[APP][ROOT] Sqlite Vacuum Cleaner - Android Apps and Games

Hey Guys.
I've just scribbled up this app for clearing up some unused space on your data partition. This is done by "Vacuuming" you sqlite databases.
This process recreates the archive, and removes all the unused (reserved) space from the databases. If entries are oftenly deleted these spaces can become quite big. And that adds up over many databases.
So if you want to try it out it is attached to this post. Please leave some feedback, and consider donating if you like the app. It'll help me get away from my craptop (Crappy Laptop).
Also, if we have any artists out there feel free to give your try on an icon for the app.
NEW VERSION UP:
Rewrote app (Hopefully for the better)
Now shows how much space was cleaned
-- Kiljacken

Reserve second post, and also a little bump. Hope you don't mind

It says there It would take awhile, but it only took just a couple of second. Is it supposed to work this way?

What an interesting app. I've tested, and it took a few mins to "do its thing".
It does what you said... good job!

Keeps Crashing on Motorola Atrix
Thanks for the APPS.
While scanning the apps keeps crashing for me. I have a rooted Motorola Atrix running Cherry-Pi Rom.
Thanks.

Trying it now Thanx for developing!
The end result is that we get more space left on the internal space? No speed bumps?

Tried it out and looks like I gained 6MB I did a full Titanium backup beforehand just in case. Nice job! Stick an icon on this puppy and get it on the market!
Edit: One recommendation: If possible, show how much space was gained after the process is complete.

holy ****, i gained at least 10mb!
thank you

thx for sharing work perfectly

Brilliant! Definately will be watching the progress on this one.

good share mate

Ran the app. It took about 30 secs and didn't specify anything about how many MB is cleaned. Does that mean there was nothing to clean?

Thanks for the app kiljacken!

The app does not display the MB cleaned / gained at this time. I suggested that feature. You just have to check the space before and after for now.

Great also on my device about 10 MB more after cleaning.

I second that suggestion, it would make the tool even better.

More suggestions:
1. Maybe you can add a top 3 list of the biggest offenders?
2. Add the ability to schedule a clean. For example, I would like to have this run every day at 5AM.

the amount of space added in a day means you probably wouldnt need to run it every day
this app is a great concept though, much easier than manually vacuuming, ive saved ~3mb from my mmssms.db alone (when i manually vacuumed it), having an app to do this automatically is a great idea

[APP] SnapSwap - Android Photoswap clone

Hi all
Im new here so I hope this is posted right. Ive developed an Android app that is similar to the iPhone Photoswap app. For those not aware, Photoswap lets you take a photo and send it to a random person, and you will in return receive a random photo back. You can then take part in picture-conversations with the person who you received a photo from.
Ive had a couple people testing my app and it seems to just about ready (apart from using the default app icon), and I'd like to put it out there for others to start using (and hopefully provide some feedback on ) Im new to android development (although not new to programming itself), and this is my first android app. IMHO it works better than the similar Picswap app that exists already, as this doesnt force-close constantly or throw-out error messages regarding "corrupt" images
I have attached the APK with my post for anyone who wishes to download and install it
There is a known issue with the app at the moment that it does not (at least on HTC devices) delete any photos that you have taken, and they still appear in your Photos app. From what Ive found, using the camera Intent saves 2 copies of the photo to the SD card, and Ive only found one path from the URI to delete (so 1 copy is deleted, but the other remains). These can be deleted from the Photos app still however, but Im looking into how to delete these automatically from the app also.
Edit: The app also starts with a blank screen (no default image yet), just press the menu key to begin
Edit 16th September: New APK uploaded, fixes some threading issues and adds debug log output. Please download and install this as the old one may continue to run in the background and not pause properly when changing apps.
For those having issues, please use aLogCat (from the market) and filter by "SnapSwap" to access the debug log. Please PM me a copy of this along with your phone model and android version and I will look into it Most issues so far seem to be with Cyanogen Mod and Motorola users
hay, i'm one of the beta testers,
and this app is really nice
i hope the optic would be a bit better in the next beta , but it makes fun to "swapping" pictures with other testers !
it is much faster then "a world of photo" it never take longer then 10sec since i get a picture
Really nice and weLL done
Greetings from germany !
Thanks for sharing!
Im going to try make an icon for it soon along with a default image to be shown as well, and adjust the polling time with the server for replies (or even look at adding a push notification system to it)
Just updated the APK in my original post to fix some bugs as at least one user was not being assigned a unique ID properly, updated the server to watch for this also.
For those that have already installed the app, I recommend installing this one over it
If those that have installed it could provide some feedback it would also be greatly appreciated
nice idea i like it , i will share my photo with others sounds good
i will feed u back

