll ROM, well with most of the ROM's in the dev section, wifi hotspot is enabled by default. I have used it and can verify that it works perfectly..just enable wifi hotspot in the settings. Oh and AT&T won't ever know either...though there is some debate about that.
Or like Newter555 says, do the research and you can add the APN's yourself.

If you used the attn1 method he mentions that you have to flash a ROM to get sound back. Do you have rom manager installed? It can install recovery for you and download roms for you.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
He has recovery installed. All he has to do is select a rom, put it on the hd and start recovery to flash it. The process is well.documented. ROM manager is not the answer.

Awsome! Good for you.
Welcome aboard...you're life is changed forever.
Today, I acquired a infuse 4g, off contract. I wanted to mess around with android, as my current phone is an iphone, and maybe switch over.
One of the first things I tried to do was tether my iphone to my infuse using mywi. I soon discovered android doesn't work with ad hoc networks. I googled a couple fixes, and decided to try my hand. I have never touched android before. I found this thing that said I could. So I went for it. After reading a few guides, I decided the first step was to root it using superoneclick. That went fine. Then, I read the instructions and it told me to 'flash the zip file using a recovery rom' which was total gibberish to me. So I did some more googling and found a modified 3e recovery thing for the infuse. I used some file system app to put that where it was supposed to be, but then saw that I needed clockworkmod to be able to flash things. By this point I realized I was far, far over my head, but stupidly pressed on. At about the same time, I also extracted the zip file from exop.pro, and replaced the wpa file that existed already in system/bin with the one from the zip. I also booted into recovery mode, and tried to install clockwork mod, which failed even though as far as I can see. Now, when I turn my phone on, everything is ok except that it can't scan for wifi. I assume this is because I ****ed with the wifi file. I've basically decided to give up at this point, so please, just tell me how to made it work again and I'll promise to not **** with it anymore. Also, I neglected to make a backup. Stupid, but I didn't know how and didn't want to go through another huge thing.
tl;dr
I tried to make it so I could connect to ad hoc networks on my infuse 4g and ended up destroying my wda_supplicant file in system/bin (i think) and
Google the original file you replaced, ' wpa supplicant file download for infuse 4g'. Next time save a copy or backup of whatever your doing.
Thanks, but I really have no idea what is what. Could you link me the right one? I'm sorry that I'm so useless.

this was your problem the first time... you need to read and study before you just start flashing things to your phone man. haha... us linking you somewhere will not help you figure that part out... and its an important part of tinkering with these phones in the way you are trying to.
rid yourself of the apple mentality where everything is spoon fed.
moving on, however, do what the guy previous to me said... find that file you downloaded. and do some reading, watch some instructional videos, focus on just rooting the phone properly for now. do that, then read, watch, ask questions like you are doing when you need to, then proceed.
read comments and stuff in forums about the ROMs you are flashing, what kind of problems do they have, what recovery is recommended for that particular ROM, stuff like that. just READ everything and anything you can about what you are doing....
the company that made your newly found OS has a nice little search engine called google... and it works pretty well if you know how to use it i'll keep an eye on this thread for you as others are probably doing so we can provide you with whatever answers you might need. good luck!
a good rule of thumb when flashing hax0red software to these phones is when something ****s up, 9/10 times it's just a little tiny thing you missed or did during the install yourself... so back to square one, and pay close attention to detail. these phones can be a little touchy when flashing ROMs if you are not doing it exactly they way it is recommended.
perfect example of this: when i had my samsung moment... when i converted from 2.1 OS to 2.2... for some odd reason i would ALWAYS have to flash a little script zip to wipe the 2.1 data from the device before flashing the 2.2 zipped ROM to the phone... the 2.2 ROM was supposed to do this and take care of it completely for me, but even though it did, the only way it would work properly every time i was going from 2.1 to 2.2 was to flash that zip beforehand...
hope that long rant provided some useful insight
Thanks.
But I have read the instructions on the stuff I'm trying to do, several times, and like I said, I'm more confused that I was at first.
I'm just not willing to break it any further.
So basically what I'm wondering now is, how do I put everything back to how it should be. Is there a way? Like, is there a way to load the original software back? I don't think restoring it to factory settings would fix what I did, but tell me if I'm wrong.
I just want everything back to normal.
Please.
Edit: I know it seems like I'm not doing anything to help myself, but I have a lot on my plate in life right now, and I also have absolutely no idea where to even start. Half of the terms you use mean nothing to me, and I'm just so overwhelmed.
I just want to know if there is some way to put it back to how it came out of the box.
Turns out that once the new wda_supplicant thing is ACTUALLY GRANTED PERMISSION TO EXECUTE, that everything works fine. Thanks guys
see... Knew you would figure it out man

