CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.
This is not LG's software, it's not based on it, nor is it compatible with it. Applications that require LG's proprietary Real3D framework will NOT work.
Why Almost CyanogenMod?: This early release is based off the current CyanogenMod code, but unlike CM its components aren't public yet, so you can not build it yourself. Since being able to roll your own is a core feature of CyanogenMod, I prefer to think of this as something close to CM, but not quite CM.

* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.

4. WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
5. Download the ROM into your SD Card
6. Install the ROM with the "Install ROM From SD Card" menu option.
7. Optionally install the Google Addon
HOW TO REPORT BUGS OR PROBLEMS?
- Was it a hard reboot? Go into recovery and dump the "/proc/last_kmsg" file.
- Was it a soft reboot or a "boot loop"? Run "adb logcat" and get send the full output.
- Pastebin links preferred
Please visit the CyanogenMod Wiki for step-by-step installation walkthroughs and tons of other useful information.

Known issues
HDMI is broken
3D stills (photos) are not working. Taking them crashes the Camera app, viewing them shows both frames side-by-side
Wireless Tethering works, but fails to stop. You'll have to reboot the phone after use
SK1 accidentally includes the OMAP4 Camera test app. Ignore it
SelfKANG1 can be downloaded here
thanks a lot. everything except the known issues are working so far! will test it out and report back
Hi all,
Reposting from another thread.
This is my feedback after 4 hours test:
Globaly :
This rom is very fast, just change the default launcher by launcher pro or Go launcher. Everything work for daily usage.
You can disable animation in displays etting and this CM7 will be very very fast!!
3D:
Camera quality is very poor, video and photo appear with lot of green color..
3D recording, photo and video, don't work for me.
No 3D games.
No 3D gallery and other 3D LG stuff.
you can play previously 3D video recorded with O3D with good quality in gallery but downloaded 3D movies appear sidebyside and no way to change 3D format.
3D photo appear sidebyside.
Bluetooth :
A2DP don't work fine with my car, I can pair devise and play music but DSP application will crash and music stop playing sometime (and replay by self)
Phone:
DSP application crash sometimes when you make call
I think they are all small issue that can be fixed soon.
Very good work Ricardo,you're best!
Sorry for my bad english

OK, I'll have to test it under windows. It works fine with Linux and OSX, so it's probably the usual problem with LG phones (the LG Mobile Drivers want a very specific USB layout)

I think Ricardo will fix that soon, there is an issue with Windows + LG USB drivers and this ROM or something, don't use Windows myself so not really sure what the problem is.

This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread. I've still included the various hardware-specific code, which seems to be slowly being open-sourced anyway.

This bulk of this PROJECT is still largely (overwhelmingly) the result of the efforts of cyanogen and team cyanogenMod.
I need to be crystal clear that I didn't do this by myself in a vacuum. This was a team effort. I'd like to thank cyanogen, who pointed me in the right direction when I had a false start and has now integrated this device project into cyanogenmod..
I'd like to thank Eugene, who got me started.
I'd like to thank the entire crew at irc channel #liberatedAria for helping so many noobs get started so I could do other stuff, but especially endeng, for building the first dev environment to follow and verify my process to keep my builds honest, and for helping jznomoney also build a dev environment and continue work while I was sidetracked. jznomoney did a ton of grunt work and some good guesswork to finish up and get a largely working ROM. Atlas gave me a clue after I needed one after not sleeping for a few days.

Nightly:
It's a beautiful thing: nightly builds from the cyanogenMod buildbot - these are builds against the latest cm code repository, are experimental and may not work. But it you want to look at the very latest, this is where you'll find it:

