Right since last year i haven't been developing any apps due to both my other apps just failing and because i now actually have a job but there's things i always wanted to do in terms of Android apps and an app like this was definitely one of them.
so about the app, like the title says it's a cloud backup app, which i have made for backing up images to the cloud, it's also got unlimited storage and thankfully is secure enough for other people to use.
It's not %100 complete but apps never are so this app will hopefully be supported a lot lot more than my other apps so if there's features you'd like but the app doesn't have then let me know and i'll try my best to add it.
Here's the Gplay description:
Blox Backup is an easy to use image cloud backup app with unlimited storage which means you can backup any image of any size for free with no worrying about limited storage or losing any of your favourite photo's.
I have made Blox Backup easy to use with a clean and simple layout to ensure you can use the app without issue.
It also has these simple features:
Ability to sign up to your own personal account
Unlimited storage
Easy to use interface
A clean and simple grid gallery
The ability to download your photo's back
You can also delete the images at any time!
So why not choose Blox Backup as your next solution to securing your favourite photo's!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplistic.bloxbackup
So yeah, if you like it then please let me know as i have a good feeling about this app!
Thanks for reading
What method are you using to secure the photos?
Also, when I try to select a photo to upload, it just force closes. So the app is unusable right now.

I'm currently trying to resolve the problem
Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately i have had to temporarily un publish the app due to problems.
Right i give up, I've tried every single "solution" but absolutely nothing works, so i have no idea what's happened but it won't work so this app, unless someone can actually fix it, is going to off the play store
Okay, I'm feeling very very stupid right now, it turns out i forgot i deleted the imageview from the layout but made a rookie mistake and left the code. I'm such a twat. It will be back on the play store soon!
It's back on the play store now and this time it'll actually work

How are you finding the app now you can actually upload?
The app looks great and I love the simpleness of it.
There is one feature that I suggest you add though. Can you make it so that we can select multiple pictures to upload at once? It is a pain to only be able to do one at a time.
Other then that, I love it!

That will be a part of the next update which will out in a few days, maybe less and I'm glad you like it, I'd appreciate a review because it hasn't had the best start and could do with some more reviews to get it shown a little more

Generally i like this idea, but how can you guarantee unlimited storage?
Where is the server at? How do i make sure that security is good enough and nobody but me got access to my photos?

+1, what he said.
The only other app I know that is technically "unlimited storage" is Shoebox. It basically shrinks your image to a lower resolution so that their server/SAN/NAS doesn't fill out quickly. There's no way "unlimited storage" is a free thing just like that, there's gotta be tradeoffs or compromises somehow and someone's gotta pay for hosting the storage. Please explain how all of this will be addressed, otherwise for all we know we could be upload our private/personal photos to your server for you to enjoy.

+1. Wanna know where, what cryption, and so on for this app. If it is stored in USA, it's kinda out of the question to use this app.
Well according to Quickblox it's unlimited and i had a look because i thought there might have been some catch but the only thing it really says is that it's on a shared cloud storage as I'm only on the basic free package. As far as i know it's safe as long as i don't give any details away and as long as i use my own api key, secret code and auth key, rather than a public test one.
If i'm wrong and using shared storage isn't safe or could harm any of you then please let me know because i want this to be genuine app but if it'll cause problems i may as well delete it and not bother with it.
Again though, as far as i know it's safe and is indeed unlimited unless i paid for the top package which i definitely can't afford
I like it very much so far. Thank you

I got it, messed around with it at work (sitting outside) and it looked amazing. Then went to use it at the end of the day on my drive home (just to test it out) and it never successfully routed me by the time I got home so I've yet to have a "real world experience" with it, but I assume the servers were just getting hammered or something (connects to server to route, re-route, etc).
Gonna keep messing with it tho because it seems pretty impressive for a beta.
Edit: and before people ask, I don't think sharing the apk is a good idea. It definitely does an online authentication check every time you run it.

hahah.
Well all of a sudden during the authentication step mine is telling me there is an update available and says update or no thanks. If i click update it takes me to the market with a search for the publisher which doesn't return wikitude drive (nor is it available anymore if i search for it) and if i click don't update, it says auth failed and doesn't let me do anything.
Maybe a glitch? Maybe they revoked the beta?
Edit: Just found this on their website.

Fellow testers,
Thank you for participating in our Wikitude Beta Test phase and also thank you for the great feedback!

