[Q] Infuse Root Problem - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hi everyone. I know this is my first post here but I have been browsing and reading quite a bit for a couple of weeks now. I searched several times for an answer to my dilemma but I have come up with nothing so far. I hope this has not been asked already but if it has, please direct me to where I can find more information...
About a week ago I decided to root my Infuse and everything went great. I used instructions found here and followed them exactly to the letter and I ran into no problems. I then installed the Serendipity 7 ROM on my device and that also went very well.
Fast forward to today and I wanted to see what Infused 2.1 would be like. I have heard many good things about Infused and I wanted to see if it would improve even further on battery life and a few minor issues.
I following the ROM Manager instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088
At this step - 6) Open SGS Kernel Flasher - I ran into a problem. SGS Kernel Flasher gives me the following error: "Root not acquired - fail!" This happens after the 'Initializing...' prompt. Now of course I am rooted. Not only did the root procedure work last week but I installed another ROM and I have a couple of root only applications installed. Nothing else indicates that I am not rooted. And I do have the Superuser icon and a few apps are now added in there.
Maybe this does not mean I am not rooted!? Maybe I missed some other step. I decided to connect to my PC and run SuperOneClick again. I wanted to see if that application would tell me that I was rooted. The only way I could see to do this was to press the Root button again. When I do that it gets all the way to 'Rooting device... - Step #6' and then stops. I have waited more than 20 minutes and nothing happens. No error messages, nothing. I have enabled USB Debugging and I unmounted my SD card. Thankfully forcing SuperOneClick to close (which I dreaded doing) did not harm my phone. I have rebooted several times and everything still works great with Serendipity.
But now I am stuck. I get the "Root not acquired - fail!" message in SGS Kernel Flasher and because of that I am not able to flash the CWM-infused-v2.0.1-kernel.zip file that I downloaded in a previous step.
I hope I am missing something simple. As I mentioned, I have read every post I can find with anything even remotely similar to this and nothing has helped thus far. Please let me know if anyone has any information that can get me back on track. I appreciate any and all responses.
Thanks!

Nevermind! Just a few more minutes and I would have got it. Apparently SGS Kernel Flasher does not like Perfect AppLock which I had running. So when I opened SGS it never had a chance to ask for Superuser privileges because I was prompted to enter my unlock code. Even after unlocking the app, SGS would not work properly. I closed Perfect AppLock and everything worked as it should. When I opened SGS after that it asked for Superuser privileges and after providing them, the root check succeeded.
Hopefully if anyone else runs into this they will find this thread first before spending a few hours on an impossible mission. Thanks for hearing me out at least.

[Q] Rooting New Galaxy S 4g

Hello All,
I picked up a Samsung Galaxy S 4g yesterday and I have had the intention of rooting it and installing a custom Rom from the get go. Unfortunately I am having problems getting rooted.
I have tried to use the One Click Root, but without much luck. I get the update.zip installed and it reboots into recovery mode, but on 'reinstall packages' it fails with a signature warning. I supect this is because I have the 3e recovery. I have seen some suggestions for other methods but they seem to but somewhat old or unsupported. I would love to get some advice on this.
Details are as follows
Model: SGH-T959V
Firmware: 2.2.1
Basband: T959VUVKB5
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: Froyo.VUVKB5
If someone could point me in the right direction, that would be very helpful.
*sigh* How many times are we going to see this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966133
I am not terribly sure what you mean by linking. I did actually read this thread along with a ton of others. It seems that it was successful for someone, thats great, but it wasn't for me.
I have followed the instructions, drivers are installed, sd card unmounted, usb debug mode etc. If there is something in that thread that is helpful please point it out. I would love to get this phone rooted.
Happened to me before with rage option on Super One Click Root, what I done was to unroot using same method and restart then use the first option on Super one click and not the rage one then reboot, everything is ok at present with no problem. Hope this help?
It can't hurt to try. I will give it a shot tonight.
Just for other folks I have confirmed that the z4root option does not work on this model. You get through acquiring shell, get a couple of random vibrations and then z4root fails with no root actually happening. There are a couple of other reports of the same result out.
I will try the option the post above suggests and I will see if there are some other approaches to try.
Moved to general as not android development
Just for posterity. One click root 1.7 works just fine as long as you are not trying to do it from a vmware vm.

[Q] Frozen on "running psneuter"

Greetings!
I'm new to all this so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place. Please forgive me if I am.
I've spent the last hour searching all over these forums and the web in general for the answer to my question, but I haven't seen a resolution.
I have now tried the SuperOneClick root for my Nexus One about a dozen times, and it keeps freezing on "Running psneuter..." and never ever goes any further.
I have tried this on two different computers, I installed the USB drivers from the Android SDK, and I have USB debugging turned on. I've followed those instructions for what happens when you get in the loop, even though they don't seem to apply to this exact situation.
There have been a few other threads here that seem to be about this topic, but they simply die out with no apparent resolution.
Please help! I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Any ideas? I'd really like to root my phone, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...
Yeah, USB debugging on is fine..
Have you tried the gingerbreak APK?