Non-standard disclaimer:
In order to use this ROM, you must have already installed clockwork recovery. If you manage to brick your phone with this ROM from there, you are a dumb ass of unimaginable proportions, and I absolve myself of any responsibility whatsoever. Further, any damage done to your phone with this experimental software is your fault and no one else's.
FAQ
Q. I bricked my phone/my signal sucks/my cat exploded since installing this ROM.
A. See the Non-standard disclaimer above.
Q. I can't seem to flash the rom successfully, and my Nandroid backups don't restore.
A. Do NOT start Clockwork recovery by powering down the phone with the USB port plugged in. Clockwork WILL NOT operate reliably that way. Power down the phone with the USB cord disconnected so that the phone powers off properly. Then start the phone by pressing and holding the vol-down button while pressing the power button to start. After diagnostics complete, you can enter Clockwork the proper way.
Q. I lost my 3g connection after I flashed cm6, now the icon just says "H".
A. You didn't lose 3g - the H is for HSDPA, which is enhanced 3g, sometimes referred to as 3.5g. It's a good thing, if you see an "H" where the "G" used to display - don't worry about it. Print this out for next time you head to the can: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Downlink_Packet_Access
Q. How do I keep my wifi from going to sleep every time the screen shuts off?
A. There is a hidden feature that disables wifi sleep.
menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > wifi settings > menu (again) > advanced > Wi-Fi Sleep policy > Never > menu > Save
However: although you can keep the wifi service from sleeping, the wifi driver will still sleep on it's own after detecting no bus activity for a period of time.
Q. Will this ROM support over or under clocking with Set CPU?
A. The kernel has been updated to support overclocking with SetCpu
Q. I can't get flash to work. What's going on?
A. Flash 10 is not supported by this CPU and AOSP Android does not support flash lite. Even if a hack allows installation of Flash 10, it's doubtful it will run very well.
Q. Where's the FroYo wireless hotspot?
A. It's in there!
menu > Wireless & networks > tethering and portable hotspot
Q. What's wrong with bluetooth? It doesn't work with my floozengadget.
A. Nothing. All bluetooth functions have been confirmed *WORKING* with compatible devices.
Q. But my floozengadget device is bluetooth compatible. What's wrong with bluetooth?
A. Nothing. Android AOSP bluetooth on the broadcom chipset is not compatible with every bluetooth device. Consistent compatibility issues have been noted with devices using certain parrott chipsets, certain automobiles with factory bluetooth including most Nissans, Volkswagons and an assortment of other devices and autos.
Q. Can you fix bluetooth so it will work with my floozengadget device?
A. No.
Q. Does the FM Radio work?
A. No, and there are no plans for FM radio support at this time.
Q. I miss HTC Sense. Can it be added to CM6?
A. No. HTC Sense is proprietary. Further, it is more than just a launcher and add on programs.
Q. But I really really really miss Sense. Can it be added to CM6?
A. No. And still - no. Yet - no.
Q. What's an ETA for the fixes and when will the ROM be finished?
A. No one gets a dime for this port, and no one works on it full time. It's a work in progress and as we make any significant breakthroughs, we'll update the ROM and post it. Sometimes I take time off from the project just to be a wise ass and beat on jznomoney. I don't know how any of this answers the question, but if it conveys an urgency to meet a schedule, then I recommend reading the answer over and over again until it doesn't.
Q. My widgets don't load or I am missing icons on the desktop or in folders.
A. The sdcard mounts late in the startup process - later than when desktop icons and widgets are loaded. This is a problem inherent in Android 2.2 and manifests itself when an application/widget is moved to the sdcard that has a presence on the Desktop. This is not a bug in this ROM, it's apps2sd in FroYo.
Q. If this is cyanogenmod, then how come it doesn't work exactly like it does on xyzphone?
A. Good question. I guess mostly because it's not an xyzphone.
Q. May I use your work and customize it and republish it?
A. My work is a small portion of this project. Ask cyanogen specifically about what you want to do and if he's okay with it, who am I to argue? Do not ever claim the work you are using as your own or fail to give cyanogen or his team credit for the project and my group credit for the device port or you will be on a lot of s-lists faster than you can hit your spacebar. I don't think cyanogenmod should be skinned up for redistribution.
Q. May I republish this ROM, giving proper credit?
A. Get permission first.
Q. Will you put out customized/skinned versions of this ROM?
A. No. This is meant to be a clean port of cyanogenmod for the HTC Aria, and nothing more. cyanogenmod is an awesome project, and I don't plan to detract from what it is in any way shape or form by customization. Once you install it, you are free to do whatever you like with it. You are of course also free to build flash-able skins and whatever mods you'd like to share.

