mm a PSP game? Nicee! I had a PSP but i seriezly wasted money on it -_- only 2 games for it lawl.
I defo wouldnt mind buying GOD of War

*Facepalm* Popolocrois was originally a PSX title. My bad.
Seemingly it's a fairly big Japanese franchise, and we only caught a small glimpse of it on the PSP. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PoPoLoCrois

AWWW
HOPES CRUSHED X_x
really hope they can be revived

Now I see why it felt so freaking old-school when I played it. It WAS old school.

Where's Wipeout? Dammit the one game I want that I STILL won't be able to get and they already have the damn game out everywhere but the US. (And no the iso doesn't work with the psxperia setup).

It's probably one of the titles which will launch in Europe and the US, as Wipeout has its fanbase there. keep in mind this is a Japanese list. We're sadly not going to see the likes of Ganbare Morikawa-kun 2nd, Bealphareth or Docchimo Mechamecha.

Wipeout has been out in europe for aggges. Thanks for the heads up by the way logseman, nice looking list of future games there. I spent many hours playing alundra in my youth. It's like zelda

None of the games are multidisc games. Actually, they're mostly from the first years of the console...

Where's all the OC ?

Mmm Yes nice observation
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?

All that list SUCKS. Where are hits from psx? Where is Tekken, Final Fantasy seria, Harvest Moon, Castlevania, Gran Tourismo, Iss ??? Only Arc The Land and Wild Arms are a great titles - else are a crap... Sony - make something better - or Ps suite will be dead in next year...

I'll post here what I posted in the other thread...
Hmmm, definitely a step in the right direction, although a few of those games are already available on the Android store, and I haven't even heard of a handful of them (I'd have trouble even pronouncing the titles ), and some are obviously original titles. The linked article also suggests that these titles are for the Japanese market so the list may change when it's released everywhere else...we could get different games or we might just get a truncated list.
But I mean Magical Dice Kids? Really?
I think in the next round of updates it's time they brought some more well-known PSX titles to the market...stuff like ridge racer or gran turismo, some final fantasy titles, twisted metal, tekken, metal gear, god of war...they need to bring out some more Playstation recognisable titles for these Playstation certified devices. I'm not convinced people are buying these devices to play games like I.Q Intelligent Qube. They sound like games you'd buy for a DS, not a PS device.
This is a good start but the next step in what titles are released will be crucial. New games also need to be coming in regularly.

Is XI devil Dice?
Devil Dice is a brilliant game.

Have you noticed none of the titles you mention are Sony's property in any way? Popolocrois and Alundra are by no means crappy games either.

The only game on that list that sony owns any rights to AFAIK is Gran Tourismo. Games like Final Fantasy/Tekken, would cost sony more to get a licence off the developers, than they would make back in revinue. Unless sony decide to let other publishers publish there own PS1 classics on the PS Store, then we might see alot of great games soon

Ok - but it is PS Suit not Sony PS1 Suite. This games are on PS Store to PSP. And the price is almost the same. I unsderstand what are You talking about, but it is ridiculous what Sony is doing. For half a year no new games, that which are in store aren't a good titles, and new games that will be on ps suit are not better... I'm disappointed because Sony wanted to promote this phone, even gave him a Sony certificate. And then NOTHING. They forgot about us. Only talking about how great they are...
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk

A few things looking back on this:
1) this is the Japanese list, its very likely the list for the rest of the world will be different since they will want to sell games that people would recognize and buy. Hence why Crash Bandicoot comes with the Play in the US and Europe and not Mobile Suit Gundam or something (and yes I know MSG is now on TV in both places, but its not a phenomenon here like it is there).
2) I would bet money any PSOne games that you see in the current Playstation Store for the PS3/PSP would be open and Licensed to be put on the Playstation Suite which means Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Tekken, etc all would be possible to be available for the Play. As we have discussed in the past, Sony publishing those games is like free money for Namco, Capcom, et. al. because they are long since defunct and there is no production or overhead behind them.
So my conclusion, in North America and Europe this list is going to be different, and its entirely possible that third party titles that are already available in the PS Store could be amongst them.

Sadly it is the case.. It's too great a task to emulate a system with 1/4 the hardware of the host. Sony could do it, I fathom, because they can reprogram all they like as the original kit is theirs, but it is not in their plans as it would cost them dear.

