It there a file size limit for the boot animation on Xoom?
i have created bootanimations upwards of 28 mb. myself and a few others have been trying to see where bootanimations will cut off, so far fish has gotten one up to 248 mb with 14 parts (part0 - part13) and it runs way longer than it takes for the os to boot.
past that, i dont know, we havent gone that far yet.
here's the link if you want to check out fish's giant BA.

ok thats good, making one myself, was afraid that id go through all the hard work of making it then it be too large. mine has over 572 frames so its gonna be large lol

like T.mobile ore iMate?
well...starting from original shipped rom you can "extract" the original boot screen....(i made it with core kitchen tools)...and made a new .nbf with [original?] images

cool I should look up the process to extract it from the original rom that T-mobile has before changing it
thank you for the heads up. you don't happen to have the extracted files still with you do you ?
There's tools for creating all the splashscreens in in the Core kitchen. You have to create either a 240 x 320 .bmp or a 320 x 320 .bmp image, name the 1st screen splash1.bmp and the 2nd one splash2.bmp and then run the converters for each. I haven't actually gotten around to trying this out yet, but I know the grafics for the images can't be excessive or it won't work, and if you use the 320 x 320 image size you have to shift any image to the left 60 pixels that you want to have centered. The 320 x 320 size is supposed to be for when you reboot your phone in landscape mode as if anyone does that anyway. When you reboot in portrait then using the 320 by 320 it cuts off the right 60 pixels to fit your screen. It's easier to just use 240 x 320, that way you know exactly what you're getting.
Well, i finally got it to work. thanks for the info. Main issue was splash screen 1. thanks again
I decided to go ahead and try it out for myself too. I've made a few welcomehead.96's for myself, I just never got around to designing a couple of splash screens for the first 2 splashes. I've spent the last couple of hours though working on my images that I want. Hopefully it works as easy as I think it will.
lol. yeah, i spent more time on making the rom work than the graphics to personalize.
Wow, now I can see where you would have problems with the first screen. I've been redoing it over and over trying to get it small enough to work. I'm just about ready to put just the HTC logo back on it and say forget it.
Instead of that, save the one you want as a bmp. then resave as a gif. Open it up then save as a bmp, you may lose a little quality, but the compression will get you to the size you need. then the second one can be the quality that your original was. thats what i had to do. LOL.
Thanks, I'll try that. I've already redone it 6 times and nothing else I've tried so far has worked.
That worked!! Thank you very much nottoosmart, I would have never even thought to do that. I greatly appreciate your help.
just cross my mine,

i feel jealous that they have 72 MB for programs, can we do something similar ? like cut 10 MB from the storage and add it to the programs ( like they did in PDA2k) ....
what you all think about it ?
The memory structure of the Wizard is different and doesn't allow us to do that.
the AT&T tilt has 256 MB flash memory

yeah, now when i think about it - people thought about it before me , i feel it's like a stupid question
Well since we're on this subject... Has anyone been able to figure out a way to take the extended Rom space effectively turn it into free memory? Most new Roms don't utilize that space in any way at all. It just kinda sits there. Kinda like a "Big Storage" Rom if anyone knows what I mean?
That's an interesting thought dlharvey.

Well that's what I was thinking. I personally do not have a wizard anymore because of an unfortunate toilet accident... Don't ask, it's embarrassing.
BUT... I plan on getting another one eventually and I think that a "Big Storage" Rom is something that might be possible and if it is, then I think all new wizard Roms should be so since they do not use an extended Rom.

Well if you do the math, you have 128 megabytes of ROM on the device and most Roms are what? 5X megabytes? that should leave us with 6X-7X megabytes of space left over but you don't. It's more like 4X-5X Megabytes so the Extended Rom space has to be around 10-20 Megabytes and to have that as extra space to install apps would be ideal since I have not come across a Rom that utilizes the extended rom space to date with the exception of faria's...
X symbolizing the ones position in a 2 digit number: IE: 5(0)
well, i'm sure there is something we can do. the PDA aint much different than the HTC, and they did the same trick on the PDA2k
I'm currently working on a newer port of Just2Clean. That's not the important part, though... the image is stored in a different type of compression that, although makes the cooking process longer and a bit more complicated, may yield HUGE space savings.... so hopefully, if all goes well, you might see the first 70mb free... I might even create a "crippled" version just to see how much free space I can make.
This is going to be a 19213 build. It will be released and shortly after, Just2Stuffed will be released. Hopefully, even though it will have all kinds of useful apps, it will STILL be great with storage.
The picture is from a test. It's no where near complete. It's a SYS-19203 and a XIP 19199. It's fully functional except for the missing task manager.
EDIT: Now I'm running a new build. For some reason my XIP and SYS numbers didn't change... but anyhow, I'm getting 69.50MB free (72.12mb total) and 32.13mb RAM free (51.81 total)
Damn! 70mb?? never thought id see the day. Anticipation is a Bit*h!
How Long
No rush, im Joking
but I'm absolutly Intrested, in this Rom with 70mb free.
I'm waiting on this.
Ghostrider
Just2Clean zcink edition is the best rom on the market. The only thing I can think of to improve on it is if you increased the Storage to 70mb. Totally Awesome!
Updated with a screenshot.
Also, it seems as if Aserg's done this before, too. Of course, if it's incredible, I almost expect out of him, of all people.
Stunning. I guess it won't take long until you reach the physical capacity of the ROM in the phone
out of curiousity, why isn't the physical capacity of the phone ROM reached?
it has 128MB ROM right? So what's eating the other 50+ MB of the phone? Could it be 50MB+ of firmware? If so... are we treading dangerous waters by slowly creeping up on the low level phone firmware?
EDIT: Now that I think about it... its probably the actual ROM thats taking up the 50+MB..... Just a little confused as to why it wouldn't say 128MB total, 60MB used or something like that. (instead of subtracting the OS memory from the total memory)