Hello. Since this is my 1st post as "M4TGS" few words about me: I'm new MT4GS owner and new Android user, coming from WinMo world (been using PocketPCs since WinMo 2003 SE) so if something sounds noobish please forgive me, I haven't had Android phone before (or linux on my PCs).
Please correct me if/where I'm wrong.
My phone is:
LOCKED
S-ON
HBOOT-1.45.0013
with T-Mobile's ROM full of useless junk (I knew that would be the case when I bought it, I had WinMo phones from T-Mo before and they always were loaded with garbage, which I always flashed with modded ROMs, I don't know why I just assumed all Android phones are easy to root and flash shouldve done some reading here first...)
So, after reading a lot of threads here today it seems that:
1 - I cannot change my ROM (due to S-ON and bootloader version that hasn't been cracked yet), is that correct?
2 - I cannot get rid of T-Mobile's junk from my stock rom either, because even if I use the "temp-perma-SuperUser" method, delete the "bloatware" apk, the bootloader will do crc check on next boot and restore them all again, is that correct?
3 - Assuming I understood 1 and 2 correctly, is there a way to stop the "bloatware" from starting at boot? For WinMo 6.x we had few different utilities that basically work on the phone similar to batch scripts on Windows, and a lot of automation could be achieved with those; if there is something like this for Android could it be automated to stop some of the bloatware and remove their shortcuts from menu at every boot?
(i.e. T-Mobile's-specific apps such as "My Account" or "Visual Voicemail", specially the latter bugs me the most because my canadian provider Wind doesn't have Visual voicemail and I can't just tap on "voicemail" without being nagged to enable visual voicemail every time I tap on voicemail in notifications, its so annoying)
4 - How on earth do I make videocalls with this phone and ROM? (yes I searched forum for that and found "Qik" which is not what I'm asking about - I can install i.e. Skype and it'll serve me better than this Qik)
On my last WinMo phone I just tapped the "camera" icon in the phone app and it did videocall using data connection. I can't find anything like it (nor anything pointing to videocall or datacall) on this phone, what am I missing?
Any answers appreciated, TIA!
Well ill just start by saying 1 is wrong so you might want to do some more reading chief, i didnt get through the rest of your post yet just wanted to say your first thought is wrong

Yeah hmm maybe find a friend that has a phone with a ffc and video call and see if once you add all the info to the address book it gives you the option to video call. I would say google talk has video call but its trash. Then again you might have to use a 3rd party app like qik, thats what comes stock right

I know exactly what you mean. I came over to this phone about 2 months ago from a Touch Pro 2. Boy the difference is figuring out how to get around the security on it.
Anyway, just use HTC's unlock tool assuming you are on the newest software version. If you're not, then update to the newest. This will allow you to flash custom ROMs. Flash Clockworkmod recovery. Then just flash superuser through it. This will give you root and the ability to delete the bloatware.
You'll still be S-on, but will be able to flash any custom ROM you want, you just have to push the kernel separately through ADB instead of in a nice neat package.
Yes HappyKhicken it seems much more work to customize it than it was with any Windows Mobile. Not that it would discourage me its just an observation.
I'm still reading around, I have just found out about the "wire trick" to make radio S-OFF, so I want to learn as much as possible before I do anything other than hard reset.
Since you also had TP2 can you explain to me how do you make a videocall here?
I can't figure out how to make videocall at all
If you remember in WinMo (well, depending on ROM and dialer canvas version you had of course) when you tap phone there was the icon that looked like one of those old Logitech round webcams, when you tap this icon it switched to "videocall" to the person you were dialing, and if this person didn't have video capability it switch back to "voice". Can't find anything like this here.
Also probably stupid question: is it possible to restore unlocked/s-off phone back to being locked with s-on and full of junk stock rom? (in case I would need to send it back to htc for warranty repair or replacement, I don't have T-Mobile's option with Asurion insurance since I'm not their customer and I'm in Canada)
thx

OK. I bit the bullet, went to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1532809
run the HTC unlock, and now my bootloader says ***UNLOCKED***
(this was easy-peasy, just somehow no one mentioned in htc unlock tool thread - or I didn't notice it - that an account on htcdev is needed, but I made some quick fake email acct and registered there with it, hopefully I won't need it again? I just realized I didn't save any info for these accts lol)
So, next step would be to flash recovery - either CWM or "Stock 1.55" as there are these 2 to choose from at fifth step on HTC Unlock Tool.
What are the difference between these two?
If I flash one of them now, can I flash the other one later?
I'm not going to flash any new ROM yet, I need to get accustomed to Android first, but I would want to get rid of some bloatware and T-Mobile-specific apps that came with stock ROM since I'm not on T-Mobile. I know I need to flash CWM or Stock Recovery to gain root access, but I don't know which one should I choose / what are the major difference / advantages / disadvantages ?