I guess I'll just run the Camera app with the Navigation in the Background for now.
is it full? I cannot see it on the market, only the browser....

I don't think it's a good idea. Unless someone is willing to hack it to get around the activation step, it is definitely doing an online check against their servers every time you use the app. Color me paranoid, but I suspect they are keeping a close eye on the activation server
There have been cases of closed beta's being pulled before for people sharing APK files, and I have a feeling it would not take long to shut this down if people start doing that.

Both of these were first 2 things I noticed/thought of when playing around with this app. Another thing, tho probably a lot more complex, would be options to tweak the route/routing algorithm. IE, avoid toll roads, stay on highway, avoid highways. If feasible, this would be a great enhancement!
Congrats on creating such a unique and useful app!

It requires GPS Signal to get your current position.
The internet connection e.g 3G/2G/HSDPA/WLAN... is used to calculate the route.
If you leave the route during navigation, the route will be recalculated. this also uses the internet connection.
A 100km long stretch takes about 50kb traffic.
I'm also a little concerned about the amount of data used.
As shown in the video, it is also able to use a 3D-map (used during night ect), is this map downloaded dynamically, or do you purchase a certain map (like western Europe)?
If possible I would like to buy a map once and for all, in order to save on data.

I agree. I've had a free 50gb from Box for a couple of years, but the lack of Sync makes it far less useful. Any use of that space is accomplished manually, which partially defeats the purpose.
Unless I'm missing something - is there a way to get Box files and folders to automatically update, upload, etc.?

I don't think so. You can of course save from a lot of apps on your 700 or other Android to the cloud, and access your files (provided you have some kind of data connection), but automagically... not with the app itself. I saw that an app I have been using for a loooong time with my own FTP server actually supports syncing... <blush>: FolderSync. Will give it a try.
Trial version ("only allows two accounts and has no sync filters or Tasker support" -- enough for testing Box ):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Full version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.full
EDIT: confirmed working! I really recommend FolderSync for its versatility and all the options it throws at you. Nice to see it actually works.
It works!! Thank you! I also noticed that Polaris Office can save/edit files on Box no problem.
This is a great offer, no strings from what I've been reading in their TOS and 3rd party reports. Seems they just started the offer and who knows how long they will. They do limit the file size per file though. So to move big files, then you have to pay.
One thing to keep in mind about this deal though, they offer zero warranty and zero guarantees of your data being secure. See item#14 of the TOS. But I guess you can't ask for much when it's free .

Thanks for the link - no, I wasn't aware of this, and it does look promising.
It looks like this would work for my phone, but I'll have to see if there's a Windows desktop equivalent. That's where it would be the most useful. I'm currently using IDrive to backup various files and folders on my desktop, in real time. I was able to get 15gb of free storage there, and it does do full sync, but I'd love to be able to do this with my 50gb of free Box storage. As I said, the main limitation with free Box is that it does not provide a sync function. If there's a way to enable this with a 3rd party application, that would be ideal.

Exactly - that's what I was referring to. Box definitely does do real-time sync, but you need one of their paid accounts for this.
I have mixed feelings about paying for cloud-based storage, and have taken a serious look at CrashPlan, SOS Online Backup, etc., to do a full backup of perhaps 300gb+ of photos and files. But I haven't convinced myself this is either practical, reliable, or necessary. I currently have a backup strategy with 2 duplicate internal hard drives, updated nightly, along with a similarly cloned external HD backed up weekly, and then stored off-site.

Everyone knows that feeling when someone asks to use your phone but you're afraid to let them because they can go through everything on it. This is a serious privacy issue within Android; there is no easy way to lend others your phone without them being able to go through it. That's why I created Obstructer, an app for Android that blocks access to your device's content when you let others use your phone. It works by disabling the home button, the recent app screen and the notification bar. This makes everything on your phone inaccessible until you enter a password that opens when the call is ended.
So tell me what you think, the link is below.

Thanks for the suggestion. Great idea!
It would also be nice to be able to monitor a remote phone (opening up the app to for parental monitoring for example).
This could be achieved by either allowing to :
- send a daily report by mail
- having a client app with data synced whenever a connection is avaialable
- sending data to a central server
...
anyway to export the data as .csv ?
Hello, thanks for app!

