[Q] E-Mail stuck in drafts on Exchange and not going out via Gmail - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed the problem this morning during my commute. I thought Google was having issues with Gmail. I switched to my work e-mail (Exchange) and when I hit send, the item sits in drafts and goes nowhere.
If I create an e-mail with the Gmail app, I hit send and it becomes faded as if pressed or now unavailable and just sits there. Keboard still there and cursor just blinking waiting for another e-mail address.
With Exchange e-mail, I hit send and a few seconds later I get the pop-up saying the message was saved in Drafts.
Odd that both Gmail and Exchange e-mail are not sending. Everything else seems ok. Reading e-mail, web surfing, etc.
I tried clearing Gmail data with no success. I'll wipe my Exchange e-mail next and see if that does it anything.
I also power cycled it for good measure too.
Any ideas? I'm running the stuck ROM, but rooted using Universal Root 4.

Please disregard.
I launched Uninstaller to see if I had installed anything and hadn't thought about it. Turns out an app called "Seal" which was Amazon's free app of the day (yesterday I believe) was preventing e-mail from being sent.
Even when disabled. I uninstalled it and e-mail functionality returned to normal. Really disappointed in the Seal app, though.

Seal App Locker issue with Gmail
I have had the same issue with this one as well. Uninstall Seal, and Gmail behaves. It's a pity too. Seal looked to be a good app.

It really is a pity. I hope the dev figures it out in the end.
But for now, Seal had to go.

Push Email

Push Email?
Does android have it? I'm so confused by all this. I tried doing some research and the Gmail application says they have push, yet I'm not getting push. Coming from blackberry, I need my emails. I don't need them this second but I would like them to be there when I check, not having to go into every account and refresh.
I have Background sync enable and application sync. I am using Gmail application for 4 Gmail accounts and 1 yahoo account with K-9. I am not using any background killer application.
I have simultaneously sent out multiple email to those email address and they barely get delivered. I see the emails in my mail box on yahoo.com or gmail.com and even when I try to refresh my mail boxes on my GS4G, it sometimes shows up and sometimes doesn't.
Considering I have important work emails, I would like them to get delivered. Even if they don't get delivered right away, but as long as they do. And this is making me think that its sketchy. So is there push or isn't? Or are my settings messed up?

Yes, push works, haven't had an issue with it. Try clearing your data/cache from stock recovery. You may have to resign in. Try doing 1 at a time to test.
Could being on wifi be the problem?
I am using K9 and Gmail and they are both working perfectly. Personal and business email are delivered with moments, sometimes sooner, than directly into my gmail accounts.
Wifi or not, I always get my emails right away
Hmm, I don't know what can be wrong, I woke up this morning to see about 5 new emails in my inbox but none of them on my phone.

again try a factory reset, then add 1 at a time, send yourself some test emails, see if they go tot he phone, then add another, send test emails to both, see if they go to the phone, and so on and so on.
The push/poll/sync settings aren't at all intuitive for me in K-9 mail and I'm working through them now myself (on Android for only a week now). At least as I understand it, there is a setting for poll that is independent from that for push. Both need to be set up for the account, as well as the proper set of folders associated with each. I think some of that is behind the out-of-box behavior of clicking into a folder and not having it auto-update.
It's pretty flexible, but not what I would call user friendly.
As far as I can tell, you can set each folder in an account to be 1st Class, 2nd Class, or (none selected), for each of display, push, and poll, and then set, for the account, what you display, push, and poll:
* All
* Only 1st Class
* 1st and 2nd Class
* All except 2nd class
(display, push, and pull class are independent of each other for each folder)
I'm trying to figure out a "magic decoder ring" so I can wrap my head around it all.

[Q] GMail not syncing?

