Sync Nightmare: Managing Work and Personal on one phone - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Urg...this is harder than it should be. Can anyone in the same situation offer any advice?
Situation is this...
* HTC Touch Pro
* Google Apps Mail/Calendar/Tasks
* Lotus Notes w/Notes Traveler
* Other sync apps like Spb Wallet
* Windows XP
I initially had my phone syncing with ActiveSync to my laptop as a backup (contacts etc going to Outlook) and so I could sync things like my password data using Spb Wallet
Coming from Palm devices, I wasn't quite prepared for how crap ActiveSync (or Outlook) actually was. I then changed my mail to sync with Google (using IMAP) and then Contacts and Calendar syncing with Google via their fake Outlook sync setup, and that works pretty well.
Note: Now Google have push email, but I haven't tried it, and my Spb Wallet on my phone and PC are now out of sync
Today I tried Notes Traveler, which syncs my work info over-the-air, kind of like a Blackberry.
This works (I guess) but Lotus' idea of "Sync" seems to be "Nuke everything on your device and overwrite it with your Notes data"
...yep, I did back everything up...
Issues/Questions:
1) Is there any way to get rid of the default "Outlook" mail account in TouchPro 3d? Strangely I did a backup and restore when my phone went in for repair, and now it is called my domain name and has some old mail in it, but it's still not deletable
2) Notes Traveler creates a second (third!) mail account, so my work email is separate (which is great) but it nuked my calendar. Then it nuked my Google calendar, and uploaded all my work appointments to it! To make matters worse, even though mail is separate, meeting invites and responses now get sent back to my personal Google mailbox (since there is only one calendar I guess)
3) Since I'm busy/lazy at work, my work email has 554 unread messages (from the last 30 days), and it fills up at a rate of a couple of hundred a day. This means that the notification circle thingo on the front of the phone is in a permanent state of flashyness. Is there any way I can disable that for mail, and just have it alert me for SMSs etc?
4) Has anyone come up with a good solution for two different types of mail? The only option I can really think of is turning off the Google sync (maybe except for Contacts) and using the web apps...but that seems clunky and no TouchFlow 3D integration. There isn't a native WM6 app for the Google suite is there? Or for Notes? Also the screenshots on the Google help web pages seem much more usable than the screens I actually get (there are tabs across the top to switch between mail, cal etc.)
5) I really use the multi calendar feature of Google a lot, is there any way you can sync more than one calendar to the device?
6) Does anyone know if Android manages this scenario better? I'm almost ready to switch (except that no Notes Traveler for Android)
Thanks in advance for any pointers on any of the items above.
Zilch.

To delete the account you go into Activesync on the phone, then go to Menu...Options...now click and hold on the exchange server to delete it.
You can go to Settings, sounds Notifications to turn off the flashing notification. Otherwise you may need fuze tweak or advanced config.

Trying to stay clear of Exchange, but need Push and Sync!

We are using Google for your Domain, and we using Google Calendar, Custom Group Start page, etc. We are all setup that way already and we are just really in love with our setup as it is simple, fast and no-hassles. We don't want to get an exchange server, it seems so complicated, costy and not as compatible (ical, rss, etc).
What we are missing is to be able to get all this data pushed and to sync with our WM5 PDAs.
Right now we are forwarding our emails to a paid exchange service, but we are missing on all the emails that we are sending from our PDAs that do not get sync-ed with gmail.
Also I have read a little bit, but is there a way to sync Gcal with the WM5? We are leaning towards migrating to exchange to be able to have everything sync-ed, but... Google for your Domain is just so great and simple to use (and free...) There has to be a way to push and sync gmail (and contacts), gcal with a WM5! Anyone?
Not sure about push, but check GooSync out.
Google Calendar Sync
5 March 2008 Google Calendar Sync allows you to sync events between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Calendar.

I suggest kerio Mail Server as a substitute to exchange. It works great with iCal and all of Mac. It also works great with my Tilt.