My old 2.2 ghz duo core PC with 4670 Radeon couldn't smoothly run PS2 emulators.
A stock Xperia Play has no chance.
An overclocked Play at 1.4-1.6 ghz with a massively optimised PS2 emulator MIGHT be able to run some games smoothly.
But it won't ever happen.
No developer is going to spend all his time doing this for free, and based on the extremely poor PS1 sales, Sony won't bother either.

i doubt the PS1 sales would be so low if they had some decent titles available.
I don't think they care about their PS1 sales at all. The cost of making an emulator (provided that you MADE the original hardware), ripping some ROMs off their database and encrypting them is minute. I am sure licensing Final Fantasy games alone would be more costly than any other cost involved.

Maybe. Maybe not.
The graphics and gameplay are quite bad in all honesty in PS1 games.
The Xperia Play is getting a nice list of games worth purchasing that are way better than the PS1 titles.
Backstab, Spiderman, Nova 2, Assassins Creed, Guns n Glory, Bruce Lee, Cordy, Asphalt 6, Sacred Odessy, Tom Clancy.
The list goes on and on and on. All of these games are excellent. And Gameloft and Glu and others are continuing to make excellent games.
The graphics rock, the games rock.
And best of all, you can pick them up for £1. (about 1.5 USA dollars).
Incredible value for money.
Why bother with PS1 games again?

Maybe because almost every game in the Android market was probably taken from a PS1 game idea or from prior consoles, and shown in its best quality there? Or even in Android itself?
Backstab, Assasin's Creed and so on can be perfectly compared to Tenchu and Metal Gear Solid.
Cordy is an absolute COPY of Pandemonium.
There were Spiderman games in PS1.
Asphalt has much more interesting counterparts (Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, Ridge Racer, Test Drive...).
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six... erm... well, featured in PSX.
And needless to say, there are 6 or 7 sagas of fighting games which wipe the floor with Bruce Lee.
Sacred Oddysey? Take Diablo, Vagrant Story... surely those games which stood the test of time did not need any DLC to keep gamers hooked.
NOVA 2 does even have a counterpart in the PSStore: Syphon Filter.
I won't even comment on a tower defense game such as Guns and Glory.
The list does go on and on and on and on. I'll pick interesting gameplay for 2002-worthy graphics any time.

I have been gaming since before the spectrum 48k. Playstation games are copies of their previous incarnations of games machines before them too.
I guess you started gaming when the ps1 came out and your mind sees it as "the originator of everything"
Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of ps1 games on my phone and play them with fpse. Currently playing point blank and time crisis, both of which I owned with the force feed kick back gun btw
My point wasn't to bash the ps1, but rather highlight the fact that gameloft games are pretty dam awesome that makes the ps1 titles take a back seat

While this is true for emulation, it isn't necessarily for ports. The PS2 uses a RISC-Processor and with a bit luck, it's features are still (partly) present in our ARM-Processor, which is basically a RISC with more features (altho possibly completely different ones). This holds also true with PSP games, which are probably even easier to port, as the PSP has a much less complex processor than the PS2 and just more power.
So, basically, we COULD see PS2/PSP ports on the Play - it's just a question if Sony can be arsed to produce them. Then again, they're apparently currently hard at work porting PSP games to the PS3 as "HD Remakes" - so who knows, maybe they'll port them with the Playstation suite already and as such, they'll work on our Play/Tegra 2 Android Devices/NGP.
My first real conscious gaming was on the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis (I was 5 yo when I beat Sonic The Hedgehog ). But there is no denying that the PSOne, as the first successful 3D-console, allowed for the first time to explore concepts then-revolutionary which are now, almost 20 years later, dead horses. Your point is valid, the PSOne had very successful sagas coming from very old ideas, such as Worms...
The problem is not only that these Gameloft, Glu and other big name companies' games are not innovative, which can be of course excused because you can make good unoriginal games anytime, but that their innovations tend to focus on three aspects: quick gaming and gratification (achievements), social gaming (aka more MMORPGS and social-cooperative games like Farmville and the whole lot) and the ways to monetize said gaming (in-game adverts, DLC).
Of course, these characteristics make sense in a smartphone, a multi-tasking device which you won't usually use for the same purpose for hours, and particularly not gaming because it is uncomfortable; aside of that, it's a device you use to communicate with other people, so it makes sense that the "social" angle of gaming (sharing achievements, shed light to MMORPGs and SCGs) is exploited: and of course, given that they're simple games that people don't like to be charged large sums for, it's normal that you want to explore advertising as a revenue source.
However, I would say that heavy gamers (the people who buy this phone) crave for something deeper, games with complex stories, puzzles and strategic thinking: RPG's, strategic games à la Fire Emblem, graphical adventures... None of that is present in our devices: Zenonia is a fairly good game for a Zelda-like, but the English translation is absolutely horrible, which deprives a lot from the story's epos. Spectral Souls costs $15, no thanks. Sacred Oddysey requires DLC...
It's just too big a clash: when I was young enough to be scammed into buying game magazines, games like Angry Birds would have been massacred in magazines and panned in sales, and now they're all-present and hailed as some sort of vanguard. I am terrified that some day Superman 64 will come back to life with slightly improved graphics, revamped with some of its multiplayer karting and become a smashing success.