There has not been any unwanted material sent via it as yet. Im looking into the best way to ban those that would at the moment. As it is currently though, devices are only identified via a unique ID provided by the server the first time the device accesses it, and this is extremely simple to get around if I were to "block" a device.
To those that have had force-closures: Can you please let me know the following..
1) Do you have an SD Card installed?
2) What device are you using?
3) What version of Android are you running?
Works great for me on Samsung Vibrant. I only get one copy of the pictures (that I take), then of course the temp files SnapSwapImg.jpg (the last pic I took) and SnapSwapImg2.jpg (the last one I received). I totally dig the application! You can reply to pictures (of course, with other pictures), receive replies, and even continue your "pic conversation" with that individual. Yeah, you could end up with a dude's (or chick's, though I doubt there'd be many complaining) junk in exchange for your picture, but putting in any kind of regulation for something like that just ruins the whole point of the application. Can't wait to see this adopted by more people.

I have a suggestion. You know how the WifiKiller app is able to detect the card manufacturer? For e.g. "Apple Computer" would show up with the ipaddress? Is it possible to implement something like this

I agree. I've had a free 50gb from Box for a couple of years, but the lack of Sync makes it far less useful. Any use of that space is accomplished manually, which partially defeats the purpose.
Unless I'm missing something - is there a way to get Box files and folders to automatically update, upload, etc.?

I don't think so. You can of course save from a lot of apps on your 700 or other Android to the cloud, and access your files (provided you have some kind of data connection), but automagically... not with the app itself. I saw that an app I have been using for a loooong time with my own FTP server actually supports syncing... <blush>: FolderSync. Will give it a try.
Trial version ("only allows two accounts and has no sync filters or Tasker support" -- enough for testing Box ):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Full version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full
EDIT: confirmed working! I really recommend FolderSync for its versatility and all the options it throws at you. Nice to see it actually works.
It works!! Thank you! I also noticed that Polaris Office can save/edit files on Box no problem.
This is a great offer, no strings from what I've been reading in their TOS and 3rd party reports. Seems they just started the offer and who knows how long they will. They do limit the file size per file though. So to move big files, then you have to pay.
One thing to keep in mind about this deal though, they offer zero warranty and zero guarantees of your data being secure. See item#14 of the TOS. But I guess you can't ask for much when it's free .

Thanks for the link - no, I wasn't aware of this, and it does look promising.
It looks like this would work for my phone, but I'll have to see if there's a Windows desktop equivalent. That's where it would be the most useful. I'm currently using IDrive to backup various files and folders on my desktop, in real time. I was able to get 15gb of free storage there, and it does do full sync, but I'd love to be able to do this with my 50gb of free Box storage. As I said, the main limitation with free Box is that it does not provide a sync function. If there's a way to enable this with a 3rd party application, that would be ideal.

Exactly - that's what I was referring to. Box definitely does do real-time sync, but you need one of their paid accounts for this.
I have mixed feelings about paying for cloud-based storage, and have taken a serious look at CrashPlan, SOS Online Backup, etc., to do a full backup of perhaps 300gb+ of photos and files. But I haven't convinced myself this is either practical, reliable, or necessary. I currently have a backup strategy with 2 duplicate internal hard drives, updated nightly, along with a similarly cloned external HD backed up weekly, and then stored off-site.

[WIDGET][2.1+] XKCD Now Home Screen Widget

Hi,
So this is my first time posting an app/widget to the forums. After seeing xkcd.com/now, I thought it deserved to be made into a widget that doesn't require internet connection, so I used this project to learn how to make android widgets. Turns out it's simpler than I thought.
To read this widget you have to find your location on the inside Earth map, and compare its location to the 24 hour clock on the outside.
Here is a more in depth explanation.
All of xkcd.com is creative commons so there shouldn't be a problem with distributing this app.
Here is the play store URL: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reshefelisha.xkcdnowwidget
In the attached screenshot you can see how it works. I'm in the US West Coast, so it gives you a demonstration of how to read the clock.
Enjoy
So this somehow made the front page of XDA, I'm honoured, but I'd like to remind everyone that this is just an adaptation of xkcd.com/now , and doesn't account for DST. It's funny that it made the front page on the day that DST takes effect, though.
I'll try to make an update that corrects it partially.