I am not certain whether Funambol will handle Google email, but you might want to check it out (http://www.funambol.com). You can get a free account with them that will handle syncing PIM data and push email, coming from any POP email account. I eventually turned off the push email, since having my data access online 24/7 was running the battery down too fast, but I still use their sync function to transfer contact and calendar information between my phone and Mozilla Thunderbird
I tried this a lot a while back, I spent ages avoiding exchange, I spent hours looking; what I eventually used was a combination of IMAP and Google Calendar. IMAP has the Idle extension which allows mail to be effectively "pushed" to your device, although WM doesn't natively support this I used an add on (I forget the name, it was something like vimail but if you google IMAP Idle WM you'll surely find it or something similar). However I found it hogged my battery, it would only last literally about half a day with this program installed, not sure if it's the program or just a necessary evil of how the IMAP behaviour works.
Alternative you could just sync every 15 mins. That works reasonably well.
That leaves your calendar and Toffa's GooSync program worked quite well for me, synching my google calendar, but it doesn't offer calendar push, and they want you to pay a yearly fee which I think is annoying.
With regards to the previous post I would not recommend Funambol, nor would I recommend ScheduleWorld or Plaxo all of which I found very disappointing and glitchy (I couldn't get Funambol to work at all, actually, and I tried very hard).
This leaves Tasks and Contacts and to the best of my knowledge there is no good way of synching these OTA, so you have to resort to the bane of every WM user's existence which is WMDC/Vista (or Activesync for PC). I heard something about goosync planning to support them, but I'm not sure exactly where your synched items go, you'd have to look.
Now although this is I think the best possible solution I must say I eventually gave up and paid the $10 or whatever for hosted Exchange, which is much more seamless.

WM6 and google calendar sync?

Does anyone have a working google calendar sync? I tried oggsync and about 4 others that used to work fine but they give me errors on login...could be google changed their login process but it happened around same time as I upgraded to wm6 so wondering if thats the problem....

there's a program called activegcsync, it is pretty good
woah way to bump and old thread.
hi, i developed a small tool to synchronize the google calendar with pocket outlook. is a beta but if you want to give it a glance. In future also sync contacts.
http://gsync.wordpress.com
Great app, works quite well.
One question though, I can't seem to be able to get the "Where" field to come across. Is this something missing in the app?
Also it could be cool to put a auto update every time we do a change on the calendar ....
or more simply every 15 minutes....
thx
Try www.nuevasync.com
It works fantastic with Google Calendar!!! PLUS there is no extra programs to install because it uses ActiveSync which is built in to WM6
Also, it sync contacts from Google Contacts or Plaxo... I honestly prefer Plaxo because it doesn't have the annoying "Suggested Contacts" and it keeps the format as last name first, but I would still recommend Google Contacts because there have been problems with Plaxo syncing due to "excessive usage" (according to Plaxo).
Hope it helps everyone
Activegcsync for multiple Google Calendar sync (WM5/WM6/WM6.5)
Try Activegcsync by Gil Milow. Unlike other software I have tried (eg. GMobileSync), it works very well for multiple calendars (and contacts). It is available free although I'm sure the developer would appreciate a donation for his efforts. It is software like this that at least keeps our Windows Mobile phones (WM5/WM6/WM6.5) functional.

Android and Syncing...

My wife and I are swtiching to Android devices (EVO me, Hero or Moment for her), I wanted to setup the sync as follows for the calendar. I am not to worried about the email as she can just do POP for now.
We both use Outlook on our computers setup like this:
She is just connecting to POP mail
Mine is my company mail (via the DAMO LotusNotes Connect)
Both view shared google calendar in outlook
I don't have a clue how to setup the sync, what I would like is:
I would have to sync my work calendar via wire (HTC Sync) or LN Traveler for OTA (they already added me to the server)
I could sync the Google shared calendar OTA
She could sync the Google calendar OTA
The part I want to make sure of is I was trying this with my windows mobile phone and I could wire sync my work calendar and see google calendar in outlook. But as soon as I added to sync to the Google Calendar OTA via ActiveSync, it pushed all my work appointments up to the google calendar. I wanted to keep the google calendar just the family stuff (you know running the kids around)...
Thanks for any and all help, It was pretty easy when it was just me, adding her to the mix will make things better in the long run, just have to figure out how to do it!
I've got a Hero which can sync with Google and with my office calendar/email which runs on MS Exchange. The phone successfully keeps them entirely separate. I can change one or the other, sync OTA, and the each calendar continues to contain only the appointments it's meant to. I realise you aren't going to be using MS Exchange, but if Sense (HTC's customised version of Android) knows how to keep Google and Exchange calendars separate, it should be able to do the same for anything else. Furthermore, it knew how to have a separate 'Outlook' calendar when I tried syncing via USB and ActiveSync. I didn't experiment much with that as I stopped using it as soon as I got OTA syncing to work with the Exchange server, but it considering that it recognised it as a separate calendar in its list, it should still do what you want.
Another option for you may be to completely swap away from Outlook and use Thunderbird. That knows how to sync to Google calendars and address book, but I don't know if your DAMO LotusNotes Connect system will work with it. Both these features are done with plugins, so it's possible that there's also a plugin for your work's system. Thunderbird also handles IMAP messaging better than Outlook; at least, better than Outlook 2003 did. I mention IMAP because your wife will have to stop using POP if she wants to be able to read her emails both on her computer and on her phone - POP isn't designed to have multiple computers accessing the same email account. It wants to download emails off the server and delete the remote copy; you can make it just download them, but I don't think it would then know to mark them as read or unread.
Thanks, sounds like I will have to do some playing.. We are using Outlook 2010 and it is the best update for some time. I have my kids and mother-in-law on Thunderbird, just not us.
You can setup Pop to leave messages for X days unless deleted, this is how I have been running for my one pop account, it works fine but yes you get some dups, not a big deal.
I have thought for some time about making my linux server my mail server as well, heck, I think I could link that to whatever accounts I desire then have it do the push mail, that would be an interesting setup...
Again, thanks, sounds like we have some playing but it should work fine.

