Few questions - HTC Sensation

Hey.
I got my HTC sensation few days back..
1. I installed starfront: Collision but I cant play it because the buttons (ok and back) are off the screen!!!!!!! Any solutions?
2. ROM question - currently im running on Android Revolution HD.
Im considering Leedroid, InsertCoin, Pyramid 3D Neon.
On ARHD my battery life is pretty bad. Do any of the above roms have better performance/battery? And any personal recommendations regarding kernels?

Regarding the app, I don't think you will find a fix, maybe try a reboot..
For the ROM, it depends if you want a themed ROM or not. If you like themed, I would definitely give CoreDroid a try. And the kernel, from my experience anything other than stock right now causes bad battery drain.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

Ive tried reboot, Ive tried spareparts. Neither one works. If anyone has a solution please let me know..
About the rom, I want to hang with sense a little more. When I get bored ill definitely give coredroid a try! Thanks

so many roms, what to choose?? LOL

So im looking at the dev section of the sensation and there are just so many freaking roms out there it's crazy LOL
I started with P3d for a bit, and now just flashed the android revolution 3.5, but man oh man, there is just so much out there i really don't have a clue where to start, i just want a stable rom that gives me the best battery life that has everything working........ P3d did it but now im really leaning towards CM7 which i ran on the evo for like ever.
anyone else feel overwhelmed? and trust me im not complaining
it's not bad
you should see the galaxy S forums, there's at least 30 ROMs around.
So far the most popular in no particular order, are:
CM7
LeeDROiD
Revolution HD
InsertCoin
CoreDroid
Heard good things about bulletproof.
Couple threads on this already:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254071
I've tried Virtuous until version 1.1.3, then I tried Revolution HD and Leedroid. I have even tried the Bliss 3.5 Sense port and it was very nice and stable even though there were some bugs to iron out. Now I'm back to Virtuous and the 2.0.1 XE is stunning. Probably the best one I've tried so far, just need to check the battery performance. But I would guess all ROM's are fairly equal, some are better in one area and some are better in another, just need to choose one that suits you the best or just try until you find the best one I guess
Bulletproof while not getting many mentions in most of these threads has awesome tweaks other roms lack. Like the option to customise the "personalise" button, and the option to make the app draw scrolling instead of paged. There are more tweaks than that and its worth a look.
Basically romanbb has made the Sense equivalent of cmparts.
Still cm7 is faster than flies on **** on this phone but its a little buggy for some people at present. Its good enough as a daily driver on 4g Sensation phones, most of the issues are related to calls dropping on 3g units.

I only know the Revolution HD which is my first root/custom firmware. Is there somewhere an overview with all the pro's and cons of the different firmwares?

Coredroid FTW!!! Its very well put together and skinned so cleanly and elegantly and runs smooth as silk
I'm running Android revolution, as it is the only ROM I've tried. Battery life seems not much different than stock, if not worse to me.
First you have to choose between a sense rom or a no-sense rom.
I'm using CM and it's already super stable but if you prefer having sense than you have to go somewhere else
CM7 or something with sense... like stock.

Android Revolution HD is also very stable. On stock rom, Sense would restart on me atleast 3 times a day. With ARHD, Sense has not once yet restarted on me. Granted I've been running ARHD for about 2 days now, but this time span still shows very much improvement over stock rom.
I can only comment on what I have used which was LeedDroids rom at first for a couple of weeks then I tried Bulletproof. BP is so much quicker and had alot less stuff (able to remove stock apps with bloater too) that I didn't use with many more unique tweaks that were useful for me. Romanbb has made a fantastic rom, its well worth a try.
till now i only used the revolution rom , which was my first ever room on my sensation.
i can say that i feel some kind of difference in the speed but not in battery life.
im looking for a better rom now , as i look for a sense interface.
+1 Bulletproof - Tweaks did it for me
Android revolution hd is the best right now!!!!

"Sense Rooms" mean that you still got your experience with Sense 3.0 on these Rooms.
"No-Sense Rooms": Rooms without Sense UI, just like stock Android UI

Is any one else disillusioned?