It's the way Randall Muroe first coded it. it has to contain 96 pictures and picks one every 15. Kind of a bummer. Here's the source if you're suspicious that it does more than it claims: https://github.com/Shef-/XKCDNowWidget
Added Live Wallpaper and DST support
I added a live wallpaper and the option for DST. It's all part of the same app so that you only need to download the 26mb file once and all resources are shared.
Nice Widget, but I have a suggestion:
For shrinking apk size you just need to compress .png files better
Using "PNGGauntlet" I just got the "xkdc01.png" from 272,44 KB to 195,95.
That's 72% of original image size, without any loss of quality!
That, would be taking down the app weight to about 20mb if I did the maths correctly.
And it's lossless: its just better algorithms re-encoding the png files and removing extra information unneeded for the image.
You can use any program you like, i used PNGGauntlet just because it's so easy to use, and works good enough for me!
A little downside: re-encoding takes time, and in olds computer a lot of time, but in my opinion, for something like this, its worth it.
Bye!

[APP][3.2+][FREE] Blox Backup. Unlimited storage. Cloud

Right since last year i haven't been developing any apps due to both my other apps just failing and because i now actually have a job but there's things i always wanted to do in terms of Android apps and an app like this was definitely one of them.
so about the app, like the title says it's a cloud backup app, which i have made for backing up images to the cloud, it's also got unlimited storage and thankfully is secure enough for other people to use.
It's not %100 complete but apps never are so this app will hopefully be supported a lot lot more than my other apps so if there's features you'd like but the app doesn't have then let me know and i'll try my best to add it.
Here's the Gplay description:
Blox Backup is an easy to use image cloud backup app with unlimited storage which means you can backup any image of any size for free with no worrying about limited storage or losing any of your favourite photo's.
I have made Blox Backup easy to use with a clean and simple layout to ensure you can use the app without issue.
It also has these simple features:
Ability to sign up to your own personal account
Unlimited storage
Easy to use interface
A clean and simple grid gallery
The ability to download your photo's back
You can also delete the images at any time!
So why not choose Blox Backup as your next solution to securing your favourite photo's!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplistic.bloxbackup
So yeah, if you like it then please let me know as i have a good feeling about this app!
Thanks for reading
What method are you using to secure the photos?
Also, when I try to select a photo to upload, it just force closes. So the app is unusable right now.

I'm currently trying to resolve the problem
Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately i have had to temporarily un publish the app due to problems.
Right i give up, I've tried every single "solution" but absolutely nothing works, so i have no idea what's happened but it won't work so this app, unless someone can actually fix it, is going to off the play store
Okay, I'm feeling very very stupid right now, it turns out i forgot i deleted the imageview from the layout but made a rookie mistake and left the code. I'm such a twat. It will be back on the play store soon!
It's back on the play store now and this time it'll actually work

Also, when I try to select a photo to upload, it just force closes. So the app is unusable right now.

How are you finding the app now you can actually upload?
The app looks great and I love the simpleness of it.
There is one feature that I suggest you add though. Can you make it so that we can select multiple pictures to upload at once? It is a pain to only be able to do one at a time.
Other then that, I love it!

That will be a part of the next update which will out in a few days, maybe less and I'm glad you like it, I'd appreciate a review because it hasn't had the best start and could do with some more reviews to get it shown a little more

Generally i like this idea, but how can you guarantee unlimited storage?
Where is the server at? How do i make sure that security is good enough and nobody but me got access to my photos?

+1, what he said.
The only other app I know that is technically "unlimited storage" is Shoebox. It basically shrinks your image to a lower resolution so that their server/SAN/NAS doesn't fill out quickly. There's no way "unlimited storage" is a free thing just like that, there's gotta be tradeoffs or compromises somehow and someone's gotta pay for hosting the storage. Please explain how all of this will be addressed, otherwise for all we know we could be upload our private/personal photos to your server for you to enjoy.

+1. Wanna know where, what cryption, and so on for this app. If it is stored in USA, it's kinda out of the question to use this app.
Well according to Quickblox it's unlimited and i had a look because i thought there might have been some catch but the only thing it really says is that it's on a shared cloud storage as I'm only on the basic free package. As far as i know it's safe as long as i don't give any details away and as long as i use my own api key, secret code and auth key, rather than a public test one.
If i'm wrong and using shared storage isn't safe or could harm any of you then please let me know because i want this to be genuine app but if it'll cause problems i may as well delete it and not bother with it.
Again though, as far as i know it's safe and is indeed unlimited unless i paid for the top package which i definitely can't afford
I like it very much so far. Thank you

Great app. Thanks dev. Just wanna make sure about the security. and the multiple selection of downloading and uploading. And maybe a timeline or album. Still a lot to develop. But a great one.