Has anyone noticed that what they do within the Gmail app on the Xoom isn't syncing with your desktop machine?
In other words - when I read or delete or change labels on an email in the Gmail app, I don't see the changes reflected if I go to my Gmail on my laptop. (They are still sitting in my inbox, unread).
Go into settings/applications /manage applications/all applications. Open Gmail and "clear cache ", them "clear data "
Ignore the warnings. Back to home page and open Gmail. You should be good to go.
That worked!
Thanks!
Sync hangs
I'm not sure if this is the exact same problem but I tried to send some large attachments recently and the sync seemed to hang all night. It would not send the email I originally was going to send plus three other I did afterwards before I noticed the issue. I was more concerned with sending these emails then checking to see if the sync error was affecting the receive mail process. Rebooting did not help so I ended up deleting the account and adding it back again. It took a while to do the normal initial syn but it seemed to clear the problem.
A week later I had the same issue although this time I noticed right away (instead of the next morning like before). I did a search and found someone advising to go into the Androids Setting then manage apps and then Gmail. To hit clear data and click
ck OK to the warning that tells you that all data, including any mail, will be deleted. I was not worried about the outgoing mail I was trying to send as I could easily redo it. This did work Ase I went into Gmail and it had to sync up withe servers but everything was back. The weird thing is that my message was sent and no longer under Outbox marked as "being sent". So either it sent it this time but was not showing this or it sent it real quick before I cleared data.
Either way it's fixed for now but who knows if it will happen again soon.We shall see.

Anybody else's native Gmail App delayed in receiving emails?

I mentioned this in the other thread about push, but that thread seems to be primarily directed at the Mail application.
In the native Gmail app, I typically see delays of 5-15 minutes from the time an email shows up on my computer screen and the time my phone eventually notifies me that it received the email. Every now and then I will get the email on my phone at about the same time that it shows up on my computer screen, but a vast majority of the time it takes 5-15 minutes. On one occasion, my phone did not get it for over an hour.
Anybody else having this problem? You would probably only notice it if you sit at a computer with your Gmail open in a web browser constantly. I see that I get an email in my browser window, and I purposefully do not open it or touch it just to see how long it will take my phone to notify me.
This occurs on both wifi and LTE.
I've previously had several Android phones and never had this issue. Sync is turned on, data on, ETC. If there are any settings I might not be thinking of, please let me know, but as far as I know the Gmail app itself doesn't have any settings for push/pull.
Edit: I will also add that, while I'm waiting to receive it on my phone, if I go into the Gmail app, the message is not there. If I manually refresh, it then shows up. So this is not merely a notifications problem -- the native Gmail app is actually failing to receive emails in a timely manner.
I had definitely noticed this in the first week or so of having the phone, but now that it's been about two and a half weeks, the GMail seems to be fine. Maybe I just got used to it, but I'll try and monitor it for a few days and report back here.

I believe most of us believe it's a bug in the OS.
My Gmail setup in the Gmail app or Email app gets the same random delays. I've tested it a day with the Gmail app and had delays. The very next day I removed it and tried the Email app and it still had delays.
I personally think it's gmail email related since my work email so far has been working 100% in the Email app.
Either way, there's no definite answer other than we all know the phone has email delay problems.

lol the Email app's a whole other story. At least for my ActiveSync Exchange account at work. Even with the syncing set to "push," my emails don't always come in right away. Actually the "Smart Sync" setting seems to work better (again, maybe it's in my head, I'll have to do more testing), as long as I "train" my phone to realize that I'm using the email app constantly throughout the day.

Email constant connection error

My email seems to be working fine. I can send and receive email and view the contents of my various folders. But, it seems like every time it syncs (e. g. Every time I send an email), it displays an error message saying it had a connection error. As shown in the attached screen shot.
I went into Settings / Accounts. I only have one email account and it's an Exchange Activesync account. It is set to sync mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks. I toggled the sync for each one off and then back on. After I turned each one back on, that thing would sync and then display this same error.
Any idea what's going on?
I have had this problem also, but only when I was losing a weak wifi signal, or I was VPN'd to my work network. Either of those scenario's playing out with you?