Thanks in advance...

[Q] ActiveSync help - can't find help anywhere else

When I try to stop actively syncing certain features (like contacts), it erases all my contacts from my phone. Help?
Here's the deal:
I have set up my WM6.5 standard phone (Samsung JACK) to sync with my home PC and my work PC. The other day I wanted to back-up my contacts to my home PC, but I don't want it to sync contacts on my work PC because then it will download the entire office directory - do not want.
So I selected "CONTACTS" to sync while at home. I did it, it saved all my contacts to my PC, and now I'm happy.
Trouble:
When I went into options and un-selected "CONTACTS" it now has to remove all my contacts from my phone. Why??? It says that it has to remove all sync'd contacts to stop it from sync'ing in the future. That makes no sense, and is now causing me trouble.
To get my contacts back on my phone, I sync'd it with my home PC. But, now I can't sync with my work PC because I can't remove CONTACTS from the sync list.
This is also true with CALENDAR. I was thinking of trying to sync my Outlook calendar with GOOGLE Calendar, but to start a new sync with Google I have to unselect my calendar sync. If I do that, it removes all of my calendar items. THIS IS NO GOOD!
How can I unselect something to stop it from sync'ing in the future but leave those items alone on my device and PC as they are.
Help?
I hate to "bump", but I was hoping someone here had experience with this.
I can't seem to get anybody to talk to me about this, and it is increasingly infuriating.
The only answer I'm finding is that we CAN'T.
ActiveSync will delete everything if you stop sync'ing. So, we have to use a 3rd party backup software to backup everything, delete the partnership, and then set the new thing to sync, and reload from the backup.
A pain in the you-know-what, but it looks like Microsoft designed it that way. (Booooo, hisssssss)
i'm looking forward to getting away from MS in my next phone.

[Q] How to STOP wp7 mango synching contacts and calendar

I can see advantages and also disadvantages of synching my phone to the windows live cloud, but would definitely like my Live environment cleaned up and tidy instead of synched with all the mess i like to make in my phone contacts and phone calendar
Anyway, if in the calendar i decide to hide my Live id from the calendar, it doesn't allow me to make new 'phone-only' appointments. Every note i write immediately synchs with Live and even turns the Live id on for calendar when i write a new one. From a synchronization point of view that is wonderful, everything always in sync. I notice a lot of people who benefit of being online everyday and everywhere. But,
I would like to keep my phone calendar as phone-only. Is there a way to do so, and how?
please point me in the right directon if this is not the most appropriate place for this question
1) I really doubt on the Offline Calendar.
2) For the first live id you use on WP, becomes primary for everything including calendar. And the calendar does not have uncheck option to stop it from syncing.
3) Hiding only hides it from calendar doesn't let it stop syncing. If you want to stop syncing you need to go to Settings > Email and then choose individually for every account
Yes that was my conclusion as well. Strange how suddenly everything is online. I loved Nokia for its mobile phone solutions but since wp7 is their new OS I think Microsoft has taken over. I just hate default settings that you cannot change, and miss the manual sync with pc suite and so on. And even though the data is stored in the cloud, one can't send much over Bluetooth. Modern age, but features existing since the stone age are missing.
The Only solution which I see is Resetting the phone and do not use any Live Id with it. Instead use all other Gmail Account. Then you might get an option, I am guessing here though. I will confirm this when I next reset my phone once I back it up
Thanks in advance, let me know how that works. If you'd use your Gmail account, I guess that would lock you out on marketplace, correct?
Settings --> accounts --> Select account --> uncheck what you dont want synced
