I thought all the 3d pictures are saved in a 4:3 format.
when viewed on the gallery software its always 4:3.
after uploading 2 to Phereo and viewing them in Phereo they are 16:9 and look better.
i cant find the option to do this with the local phone software.
did you check to make sure phereo didn't chop off a little on top or bottom?
last time I used phereo I remember clicking a picture that showed a full head, but in 3D half the head was cut off.

phereo crop the photos, never a good thing, I want them always in the aspect ratio they were taken in so I'm glad the gallery doesn't mess with them

Hi all,
Not sure if this happened just after the update to the 24 firmware, as I only just noticed it... but have you noticed that images do not zoom properly in mediascape...?? - it's like a crappy 'digital' zoom on a low resolution image (probably one reason why photos taken by the camera always look so crap - because Mediascape does not display them in their full beauty)
Let me give you an example:
The wallpapers here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6994126&postcount=1 look great as a wallpapers... nice HD image, stretched all the way to the edges of my screen... However, if I view the same image in Mediascape it shows up with an actual size of about 1x1 inch, and if I zoom in, instead of getting a nice HD image, I get exactly what you'd expect if I zoomed in on a thumbnail - a horribly compressed looking jpeg.
Is this a new issue? was Mediascape always awful like this? is there a fix...?
Bump.... anyone?
Yes I noticed the same thing on the 20 software as well. Pictures look great when set as background, but viewed in Mediascape they look all blurry, very annoying!

Is there any good image viewing SW out there... usually, if I take a photo, I'll zoom in close, just to make sure it's not too blurry, and nice and crisp - currently I can't do that.
nothing worse than taking a good photo, and finding it just looks awful when blown up.
Astro has a 'better' image viewer, and while you can't zoom in, at least it's not showing a horribly compressed image.

SE probably did this so you can fling between pictures very quickly (this was first introduced on 020). However in order to make it so 'quick' they had to compress the pictures a lot.. Bunch of amateurs really..
I suggest you download JustPictures from the market. It is as fast as Mediascape, you can do the 'one-finger-zoom' and the images remain sharp.
Thanks for that - Just Pictures works a treat.
Cheers
i made some photo's in 3d on the o3d, but in gallery they wont show fullscreen. how can i fix this? i ofcource want to view the 3d on the full screen size.
What do you mean by not full screen? Pictures are taken in a 4:3 aspect ratio so you will always have black bars on the sides.

Is there a way to change that aspect ratio then?
I dont know a way either, but i think it is ennoying and i would appreciate a solution as well!

Can you explain whats the problem?
You will always have black bar on sides since the photos are cinverged to give stereoscopic 3d effect.
we stil do not have 3d steroscopic viewers in android market and until that happens we cant see the full screen you want.
Ofcourse O3D does not support portrait 3d.
However even if you take 2d photos they will have black bars on sides. So this is a viewer issue.

Ofcource? On the evo 3d portrait 3d works...although its not the greatest way.
And the black bars are not required for the 3d effect. I think its the camera app that does something with the photos made...wich makes it with black bars in the gallery.
Hmm.. I downloaded stereoscopic gallery from market. Has many options. Choose lg real 3d and it shows the pics with same effect. black bars.
Its the ratio factor of the camera.
photos are 4:3, the screen is nearer 16:9, the black bars are meant to be there, if they weren't you would have some of the picture cropped off from the top and bottom and it would be a lower resolution
I for one do not want this. Keep it as it is!

i dont understand...the evo 3d makes photo's with less megapixels and they fill the complete screen and resolution....
at least it could be modified so the image is zoomed in a bit?
i do not want those black bars even if the photo quality goes back a bit.
The aspect ratio is more relevant than the resolution. Photo's are taken in a standard 4:3 aspect ratio for printing purposes. Hell, if you take pictures in the native screen resolution they would be 16:9 and thus fullscreen but would only be 0.4 megapixel. The Evo3D either takes photo's in a 16:9 aspect ratio or crops pictures to fit the entire screen.
Since you can't change the aspect ratio and you can't zoom in the gallery your only options would be to find an app with which you can crop pictures on your phone or transfer them to your pc, crop them in something like Photoshop and put them back on your phone. You can use the built in image editor but the problem is you can't specify an exact ratio so you have to crop by sight which can be a bit tedious. Once you got the right spots though it's not that hard.
Take a picture, then choose Edit (Bewerken, bottom option in the left menu). When you're in the editor you choose Edit (Bewerk) again from the left menu (top option) and then pick the Choose (Kies) option (left option). Now you have a rectangle in the center of the image. Stretch the rectangle to fit the entire picture by touching a line and dragging it in the right direction. Then you take the top of the rectangle and drag it down five steps. Do the same with the bottom but drag it only four steps. Then choose Crop (Bijsnijden) from the right menu (middle option) and save the image. You should now have a perfect fullscreen image.