Idon't think so. Settings shows WiFi signal as Strong. And I'm not VPNed.
This happened to me today too. The same connection error, but with g-mail. I had to clear the cache and data of the stock e-mail app. Then, when I restarted the e- mail app, l had to re-enter my account info. Worked fine after that.

I've gotten that pop-up randomly from day one on my Exchange account. It's never impacted what the e-mail client's actually doing. I've even gotten it while I'm watching a ton of e-mails download properly like when re-connecting after a plane flight. So I'm treating it as a false alarm until proven otherwise. Hopefully an update makes it go away.

My connection error was constant but I was only getting it from the stock e-mail app. I could reproduce it consistently by touching the refresh icon. But, when I opened the g-mail app, it could access everything fine. The error wouldn't stop until I reset everything and re-entered all the account info.
Stock email has problems with exchange server. Mine was having problems with office 365. it happens to all sgs ii, iii and note 10.1 ics versions. You have to clear contacts auto complete list. After that it was working ok with emails but Splaner is still not syncing well, only one way from server to device.
To empty auto complete list, go to file, option, email, email sending, empty auto complete...in office 2010.

I had a problem with my email the other day and ended up doing a factory reset and reinstalling all my apps, etc.. I didn't have this error before that happened.
I will try clearing the app's cache, etc. and re-setting up my email.
Thanks, guys.
ps. my problem the other day was that I could not compose a new email message (including replying to a received message). That turned out to be because I had turned on Force 2D GPU rendering in Settings/Developer Options. I wish I had figured that out before doing the factory reset... *sigh* Just FYI.
Thanks again for the help. I deleted the account, Cleared data and cache, rebooted, re-created the account, and now all seems well.

I have this error as well. It does not seem to impact emails, but I have problems with S-Planner not displaying events. I can sync events with S-Planner both ways, but some events just won't display in S-Planner. I have not yet found a common cause or a way to reproduce a non-syncing event.
[edit]
Ok, I went ahead and deleted the account and added it back again. For now, it syncs alright, let's see how it goes.
I think what I did different this time was to create an Active Sync Account from the start, whereas the first time around I selected "Email" and then Active Sync at the prompt when you go into manual setup. Could this make the difference, how exactly did you guys set up your accounts?
Now I only have one other problem: when I first added the account, the Exchange events in S-Planner were a nice green, but this time they are kind of a pastel shade pink, which I don't like at all. Can you change the color anywhere?

Nexus 5 / Android 4.4 Stock Email App - Sync issues

Hi all,
Moved from a Galaxy S3 to a Nexus 5.
Everything is working great, with the exception of the stock Email app syncing with an Exchange account.
I connect to a zimbra server using the same settings as on he gs3. I connect fine and get all my email loaded. The issue is that syncing of the inbox doesn't work. Sub folders seem to but the main inbox will not even manually sync.
I have cleared the caches, removed and re-added the mail account and I still have the same issue. I can send emails fine. I have also factory reset the phone and still have same prob. Syncing is ticked in every possible setting and my gmail app push syncs fine.
Any ideas? I am at a loss and need my company email as I work on call in the evening and weekends.
Thanks!!
I have the same problem with my N5. My exchange email account would start working again if I force it to re-verify the account settings. But after a while, it would stop working.
I've been using Nexus phones since Nexus One. This is the first time we see an update on the default email app. But it doesn't look like Google has done a great job verifying/QA their app before releasing it to public.
I'm thinking to open up an official support case with Google support if you haven't already done so.
Actually, haven't you tried changing the Security Type in Incoming settings from "SSL/TLS" to "SSL/TLS (Accept all certificates)"? I just changed it on mine, and waiting to see if it helps resolve the issue.
I'm having issues with stock email client and company exchange, too.
When set to push, as i usually did on the n4, it won't let the n5 properly go to sleep, but phone keeps awake, and consuming quite a lot of battery overnight.
Sync also has stopped yesterday, but started again 2 hours later, therefore I'm not sure wether it's the n5's or exchange's fault.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for your replies. Yes I have tried this, I have tried every security method (except none, which defaults to SSL/TLS anyways).
I notice if I look under Accounts > Corporate and then my Exchange account, the sync / cancel sync animation is on a constant loop. My S3, for example, just sais 'Last sync at xxxx'. etc. Do you guys notice this also?
Something deff not right with this. How do you log a ticket with Google support? I have tried with Google Groups but getting no response.
Thanks.
Same problem here. Refreshes fine when I manually sync but push is not working. Was working fine on my Galaxy Nexus/Jellybean
I'm not experiencing any of these issues, my sync is working fine, as is the app and battery usage