128MB ROM
The ROM is subdivided into multiple parts. Those parts are the following:
The SPL (Think of it as the OS's bootloader.)
The IPL (Think of it as the BIOS.)
The Radio (The "firmware" that controls how a phone talks to the network.)
The Primary Splash (The first image you see when you turn on the device.)
The Extended ROM (Where providers store cabs that are automatically installed whenever you hard reset the phone.) [Format: TFAT16/12]
The OS. (Obviously, the Operating System. This is what most of you will touch.)

Oh no. This is just my Just2Clean ROM made in a special way... let's just say that it's made on coals instead of a gas oven... it takes longer to cook but it tastes better.
I'll be teaching everyone how to do it once I get to that lesson in the classroom.

I saw this animation and went nuts! I think this would be really rad as a boot animation and even a live wallpaper. It is really just a series of gif files right? I wish I had better knowledge of flash and gif animations like this but I do not. YET! Until then, anyone want to tackle this? I will donate to whoever pulls this off. =) If you read this and think, "I know of this really cool Zombie/dead/grave animation." Post it! I know there are a lot of requests for bootanimations etc. sorry for adding to the mess, but I am really excited about this! Thanks for reading!

The animation is a bunch of .PNG files, 1 for each frame, so there could be quite a few of them for that anim. You'd need to find the source and resize it to something more appropriate. Being that it's a 4:3 animation you'd have some issues making it a resolution so that it looked good on the 10:16ish display

kc.rkitek actually made the original robot (i just learned that). I got it off a buddy and modded it.
The zombie I posted was actually the 3rd version. In the first on I flipped the colors (but didn't resize), second I resized (and flipped colors), However, the zip ended up being 20mb! not only could I not upload it here (8mb limit) but it lagged the boot up. So I said F it and just did it how I should have in the first place...

I was able to flash it on mine but the resolution was off. But that is a bug in the rom itself, But I did get a successful boot
i read about this on the portal. about 60 - 70 percent of this is buggy and non working. need to wait til all the bugs are worked out and fully ported b4 using.

As we speak the devs should be getting the screen resolution right which will probley make it work for everyday normal usage once thats all worked out
the 60-70 percent being non-functional is a load of BS.....besides the resolution, the main thing that ISNT working is the camera/gallery. Nearly everything works. The dev's are very hard at work in the DHD section trying to fix the resolution, and once that is done, it will be a mostly stable rom.
I had it on my Inspire yesterday for a few hours, it was very fast and smooth for the most part. The LockScreen will be one of the most notable improvements to the Sense UI - IMO
I'm about to buy an Inpsire, and this makes my purchase seem so worth it lol. Can't wait until all the bugs are worked out!
Just flashed this. It booted but I couldn't get past the lock screen. Says something about dragging a ring but a can't see a ring or manage to unlock it in any way.

I have been running it for almost 16 hours now, and have been following all of the development threads on the DHD forums. I would say no, they don't know what they are talking about. Besides the HTC widgets and anything dealing with Rosie.apk, most everything else has the correct resolution.
And what i don't understand is why SOOO many people are flashing this rom without even reading a single page of the thread. It is an alpha. It has been asked thousands of times how to get past the lockscreen. On the first boot, you will have to call yourself to get it unlocked. Then you need to go to personalize-lock screen and choose a different lockscreen that has icons on the bottom. To open the lockscreen from there on, drag an icon to the bottom of the screen.
What i don't understand is why no dev's from the Inspire section are teaming up with capy on the DHD forums to help out and get it ported. They are really having a hard time finding the code to get it to scale correctly. We have a lot of talented people over here, and all the development is public on that thread...i wish i was smarter so i could help out