The image viewer is the real problem for watching 3D images. I have saved the 3D images as jpg in my computer and edited with photoshop increasing the height of the image to suite 16:9 resolution. To be precise the resolution I kept for the edited image was 4096 x 2304 and saved the image as jpg file again. Now when I watched the image in 3DTV (LG cinema 3D 47")it was perfectly filling the screen with good clarity as a side by side format. I opted the 3D option for side by side format. The 3D experience for the image was really nice with a full screen one 3d image. Now I tried to watch it with my handset Optimus3D. There when I opted for 3d side by side format, the instrument combined bothe left and right side images to a single images keeping 2 broad black borders on both the side. Now with the experiment I find that the 3d image viewing programme in the handset is not properley done for watching full screen mode. Camera is not at all a problem. I think LG will have to look in to this for rectifying the same in the forthcoming firmware updates...
thanks
That's strange. When I crop the images on the phone to the same resolution as you they're displayed fullscreen in the image viewer.
What happens when you change the extension back to jps?
Since I bought a smartphone with widescreen display, I'd like to browse pictures in full widescreen mode.
Well, it sounds easy but I can't find a way to do it with the Nexus5 through stock apps.
When browsing pictures in portrait through the Gallery this is what i get: the picture is cropped with 4 fat useless black bars on each side.
No way to get fullscreen with stock apps?

i use the gallery app(aosp), not photos. depending on the size of the photo, it will display more or less black bars. if the size of the photo fits the whole screen, then the whole screen is used.
Keep in mind the phone is taking pictures in a 4:3 aspect ratio which will never fill a 16:9 aspect ratio screen fully.
I suspect you realize that however and are just looking for a photo viewer app that uses Immersive Mode or Transparent Mode to hide the navigation bar. Check out this thread which has been outlining which apps have taken advantage of this feature already.

Not really, the size of the picture is actually a perfect 1080p (same aspect ratio of the Nexus5 display), and i took the screenshot with stock gallery app.

Looks like with stock Android you can't take nor view pictures in real fullscreen mode........

Am I the only one that notices that you can be taking pictures and the as soon as you switch to video mode the video gets in real close and almost fills in the whole screen. This is crazy and annoying. Is there any way to turn this off? Maybe a setting that fixed this issue?
No, this is a hardware issue.
The answer is in this post:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s7/686490-does-anyone-use-video-stabilization.html
So what we need at least is a frame on screen showing us the exact video frame that will be recorded. Only that way we can aim correctly before pushing the record button.

I did read the ' answer' carefully, but setting the camera to 16:9 is unacceptable and definately not what I meant.
I just mean that I want a (colored?) frame of 16:9 on the display as guideline to show exactly what I will record when I start recording.

Why is it unacceptable? You can still choose to take photos in 4:3. Whenever you want to record video, you have to switch it to 16:9 if you don't want the zooming effect (if you've set it at 4:3, then the phone automatically records in 16:9, hence the zoom) - the phone can only record video in 16:9 aspect ratio, so that's by design. The same goes with other flagship phones like the Nexus 6P and iPhone 6.
And by the way, taking photos in 16:9 gives exactly the same quality as 4:3. The only difference is there is less field of view with 16:9, relatively. Personally, I just set the camera at 16:9 by default. If I really require more field of view (rare instances for me), it's not hard to tap the phone twice to select the 4:3 setting. And because 16:9 is default for me, I don't have to manually change it if I want to record video accurately (without the zooming) etc. It suits me nicely, as I often record video. Furthermore, 16:9 photos take up the full screen on the actual phone, laptop, PC and TV for me, without the need to waste precious time editing.

I prefer to see higher and lower too on my photo's. If I don't need it, I can remove it, but it's impossible to stitch that later on.
So, I should stick with 4:3, but then I will miss the correct frame for video. If you have kids, you should know that switching quickly is very important. What should be easier than to show two lines at the 19:6 position? When video recordging starts, I wouldn't mind if then that frame blows up.
So, for me the current working is weird, annoying and it seems to make it a bit slower. But, let's stop like this, each and every customer has his own thoughts about this and that's ok.
All good. The camera is just for fun for me. Maximum convenience is the theme here. And that's a "set and forget" 16:9 ratio for everything, and I know exactly what's included in the frame when I'm taking it etc. For my purposes, editing photos is a waste of time. I'd rather spend that time actually interacting with the "kids" etc. But totally agree, whatever makes you happy in the end.
So I love my pixel 2 and its google photos integration, I also like how when you take a burst/portrait photo it saves the original under the same photo (you open the photo and the 2 photos are at the bottom.) Now I have been for the longest of time just taking my photos in a 16:9 but with such a good camera I want all the pixels I can, so I switched to 4:3 but I HATE 4:3 so damn much, so my question, how do I save the original 4:3 photo but have a 16:9 photo taken by default too, cropped properly and selected as the `default`?
If you hate 4:3, just change the default to 16:9 in the camera settings? Sorry, I don't think the official google camera app supports dual formats. However, you could probably automate it with something like Tasker. If (new photo detected), send to (photo resizer), for example.

I never thought of tasker, Ill look into this soon, I hate 16:9 but throwing away data seems stupid and poor practice.
Update, I have tasker doing it automatically but since I take landscape and portrait photos this doesnt really work, someone mentioned that I can just offload this work to my pc, which I will do. Will edit this post with tasker info soon
Just wanna ask if anyone here remembers back when phone screens all used the 4:3 aspect ratio? I hate the new 18:9 - it's just too wide for most content viewing.

Dont you always crop the pictures anyway
With 4:3 you have more image vertical, horizontal is the same, so you have more to crop from :good:
