heres trinity, its the fastest out there. and depending which version you pick, its also the best on battery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12931657&postcount=1

Also Netarchy, or matr1x are awesome kernels.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

Can those be used on stock ROM? As I said, I just unlocked the bootloader and flashed superuser. No custom ROM as I like the stock already.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium

I would recommended netarchy for stock rom. He has builds specifically for stock roms and it is extremely stable and fast.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220393Yennob Base 1, tiny undervolt.
Stock with a slight overclock to 1.2ghz plus a tiny undervolt. I use 'base 1, tiny undervolt'. There are options for user volts also. Perfect for stock, ones that don't need all the extra jazz.

Matr1x by mathkid95 is quite a spiffy kernel. It has BLN, Voodoo color and sound, under/over volting and under/overclockability. Battery life is quite impressive as well.

there is no best rom out there because what 1 person may like the other person may not ya digg
so my advice to you would be just try them all till you find 1 you like
Here comes 20 posts about cm7 >_>...
Thanks for the info I do understand that and I guess I'm looking for other combo's Rom and kern. That work well together. But I will try others.

I think I may have opened a can of worms. I did read about cm7 and see pros and cons. I have been looking at leedroid's Rom. Mudknot I would like to thank you for your guide very nice. Do you have any recommendation's?

As doo doo said and I have said in other threads, there is no "BEST" rom. They all are good in their own right, and all of them have their downfalls some more then others.
I have flashed all of them, and I like some more then others. Honestly its all personal preference.
Leedroid for stability and battery with all the features working. CM 7 for the stock feeling but has terrible drain TERRIBLE
I like the sense ones.
However I almost always return to a stock. The best to me are stock with all the bloat ripped out. There is no need to OC yet as the phone is plenty fast. Maybe in 4 or 5 months. /Shrug
I've been using RCmixHD for quite some time and I love it. They just realeased a new rom with SENSE 3.0 and it's beautiful. This latest rom is quite new and there are some improvements that I know will come with some time.
As everybody here will tell you, you will need to experiment and make your own decision on which is best for you.
Stock and Inpired Ace for me.
I am loving team phoenix's new rom. Takes the best of cm 7, + lord mods smartass kernel and makes a very smooth and battery efficient offering.

I really like RCMix Kingdom ROM. It is a work in progress, but sense 3.0 is pretty sweet in my opinion. But like others have said, it all comes down to your own personal preferences. Have fun with it and just go flash crazy lol
I'm loving konikubs elite 3 and kings cocoa 2.

I'm liking Android Revolution right now, but I'm just getting into this whole thing of flashing and what not. I had CoreDroid before, but just found it a bit too complex/too many options for now. Android Revolution to me seems somewhat like stock, but just better optimized. But I plan on trying some other ROMs out there, looking at some of the RCMixes and maybe LeeDroid's

The only reason you would get flamed is if you posted this in the development section. Good job you posted your question in the right section.
According to Samsung they are rolling out the GB update to handsets in Europe (Galaxy S I9000) and based on their "Regional Plan" everyone else will be getting it as well.
That's a vague as it comes, but that's the latest from good 'ol samsung.
Oh cool thanks I was just wondering because before I bought this phone I was gonna get the nexus S but I wanted 4g so I got this but been hoping for a gingerbread rom I mean every other phone has it except this one wich is kinda gay

im a little naive when it comes to GB and havent read up on it. But, I was wondering what so good about a GB Rom? I would think people would want more Custom Roms than a samsung release.
would anyone like to share the differences between Froyo and GB?

Gingerbread's biggest plus is that it's got far better battery optimzation than Froyo.
In an attempt to compare apples to apples - Froyo Battery Life on my SGS4G and a 3500mAh battery is about 2 days.
In comparison, a MyTouch 4G on a 1400mAh battery and Gingerbread is about 2 days.
Both are used similarly.
Sgyee, mt4g battery life on gb is not 2 days its the reason i kept thesgs4gand gace the mt4g to my gf. Mt4g w upgraded battery to 1500 mah and not much use (few calls and texts) with set cpu running on demand is about 11hours. Thats w newest gb build, kernal and radio. The sgs4g battery tho 1650 mah is alot better w more use.

Getting a Nexus S 4G, any advice?

