I've recently begun my multiple-month long researching for my next device, and where I was once set on getting my third Android set, I've recently developed a crush on WP7.
Of all the reviews I've read, the main issues I think that I would have would be the integration of Google apps; Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Email, Music, Maps, and Navigation are the biggies that would break my interest should they not work. Music isn't too big of a deal, but everything else is.
So, onto my question: How do Google's service integrate with WP7? Good, bad, ugly, etc.
There is no integration of Google apps on WP7. There is built-in support for Gmail, calendar, and contacts, a (very basic) Google search app, and a couple of third party apps that use some level of Google maps, but that's it. Official Google maps/navigation apps are not present, and likely never will be.

Contacts: sync is no problem
Calendar: sync yes, BUT only your main calendar, no shared or additional calenders... and if you create an entry it will be an invitation
Tasks: ?
Email: works fine trough imap
Music: ?
Maps: just some third party apps, but no way to sync favourites
Navigation: nothing from google, but bing has some simple navigation and in the future there will be navigon
Mail, calendar and contacts work practically the same as your Live ID.
There is an app for the google tasks: gTask
Music can be streamed from skydrive instead of google music (don't know if it's possible on nodo, you might need mango)
For now I think Google won't show much support towards WP7, but I suppose they can't keep ignoring it; that will only push people towards Bing.
... but, import contacts from gmail account not imports birthday date, you must manually enter.
hmm, didn't notice that since I imported my google contacts from facebook, and both were automatically combined in the people hub.

music: music.google.com works okay in the browser in mango, personally i think zune > google music, so while i have a music account, i rarely use it on my phone.
contacts, email: sync fine through exchange, as stated, some information might not come through (birthdays etc) personally i sync my contacts via my live account and only sync my calendar and mail from google as gmail was constantly doing something screwy with my contacts (numbers and contacts would vanish for no reason randomly)
mail works fine, no label support though (mail.google.com viewed through the browser works if you need more of the extra features from gmail)
calendar: works, with some extra work you can make it sync multiple calendars over the active sync connection (through another browser with iphone UA settings)
tasks: no sync afaik
maps & nav: there are some gmaps apps in the market, and they work okay, personaly bing does essentially the same thing for me, so i don't see the need to use google maps specifically. (plus google gets my street name wrong and bing doesn't)
nav in mango isn't bad, not as well done as android's navigation (really the best thing android has going for it) but it does work, and i do enjoy some of the humanistic directions bing gives (ie, mobile on the right, if you reach street x you've gone too far, etc)
all in all, i haven't nearly missed my google apps as much as i feared i might when i dumped android, but your situation will really depend on how much you need google's services specifically.

Does anyone have a working google calendar sync? I tried oggsync and about 4 others that used to work fine but they give me errors on login...could be google changed their login process but it happened around same time as I upgraded to wm6 so wondering if thats the problem....
Ideas?

It works fantastic with Google Calendar!!! PLUS there is no extra programs to install because it uses ActiveSync which is built in to WM6
Also, it sync contacts from Google Contacts or Plaxo... I honestly prefer Plaxo because it doesn't have the annoying "Suggested Contacts" and it keeps the format as last name first, but I would still recommend Google Contacts because there have been problems with Plaxo syncing due to "excessive usage" (according to Plaxo).

Activegcsync for multiple Google Calendar sync (WM5/WM6/WM6.5)
Try Activegcsync by Gil Milow. Unlike other software I have tried (eg. GMobileSync), it works very well for multiple calendars (and contacts). It is available free although I'm sure the developer would appreciate a donation for his efforts. It is software like this that at least keeps our Windows Mobile phones (WM5/WM6/WM6.5) functional.

Just a note but I use the oggsync mobile app. Googles app has you use outlook which I am trying to eliminate as a part of the process. Hopefully Google will come out with a mobile option for winmo.
Urg...this is harder than it should be. Can anyone in the same situation offer any advice?

* HTC Touch Pro
* Google Apps Mail/Calendar/Tasks
* Lotus Notes w/Notes Traveler
* Other sync apps like Spb Wallet
* Windows XP
I initially had my phone syncing with ActiveSync to my laptop as a backup (contacts etc going to Outlook) and so I could sync things like my password data using Spb Wallet
Coming from Palm devices, I wasn't quite prepared for how crap ActiveSync (or Outlook) actually was. I then changed my mail to sync with Google (using IMAP) and then Contacts and Calendar syncing with Google via their fake Outlook sync setup, and that works pretty well.
Note: Now Google have push email, but I haven't tried it, and my Spb Wallet on my phone and PC are now out of sync
Today I tried Notes Traveler, which syncs my work info over-the-air, kind of like a Blackberry.
This works (I guess) but Lotus' idea of "Sync" seems to be "Nuke everything on your device and overwrite it with your Notes data"
...yep, I did back everything up...
Issues/Questions:
1) Is there any way to get rid of the default "Outlook" mail account in TouchPro 3d? Strangely I did a backup and restore when my phone went in for repair, and now it is called my domain name and has some old mail in it, but it's still not deletable
2) Notes Traveler creates a second (third!) mail account, so my work email is separate (which is great) but it nuked my calendar. Then it nuked my Google calendar, and uploaded all my work appointments to it! To make matters worse, even though mail is separate, meeting invites and responses now get sent back to my personal Google mailbox (since there is only one calendar I guess)
3) Since I'm busy/lazy at work, my work email has 554 unread messages (from the last 30 days), and it fills up at a rate of a couple of hundred a day. This means that the notification circle thingo on the front of the phone is in a permanent state of flashyness. Is there any way I can disable that for mail, and just have it alert me for SMSs etc?
4) Has anyone come up with a good solution for two different types of mail? The only option I can really think of is turning off the Google sync (maybe except for Contacts) and using the web apps...but that seems clunky and no TouchFlow 3D integration. There isn't a native WM6 app for the Google suite is there? Or for Notes? Also the screenshots on the Google help web pages seem much more usable than the screens I actually get (there are tabs across the top to switch between mail, cal etc.)
5) I really use the multi calendar feature of Google a lot, is there any way you can sync more than one calendar to the device?
6) Does anyone know if Android manages this scenario better? I'm almost ready to switch (except that no Notes Traveler for Android)

