Cyanogen-sense3 hybrid? - HTC Desire S

Maybe it's a dumb question, but is it possible to make an custom ROM with the OS settings and functionality of cyanogen and the base apps like contacts or mail from sense?
I'm asking cause I played around with both and I love the big configuration range of cyanogen but the apps of sense are more handy and eye candy!
I'm an developer myself but I must confess that made no ROM till now and i'm not involved in Android development, but I know that at least nearly all is possible with enough time^^, but the questions are: does it make sense (performance, ROM size, usability, effort,...) and are there any lawyers who could kick as for that^^

I'd be totally after the same thing
There's not many apps from Sense that would be essential, I'd like Dialer, Contacts, SMS and Calendar as the main ones (unless I've missed something obvious).

As far as I know sense is close source. If it was open-source you could merge some settings and then build it.
It's not possible for the moment, but you can always install CM7 and then install third party apps from Market such as a T9 Dialer, another messaging app, and so on.

I know, but cause there are many different ROMs based on sense out there, there must be something where you can go through maybe an htc framework thats inculded in the sense roms where the sense apps could fit. And this could be included to get it working, but thats just a suggestion^^
And yes there are many different apps out there in the market, but unfortunately most of them are not as handy. When i compare the sense mail app with touchdown touchdown isn't getting far, sry and the cost of touchdown is a minor reason therefor.
If i'm wrong please tell me

There's the Software Stack, is it possible to change an part of the application framework layer or isn't it as modular?

Oh I forgot that maybe a few libraries also must be added^^

hmm, i think this might help - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16488309
SpikePure S, a No-Sense ROM. This is the closest to hybrid as it can get. Nothing else is possible, yet

K, thx for that, but it's somehow turned bottom to top compared with what I suggested^^
Is it really as hard to get to it or is it just impossible? Maybe I take a look at it myself, but first I have to get much deeper into the whole Android development stuff!
Anyway, somehow someday there's maybe an solution!

Inquiry: Sense Desire "Phone Bar" on N1???

Hey guys,
Was looking to see if its possible to place the "Phone" bar at the bottom of the HTC Sense Desire and place it on the Nexus One, WITHOUT having to change the whole UI or rooting my phone???
Unless there is something like that as a home replacement in the market, no.
Thanks boss. Any suggestions on what to look it under?
as far as i'm aware its not possible as its part of SenseUI.
You could try HelixLauncher which allows you to drop icons next to the app drawer like iphone.
Thanks bewA. Tried it, its cool but hate that it kills the 3d effect when scrolling my apps on N1.
Thats why you use HelixLauncher2 buddy and you still have your pretty 3D scrolling

You da man. Thanks!
No, there was a replacement launcher you could use, it had the curved desire bar with phone on one side and browser on the other, but I can't remember who did it. It's somewhere in this forum though.
Thanks Kitsunisan. Sounds interesting. If you remember or come across it please let me know.
Flash Desire ROM? Heh. I know there's a SweeterHome 2 theme that does it, though.
Well
Okay i know we cant just pull parts of the sense rom onto a stock vanilla rom.
But do you guys believe that it would be worth sacrificing hours and hours of work to finally unlock this possibility? I believe so. I mean adroid is here to stay and if we could somehow create a hybrid stock vanilla rom it would be unreal!!
What do you guys think?
Kind of impossible. You need the Sense UI framework, which is deep in the ROM, and porting it to Stock is really pointless, because it would turn out to be the Desire ROM after porting it.
Totally, I mean there are some things I like about Sense but not all. Like their music player widget is a lot nicer than the stock music player on the N1. However I like the 3d effects on the N1 picture gallery and app menu which Sense doesn't have. So it be really cool to pick it apart and just install the widgets or programs or apps that really surpass the N1 without having to install the entire Sense UI.
Actually, just download the 3D Gallery apk and install it. I did it and love it.

Thats what i meant by a "hybrid" rom, as in a stock rom with the widgets also from sense or just selecting certain sense peices, just finding and working and serious trial and error to finally create one masterpiece...
This may seem impossible but i believe after hearing of working camcorder and camera on g1's with 2.1 eclair from Cyanogen, i think anything is possible from this community.

Can't for the life of me find where I put that launcher, it's going to be driving me nuts. But I'd imagine you could take the Desire launcher and copy the images for the bar into the three button launcher then resign it.
Ok so here are some of the workarounds I've done Im pretty happy:
'Helixlaunch2'- free on app store. Its not the sense desire bar but looks very cool, is actually more functional and maintains the 3d effects when scrolling through the app menu.
'Pure Music'- Provides AWESOME skins for the music player widget. Very customizable, I like the transparency manageability.
Also 'Pure Grid Calender'- Very nice looking calender widget.
I would like to give his thread a bump as it also interests me.
@kitsunisan please find the link
BUUUUMPPP! This is the most basic mod, I mean come on (of course, I'm not making it either). Anybody know where we can find this hero style drawer? Or at least a metamorph?! I found some for droid and 32b but none for nexus!!