Skype works very well on this phone. I've done videochat with a few friends, one of them using another Android, the other friend on an iPhone 4S. We were using Skype since that is a common software for us. Oh, I forgot, I also did Skype video chat using my MT4GS to another friend in Turkey, he was using his laptop. Great thing about Skype is it works on 4G or Wi-Fi (I have unlimited 4G data so I don't worry about it).

Thanks. Yeah, I installed Skype from Google Play (I think Android Market was better name) and indeed it works great. I think sound quality is way better than Skype for Window Mobile, maybe it is better than 'regular voicecall' too, or so it seems.
But it came to me clear now, and I can't believe it, but despite most of Android 'smartphones' having front cameras, the OS itself doesn't have videocall capability built-in, am I correct?
It's kinda let down if true? because AFAIR even my old TyTN II (thats ancient 2007 model) and every other WinMo smartphone with front camera I had after that also had videocall built-in right there in the dialer

To do many adb functions the device must be in debug mode.
The usb port itself isn't in debug mode, rather the whole device is.
In a very technical sense, a ROM is not 'polished' or 'finished' if it releases with usb debugging enabled - but I released mine that way because I use it so very often.
The setting is in:

Now to root my unlocked phone:
volume down + power, to go into hboot, plug in usb, fire up HTC Unlocker Tool and install CWM or Stock recovery, but do I need to change on my phone's hboot menu screen down to Recovery first or do I keep it at default Fastboot to install one of the Recoveries?
Another question is which recovery to install? It seems CWM is the one to go with but what are the advantages/disadvantages of CWM vs Stock 1.55 recovery? TIA
RESURRECTING an old thread
I have just rooted my MT4GS and I want to get rid of some of the stock T-Mo apps.
There was a thread here I read half a year ago with a list of apps that can be safely deleted, but I just spend good 30min trying to find it... I guess it was a post in some unrelated thread or such.
I want all the T-Mobile-specific apps gone (and yes I did backup on SD card with clockwork recovery). :cyclops: Can someone point me in right direction?

What I find the easiest to do is just use something like My Backup Pro or Titanium Backup to "freeze" the things I don't want, usually those things from T-Mobile or HTC that startup in the background but I never use. Like the Group Messaging stuff (there are 3 processes associated with that, I freeze all 3), the SWM-C process, T-Mobile ID (a caller-ID type thing you have to pay for). Yes, they still take up storage space but that is negligible, by freezing them they no longer are taking up processing/battery time.

Here is the original thread that was started a long time ago. I have still found it useful on occassion. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1222672&highlight=bloat
I'm not new to android whatsoever.. I've just returned from an Iphone 4s cause i was missing the openess of android. Now.. i've pulled out my old Nexus S 4g, Updated it to 4.0.4 and i cant get it to connect to my computer for the life of me! tried 4 different cables, 5 different computers, every driver i could find and nothing. I've come to believe this is a software failure... All i need is root and i will be able to sleep at night. Could someone package up .zip to give root and twrp recovery that i could flash through stock recovery? I dont know else i could do to get root... but this problem is becoming quite annoying.
1. There is no way to package a zip to flash through stock recovery since it would have to be signed.
2.For someone who is "not new to android whatsoever" making 2 threads about the same topic 2 minutes apart isn't exactly acting the part.
Try this guide.
Actually you're wrong, On the Epic 4G someone did in fact manage to do so. And yeah since i'm not new to these forums i understand that stuff like this gets overlooked so i made two posts. Cry me a river.
BTW Thanks harb... but that would involve being able to connect to my PC. Which just is not possible right now.
Thats the Android Karma... it happens but a little advice.
If you can't connect to the computer then it might a hardware issue not software.
If getting root was that easy that you just had to flash a zip on stock then everyone would be doing it. And good luck getting root without unlocking your bootloader first. Not to be rude but the problem could possibly be between the computer and the chair.