Hi, all. I currently have an Epic 4G. But it is broken, (mic and phone speaker don't work at all) so I am entitled to a warranty replacement. This was an Asurion replacement so I talked to them. I asked them to give me a Nexus S 4G instead and I got it without too much problem. The rep I was talking to said he couldn't do it but his boss said yes without hesitation (maybe I should have asked for an Epic Touch 4G instead and seen what happened but I digress). If I am lucky the phone will arrive tomorrow but probably the next day.
Anyway, I am hoping that I can get some advice on this phone. How to root it? What Roms/Kernels are the best. Ect.
Thank you very much!
About which roms or kernels are the best, there's not an easy answer to that. Being the developer phones, the nexus line has a lot of people working on the source. This is good and bad, because there are a lot of cool things you can get on your phone, but a lot of stuff will not work. Often times there will be a tradeoff between getting bleeding edge updates and having a stable system.
That being said, NANDroid backup is your best friend. Before every flash, backup your entire phone's state. Then if nothing works, restore your backup and it is like nothing ever happened.
Well to start off, and always a good impression, is to search for the first request. Shouldn't be hard to find a thread about rooting a NS4G or a YouTube video. Just looks better on you.
As far as ROMS go, well Cyanogenmod is a well respected name in that realm. Also you could pick from any of the other hundreds of ICS Roms. Just make sure you get it from the Nexus S "4G" forum.
Dig around in the forums. Shouldn't take long to find a thread with the topics you are asking about.
Good luck and welcome to the Nexus club.

Best ROM hands down is gummy nexus. I promise you, you WILL not find a better ICS ROM for the NS4G. The kernel baked into the ROM is Mathkids 14.5 and works great.

And the is currently a one click root method in the NS4G forums. Check it out.

Unlock boot loader as soon as possible because it will erase everything on your phone including SD card.
As far as ROMs you've gotta use a ICS ROM. There's lot of great GB ROMs but you're not getting a Nexus to be stuck on last year's OS. CM9 Is currently my favorite. Lots of other ROMs have more tweaks like quad and octo locks but CM9 is the smoothest for me. But try em all, why not?
As far as kernels there are a lot of good options. Personally I like Steve Garden's latest. Has the best colors without using Voodoo so there's no annoying green flash when locking. But again, try em all!
Oh... and how to root? Well, it's basically "fastboot oem unlock" "fastboot flash recovery whateverrecoveryyouchoose.img" and flash the SU binary in recovery. Or just flash a ROM.
*if you didn't wipe /system and /boot it is NOT A FULL WIPE* (relax, it's a signature)

Agreed 1millon % that's what I run. Can't find anything better. Rom is super stable and battery life is insanely good.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
It is all depend on how much budget you have. If you have a high budget, I would say look at the Galaxy Nexus instead. Otherwise, the normal Nexus S is good enough. There aren't many 4G carrier available, and you won't need 4G in daily life.
I come from an epic. No regrets whatsoever. The only wins the epic has over the ns4g are the better camera, and speaker. Also the epic seems to get better 3g and 4g reception. Other than that everything else is so much better. Development included.

Great read! I too am a new comer here, coming from the misfit phone Droid X2, which was a decent phone, but with no unlockable bootloader, will never reach its potential, but we had great devs that made some decent roms with what they had. But anyways I'm really liking this phone so far, & with unlockable bootloader & so many roms, I'm feelin all goody like a fat kid in a candy store! Lol And seems like a good community here

GummyNexus is good, I just don't like the visual changes. I would go with Bigxie's ICS Rom. That, combined with the Matrix 14.5 kernel set to lulzactive is perfect. 9 hours unplugged and I was at 86%.

oICS v43 is good too, but I am thinking of giving gummy another try. I've been hearing that it's doing quite well and oICS hasn't been updated in awhile(although it is reportedly still in development.)
great phone! im coming from a evo 4g and didn't want to use my upgrade so I bought this phone off ebay. Loving it so much. I think I'm stuck on nexus phones from here on out (^_^)
Yeah advice is get an epic touch lol better phone. Better battery. But its not free like the nexus is right now. My advice, get free nexus from sprint online and then just grab the galaxy nexus when it drops later.

Its a great phone the screen does take up alot of juice though I get around 2-4 hours of screen on time right now I'm running cyanogenmod 7 alpha 10 (does not have an official build another downer) with Faux's latest 2.9 kernel. cpu clocked at 1700 mhz and gpu clocked above 300 mhz (every once in a while i check out trinity's kernel which also runs smooth too) its running damn smooth there is also alot of ice cream sandwich development but I'm waiting until the get everything working. FWIW the manufacturer actually rates the Qualcomm 8260 as a 1.5 GHz processor..so technically HTC just underclocks it. 1.5 is perfectly normal, although I am a little concerned as well because I noticed my finger felt on fire the screen was so hot earlier today. Your best bet at this point might be stock, OC/UV, or bust sadly

Well if you really don't want third party apps then just install kernel via aroma installer and select something around 1200MHz I know you can at least do that with bricked kernel
Sent from my sensational sensation 4g
not really the answer you are looking for, but I just want to tell you that it makes no difference whether you underclock it to 1ghz yourself or if the original kernel is set at 1ghz. They will both consume the same amount of power. I think the best way to approach this is to underclock it yourself to 1ghz and UNDERVOLT with system tuner. my sensation is stable at 1.02ghz @ 937.50mV
Thanks guys for all of your help. I just went back to Gingerbread and I guess i'll just have to wait until official ICS...again, thanks.
