Ye im using :confused

The first release for the unity kernel had a bug which prevented the phone from charging, this has since been rectified with a patched kernel. To download the new kernel, go to the android development section, then go into the unity kernel thread.

download and flash the kernel from recovery, best to wipe cache and dalvik cache after http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14224235

Okay thanks =) But wont i lose my app data if i wipe the cache?

To be honest I don't think it's completely necessary when flashing just kernel, but is good practice.
and no none of your data will be lost.
That's all saved in data partition, so don't touch that

Great, It's good practice to edit the thread title and add [SOLVED] when resolved, you can do this by editing post #1 and then further clicking on the advanced edit button.

Okay added that to the title

Q. Should I do a full data wipe all the time before I install a new rom?

I have never reformatted the system dose it get rid off all the crap I had on the phone ? Meaning all the cached files from the roms I previously had or what dose a reformat do to the phone ? Thanks in advance you all rock.

It usually depends if your changing from different ROMs or staying with the same chef. When changing between different chefs Roms, its always best to do a wipe. Their thread will tell you such. If your staying with the same chef, you only need to wipe if they say so. Usually it will be noted in the release notes.
Good rule of thumb, if you are in doubt, use titanium backup and wipe.

Why would you wipe dalvik after wiping /data? Dalvik is located in /data and will already have been wiped.

How do you do a full wipe like everything except the s d card I don't want it to have any remdrnts of anything is that what the Android revolution wipe would do.

Thanks for infotmation.
Sorry for bumping an old thread but just to clarify on the wiping. In order to transition from lets say an Android Revolution HD ROM to one of InsertCoins I would have to wipe the data and cache via Recovery or else a simple execution of Mike's Superwipe script would suffice?
Zz
data and cache wipe recommendet before flashing new roms.
if u wont that there could be some know issue problems - so dont cry ;-)
maybe u should take an nandbackup before flash.
tried wipe when i flashed 2 roms ... so far so good ...
no harm wiping ... and dun forget to backup before that

[Q] cm7 won't get past load screen

I rooted my phone with the new hack kit from attn1, went smooth. When flashing my Rom (cm7) it keeps showing the loading screen (little blue Android on skateboard) but it never completes the load. Suggestions?
Try downloading rom manager and get the latest clockwork mod recovery and check the md5 sum of the rom

Do a data and cache wipe then reflash the rom that worked for me..
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
CM 7.1.0 is EXT4 so you definitely must do a wipe if you're coming from stock (EXT3).
Cm7 never worked for me either. Could never sign into my google account

+1.
You could even just wipe data, cache and dalvik, then reboot.
Update. Not all roms can function when wiping data without re-flashing so if you run into problems its always best to wipe it all and reflash. I just suggested the other method cause it has worked for me on several occasions.
Phone: HTC Inspire 4gRadio: 26.13.04.19
Ril: 2.2.0179Rom: GB Sense 4.0i by fshami
Thank you guys
Thanks so much guys. I wiped and reflashed and BOOM, i'm rocking cm7. XDA peeps for the win. Honestly, I sincerely appreciate the help.

Hi,
Go into recovery,
wipe cache and dalvik,
flash kernel like a ROM,
reboot.
Sometimes if you experiance many force closes after flashing a ROM it can help to "fix permissions" in recovery
Great thanks

As a matter of policy, after a few issues, I always "try" to do all three, cache/Dalvik/Permissions. I keep meaning to make a zip to do them all in one.

[Q] Trouble flashing Kernel

I want to flash a kernel for CM10 but it keeps either bootlooping or goes to "Android is upgrading...". I don't know what I am doing wrong but its always come to that. Am I doing something wrong? Can someone help me?
Is it cm 10 or cm 10.1? And which kernel is it?
Cm10 and its rohan's kernel.

just use [APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode!
or flash the boot.img with fastboot then flash the zip in twrp for the modules, make sure to wipe cache and dalvik
Okay I will try that but I thought s-off made it so that you don't have to flash the boot.IMG. (I have s-off)

it does. are you flashing gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip for cm10? try fixing permissions in twrp.
I did flash gapps but I'll try fixing permissions.
[Edit]
Fixing the permissions didn't work.

I regret buying my Sensation -,-

I have been looking high and low for a solution to my freezing problem but i still have no luck. My phone constantly freezes especially when watching Youtube videos. It would warm up freeze then reboot, but not a successful reboot, I would have to take the battery out and leave it to rest for a couple of minutes.
I'm not happy with this phone anymore, too much frustration for what my head can handle
Any ideas on how i could fix this

It will wipe and reflash the firmware and drivers, which would fix the issues if it has to do with that.

Newest version of my kernel has a rebooting issue that I fixed in the source code but I have not made a new kernel release yet (been busy with CM10.2). Flash r23 of my kernel and there shouldn't be any more reboots.
I regret releasing r24