So I'm thinking about doing a "Sense alternatives" topic...

For things such as calendar widgets, dialer, clocks, etc. What things should be included? Can anyone with Sense take a screen cap (using ShootMe) of the said widget/program and post it here? If it is a widget, please make sure it is the only one on the screen, and if it has multiple formats they can all be included on one screen. I think this will help people who are afraid to try AOSP ROMs out and show them that Sense isn't everything. I will give anyone credit who posts a screen!
Give it a go.. I always missed the sense widgets for the aosp roms..
I can post screenies
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G using the XDA app.
Please do. Don't forget things like the dialer and messaging app, please.
wait...do you want the sence widgets...or the replacement widgets we use in AOSP? Im confused..lol I was going to post the widgets we use to replace the sence widgets. Like the new LauncherPro Plus calender, people, and bookmarks to start.

I would like the Sense widgets and apps so I don't have to flash to a Sense ROM just to take screenshots. I'm then going to take screens of my replacements for them and do a brief writeup comparing them.
Good idea IMO.
Can't do screenies right now but I'm sure people will take care of it.
Personally, the new paid LauncherPro gives me the widgets I miss the most.

If someone doesn't beat me to it before I get home from the office (approx. 30 minutes) i got ya covered. I've already taken the screenies just need to get them up.
I'd love to see what others are using in place of the htc news widget as I've yet to find a market equivalent.
And, while Pure Messenger is nice and skinnable, k9 is wonky and i've never been able to get it working which leaves me no other option I've seen other than Sense to get a scrolling Exchange mail widget.
I know about touchdown but my god is it fugly.

Fancy Widgets

Havent seen much talk about fancy widgets in a longgggg time so here we go. Its an amazing app, the clock looks just like the sense ui weather/clock. You can use launcher pro plus to get the calender and facebook/twitter widgets and then use this for your clock/weather on stock vanilla android and have all the looks of htc sense but the performance of a stock android.
You cant download the app from the market anymore because of copyright issues, but here is a link to the .apk file. Just copy it over to your sd card, and use astro or another file browsing program to install it. Doesnt require being rooted or anything. You would think more people would be using this being that its free and looks 100000x better than beautiful widgets which you have to pay for. Let me know what you guys think!

well if it is against the rules then tell me and ill remove it. I figured since its not an app thats in the market with a price tag on it that it would be ok to post it?

Droid X Messaging App

Can we get this ported to the EVO?
Just the .apk would work, right? the DX's sms app looks so much better than any i've seen on any other phone. I'd love to have it.
give me some love, guys
+1 on this, but if im not mistaken this should go in the apps section
PM a Mod and ask them to move this to theming it'll get more attention there
+1 I can't stand the Sense mms app. Actually, I thought IncredibleDoes was developing a Droid X rom for the EVO and Incredible...
well it's been moved and other people are in agreeance, but it seems XDA isn't ever too keen to help someone out
I would like to see this as well since Handcent does not work well anymore on the EVO, its very very slow n it lags.

First of all, XDA doesn't do anything. That is simply the forum. It's the developers, many of them with jobs, kids and other responsibilities, that give up their time to help you. So at ease.
Secondly, if you had taken the time to do some googling, instead of posting a new whine every couple hours, you MIGHT have found: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/04/15/download-new-mms-apk-with-custom-settings/
EDIT1: Also, with a little more digging, i found the original APK from the droid x. http://rapidshare.com/files/431493880/Mms.zip
Anyone using this also getting fc when trying to change the font size ?
I was looking for this this morning. Well either this or the Vibrant/Galaxy S one. They're both similar. The Sense mms.apk is actually really good, it's just super slow.

Are u experiencing any lag with handcent?? Like when the message is received it takes like 5-10 seconds longer till the phone notifys me even tho im viewing the message thro the quick reply screen.
Everything seems normal. But there are some things you have to change. In send settings, you have to tell it to split messages or ones longer than one text wont go through. Set it to "split by word" for the best results.
Also, disable the lockscreen popup if you have the stock sense loclscreen since it wont work and will wakelock your phone. And lastly, disable the lockscreen from turning on your screen so it doesn't turn on in your pocket.

[WIP][APP] exMessenger- MiUI Style mms/sms clone

So I have been toying with the idea for a while and noticed the demand for a companion app for the now famous exDialer. Well good news, development has started. What I do need from you folks are some screens of the MiUI dialer in action and maybe some info on the features since MiUI is not available for my little P-500.
For devices with android 2.2+
Features so far:
Sms threads
MiUI themed
Send/Receive SMS
Screenshots will be uploaded later today as soon as I get the thread grouping solved and once I have the sms "bubbles" implemented