It's ok, not rude. I understand what you are saying... but did you not read what i just said? somebody had accomplished this on the Epic 4G and i'm just trying to find someone who has done it with the NS4G.. I've had 4 Android devices, rooted them all and been here since the beginning. It's not a hardware problem, it connected fine before when it was on gingerbread... i downloaded the OTA ICS then flashed through stock recovery.. but if you read what i said in the first post this problem only occured AFTER updating. This is why i quit using XDA a long time ago, because people just post a bunch of useless information instead of trying to help... The problem is not me my friend, its the damned ICS update, i've read multiple posts all over the interweb w/ people who have had the same problem, yet no resolutions other than bending up the micro usb male piece on my phone which is not the problem as i said it was working fine before i updated. Have tried multiple samsung drivers, pda net, and Android SDK Drivers, multiple Cords from samsung, to htc, to blackberry and palm pre and even a nokia one now. and 5 different computers... so tell me smart guy, what would you do?

Bro... Chill... They're just trying to help you out. There is NO way to to root your NS without a computer (currently. We are not Epic 4G owners here). You said you didn't use your NS since GB, SO during the time in between something could have happened to the hardware. Don't rule that out just yet. Your drivers might also be bad. Is this what migrating to iOS does to people? Makes them snobby and demand fixes to problems they can't figure out on their own? Don't hate on the XDA forums. If we're not helping you "hit the thanks button anyways, you ungrateful bastard" (XDA into video ). Anywho. Chill. Keep trying.
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
Paranoid (14.a Hybrid - 4.0.4)
Matrix Kernel (CFS - 20.0)
Intellidemmand (800/100)
Live OC (105 - 800/1000)
Deep Idle (On - Noop)
BLX - 96 (Inverted Apps)
I am chill, i am just trying to describe what I've already done so maybe someone could suggest something else. And no what i meant is i downloaded the OTA on my computer than transferred it onto my Nexus through USB mount a couple of days ago so i know its not a hardware issue. Im not demanding fixes, just trying to see if anyone has done been able to figure this out yet as i know im not the only one with this issue. And there is a big problem w/ people on the XDA forums as a whole.. i am a little frustrated and just dont like when someone is telling me is a User issue when i have tried everything conceivable and know what i am doing.. Sorry if this offended you. and IOS is a good device.. its just like.. NWO they want to control everything haha. I'd rather be part of the rebel faction. even though i love my ipad XD
There is currently no way to root 4.0.4 without an unlocked bootloader (and no custom recovery), and the only way to get an unlocked bootloader is to either have root or plug it into the PC and unlock via fastboot. As such, you are stuck with sorting out drivers - despite how annoying they are.
The video i linked to above describes in detail (and through video) exactly how to sort out NS drivers on Windows machines as well as the required fastboot commands to get a custom recovery.

Yes that is a good video, and does a job well done in describing on how to install drivers. My main issue is that my Computer(s) are'nt recognized my device at all... It doesn't show up as android device, or nexus s... but Unknown device. If i could figure this out i believe i could handle the rest.

Pretty sure that video describes that. You need to open up device manager, double click unknown device (while device is in fastboot), hit update driver and navigate to the provided drivers on the site. Watch it a few times, you'll figure it out.
Have you tried to install PDANet? I've read numerous times about it working wonders for users who have trouble with drivers. It has all of the necessary drivers built in.

yes i second that,PDANet Drivers usually work across all devices you should try them.
Like ppl said before, try PdaNet drivers it might help.
thanks everyone, , but like i said i tried pretty much every driver you can find online. they will not install as my device comes up as "Unknown", i've literally tried every piece of literature on the web relating to this issue... at this point i'm just going to wait for the JB update and see what happens.

So the ICS update makes you unable to boot to fastboot and makes your device unable to be recognized by your computer from there?
That's a new one. As far as I know, "Unknown device" is actually your device being recognized, just the driver doesn't get installed correctly.
Have you tried manually specifying which driver to install and selecting the PDA Net driver? Look at Harbb's last post.
Have you went as far as editing the drivers inf to match your hardware ID? I know I had to do that way back when the PDA net drivers weren't even available.
'til then, user error.

I swear you people don't listen, look i did everything in the video exact when i try to manually specify the driver it comes back saying that the folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible driver for your device... I'm not an imbecile and know how to follow instructions on a video. I know most people skip research cause they're too lazy to figure it out themselves... i posted on here as a last resort and feel like people are telling me what i already know then telling me its my fault, ridiculous. if you guys are just going to repeat what the last five people have said instead of trying to offer a new soloution then why even bother posting?
Epic 4G could do this in FROYO... It was patched by google in 2.3+. Do you want an app to secretly root you and install malware?