Yes, yes I know the benefits of ROM's but man there are really getting on my tits.
I am fed up of things not working, the 'phone locking up, for what some battery and performance improvements that I don't even notice in day to day use.
My DHD admittedly ran better with Lee's and Mikes ROM's, my Sensation ran better in stock and every ROM I have tried have so many issues it's unreal.
If u dnt like the roms, don't use it!!! Haha

It may take a little patience, but it is definitely worth it on some of the ROMs. I have been sticking with Mike's ROMs and couldn't be happier. His latest 3.6.1 has been running flawless for me and many others. I guess you just have to find one you enjoy and keep looking back until it is completely daily stable.
Ops post is quite painful to read an I'm not even a dev, but I guess I understand where he is coming from. But op what you don't realize is that people who post roms go through a ton of work to get to where they are. Believe it or not but I'd go as far as to say that the devs for my phone (motorola milestone v1) know more about the phone than the group of developers from motorola.
Op, I'll dumb it down a little for you, if you need a stable phone stick with what it was when you pulled it out of the box. But if you wish to go a on an epic journey filled with ups and downs of situations where you'll sit there with a huge smile across your face, stick around, thank the devs for the gift they have given you, and if at all possible learn a thing or two while you enjoy your stay.

There are a number of ROMs that are plenty stable. You just have to find the right ones. I'm on CoreDroid 2.4 which has proven to be as stable as stock for me. Don't be surprised if a ROM you run that isn't on stock kernel and runs hacked Sense 3.5 isn't stable.

Don't get me wrong I appreciate all the work the dev's put in, I have only used Virtuous, Leedroid and Android HD but I have never had an install without some issue. Then the next version comes out and you have a different set of issues it's just so frustrating.

No such thing as a bug free ROM, not even stock
OP, try insert coin, a 2.3.4 version (latest is 2.5.5 ver2 w/ bricked kernel) its the best ive used to date, with frequent use, i get 1 day battery life, and with average-minimal use, i get 2 days battery life. no crashes, reboots or sense reloads, 200mb free ram (unless you use a custom theme).
while i would have agreed with the op when dev first started, this is no longer the case anymore. the devs have learned A LOT about this phone, and its builds and have only gotten so much better with time.
the main reason ppl come to XDA is so they CAN flash many, many roms to see what suits them. when i had my HD2 i was a certified flashaholic, new rom every 3 days to a week
with this fone ive settled down quite a bit, but when i new rom/dev comes along, i nand backup, flash the new rom, let it settle and then try it out for a few days and actually give it a chance.
Custom ROMs are fun because there are so many out there, and you can spend time with each one to determine which one fits your needs. If you're looking for a phone that is stable, just use the one that's been working the best for you and improvise, fixing what needs to be fixed so that your phone can do what you require of it.
Using Android Revolution HD 3.6.2 and its stable for me, had more issues with stock ROM.

[Q] Best ROM for me?

After successfully rooting my Sensation (thanks to Malybru) I'm looking for a rom that I will not need to tinker with for a while.
There's a ton of roms on the dev subforum, I've been reading through hundreds of pages and I give up.. lol...
The rom I need has to:
- Be stable. No bugs
- Have everything working (ICS on my G2x still has SD issues and camcorder does not work)
- Be fast, light with good battery life
- Be as close to stock ICS as possible. I like some of the custom graphics people are throwing in, but I want a clean look.
Thanks for your time in advance. Please don't flame and tell me to do more reading. If you feel too important to give me a piece of advice, just close the thread and move on.

Thanks. I was looking at the ARHD. It says I need firmware 3.32.401.x. How do I know what firmware version I have?
im not sure how to check but im sure there is a way.
but just flash it anyways.
most of the roms need it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Download the newest firmware from there that suites you and flash it from the bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
Flash Android Revolution HD with the setup you want in 4EXT.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470497
Download V41 and go through Aroma picking exactly what you want, requires 4EXT recovery.
This is the best option because you get the reliability of ARHD but can customize what you need to get to stock ICS.
Thanks guys. I'm running ARHD now. Seems pretty much perfect so far.

I haven't settled between what seem to be the two most popular: ARHD and Virtuous. I switch between them every other day or so. I am leaning towards ARHD for the excellent support though. Virtuous looks cleaner I think since they don't use Sense, but ARHD is constantly updated with bug fixes and has great mods already baked in (6.6.2 just added the HQ Camera mod!).
Can't really go wrong with either one. I haven't given InsertCoin, OpenSensation, or Cyanogen9 a try yet. There are so many ROMs....

as long as you nandroid, there is no reason not to try others if you find a problem or are not satisfied. Just restart into boot loader and restore your backup.
I personally am running insertcoin. It was the first room I tried the day that permanent root was achieved. Sooooo far sooooo good.
Baad puts allot off work into his ROM. He doesn't take requests, but if nearly stock is what you are looking for, this is it. with only tasteful eyecandy and optimized for speed and accessibility really separating it from the near stock experience, I run stable and for sometimes nearly 2 days with minimal use. No wifi.
Peace mate. Ics is awesome hope your pop enjoys.