Sure.
Here's a list of games i think that are either superior or just as good as any PS1 game in the same genre (mostly i think they are superior btw) -
Nova 2
Asphalt 6
Need for Speed Shift
BackBreaker 2
Dungeon Defenders Second Wave
Assasins Creed
Bruce Lee
Sacred Odyssey
Star Battalion
Guns n Glory
BackStab
Cordy
Hockey Nations 2011
Aporkalypse
Age of Zombies
Modern Combat 2
Guerrilla Bob
Toki Toki
Reckless Racing
Real Football 11
Spiderman
Air Attack HD
Brother in Arms 2
Avatar
Lets Golf 2
That's quite a few excellent games for a machine thats only just been released.
Don't forget that the Sega Saturn only got released with 4 games.
Playstation 1 only launched with 8 titles - http://thiskidplaysgames.com/home/playstation-one/256-playstation-one-launch-titles
I think the lineup of the Xperia Play games are better than the PS1 launch titles.
What you have to remember is that todays systems suffer from fragmentation. You do not get massive marketing deals with everybody playing the same thing. When everybody plays the same games it creates more of a buzz and can make the experience better.
Yea, todays gaming can be more lonely, sometimes you can feel like you are the only one playing a particular game. But you have to overlook this and go by the quality of the actual game.
Xperia Play has already some excellent games. Is it going majorly mainstream? No, ofc not. But still, the game quality of already released titles is excellent.
I am afraid we'll have to agree to disagree. Casual-oriented games and sports titles with PS2-worthy graphics are not what I'd call compelling. Have you tried Real Football? They move like dolls. PES 2006 and 2007 in the PSP were actually good... sigh.
Let's see what the E3 brings, but I'm afraid that so far I'm unconvinced.

Street Fighter wasn't original to the ps1 though was it. And that was a main point about our debates.
Tekken was the closest "original" beat em up on the ps1 imo and that was even an arcade port.
Bruce Lee is better than Tekken imo too although I am not a fan of any 3d 1v1 fighting game if I am going to be honest. I think they all suck.
Can't beat street fighter 2 turbo edition for 1v1 fighters

I think it's fun when they say "optimized por the Xperia Play" and then I see those horrible graphics.
The PSP, a machine launched 7 years ago (yes, SEVEN), with his 300 MHz CPU can laugh with the graphics of all games available for our 1 GHz-CPU device.
What the heck is waiting SCEE for doing something really good for our device?
Disclaimer: Yes, "the Xperia Play is not a console and blah blah blah", but if they launch a game for a such "powerful" machine, somebody could try to really optimize the graphics.

Back Stab HD - Bugs

Do you guys experience major bugs with BackStab?
I got it as a free title but I don't even think people should be buying this piece of *%$&%
I constantly will find bugs in the game like falling down into walls/stands/houses and being unable to escape which means a restart of the level/check point.
Also often times when you are swimming it won realize you have left water > land so you are pretty much stuck in swimming mode, swimming around the land and once again having to restart the level.
These bugs have made it unplayable for me because I get frustrated every time I have to restart a level and for the same thing to happen over and over again.
Let Gameloft know about the bugs so they can actually fix them?
You poor sheltered child...