Well it is going to be basically one of two things.
1. Is user error of some sort. That is what people have been trying to help with.
2. Is hardware issue that no one can help you with of course. Or some software issue causing it to not show up for who knows what reason. Neither of which folks can help with since a computer is not seeing it. So they revert back to what they can. Point 1
When you asked a question like is there a zip that you can flash in stock recovery to give you root or custom recovery that also doesn't help your cause for people assuming user error.
The one other thing you can try is download mode and Odin.

Cool. Trash your Nexus S, clearly broken.
Edit: That's nice of you albundy, but Mr grumpySasquatch (fitting name eh?) has tried everything, including modding the drivers inf. His Nexus S is broken beyond repair, also the first one we've ever seen that won't adb but works fine for USB mounting. *chuckle*
There isn't a thread for this for our phone, so I thought I would make one seeing as i've tried it. A program called mobile odin https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&feature=nav_result Will allow you to run odin from your device without connecting it to your computer. Its super simple to use and it works pretty well. My charging port is hosed so I can't connect it anyways. I was on ICS and needed to go back to GB. Had to use this app and got back on GB no problem. I don't see a free version of the app anywhere so depending on how much you use odin, 5 bucks might be a good investment.
Hmm I ran the program and sent the logs a few months ago and never heard anything back to get our device supported and still doesn't say it supports this device.
It takes 30 minutes to run the system dump to find out our device isn't compatible......after running the dump....and to find out it wouldn't work
Its not worth the hassle when you've only got 15 minutes to get the refund.
I'd like to see screenshots or something to show that this actually does officially work on our device ....considering its not on the list of compatible devices.
Thanks
I guess after 2 days without a response ....there's not going to be one?
To bad I was hoping that it was going to be worth the money
Too bad I'm stuck on ics as well got excited when I started reading this thread.

??? Anything???
Or is this just a bogus post....and in the wrong section....should have went in themes and apps
A search would show that XDA members gets a lite version as with lots of other apps for free.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
Ive run it.....it generates a dump file (mobileodin.txt) that you send in and hope that he incorperates your device in the next update .....and since it does this ...it basically is not suported as of yet.
So the op is saying it works.....but in fact it doesnt.
I would like to see some evidence that it works for him and like to know how it does on his device and not on mine.
Also with the lite version you have to dl a flash kernal specific to your device from that same thread....but since our device is not suported...you wont find one.
Y'all should do alot more reading before posting links to something that doesnt suport our device.
i did read that thread thuroughly....very thuroughly, even flashed a few flash kernals he added that were for the other models similar to ours in great hopes of getting this to work.
This is what you get....it does take about 30 minutes to generate the text file to send in
Oh magda623....are you there?
we are awaiting your reply.
Im sure there is hundreds of us that would like to have this running on our phones...please let us know how to make it work.
Ok ok i give up on magda to humor us on how it works on his device.
I urge everyone to use the link a couple posts up and dl the mobile odin lite, run it and send your mobileodin.txt to chainfire and plead with him to include our device....im sure he will eventually get our message.....after all he does say he is only working on samsung devices at this time.
****wouldnt it be awsome to flash back and forth from mtd to bml roms without ever having hook up to your comp!!!****
Lol am i seriously the only one that finds this to be something that would make life amazing on the sgs4g?
new ealsjur
Mobile ODIN did not recognize the device when I was on CM9
Something about flashing the phone from the phones makes me uneasy. What if you need to repartition using a pit or something, while the phone is on and in use.
Btw short I sent a dump file a long time ago and have been retrying ever since with no luck so far, maybe I'll make another dump today after work

I've stayed out of this one for just that reason. It's bad enough to be messing with the underpinnings of an OS when you don't have true single-user mode, a "safe" boot, kernel, and emergency filesystem available, nor alternate boot media if things go really bad. Doing all that from user-land while the system is running all services sounds like just asking for trouble.
You can do most of what you are asking for in Recovery
Flash kernel/boot/recovery
Flash /system
Flash other run-time partitions
Flash modem
If you can't get into recovery, are you really able to run some Android program?
I'm not really seeing the need for this, except for people who have broken their USB connector and can't connect to a computer. Even then, when would you need ODIN? When things are so hozed up you need to start from scratch, yes, but if you have a broken USB, what are you doing flashing risky things?
If someone can show what this would do that you can't do in recovery, as well as a meaningful use case for it, I'll mull over how to do it. Basically, if an app can do it, a script in recovery sure should be able to as well.
I tend to think the reason we dont have support is because of the quirkiness of this phone.
I agree eollie ....I gave up on this a while ago...really it doesn't matter to me anyhow....I mostly thought it was a great idea.
I don't tend to have issues with flashing...or recovering.
And even if I did....I wouldn't be dumb enough to post here lmao.
