after that pick a rom and you will have root

First read, search, look up. Try searching "nvflash recovery"

If you are updated with gingerbread, and just want root.. Flash the clockworkmod with nvflash like they suggested, really easy steps for it.. Then go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
[ROOT] G2X Gingerbread 2.3.3. stock ROM with flashable zip in Clockworkmod Recovery
And download the root and unroot zip files, the unroot just incase and then flash the recovery, flash the root zip. And you have yourself official gingerbread update with root. And not those buggy roms that are updated everytime

No, you cannot flash another ROM without being rooted. If you ran LG's updater than CWM has been replaced with the stock recovery.
Root again using NVFlash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...hlight=nvflash
Once you're rooted, the rooted version of 2.3.3 that can be flashed in CWM can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1179748

Nope, no root yet, they are working on it and are very close, they have this thing called "nvflash" but its VERY high risk and might leave you with a nice brick.
Yes we have root. You first have to flash Clockworkmod Recovery with NVFlash. NVFlash is not dangerous and very safe if you follow the instructions by TGA_Gunman exactly as written and use his one-click recovery installer program. After flashing Clockworkmod Recovery then download the flashable zip package and install it using Clockworkmod. The thread with the rooting zip is below.

[GUIDE] Flash CWM, ROOT and install a custom ROM on your G2x Gingerbread 2.3.3

So you have your brand new LG G2x and have heard about this rooting and flashing thing but don't know where to begin. When I first got my G2x I had a hard time trying to learn how to root my phone, flash it with CWM and flash a custom ROM onto it.
I couldn't find a thread specifically showing me how to do all of this with the G2x Gingerbread 2.3.3
Well, I have put this thread together to help those out there like myself that were lost. I have gathered all the links with the directions you need to follow to successfully root and flash your phone!
So let's being!
These directions are to flash the ROM Cyanogenmod7 onto your phone. They can also be used to flash any other ROM, just download the rom that you want after doing Step 1 and 2, then follow the directions in Step 4 to flash the ROM.
1) Flash ClockworkMod via NVFlash by following the directions in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
After flashing your phone with Clockworkmod, make a backup by booting into ClockworkMod recovery mode, then going to backup and restore. In case something were to go wrong, or you want to flash your phone back to stock rom, you will have the backup available.
2) Do this step if you want to keep your stock Gingerbread but want your phone Rooted. If you want to install a custom Rom, you can skip this step since custom Roms are already Rooted. Root your phone by following the directions in the following link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255214
3) Download the latest nightly build of ROM Cyanogenmod7 here, or download another ROM from the G2x Android Development
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=p999
4) Follow these directions to flash the ROM onto your phone. Make sure to "Wipe Data" in Clockwork Recovery mode before flashing the ROM.
http://theunlockr.com/2011/05/03/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-t-mobile-g2x
5) If the ROM you decide to flash doesn't come with the google apps, like Youtube, Market, Maps etc. You can download the .zip for the google apps here. Just flash the .zip from Clockwork Recovery mode.

CM7 comes with AWDLauncher, but if you find the menu a bit laggy, you can try out AWDLauncher EX from the android market.
I take no credit for the work done by these people, I simply put all of the links in one place.
Mods and Admins, if this is in the wrong section please don't ban me
I saw other Guide threads on here so I think this is the correct section to post this in.

Moving from ICS Alpha11 to Official?

Hi,
I'm currently using Koush's ICS Alpha 11, I've downloaded the official 4.0.3 version and tried to rename it "update.zip" and flash but it fails.
I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Did you go back to stock 2.3.6 and flash in stock recovery
BEST DAMN PHONE BECAUSE WE HAVE THE BEST DAMN DEVELOPERS!
Oh, so I should download this:
Android 2.3.6/GRK39F/UCKF1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader
Official, signed, can flash with ClockworkMod or stock recovery. Contains recovery, radio and bootloader.
... rename it to update.zip and then back into CWR and then ICS?
Download stock 2.3.6 and flash it you will loose clockwork mod.you have to do this to apply the official
Rename it to update.zip
In fastboot mode go to recovery and select it with your power button
When you see the android question mark hold up and power again
Choose apply update.zip and bam your done
I forgot get voodoo ota root keeper from the market and run it before flashing the stock rom
Good luck and keep ne posted

Can't seem to find FULL stock 2.3.6 for nexus S, some links floating around the web are just the update packs (around 12mb), not full.

There's a stickied post right here on the forums (this forum, in fact). It has every OTA released.

You do not need to go back to stock recovery. Do it all from cwm recovery.
Full wipe and flash the 2.3.6 from
Flash the ota file.
Reboot. The reboot into the os will flash the stock recovery

Hey guys, I'm in a similar situation too, I'm on Carbon ROM and I was waiting for a Stock update. So is there any way that I can update and keep the root? Because I think when I'll flash the stock 2.3.6, I'll lose root.
ok so I went back to 2.3.6 stock, and susprisingly I didn't lose my root/cwr or anything, then I went into recovery again and tried installing update.zip (which is ICS official stock) but the same error:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
When you go back to stock you need to do a wipe.

I did wipe partition as well as cache. let me try again though.
Format everything but sdcard. Flash the official 2.3.6 T-Mobile rom. Flash the official ota update for said rom and your good. You would have to have a the 9020t model of course

How do I format? from PC? delete everything from the mounted usb volume?
From cwm recovery. Mounts and storage. Just DONT format your sdcard. Your backups are there.

I don't have clockwork anymore. I see limited options now, and the title on top is "Android System Recovery <3e>", but I do see an unlock icon when the phone boots.
You need to reflash clockwork from fastboot. When you load a stock os it overwrites the recovery

I have no clue how I did it couple months back, can you please point me to a guide that shows how to flash cwr on 2.3.6? many thanks
What rom that is on the phone does not matter . You just need to get your phone recognized on a computer with fastboot. Then flash the recovery from there. Or just boot the recovery directly from fastboot.