To delete the account you go into Activesync on the phone, then go to Menu...Options...now click and hold on the exchange server to delete it.
You can go to Settings, sounds Notifications to turn off the flashing notification. Otherwise you may need fuze tweak or advanced config.
I'm frustrated with the Samsung Galaxy S' calendar. My important appointments make a little low *bip* sound and that's about it. I tried to use Calendar Snooze, but I can't get it to work. Apparently you should be able to select snooze option from the Calendar app but it doesn't work because no such option is available on my phone. Changing the sounds in the phone settings makes no difference. Any ultra mega hacker who knows how to take control over the calendar notifications?
yes, this is a bug or not but a very tiresome. i need this knowledge too how can i change.
Mine uses the default notification sound.
Menu-> Settings -> Sound & Display -> Notification ringtone, pick one.
I take that back. I used Calendar Notifier from Market to solve that specifically without rooting. You could also root and replace the TouchWiz calendar with the Android stock calendar.apk. the instructions, etc are here

since nobody responded to my question, just wanted to update and say that as of now the only work around i've found is to download the attachment(s) while the meeting notice is still an email (i.e. before you accept it so its added to your calendar). If anyone has a suggestion for a better way of handling embedded docs in calendar appointments, i'm all ears. Thanks.

Hi, on my business laptop with MS Windows and Outlook 2010 I use a tool named "Google Calendar Sync" to synchronize Outlook calender with my Google calender. Just search on Google for "Getting started with Google Calendar Sync".
Another way to get Outlook stuff synchronized with your Galaxy S is to use your Exchange account. But I don't want to use exchange on my Galaxy S because of battery drain. So this tool is a good compromise ;-)
Hi, here are my two cents: I'm using Touchdown for syncing my company MS Exchange account. It does download the meeting attachments when viewing mails/meeting notes, so this might help you out.
It is quite expensive (around 14 euro) but it is by far better than the stock exchange app and the support is perfect when mailing them. The other plus is that you can set whether you want to pull or push at certain times.
Having said that there are some downsides as well: the UI is (mildly said) very basic and its calendar looks like the programs from the 80s (but there are a few market calendar apps which one can use to view the meetings list)
Hmm.. I agree that this sounds pretty much like spamming but cross my heart: I'm just a happy Touchdown user (using some other apps as well to make my daily life organized) sharing my experience.

I have been Android user for about 2-3 years and have own Google Apps domain and services.
I am really liking Nokia Lumia 800, one of reasons also is that I am Windows developer and using Windows Phone makes sense for me, as I can support Windows Phone as well.
What I am worried is how to use Google services on WP7.5. How do you sync contacts with Google Apps, IMAP emails, calendar? Most used services right now on my phone.
1. Is there a live contacts update as android? Or just plain CSV import/export?
2. IMAP? Works well with labes as well? I have around 40-50 labels for different companies
3. Calendar sync? Same as #1?
Or is this phone primarily aimed at MS services like exchange, skydrive and others and if I want to keep google apps I should just stick to android.

From what I heard, Google users with windows phone don't have any problems with syncing, although the only drawback is that multiple calendars aren't support yet, but can be done by adding multiple Google accounts (seems pointless).
Since you are a windows developer, you can use your primary live ID to windows phone to use microsoft services, and add your google account with the stuff you already have such as contacts, calendar, email. For cloud storage, the default will obviously be skydrive (7GB).
About the first question, if you are talking about Google+, then no, windows phone only shows contact updates from twitter, facebook and linkedin.
Google mail, contacts, and calendar sync seamlessly with wp 7.5. Also govoice works perfect for Google voice. I've had NO issues bringing my Google services over as I develop for windows also. I have an HTC radar I use along with my SGSII. I also have been with Android since Android 1.5 and found using windows phone fun. Good luck with your decision.

WP7 comes with a built-in template for Google accounts. By default, these sync calendar, mail and contacts, and they all sync automatically in real-time (or on a polling schedule, if you're concerned about the battery usage).
I believe it actually uses Google's implementation of ActiveSync (like Exchange) since that handles the various features under one protocol. You can certainly use IMAP as well, if you want to for some reason. Note that under both IMAP and EAS, Gmail will pretend your labels are folders. You can sync multiple folders just fine, and pin specific folders for one-click access.
That said, Android definitely has better support for Google stuff, unsurprisingly. The hardware search button goes to Bing. The phone offers integration with SkyDrive but not Google Drive, and Sharepoint but not Google Docs (although you may be able to use Google Docs via the browser; I haven't tried). Google+ works in the browser but is completely absent from the integrated social networking features. There are many third-party apps that support Google Talk quite well, but only the Facebook and Live mesaging networks are built into the phone.

The OS has a built-in navigation feature, but it's... limited (some would say crippled). It won't tell you as a turn approaches, or where to go next in general, unless you tap the screen.
There are plenty of navigation apps, though. I am, however, unfamiliar with "my tracks" so I'm not sure cow that compares.

Yes, WP7 immediately (or atleast within a few minutes) updates your Google calendar and contacts.