figures my first new bug report would be a spelling correction in my post.
This is fantastic I'm flashing right now. To those asking about the camera, I can't really answer your question, but I can input this little tidbit; On the Clean Eclair ROM, the camera was functioning, but didn't handle colors properly, everything had a blue tint to it that led to the inversing of a number of colors (mostly blues with reds and vice versa), which led to some quite interesting photographs although that's not necessarily everyones cup of tea
Also take note, not all the colors you see there are a direct result of the camera, I use CameraFX for all those shots altering the color IT applied to the picture as well, although there were things I had no control over, i.e. the lighter pictured is red with a blue button, the actual lighter is red with a blue button.

The "wife" thing or the camera thing? Does the camera work? Stupid question..I guess everyhting is working, right?
Ok,
here is our new release.
Well... Here we are at last! Whole new ROM, whole new thread
For a long time we have been working to build the best possible version of HoneyComb to the Advent Vega. It has been a LONG road, with many hacks and pitfalls along the way. We started with the messiest set of files anyone has ever seen, and we have now progressed to this. Full-fledged, GPU accelerated, NATIVE, Honeycomb 3.2 on the Advent Vega.
There's no going back now. I'm so happy with this ROM that I'm actually going a little crazy with affection. There are still some bugs... Rebooting to CWM causes a stale boot, you have to hold power to turn the tab off, then on next bot you get CWM. Still no camera, bluetooth isn't working. But other than that... Well, I'll let you guys see for yourself.
On the speaker issue, I feel I must put a quick note here... We BELIEVE that the "Overheating speaker" issue is now resolved. Audio levels are now well within the safe limits, and voltages are back at what should be a very safe level. But as always, please be VERY careful, unfortunately we cannot be responsible for any hardware failures resulting from using a custom ROM, but we are very confident that this issue should now be totally resolved.
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b und 9n Update3 Features:
Update1+2 included
The clock and date issue should now been fixed for all
GPU RAM reduced to 96MB , more RAM for Apps
support for high Wifi channels like 12 + 13
new Honeycomb market
support for the soon coming GPS App included
Downloads, please choose the right Version (original ROM download is at the bottom of this thread!)! (or you Bootloop) :
Update 3 for Build9n: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n_update3.zip
Update 3 for Build9b: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9b_update3.zip
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b und 9n Update2 Features:
Fix for Bluetooth MAC addressing to hopefully make BT work correctly now.
Above fix should now also make WiFi considerably more stable.
Fix for people who were experiencing issues with the Market not being able to install apps.
Downloads, please choose the right Version (original ROM download is at the bottom of this thread!)! (or you Bootloop) Update 2 can be installed directly over 9n OR 9n-Update1 (it includes all of the Update 1 and Update 2 changes in a single package):
Update 2 for Build9n: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n_update2.zip
Update 2 for Build9b: VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9b_update2.zip
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b und 9n Update1 Features:
Working Deep Standby
Updated camera lib
Re-added App Drivemount
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9b Features:
•Coarse location discovery (based on WiFi connection) is now working correctly.
•Updated camera libraries to the latest version thanks to the development effort by many (including Eduardo and Redscorpion) over at MoDaCo. Google Talk video chat should now be working, as well as the stock Camera app. Other apps have been tested but there is a possibility that not all of them work (please test and let us know!), but we felt that it was more important for Gtalk to work as the camera isn't much use for actually taking pictures
•Added Eduardo's accelerometer patch. This should allow much more responsive accelerometer with no lag.
•Power management for bluetooth/wireless has been fixed. Hopefully this should stop them interfering with eachother when one is disabled.
•Screen calibration functionality built in to the kernel to calibrate on the fly.
•USB on-the-fly host/slave switcher integrated in to the kernel, this should allow switching between USB host/slave on the tablets side USB port without the need to reboot!
•Disabled device suspend when the tablet is connected to an active USB connection, preventing the USB connection from being severed.
•Added a brand new app called: Shuttle Tools which includes the toggles for the above two options. Allowing you to calibrate the screen or switch USB modes from within Android.
• Better language support then 9n, newer Gapps
• No apps are moved to data
• It have a bigger system partition then 9n, so when you have bad nand blocks, this could be work better for you
• When you use the Full Rom Installer you don´t need to flash ModdedstockV2 (Beware when you flash the new full rom it is like the ModdedStockV2 install, you loose all data)
• All future updates after this Full ROM will come as CWM update zip, so that your data are save
VegaComb 3.2 Build 9n Features:
Please be aware that although there was a "version 9" release on some German forums, this update was never integrated into the full build process, and was a side-project by rebel1 to acheive 2 goals. 1) To greatly increase the /system partition size (from 150mb to 200mb) and use that size to add larger apps that have increased language support for non-english speaking users. This build is unrelated to the previous "build 9" and as such has been labelled 9n (new, or newbe5, meaning that it has gone through the usual build and testing processes by myself), an alternate installer based on THIS build will also be provided by rebel1, including the expanded /system partition and enhanced language capability, this alternate build will be labelled 9b (bigger system, alternate build) and will be an nvflash installer rather than a CWM image.
•System image has been shrunk considerably, this should help people who have a lot of random lockups / install issues due to bad NAND blocks. Build 8.1 was using 149.5mb of the allocated 150mb provided by ModdedStockv2, Build 9n is only using 139.8mb allowing much more room to avoid bad blocks if you have them.
•Google Books has been removed entirely. It looks nice, but it's pointless as you can't even access the Store outside of the US. Install this manually if you want it for some reason.
•Google Maps and Street View have been moved in to /data to save space and because they can both be installed/updated from the market, so there is no need for them to be in /system.

