[Q] Emergency calls only problem - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Suddenly my nexus shows this message: Emergency calls only.
and I can't call anybody and can't receive calls.
After the problem occurred I tried to reinstall the rom, tried to change rom, to change radio, kernel.
Tried to perform factory reset, tried to format the whole phone, including sd.
Tried to restore an old backup.
Nothing seems to be working...
I read somewhere that it might be something wrong with the efs folder or IMEI...
I really don't know how to fix this problem.
Someone can help me please?

Check your IMEI bellow battery and compare it with IMEI info in OS. If those two are different then it could be IMEI problem...
I have that problem, but fortunately my Nexus is still kicking...

this is happening to me too
i'm with mobilicity... left the city and the phone connected to Rogers roaming..
now i'm back, phone doesn't connect back to mobilicity... just gives me "emergency calls only"
tried flashing roms, radios, kernels, pull battery, checked imei... i'm stumped.
i swear the only thing i haven't tried is restoring to stock completely

flashed back to stock OTA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
now i can connect to the damn mobilicity network...

Not able to receive sim signal

Hello All,
I have a collection of problems in my samsung galaxy gt-s7562 (s duos) android 4.0.4!
Firstly, i dont know why and how this happened but my phone shows my EFS folder to be empty ( through all kinds of browsers ) , but i have everything fine (IMEI , wifi , phone ) except the lockscreen. After seeing this, i took a backup of my efs folder using EFSpro backup and the backup file size was around 20kb. I have tried restoring to a previous nandroid backup and many other things but none helped.
Secondly, due to the first problem i tried restoring my phone to stock rom. i downloaded the file form sammobile, flashed it on my phone using ODINv3 1.85 by putting the file in the PDA section and allowing ODIN to do the rest. But before all of this i had taken a nandroid backup of the phone. I lost my root and cwm recovery. Moreover, i saw that my phone flashed a yellow screen of info on the home screen. I dont exactly remember if the sim was working at that time or not. So since i wanted to go back so i flashed the recovery file through odin with suto reboot and fresettime checked. Then i went into cwm recovery and did a restore from there. It had restored succesfully but then i saw that my phone was unable to receive a network signal!! It showed signal when the phone starts then it keeps on decreasing, turns off and on a couple of times and then it permanently turns off!! PLZ PLZ HELP !!!!!! ;-( ;-(

You posted link on I9070 thread, I came from there. Lot of users had similiar problem with I9070 when they changed GB for JB. Factory reset from recovery helped. Try that.

[Q] Nexus searching for service

i flashed the stock images but after reboot, i did not have any service. it said it was activating but after a while it gave an error. :crying:
Are you sure it's not a sim card issue? Use your simcard in another device and see if it works.. Also, use any other simcard on your device and see if you get a signal..
If you're out of luck, then perform a factory reset from the stock recovery and see whether it helps?

Can't make or receive call

Hi, I am hariharan. I need help guys. i restored my nexus 5 from cyanogenmod 13 to stock android 6.0.1 by wiping my device completely and format data option in TWRP. Everything went fine during formating the data except one error
"flash image /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/metadata /dev/zero process ended with error: 225"
And normally i restored my device with stock android 6.0.1. My device booted up normally.
After skipping the initial setup i made a call to my dad,it went dialing for 20 seconds with out any ringing sound and ended. When others tried to call me they heard that my phone was switched off.
I rebooted and once again tried no change. I changed the SIM to another mobile and checked the SIM was fine. I tried every stock rom released for nexus 5 but no luck. I also tried many roms but still no change. I also installed modems from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...t/modem-nexus-5-flashable-modems-efs-t2514095 no luck in it.
But the data is working.
How could i solve this?
It could not be a hardware problem, as everything worked before the whole mess started up.

No service issue

All of a sudden my OPO started to show No service. But it detects the sim and imei shows a valid value. Wifi works properly but the neither calls nor data. Once rebooted the device shows Airplane mode when power button is long pressed but it is not shown in the home screen. It was running the latest OTA. I tried
* deleting APN and loading the defaults
* trying to turn on the radio via *#*#4636#*#*
* flashing the latest OTA via recovery
* flashing the latest factory image via fastboot
* flashing an old factory image via fastboot
* flashing an old modem via fastboot
none of those methods worked.
Please help me to bring my OPO to normal condition. Thank you.

Hey have you found a solution? My opo started yesterday afternoon running into a lot of issues with service connection and then just no service all the time. I tried most of the things you did and no luck went to tmobile and they didn't help much but gave me new sim which seemed to help some. I have some connection outside but soon as I walk indoors the internet drops to g or edge barely ever lte. And my connection is spotty. Its only been few hours with new sim so I'll see tomorrow if same issue persists.

I have the exact same issue as you and I haven't yet been able to find a fix.
I've tried absolutely everything including:
- Changing the modem
- Wiping the phone completely and reinstalling my Rom
- Trying every other Rom out for the OnePlus One.
- Reverting back to the Stock CM11 Rom that came with the phone.
Nothing helped my issue. My phone would just go from 4g in some places to 2g in others, And sometimes I wouldn't even be able to get a signal, it would just say "No Signal" or "No Data Sim"
I had similar problem few weeks ago, but also my sim card was not detected... My solution was to flash twrp 2.8.0.6 and flash OxygenOS TWRP compatible . This one https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24385658843824180 and after that everything has started working, IMEI , APN settings , sim card, and data worked... and after that you can flash whatever you will. And remember , always make a nandroid backup . Backups are real life savers out there. Let me know if that helped in your case.
I've just tried it. No success, same issue persisted. Not a big fan of oxygenOS anyway.

[HELP] My J3 Emerge from Boost Mobile keeps turning on and off...

I tried several methods before.
First was flashing the modem to work with GSM cards on calls and messages, but no data. I tried getting the MSL somehow but that didn't work. I flashed next TWRP without knowing anything about wiping the cache after installing SuperSU. I had to download the stock firmware again, and it was working stable until it shut down again when I flashed the new modem. I'm not sure what's causing the problem.
Keep in mind that I have two J3 Emerges, the one I'm modding and another one that has a cracked screen which functions very well. And I don't wanna mod the second J3 because of reasons.
EDIT: I just found out that formatting data via TWRP just causes the phone to behave normally, until somehow its connected to something... USB wasnt connected, and I think it has to be because of the phone checking the status of itself, despite being 'custom'.
EDIT 2: Found out, that the phone goes on a boot loop whenever I connect to the internet. Obviously, something must be going on.
EDIT 3: Looks like configuring the network was the issue... DANG. Anyone know of a way to bypass this bootloop?