I apologize for being such a noob to all this, but I'm not familiar with what that was. All anyone talks about in the "blogosphere" is SuperOneClick.
Does the gingerbreak APK simply root the phone and not mod it? For the moment I really just need to root. Eventually I want to MOD too, but first I want to get Titanium Backup Pro on there so I can save some game data before I MOD.
Again, sorry for being such a newbie. I haven't done rooting/modding since my G1 about 18 months ago, and things have changed since that...
I have to admit, I'm surprised how many posts I've seen with the exact problem I'm having, yet nobody has responded with an answer to this issue. There are dozens of comments on the Shortfuse site from other people who are stuck at "Running psneuter," and there are no fixes or even responses, really.
There seem to be many smart people on these forums, so it's strange that this hasn't been worked out or even addressed...
Exact same problem as above.. Locks at "running psneuter"
Pulling the usb then goes to ***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING.. Etc *** and then killing ADP server..
Nexus one
2.3.4
GRJ22
From what little I've been able to get out of others here, it seems that the problem is there's no exploit for 2.3.4 yet.
However, I found a guide to rooting here: http://goo.gl/oCWvR
It requires you to have an unlocked bootloader, a process that basically wipes your phone, so be aware of that. But I'm all rooted now so it's definitely possible to do.
Good luck!
I used the exact same guide.. went to post it to a thread here but as I have low post count I cant post links..
Bootloader was already unlocked.
Heh, well, once you get to SIX posts like I have, you're clearly a big-shot poster But yeah, that's a very good guide.
In the end, though, it wasn't what did it for me. I was still having issues with it, but it got fastboot on my system and got me started. I then followed the instructions on Cyanogen's site and put a different recovery on there in order to get CM7 installed on my phone.

[Q] Looking for step-by-step directions for rooting US 3G 3.2 stock (build HTJ85B).

Okay. I am a virgin rooter, but I have I have been following the various threads for awhile and I am ready to take the plunge. Love the Xoom but would like to be able to read-write micro-SD and have better USB access to external storage and devices (and tinker with OC, etc). I find instructions for various configurations, but not mine. The forum help looks terrific but I would like to start down the correct path. Can anyone point me to a proven method for my configuration (US 3G 3.2 stock)?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I will read and reread (several times) before attempting. Probably won't get to it until this weekend. I'm a bit anxious about using the wifi instructions on a three-G. We'll see what happens...
I'll go out on a limb here and add that YD, may be like myself, I read the instructions tonight, I'm in the same boat, but when I say I'm a Virg. rooter, I mean that I'm I'm totally new to Linux/android and the instructions still don't make sense.
Sooo, is there a dummy version that fills in some of the little details? What I got out of the post was that all the downloads go on your laptop or desktop and after setting things up on ur PC you attach ur xoom via USB? That really is the extent of my understanding.
Michaelaw
I'm not much more experienced than you virgins, but I have rooted my xoom and have uploaded a different rom. It was a lot of trial and error. Mostly error. I'd be happy to talk to either of you on google talk and walk you through it if you have any questions. Again I'm not a pro, but some of the instructions are intimidating for the first-timers, and maybe I can help make some sense to it. My gtalk is radi0chik. the 0 is a zero.

If you are willing to downgrade I posted a possible solution at the end of this thread: http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-development/8693-xoom-3g-3-2-first-root-2.html
Post #15
Have you tried this link?
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...-update-your-3g-xoom-3-2-directions-file.html
If you already rooted I followed the instructions under the header "You Must Use this nandroid backup if you are running a non stock Rom. This is already Rooted"
All you're doing there is upgrading the recovery then restoring a backup for 3.2 that is rooted. No wipe needed. It just restores the files you need to be on 3.2. Once I was done it stopped nagging me to do the 3.2 update & said I was up to date.
Done!
I finally got around to trying to root my 3G 3.2 stock. I used the updated tutorial from jase33 at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170760
I had a few minor issues that I was able to resolve without too much difficulty (slow and steady). I see at least one other poster on that thread had a similar issue.
[oshizzle1991] "I was able to unlock my bootloader, but when i try and flash the rootboot.img, i get this error "error: cannot load "rootboot.img"" any ideas? i'm very experienced with adb and rooting lol, its not like i dont have adb or fastboot set up. any help would be appreciated!"
I found a solution but I wasn't able to post it on that thread (Developer's) because I am a newb. Here's what worked for me. After receiving the same error message (several times), I typed this in at the command prompt:
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
THEN I continued with the tutorial from where I had been stuck::
fastboot flash boot 3Grootboot.img
It was smooth sailing the rest of the way.
Big THANKS to jase33.