•Added a brand new app called: Shuttle Tools which includes the toggles for the above two options. Allowing you to calibrate the screen or switch USB modes from within Android.
Current issues:
On rebooting to recovery, the tablet will "hang" on a stale boot. Hold down the power button until the screen goes completely off, and then power back on to get to CWM.
More? Probably! You tell us

Oh... I might have done some stuff too
Remember, this MUST be flashed over ModdedStock v2 or it will not work!
This is the one and only way to move to our image:
modstock -> data wipe -> vegacomb 3.2.
Dont ask for help if you dont follow this steps.
Download VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n.zip NOW! This is for all users that comes from an previous build like 8.1 or ModdeStockV2
For users that comes from my Build9 they can download and flash it with CWM recovery Download VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9b.zip HERE!
And the last file:
Download VegaComb HC3.2 9b Installer.zip HERE!
This is a windows installer for the 9b Full ROM, you don´t need to install ModdedStock before, it makes it all for you
We hope you enjoy VegaComb.

Very very speed rom..

This week, I'm going to receive my Advent Vega. I believe this is the best Honeycomb ROM available (better than Vegacomb 1.7), is it correct?
Thanks!!

Thank you gtablet gods!!!!
I must say i just installed it and its fast!!!
Faster then my gtablet on gtabletcomb 3.3.
OK so you vega gurus. whats the difference between advent vega/viewsonic viewpad 10s and the gtablet.
why can the roms be ingterchanable and whats the difference.
thanks for the roms guys, Now I dont have a reason to sell it.
youtube restarts itself when you rotate the screen.
Apps from market forcloses...
was using opera for a bit with some flash content, went to the home screen and went back to opera and the tablet resetted itself.
what do you mean by "Native App2SD has been added back in (is not present on 3.2 ROMS as standard)."
Does that mean we dont have to get the app2sd app?
I looked for the app2sd in the settings and is unable to find it.
can you please explain..??
I love it, thanks for your hard work.
awesome build
much much better than beta 1.7
thank you so much for that.
just one question, compare to 1.7, all icons look too big.
different resolution or different density?
I don't think we can change the resolution.
Thanks.
Edit: I use LCD density to make the icons smaller, got wifi error, after uninstall lcd density and reboot, no error.
aarrggg... I'm at work and can't get this till I get home.
5pm can't come quick enough now
Been playing with this since yesterday evening.
You can change the screen Res in your build.prop file. I'm on 140dpi at the moment, many people seem happy with 127
USB host mode doesn't work yet, hopefully not too far away
Everything is really fast. No lag at all. There are a few little oddities here and there but nothing too drastic. An amazing release really.
HDMI out is working? My TV didn't recognize it. Pretty fast. I set the density to 140. Looks better now. Thanks.

