I have one confusion, Do I have to update hboot prior to flash any radio or not ?
I have HTC Desire S
Hboot 6.98.1002
Radio 3805.06.02.03_M
Kernel Tiamat 1.1.3
ROM: MIUI 1.9.16
Can i Update this radio?http://hotfile.com/dl/129621795/c522912/PG88IMG-3821.08.00.24.M.zip.html for my DESIRE S or NOT? Please tell me, sometime i have call quality(Sound) problem with MIUI 1.9.16 with Tiamat Kernel 1.1.3, so also tell me updating radio solves that issue or not?
You don't need to update the hboot to flash radio.
Yes , You can update to PG88IMG-3821.08.00.24.M and You dont need to update hboot for this.
Sorry OP, I just read the second part of your post, sound quality can be affected by the ROM but mainly the kernel, radios are mainly there for determining radio properties.
Don't forget though before you flash the radio to wipe the cache and wipe the dalvik cache, just to be safe and ensure you don't run into any problems.
Hey, the radio won't fix anything. I am 100% sure of that. It may cause problems. My advice - don't mess with the RADIO. It's risky business. No way to recover from a bad radio flash.

Ya you are right......I was thinking about upgrading my radio as last possibility to get good call sound quality in MIUI.....and today downloaded radio and from the help of this forum, Upgraded successfully. Yesterday I also have updated Tiamat Kernel 1.1.3 But at last MIUI has same issue. So I am tired of my best ROM MIUI because of call qualiy issue so going back to Stock HTC ROM which has no problems. Thank You
No, the call sound is just fine. It's tooooo loud, that's all. Set it to half, and it's perfect. Also, its a kernel issue, not Rom. I advice you to stick with MIUI. It's just great.

My internet isn't working on my HTC Inspire. Specifically the browser. Facebook works. Gmail works, but as soon as I try to use the browser specifically www.google.com it gives me an error saying:
"access to this URL has been blocked."
I read some other threads saying that an unknown proxy may have installed itself but I have no idea if that actually happened or how to solve that problem. The instructions weren't very clear in the other threads, not that they were bad threads I just couldn't make sense of them
I'm running Leedroid HD GB 3.0.3
With Kerenel 2.6.35.13 Leedroid GB v3.0.3
and my base band is:
12.28b.60.14eU_26.03.02.26_M
Android version 2.3.3
Sense version 2.1
If anybody has had this issue, has seen someone with this issue etc. Please help me out. Because this tanks about half the functionality of my phone and I am not happy about it. Also do I need to flash my radio? That seems like it might solve the problem, but I didn't want to just jump on that without knowing if I needed to.

I don't know if the radio could cause that problem, however the radio version you're using is a little unusual and I don't recall anyone in the Inspire forum ever saying anything about using that version (I think version 03.02.26 is the original radio from HTC that came out with the Desire HD back in October). What do you think about flashing the latest official Inspire radio just for the heck of it? Almost everyone has been having very good results with it, and it's the recommended radio for a lot of custom Inspire-native ROMs now. The link is in my sig if you need it - it's the PD98IMG version that you flash from bootloader. Also, it wouldn't hurt to flash the matching RIL file...also in my sig. For the RIL, reboot into recovery, manually mount the /system partition then flash the RIL .zip file.
I had a similar problem with one of the ROMs i used...I got pi$$ed off and didnt know what was wrong...so I did the best thing I knew how to do...
Clear everything and reflash the ROM...
I flashed the recommended radio 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 a few days back and my question is my phone still says .00P instead of .00U. Any ideas as to why or what affect that has?
Thanks
Try to reflash it?

Hi,
It makes no difference, and there is no adverse affect.
I just flashed my Sensation with Revolution HD also and I'm curious about the Radio update.
It says 'recommended' but what exactly is different about this radio vs the stock one? I've read here and there that flashing the radio can be pretty dicey and is a large casue of bricked devices.
My phone seems to be operating fine now without the flash. I don't mind flashing it but I'd like to understand the differences first.

Hi,
To quote mike:
He strongly recommends the radio because
--- Using a "non matched" radio could have a negative effect on performance, battery life & signal strength ------ You don't have to flash RIL files for recommended radio. It's already in the ROM ------ You would need S-OFF in order to do it properly
So, the radios are optimized for his roms.

It has no effect, they are exactly the same radio flashed.
The U vs P is a tag to determine which market the phone is for.
for example in Europe you'll generally have "U" here in the US on TMO we generally have "P".

Let me see if I can provide an easy explanation:
In the past there were often radio's specifically tweaked for the market they were releasing into for example a "Europe" and "US" radio.
The radio numbers are simply revision numbers in the evolution of the overall radio.
The more current radios are optimized and the preferred build for most of the newer ROMs because the Radio/IRL is optimized for the 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 sensation builds.
The current radios may not be overly different in their individual changelogs but they are different in how the matching Radio/IRL interacts with the ROM in regards to call quality, power consumption and of course the Kernel. This is why a chef will recommend a radio with a ROM.
I've used various radios on the TMoUS Sensation and the most recent radio is by far the best performer in regards to call quality and power IMO. You've certainly got nothing to lose by upgrading and might gain the extras enabled by the more current ROMs mostly in the way of optimized performance.