Best Sensation ICS ROM so far (April 2012)

Hey Guys.
I've been ROM-ing the Sensation on and off since July.
Been on CoreDroid 2 upwards but got a bit fed up of Sense so tried a few others.
I like MIUI but if I wanted an IPhone perhaps I should have got one!
I've returned to the idea of Sense so long as its not OTT.
I'm on CoreDroid (5.1) which looks pretty slick.
Tried the ARHD rom last week and that is really good also.
Extreme Sensation Dream 3 was nice too but when I tried to upgrade (twice) to 5 I got a black start screen!
Ever since I saw the HTC One I wanted that look ... OrDroid 2 is good but no BT or Tether more importantly is a killer. When that is sorted this ROM will be cool!
Man, 4ext Recovery has really brough the ROMing thing on ... I can switch back to any backup in a twinkling.
Tremendous work from all you guys and thanks.
(I've donated occasionally and it must be time to do another one.)
Later.

Thx. WIll give it a whirl.
I think the best rom is what I am running now:
ELEGANCIA ROM SERIES Sense 4 : build 2.3
It's smooth
It's fast
It's stable
It's looking good
It's got high performance (1.6 ghz)
Virtuous Inquesition! That's my tastes...U need to try them for u'r own likes! happy flashing!

Seriously, you've gotta try things for yourself, what works for some you may hate. I won't name anything specific but there are already a couple rom's mentioned above that I've tried and really not cared for at all, but that's just me.

Best In My Opinion
I'm on CoreDroid (5.1) which looks pretty clean, super fast and stable.
Well, I tried other Core Droids 3.5 through 5.0 and none has given battery life like this one. the 4g available in my area allows the phone to stream and download faster, the other ROM lagged a bit and was not responsive (multitasking). No WiFi issues with 5.1.
Just another point to add to the uselessness of this type of thread, what's the point of saying "my favorite rom is..." if you don't bother explaining WHY it's your favorite??
It's like saying "the best color is red..." or "the best flavor of ice cream is chocolate..."
My favorite...
I have tried all of the roms. I have to say I hate the sense theme, but I have to admit that sense roms are the most stable and least buggy, and give great battery life. So I started with CyanogenMod9, but it had too many bugs. Then I tried Virtous Inquisition, but it wasnt smooth enough, I even flashed different Kernels... Recently I've been using the HyperNonsense Rom's by SpIder and he did a great job. But, I took his concept and flashed ARHD, trully best rom...and flashed it with ICS AOSP theme by Schizion, and flashed faux Kernel...I have to say this is by faaaaaaaaar the best combo...If you like AOSP then I find this combo to be greatest.

Many apologies, I didn't notice it was a copy of other threads. (Spend too much time in the dev forum and not the general forum)
I really love the CoreDroid roms because they just look beautiful and perform very well.
I got fed up of Sense for a short while but the sense-less roms I've tried are quick but not as good-looking and with these roms I've used the GO suite of apps & widgets to beautify but then the rom loses its identity.
These past couple of weeks I've gone a bit wild trying out diff roms.
ARHD and Elegancia are right up there with their looks & performance.
I really like how OrDroid is coming on ... updates galore.
Extreme Dream 3 is pretty sweet but no luck so far in installing Prime 3&5
Nice to experiment as BT is not key for me as a daily but Wifi tether is for tablet use.
Sense is whyI first got a HTC phone so looking for a rom or roms that take Sense a step forward.
That's all. Thx for your time.