You need to hold power button until you see the power down menu, select recovery then it'll hang on reboot, hold the power then until the tablet is forced off and when you power back up, it'll boot into cwm recovery
could someone with an official dock please try and see if they can still connect usb peripherals on this rom, I know you can't directly until they fix it, but was wondering if it still worked via the dock. If so i'll buy one
thanks,

Hi there.
I have been running this for a few hours, i have got to say, its fantastic. So quick and smooth. I think i will be running vegacomb from now on.
Just curious about the keyboard, it seems very small. Is that the stock one for 3.2? No major problem just installed hackers keyboard.
Still not sure about the pixel density, but i can easy change that.
Love the first boot screen, should make it more difficult to bang out a vegacomb clone on ebay
Any tips on getting the accelerometer working properly with games?
Many thanks to you and TeamNewCo, this is a fantastic ROM
Legendary. This rom is awesome.

CM7.1 plays very nice with the aging D1.
Long time fan. Droid nightlies, and Eris unofficials before that.
Wouldn't consider a new device till at least a CM port is available.
BTW, CM7.1 also goes great with Kentucky Straight Bourbon ;-p

Great Work Man!
Actually just flashed this last night as soon as it came out for the OG Droid. I got my Droid 2 days ago, fixed the screen problem, rooted it with SOC,did factory data reset and flashed the CM. It is very stable and I love it! Now I'm just trying to figure out how to change the PRL,Radio, and S-off for the phone. Anyways...keep up the great work man,I support what you do fully and thanks for the great ROM's!
For the life of me, I can't get apps2ext to work (you know, where you have a second partition on your SD card and when you install apps, the files go there). It keeps telling me the SD card is blank or damaged or whatever and I can't mount it. I was told CyanogenMod had this feature built-in. Am I just completely retarded?

You are not retarded man,the Apps2SD is included in the CyanogenMod,not sure about Apps2Ext but it should work. Once you click the settings button a window should show up that has different options for Add,Edit,Manage Apps,Settings,Search,or More.Or you may click on Settings button and go to: >Settings>Applications>Manage Applications. From there you should be able to manage your apps or download the Apps2SD and manually do it. I can upload the file for you if you'd like it.Let me know bro!
So. The CM 7.1 camera app has problems closing if you use auto flash. The workaround is to use manual flash (on or off). Strange...

So, here is a random issue I have. I've paired my Droid with my head-unit. Now every time I turn on my car and activate Bluetooth, audio galaxy starts up and google music opens and starts playing. However, I just want to use Spotify. How do I disable auto music player?
Tried MIUI, unstable.
This one is much more stable, but Google maps crash randomly (without FC, it just quits and goes back to main screen).
Feel a bit sluggish compared with MIUI though. (MIUI's main launcher screen is silky smooth - even to the point of comparable to iPhone's interface), this one has slight jerkiness.
That said, so far everything else appear to be working fine.
I put ChevyNo1 kernel (LV 1100 in interactive mode). Still have issues with Google maps crashing randomly though. (I usually have cellular data turned off, so that may be the issue? I don't know).
I use CM7 on my Nook Color so the interface is more familiar to me than others.
EDIT: At this point, I am unable to use my camera. Don't know why, it was working before using this rom and this kernel. All of sudden, I am unable to use camera, camera app is force closing. I think I will try other roms and see.
Nevermind I figured it out...