The flashing process itself causes more issues than the radios. The best way is to ADB Fastboot flash radio radio.img.
In the past when radio's were matched to geo markets or specific rom builds this was more of an issue. If you follow the guidelines it's actually really easy. Just be sure you S-off before you try anything.

i posted this in the xi 40 thread .. would like to post here to see if similar case occurs,
After flashing xi40 1.89 rom, I am having awfull WiFi connection . WiFi will be connected but internet will just stop working. Had this phone fora month and never experienced any problems till I flashed this . Was on cleanrom before. And now funny part is after having bad WiFi here I decided to go back to cleanrom and now I get awfull WiFi there too.
So is it something with the new base 1.89?
Does this Rom flash kernal aswell? Then maybe it is a Kernal issue?
Can someone pls tell me which base or firmware had inbuilt WiFi issues?
i had flashed telus radio with ril before... was workign fine till this flash.. so i dont think its radio error? or is it?
thanks for your time

You need to reflash radio after a rom flash the ril gets deleted when you do as it is kept in system partition which is wiped by rom before it's flashed. I had the same issue I flashed the 1.89 radio and it got better.

Hi All,
I am currently on TrickDroid 7.1 but have never upgraded my radio or my hboot since i've gotten the phone. At the beginining there was a lot of confusion and now I am so behind that I am lost. I read a bunch of threads but my head is spinning:
I am on a T-MO US handset with a EU modded rom
here are my current versions:
vle pvt ship s-on RL
hboot-1.09.0000
radio-0.16.31501S.16_2
openDSP-v28.1.0.32.0504
Could someone give me some clear directions and guidance on what I need to do, and what versions I should be on. I am looking to try viper or the new trickdroid, although my ultimate dream is CM10 w/sense camera.
Thank you for your help!! :victory:
You must have TWRP recovery installed. Download a radio zip and flash through recovery.

Don't do anything to mess with your hboot...higher versions will lock you out of flashing radios. You can try the other radios, but if you're aiming for CM10, I'd stick with the radio you have. Others give me screen off issues. BTW, why not just backup and flash CM10 now...it's a 100% stable daily driver? The camera is not as good as Sense, but perfectly adequate for a phone.
Excellent, I do have TWRP installed.
What is the most fresh but common radio to flash for use in the US with T-MO? Any other considerations for radios?
I will leave my hboot alone.

The camera is one of my most FAVORITE and used features on the phone, if it wasnt for the camera I would be on a GNex. So I will truly have to wait till there is a solution.

I believe you are on the latest TMOUS radio from the 1.84 update which is the only one that works for CM10 for me. My radio version has more digits though, so you might have to reboot to hboot to get the full version info. If you're waiting for Sense camera in AOSP, might as well stop waiting...it's never going to happen. With a combination of market apps like HDR cam, fast burst cam, MIUI camera and others, you can get most of the functionality of the stock camera, just not quite the startup or snapshot speed.

Cool, sounds like this thing is going to CL when the new nexus comes out (if its as good as this phone)
First, my apologies for being a supa noob in this. My brain doesn't even function 5% of that of a developer who is a beginner so please bear with my question.
Yes, I was super excited and was waiting for the Viper 5.0.0 ROM. Flashed it with 4ext. My problem is that during the process I was asked what launcher I would like to have with 2 options - Nova and Apex. After the reboot it felt nothing like the Sense 5, mostly I guess because of the launcher.
How can I get the HTC Sense Launcher/Home Screen/UI as shown in the videos of the ROM, Live feeds and all?
What did I do wrong while flashing?
Figured

During the flashing, do not check list any of the given 2 Mods. Selecting the launcher option won't come. Happy now I am.

Hey guys, I'm using ViperS 5.0 ROM, the ROM is amazing but I have encountered a strange problem. Whenever I plug-in my headphones, phone reboots. If I keep my headphones plugged in, it gets stuck in the boot loop and comes out of the loop when I plug out the headphones. It is not allowing me to use the headphones.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you are S-ON try to manually flash boot.img. You can do it with Venom Kernel flasher for S-ON user's. It's at the first page of ViperS 5.0.0 thread

Since I cant post anything in development section i will post it here.
I have 2 issues with ViperS 5.0.0:
1) When I record the video in 1080p and I want to make a photo during the recording the camera app FC after taking 2 photos. After FC I can't enter camera again. I read the ROM's thread and some1 have already reported this issue. This issue occurs only with 1080p resolution. It works fine with lower.
2) This one is related with Skype. During a phone call when i have my phone near the ear (the screen is turned off) i cant hear anything and the person who i talk with cant hear me either. This bug was also reported in the thread. In my opinion this is related with off screen CPU frequency. I had similar issue on Inspiration 1.0.1 after i reinstalled the ROM with lower frequencies (exactly 192 Mhz) to save the battery (at the first installation I chose high value and Skype was running fine - it was around 1 Ghz off screen)
Since I'm S-ON I thought will need need to flash boot.img manual but the phone started normally. After issues appeared I booted it manually using Venom Kernel flasher but it didn't help. I made logcats with Catlog app from play store.
Here is my setup:
HTC Sensation XE
S-ON
Recovery: 4EXT
HBOOT: 1.29.0000
Firmware: 3.33.401.153