Heya! Congrats on making the portal. Good stuff you got there.
Here's some suggestions for the intro texts:
Part 1 - Current
"Do you want to know how do you use your smartphone?
You have installed this app, so the answer will surely be affirmative.
With this app you can know with what apps you lose your time; time which you could lose living your real life..."
Part 1 - Suggested
"Would you like to know how you use your smartphone?
Well, as you've already installed this app, that'll be an affirmative!
By gathering statistics about your apps with Phone Usage Monitor, you'll know where your precious time is creeping off to. Time you might want to spend on living your real life..."
Part 1 - Motivation
The second "do" doesn't really have a function in the first sentence and I made it a bit softer to make a more friendly first impression. I mentioned the app's name to remind the user what's going to help them (branding, be proud of your creation). I stayed true to your intention, the reference to 'real life', but made that a bit softer as well by using "might" and not mentioning a negative word like "lose". We're all winners here!
Part 2 - Current
"To let us know this information we will run a service in the background to monitor the use you make of your smartphone.
Quiet!, it will not consume more than a little bit of the precious battery of your mobile..."
Part 2 - Suggested
"You're probably wondering how much battery this app will consume. Don't worry, just a tiny bit.
Think about the time you will save after gaining all this usage intel. You won't even need as much battery anymore."
Part 2 - Motivation
Shouting "Quiet!" doesn't come across very friendly. There's also never a comma after an exclamation mark. I wrote the text to match the battery icon better. I'm also pushing the major goal of the app forward.
Part 3 - Current
"We will give you more information if you let us see how do you use the apps in your device..."
Part 3 - Suggested
"Sorry to bother you but I will need some usage access in order to provide you with all these awesome statistics. Is that okay with you?"
Part 3 - Motivation
"let us see" gives the impression multiple people or a company will be watching along, which totally isn't the case. I wrote it a bit more personal, fun and friendly.
Part 4 - Current
"Do not worry!
The data we collect is NOT sent anywhere."
Part 4 - Suggested
"Do not worry!
The data I collect is NOT sent anywhere."
Part 4 - Motivation
As in part 3, It's better to speak from a first person point of view, "I" instead of "we". It's just the app and the user, "you and me", which is a more comforting thought.
Instead of "START APP" I'd use something more vivid like "Lets go!" or "Show me some numbers!" or "Start saving time!"
The UDPA looks good, people are used to not reading these disclaimers and accepting them anyway. It's also a nice reminder that even if there is a "we", it's literally stating no personal data will be collected on any server. Kudos! :highfive:
I personally don't like the last paragraph but ah well, one has to make a living, right?
Looking forward to those stats...

I have answered your PM
hi, in my view for PRO version i would like to keep data live for 365days and to export them in csv in order to analize with spreadsheet or other stuff.
thanks
So this week, I've been looking at away of exporting my google content over to Huawei cloud and stumbled on to takeaway.google.com which allows me to select what google content of mine I want to export,
I've managed to download all of my photos and save to my device and now I've uploaded to my own cloud - Not sure if this is a commonly known thing but I would 100% recommend it, Depending on how many photos
you have depends on how many zip files it downloads it in.
But now that I have got years worth of photos I feel completely relieved!, however I am now tempted to take the offer on the 2048gb of storage which I think is good value for £60 especially as I can smash it on the wife's phone so that's £58.72 per year....going back to it, I'm hoping that this helps some of you recover your content of google drive and move it over to Huawei cloud.

Thank you for this, i didn't know about this but it sounds simple. How long did it take you and roughly how many photos and videos did it do?
Did you mean Takeout? Or is Takeaway something seperate?

photos wise it was a shed load to be honest, I would say the best part of around 10000 (wedding photos/travel photos/dogs) and video's must of been about 40 ish. it was quite simple really all you need to do is go on the site and select what content off google you want to put in a zip file and let it download.
super useful.

It's forgivable... Take away is the correct terminology anyway... Americans love to reinvent
This is a great tip thank you.

Good question to be honest. I would guess it would depend on the quality originally being uploaded to Google, I would imagine a broad application/usage based Cloud such as Huawei Cloud wouldn't have a need for compressing quality in the same way Google does with their Google Photos and just upload the file pure as is...
If anyone knows for sure then would be interesting to know...

Wow this is epic sounds like such as easy tool for data transfer especially coming GMS cloud storage to HMS software, I wish I knew about this when I did my data dump which consisted of download to desktop and upload to Huawei Cloud which wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.