GAMES work great
Hiya,
Just wanted to say that this ROM is the best for 3D (for me anyway). Been using GSF for a few months now and I gave up on angry birds (sluggy) and others.... Just put CM 7.1.0 and Angry birds workds like a dream
General UI (scrolling and oppening apps) it is slower than GSF (dunno why, maybe the theme?) But performance wise (once the stuff has been opened) it seems to run faster and thats what I want. Any chance of having a less heavy theme available?
WIFI - Works
CALLS - WORK
LATITUDE - works (even checks in automatically, never managed that on GSF)
GAMES - WORKS LIKE A DREAM
BLUETOOTH A2D - Works perfectly. Playing music with (andless, I love that prog, so easy UI and folder view ...)
So, basically, All good work guys I just wish for a less heavy UI

There is only so much that can be done with a 600mhz armv6 phone. Most of those gameloft hd games were designed for armv7 phones at around 1ghz, the blade is half that speed.
The interface can be sped up by turning on 16 bit transparency in cyanogenmod performance settings, that allows it to use more hardware acceleration for drawing the interface. It causes a few minor graphics glitches though. You can also replace the launcher, remove the theme chooser & do a few other things to speed it up.

see now gameloft games are designed for 1 ghz processor as you are saying
so basically without overclocking it should work on 1 ghz processor with switched off graphics or without any graphical setting
now in this mod we have got 810 mhz we can provide more vm maybe we could reach 900mhz in next kernel .we could enable graphics using blade buddy and we have 512mb ram which can handle heavier processes .we could reduce those 100mhz gap in running game using graphics ,,ram and other system properties

It's not just the mhz, armv7 processors are more efficient, faster at the same speed & provide more features. Some Gameloft games will run, but you shouldn't expect them all to run, or run well, they were designed for higher end phones.
If you are running a teamdrh rom with JB, or ICS with the 2.6.39 kernel, you can use a webcam and this hack to make skype video calls or take pictures/ record video with the stock camera app. I have tested this and it works great, skype calls are getting video and audio but i have only done a couple of five minute calls so I do not know if you will have the same luck with the MIC that I have had. on the stock camera app, if you "switch" from front to back camera, it inverts the video image, but video recording works, however on the stock app the MIC will cut off at around 10 seconds, but videolooks good, and pictures work too. All other camera apps I downloaded have worked as well.
REquirements:
1) a UVC webcam, which means compatible with Video4linux, or Video4windows, really most webcams work. The easy way if you buy one is to find on the box anything that says "no drivers/cd required." But check here: http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/#devices
I bought a $17 gigaware at radioshack, the cheapest one in the store.
2) You need to download this file:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4ltl2zYxU7yVTVnM1RzVlBNaUE/edit?pli=1
BUT EXTRACT AND ONLY COPY THE camera.tegra.so FILE INTO your tablet's /SYSTEM/LIB/HW folder, and reboot. If you copy the other stuff you might find that your device will NO LONGER BOOT!!!
3) Plug your webcam into the usb port and in terminal run these commands:
su
chown system.camera /dev/video0
chmod 660 /dev/video0
*If you download gscript you can enter these commands once, and then it is just a couple of clicks, WAY EASIER! they need to be entered everytime you plug the webcam in, and before you run a camera/skype app.
Enjoy, I am hoping some people will test this and confirm it works for them too, please!

There is a possibility that this already works on TeamDRH's ICS rom. The support has been added in the kernel awhile back but never been tested.
Thanks and much credit to rajeevvp!!!! I have gotten a webcam to stream video onto my gtab with DRH 1.3.2
Its kind've choppy, and a little blurry but works in a stable manner.
I am beggining to learn programming for android and trying to figure out a way to have any apps divert to my working video source instead of looking at the factory camera for a source. It seems it should be possible but I am just still too newb to Know any better.
If you would like to test this, then refer to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29457353&postcount=11
I have had success with a uvc compatibe webcam so far.
If you might have an idea as to how to trick the rom into looking at the usb port for its default video source I would like to know. Or if you can conclusively tell me that this is not possible I would like to know that too. My understanding is that there are two ways to approach this. One is to have the rom divert any frame capture requests to the usb video source as opposed to the original location. The other way, and probably more likely way, is to take an app like skype and hack it to go to usb for video, as opposed to the "stock camera location." Any insights would be very helpful. At least then, we could video chat with a small webcam, as opposed to no camera at all.
If this works for you, hit the thanks button on RAJEEVVP's post.