My ROM experience

People are always posting up new threads asking for advice on this ROM vs. that ROM. Well, I haven't tried them all, but I've tried quite a few of the more popular ones recently. I'm not going to pick these ROMS apart. If you want more info about what I liked or didn't like about a particular ROM I've tried, go ahead and ask.
I got my Sensation back in January. I used the stock Gingerbread for a couple of months. Then got frustrated when the T-Mobile ICS update got delayed and have been on a flashing frenzy ever since.
I've been trying a lot of ROMs lately. I started with ARHD, then went to Elegancia, then Hypernonsense, then back to Elegancia, then Sense 4 Elegancia, then back to 3.6, then Virtuous Inquisition, then Opensensation (CM9), and back to Elegancia again. I've also tried Sebastion, faux, and bricked kernels - I prefer bricked best.
I honestly don't a see a performance difference between Sense, stripped Sense, or AOSP ROMs. I have System Tuner Pro and always monitor memory usage. I thought that the stripped and AOSP ROMs would have gobs of free memory available, but they just don't. They're no better or worse. I also was compelled to try those ROMs to improve battery life. Again, the experience didn't match the hype.
It all comes down to personal preference. Each ROM has its own glitches. But from my experience, full Sense 3.6 ROMs are the most functional and most stable. I loved the Sense 4.0 ROM I tried, except that Sense crashed on me like 3 times a day having to pull the battery each time. For me, nothing beats the Sense widgets. I live in the email and calendar widgets for work and the music widget in the car. No other widgets come close.
I think I'm gonna quit screwing around with it for a while. I am very happy with the Elegancia Sense 3.6 ROM / Bricked kernal combo. It's pretty much already modded/themed the I way I would do it. I can just flash it and go. I will try the Sense 4.0 version again when it's more mature. I loved it, I just can't have my phone crashing on me constantly.
I still want to try MIUI and will probably try CM9 again when it's official. I really like some of the home screen setups people have been able to pull off with their AOSP ROMs. But I think the widgets will always pull me back to a full Sense ROM. The only widgets that can compete, you have to pay for - and they're still not as good. Also, the AOSP camera blows compared to the Sense camera. In the end, it's all about what's functional for you.
In conclusion, try a few, try a bunch... don't get lost in the hunt for better battery life and more performance, because - 1) those 2 things don't go together... & 2) those 2 things are largely the same across all ROMS whether you're full Sense, stripped-Sense, or AOSP. Just find what you like and enjoy!
SO wutZ da best roms to use?
Just joking, but it's too bad some people are serious.
Its all about your liking that's it otherwise there is not a rom whit better battery life than any others

I've been using Ordroid (Sense4) for a week or so now and I've found it quiet stable to be honest. I haven't experienced any crashes.
The batterylife was in 5.0.X about 17 hours (2 hours of screen turned on).
V6.0.0; I can't say if there are anything wrong just yet since its been out for about 2 days only and I've used it for 1 day. but the first batterycycle was about 21 hours with 2h 5m screen turned on. Only thing I could complain about with Ordroid is the partially working BT, I can't say anything about the Wifi-tethering issue because I am not using it.
Hmm, well I guess that was that.
The partially working Bluetooth issue is across all Sense 4 ROMs. It has to do with the fact that Sense 4 was ported from another device with different BT hardware - so the Sense drivers aren't fully compatible.
With the release of T-Mobile's official RUU, it may be time try Sense 4 again and see if some of the previous issues I experienced are fixed now. But BT will probably always only be partially working due to the driver issue.

I tried Elegancia Sense 4 again last night. I thought it was time to give it another go since there have a few builds released since the last time. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. Whatever issues I'm having are buried deeper than what gets changed from build to build.
My phone has crashed on my twice in the last 5 hours. It's unfortunate. I really like Sense 4 - I think it's cleaner & smoother than 3.6. The camera is better and faster than 3.6. But if your phone crashes on you while changing menus or doesn't wake up and you have to pull the battery all the time, then it's useless.
Does anyone else have these issues with Sense 4? Maybe another Sense 4 ROM is better? I have not yet tried another Sense 4 ROM because it seems they all use the same base. Maybe I should try another and see if it works better...
The new InsertCoin ROM Sense 4.0 is out now, looks very stable, only FM Radio not working. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546731
I just flashed OrDroid Sense 4. I'll give that one a shot. It has a different base - the new leaked Ville RUU instead of the One S. The Ville and Sensation share the same processor, so maybe that will do the trick.
EDIT: That one's no good for me either. It has its own set of glitches I'm not willing to live with.
Now trying Steve's new TMOUS Elegancia with Bricked kernel.
Any tradeoffs for non Sense ROMs? I know the camera app is better on HTC's but other than that? Is there a Torch app similar to the stock one? Etc..
...and back on Elegancia 3.7.6. lol
I am running the updated TMOUS firmware now, tho. along with the other radio fix for TMOUS users. This might be the best combo I've run yet. But I'm still anxious for a fully functional Sense 4 ROM.

I get that they are all (Sense or no Sense) pretty much the same when it comes to performance and battery, but how do they compare to the stock one? Will I get any benefits from switching from the stock ICS to one of these?
Thanks!

For me, I love the overclocking of custom roms/kernels. Stock Sensation is 1.2ghz. My custom rom Sensation is 1.7ghz. Man is it speedy. I took the time to read countless posts and spent a ton of time learning how to mod my Sensation. No way am I going back to stock carrier rom.