They know about the bugs and haven't fixed them.
This was more a post wondering if other people are experiencing the same problems.
Yeah, I only paid £1 for it but it is pretty awful with bugs, glitches and quirks.
The swimming one is bad, don't know how many times I've literally swam around town.
I've played the game from start to finish, and there are plenty of really obvious bugs that I doubt will ever be fixed.
The game isn't even that good anyway.
It's no wonder that Sony walked away from Gameloft and chose a somewhat more prestigious brand like EA for the next exclusive games...

Um... they didn't walk away from anything with anyone.
Well, Backstab was an XPlay exclusive when it was released... now they're not picking any more Gamelift's games for that, are they?
The game is pretty buggy and laggy, but it's a great attempt from Gameloft. There's not a lot of elaborate games like this for Android on our phone yet and they did a pretty decent job, much better voice acting and gameplay than say Assassins Creed: Altair's Chronicles.
I highly doubt Joe Sony walked up to John Gameloft and said, "HEY, YOUR GAMES SUCK! I'm gonna go hang out with Hank E.A. now!" Also, remember this is SonyEricssons platform, not Sony (SCE).
It is a shame because it seems to be the only original game they came up with.
There was so much hype about this game in my country and they really dropped the ball on this one.

Lol, I don't mean that they said that. However, Gamelift's share of attention to the Xperia Play has diminished greatly, and it seems that EA has been appointed as a privileged gaming partner. Besides, Sony's (the alma mater's) involvement with the Xperia devices is greater now, for example the Qriocity store is now preloaded on the new firmware.
That's not at all how this whole thing works and Gameloft's "share of attention" hasn't diminished at all, not sure where you get that from.
Well, in the Gamescom, only Let's Golf 3 was announced as being ported to the Xperia Play, if memory serves me. Meanwhile, EA announced three titles, two of them Xperia Play exclusives, and other developers announced two or three per developer. Here's a list sorted by developers: http://www.xperia.es/juegos/nuevos-juegos-para-xperia-play-anunciados-en-la-gamescom/
I think Gameloft has done pretty well converting their games to be "Xperia Play optimized", they already did it with most of their library - that makes sense - and now probably have to come up with (see: rip off, lol) new games.
It's nice to see more developers jumping on.

LOL, nothing to do with them "not liking" gameloft, its just the way set exclusives work (same as consoles), in this case gameloft was first, then Polorbit, now EA, it will go back to Gameloft soon.
I much prefer Gameloft Games over the crap EA Mobile bring out, EA games (that aren't even very good) that have been out for absolutely ages on iphone just ported over badly to android, wow! the excitement! we get the year old need for speed: hot pursuit while idevices get the latest need for speed: shift 2 lol. and we already know how the new fifa i going to turn out......
Gameloft are bringing out many more games on the Play in the coming months
Gameloft ---> EA Mobile

That's also not how it works, not on the play, nor on the consoles.

YESSS ff9 was amazing
Now I loved Chrono Trigger, but I don't know if I'd buy it yet again at this point. However, if they optimized it to work with both the touch screen and with the buttons on the Xperia Play similarly to how they did on the DS port, then I think they will make a lot of people happy. I know people that can't stand trying to use the on-screen SNES controls for playing games like CT. One went the route of using a Wii Remote and Classic Controller to work around it, but that's hardly a portable solution. So if they implement more intuitive touch controls, it could go a long way on smart phones.

i actually liked X but yeah X-2 was aload of crap. And XIII is shocking
i thought the characters in 10 were horribad.Too annoying for my taste @[email protected] even finish the game, and the very famous tidus laugh made me mute my tv for a while xDDD
FF9 surprisingly was verry dark! i thought it couldnt be darker than FF7 0.0!Also vivi ftw!
Please refrain from calling any Final Fantasy game "dark". The darkness (and depth) of its plots is comparable to a Sponge Bob chapter.
Being centered around relationship issues and lacking a credible sexual dynamic deprives the plots from any possible attractiveness towards audiences with some matureness... such as we the people who bought those games originally, and we're now over our 20s.
It is little wonder that no one takes video games seriously if Final Fantasy is offered as the highlight of plots. Teenagers bought those games en masse, the same way they made their parents buy crap plots like Eragon or the Twilight series.