That binary source code may also work on other ROMs (Froyo-, GB-, or HC-based ones)--if the Android<->HW camera interface hasn't changed. (The binary, unfortunately, doesn't load on GB and HC.)
This is how it should've been done by nVidia in the first place. I had expected them or VS/Malata to write a kernel driver for their camera which implemented the standard V4L interface. Instead, they have a binary-only shared object which directly controls the camera HW in a completely opaque way. There's hardly any camera-support code in the official (2.6.32.x) kernels at all--I was very surprised when I looked into this some time back.
nVidia's HW is nice and all, but, from now on, I'm just not going to buy any more of their products if it relies on any proprietary blobs.

I found out I didn't have a dev/video0 folder. I created one but the camera fcs. Is ther supposed to be files in the video0 folder? I noticed in the audio folder there were several files. I am running DRH ICS 1.3 It didn't have the camera app installed since it didn't work anyway.
Any help would be appreciated. I restored the camera app with Ti from an earlier backup.
Thanks
btw: Thanks to all who got this working. I've been looking for something just like this.
Um, /dev/video0 is only created after you plug in your camera. You do not create this yourself. If your camera is UVC compatible, then after it is plugged in you should have /dev/video0 on the stock rom with no modifications! Did you check the link to see if it is listed?
These terminal commands give the camera permission to use the camera apps, along with the camera.tegra.so file. But, a totally unmodded rom will give /dev/video0 if your camera is compatible, because TEAMDRH already included the needed drivers. download the app "usb host controller" and open it after you plug your camera in. under the USB tab, does it register or list your camera? If so, then google your webcam, not the brand name, but the brand that is listed under "usb host controller" to see if it is UVC. My camera is a Gigaware, but under usb host controller it is listed as an MSI Starcam.
This positively works for me, but I have been waiting for anyone else to tell me it worked for them too so I can confirm. I am happy to help, because I want this to work universally as it should so it is a viable option.
Thanks

It works. I haven't actually taken a pic or video yet, but I got a picture. I'm using my Logitech 270 HD webcam and the picture looks great. This is what I've been waiting for. I downloaded the free version if Camera ICS off the Play store. May have to buy it. The older stck camera app still FCs but the ICS one fired right up. Now I'll have to make my script.
Thanks a great deal... :good::good:
On a fresh install of the JB alpha, if you swipe left on the lockscreen instead of right, the camera app pops up, if you do a factory reset, then it will be in your app drawer!
I am so glad to hear it works for someone else.
TO use video recording or skype video, any video, you have to swap from the front to back camera. It shows an inverted image, but when you play back a recorded video, it is proper, also skype might be inverted but it looks right on the other end. I do not know why this is, but it works!!
***To clear up any confusion, the terminal commands only need to be entered once, after the camera is plugged but before you try to use any camera apps. They do not need to be re-entered until the next time you plug your webcam in, or restart the tab. With the gscript, you can put a shortcut on your homescreen, and the process becomes: plug cam in, tap one button, then load camera app or skype, etc!!
I can confirm it works with ICS Beta 1.3.2 (using the Camera ICS app). Camera, and Skype work just fine!
At last, my gTab is complete again! (well... almost...).

I'll have to pass: Not enough free time. Besides, it looks like someone's already working on it--I'll just be stepping on their toes.
Random newbish question
would this be able to work on other tablets as well? albeit slightly modified and what not... i've been thinking of integrating a dell streak 7 into my dash and an external web cam would be a neat back up cam
Im gonna guess no, but it is possible. YOu need a kernel with V4l2 support, and a file like this to direct the rom to communicate with it. I know nothing about dell streaks, but if you ask a developer of the rom you're using to look at Borkata's github source you might get a solution, but I really do not know.

Thanks, I figured that because the dell streak is a tegra 2 board, it wouldnt be too difficult, but i am definatly not a dev of any sort
I've tried this with on a gTablet, testing both G-Harmony & SmoOther Beam 4.1.2, but I haven't been able to get it working.
I'm testing it with a Microsoft HD-6000 webcam. Any suggestions on where I might look to determine if the problem is related to the ROM/approach, or the hardware?
I've already checked the UVC compatibility page. Unfortunately it's a bit out-of-date, and the HD-6000 is not yet listed, yet the sister HD-3000 is listed as supported.
Thank you in advance for any ideas!

First, see if this Webcam test app works.