[Q] root one x running 1.85?

I've attempted to root via the root script that uses att servers and it seemed successful, rebooted device twice and said complete, but when I check with root checker basic it says "device not properly rooted." any suggestions where I could be having the problem?

You should probably post this in the root thread but if I had to guess you need to go into SU and update the binaries.
In the OP of the root thread it says that if it doesn't work, set your date ahead 2 days, reboot, and try again. Probably would be a good idea to try that.
I actually did reset the date before creating a thread. In the OP it says to do that if you become stuck at the ... screen. I didn't get stuck. WHole process went through like clockwork, said complete, rebooted automatically and now, well i dunno. Phone works fine, just don't have a super user.
Try it again.
go in the dev forum and follow one step root instructions...did mine the other day. have to set date ahead like mentioned above and re install the root like 3 times before it works.
I was able to do it using the steps outlined in this post.

ATT One X 1.85 Root Successful!
To all the "try it agains", thanks! Being new to android and rooting i wasn't sure how to read what was happening, but after a lot of google-ing (with results that said try again, set date forward etc..) and really trying to read all the script, I finally got it! For the other noobs that come to this link... continue to re-run the root process exactly as the instructions say. It will take a sitting session of doing the exact same thing 3-4 times. Each time it is rooting or installing another package. It took me MUCH longer than it should have because I wasn't familiar and more importantly, wasn't paying attention to the script, you have to look at more than the instructions on web page. Unlocking bootloader is very simple as well, given that you can look at exactly whats going on in front of you! Thanks again to all the developers and posters that make it easier on a rook like me!

Tmobile Galaxy S 4g root issue...

Hey there, Just want to thank everyone here in advance for any help and direction they give.
Got a few NOOBish question of course... but please understand ive used Google, and The search option on this forum (and others!!)
I got a Samsung Galaxy S. which im trying to root... These are my issues..
1. When phone turns on, it says VIBRANT, it clearly says Galaxy S across the back of the phone, But person who gave me the phone says its Galaxy S 4g..... I cant tell the difference of which/what phone it is.
2. I Got it a few days ago, so i updated to 2.2 froyo (via kies mini) after i connected it with with tmobile
3. Superoneclick was NOT working ,it kept hanging , and getting errors. Until a few minutes ago it told me it was successful with the root....
Then said it would send a superSU request of some sort to my phone. Then i get a "SuperSU binary needs to be updated,", then i recieve a "installation failed"
NOTE - SuperSU was installed PRIOR to root attempt.
4. Rom Manager said successful flash of CWM (i flashed the galaxy vibrant version) ..
Cant reboot into CWM recovery tho, it goes to Android System Recovery (3e)
5. I tried superSU after rebooting, and i get same error. Also when i type SU into terminal command, i still get "permission denied" (so makes me believe the phone never rooted thru superoneclick ? Obviously ? Or im wrong.... i dunno
... .Other notes, i tried z4root, by manually installing the apk via ASTRO manager, i clicked permanent root, it begins, it gives a notice of "shell being aquired" (i may be wrong on the wording.), then it vibrates the phone and shuts down. Any attempt to click z4root icon again causes a vibration of the phone. Thats all, app stays closed until reboot. Tried a few times, unsuccessfull.
I have checked a few of the other options, one was an update.zip file i found on here, but i got an error also. Then i see alot of forums mentioning flash back to 2.1 using obin, BUT most of those posts are from early 2011 ? Id assume 2.2 is capable of being rooted so much later.
So if any direction can be given, id apprecaite it alot guys n girls. For sure. Also, after root, if anyone knows of some good custom roms , or kernels.. (I do notice the lag on 2.2 BAD.)
I havent ever messed with kernels, but i did jus go thru issues rooting a metropcs wildfire S... OMG dont get me started on that thing of trash !!!....
Thanks again... ill await some responses as i search some more.
Ok so its a samsung vibrant galaxy s
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Ok... weird, but i was going thru some apps, and seen CWM needed an update, i updated it , opened it , and was asked superuser permissions.... Then went to terminal, and SU, and got the # sign. So it rooted without having to go back to 2.1 with odin.
So i am rooted now.... If anyone knows of good roms / kernels (im 100 percent unfamiliar with kernels... Roms,, ehhhhhh), for this now ?
Thanks again.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
ok.. guess noone can help ?
Did i post wrong ? I mean i did clearly state that i used the search options, and i am doing my own homework on the issue.. but still remain stuck on some of the issues at hand...
anyone ?
You likely would have a lot more responses had this been posted in the section for the device. There are a number of differences in the vibrant and the gs4g. If you still are not certain which you have, you could quickly tell by the battery... the s4g is larger. Look at the amount, google it.
Once you have the correct model, if you are still having issues go post in that section. From reading your posts, it sounded to me like you had it fixed and were now just looking for the best ROM to flash.