What you said is so true. I always wonder why game developers don't make games for kids, teens and adults instead of just kids and teens. Movies cater for all age groups, why don't video games? I tried to play ff10 and it was so unbelievably childish I could not stomach it for more than three or four hours. how about an AO or Mature rated final fantasy? hasn't the current set of new final fantasies, ie from ps2 era onwards, failed miserably enough to cause game developers to reassess their strategies?
I think the issue is that we were the first Western generation towards which games were marketed heavily, and we accept video games as any other media. As we, and newer generations, grow up and keep demanding videogames, some of us will ask for more mature plots and character developments and a market for them will appear.
This development will be probably similar to what happened with manga in Japan: first shojo titles had the spotlight, add they were directed at little children, then shonen, and when the target population grew up, more mature titles appeared from the seventies onward.
I would rather have new titles and sagas with fresher concepts though.Retooling known series is harder than starting from scratch.. That's why I like ideas like Katherine.
Anyone else disgusted by final fantasy 13? The cinematics were sweet, but it felt like i was playing Resident Evil.... pretty lame.
In psone era and when I was younger i'd call ff games dark for me -_-

FF7, FF8, FF9 and 10 were great. I played 11 which was fun but you had to be dedicated to play it. I thought 12 was also great.
People complained that FFXIII was linear but FFX was pretty linear as well. I don't really have an qualms with any of the FF games, I even enjoyed FFX-2.

Nice! I played this on 360.
It was actually a refreshing "arcadey" change to a stale Tomb Raider formula... I always liked it, but felt like it would've been more appropriate to release on a handheld. Now that's coming true! BUYING!
and it's just the first from Square Enix.. more established titles are coming, yey!
Very awesome that there are so many Exclusives that are high end titles. That said they need to get the word out better and advertise these things some more or something. For example you wouldn't know Hot Pursuit was even available if you weren't looking for it.
I will definitely be picking this one up!
God of War or Prince of Persia could heat things up, really!
oh am i dreaming?
Yeah man.... Comin soon

I have the game for the 360 and it's really fun, though I probably won't get it for the Play.
Looks awesome, played alot of tomb raider back in the days. I think it's starting to spread like rings in the water that this device is fantalastic
Will defo be a tittle i wil buy.
Regards Dousan...
Hopefully it will be cross-platform compatible for multiplayer like Dungeon Defenders.
Yawn, another months old iPhone port made for a quick buck. Not too exciting if you ask me.
Lol how could you not be excited about a game that received almost universally positive feedback coming to a device that is perfectly tailored for it? Hello, touchpads!
Why did you even buy this phone if something like this doesn't seem remotely cool?

Really? I love getting iPhone ports.
iPhone has a lot of great games, but iOS in general is too limited for them to be fully recognized. Porting iPhone games to Android removes everything that makes them limited... especially considering the Xperia PLAY - which has single-handedly changed the tides of smartphone gaming being un-ideal without buttons.
Quick ports for quick buck tend to be subpar, no matter how good the source material is. That's why I'm wary.
This is definitely great news for players who haven't played the game, I highly recommend this title, it's a great platformer with nice puzzle solving.
Only gripe is.. I have already finished the game on my computer :/

Maybe Tomb Raider, Square Enix as a brand and mindless shoot'em up games stopped being cool in the neighborhood of 2000? I bought this phone because it allows me to emulate good older games, I don't give jack **** about 99% of the "new" games (mostly poor iPhone ports or glorified casual game divertimentos ). There are still no RPG worth their salt, no absorbing plots and no strategic games. Hell, I would fawn over a Final Fantasy Tactics port even, or Crystal Chronicles...
If you want to see me hyped, bring me weird or innovative games: Katherine, Hyperdymension Neptunia, Super Magnetic Neo... I've been holding console pads for almost 20 years, and I have witnessed how companies quit the innovation race long ago.

Tomb raider is far from a mindless shooter. Just like resident evil series, over the years the need to draw more "Casual gamers" into the series has forced the developers to tone down it's puzzle solving aspects. And as for Square not being cool anymore 2 words ..... Deus Ex
Deus Ex, Batman Arkum Asylum/City (Square Enix owns Eidos), Square Enix still makes great games.