I have had to move off the stock app and onto K9. My problem is that the stock app is deleting emails from the server when deleted from the phone, even when I make sure it is set never to do so. My account is a POP account and I have never had this problem with any other app on any other device. I tried recreating the account but it was the same problem.
6 people in the company I work for got a Nexus 5. I tried to set up one of their email accounts yesterday, but it wouldn't do anything. It seemed like it accepted the account, but it wouldn't sync any old mail, and it wouldn't notify about new mail. New mail would only show up about 15 minutes after being sent, and only after the inbox was manually refreshed.
Tried K9 mail. Same thing. I have never had any luck with K9 mail, though.
I'm hoping Google fixes this rather quickly. I'm a developer and I need my work email to always be available, because I am essentially on-call all day.
It seems like Google, in their rush to get KitKat out, did way less QA this time around than they have in the past.

This is similar to what I am seeing. After initial sync, I would never get any new messages. Check your subfolders if you have any, these seem to sync fine.
Whats the process to raise this with Google?

Subfolders were not syncing for me yesterday, however, I'll have to wait until my phone comes in today to really test this. Most of the people I work with don't set up their subfolders correctly in Zimbra because they can never get the filtering to work, and I am always too busy to do it for them. As a result, they make subfolders, but just drag-and-drop what they want in that subfolder from the main inbox-- an utter pain in the ass.
In 4.3, "Take Bug Report" is one of the choiced under Developer Options. If that is still present in 4.4, that would probably be the best place to do it.
If that doesn't work, there is always this: http://source.android.com/source/report-bugs.html
Same as I'm seeing too. Initial email download worked fine. Manual sync works. Push sync is not downloading new emails

Got mine working eventually by following this youtube video - GT5uHXLO298 - sorry won't let me post a link as I'm new! Just search YouTube for this reference number.
Took 3 attempts. First time it got stuck in a sync loop. Second time it stuck at waiting for sync. Third times a charm and now getting push emails.
Slick Google, real slick!

Thanks for posting the link to the video. My auto-sync data is ticked in the Data Usage setting. If I turn off then back on again, it still makes no difference to the sync.
The thing with my issue is that I cant even manually sync, if I try, it does not update any emails which have been delivered to my Outlook client. The fact it only affects my Inbox is strange too, my subfolders sync fine.

Yes, I'm getting the exact same issue. Exchange push sync is working fine, but the e-mail app is keeping the phone awake. My phone went from 100% to 41% battery in 4 hours! I have changed the setting to check mail every 5 minutes rather than push to see if this helps in any way.
I have raised this with our Zimbra provider, and they have said they have seen this on another 4.4 device and are currently investigating. Still not sure if its a Zimbra and/or Email App issue at the moment - I am leaning towards a Zimbra issue but will wait and see.
For now I would personally think oft an KitKat issue, as my problem persists with an MS Exchange Server, not Zimbra.

Zimbra Exchange Problems
I'm having all the same issues with Zimbra Exchange on my Nexus 5. Sync will work the first time. Then it will either stop or get stuck in a sync loop.
I have just been playing with the settings and seem to have gotten it to work for a short time (well more than it has done so far)..
On the mail profile set the Days to Sync from 3 days to 'All'. I also un-ticked the 'Sender Image' under General Settings. After a few mins, it ceased pushing emails again, and the sync loop was showing under account sync settings. Its like it was working whilst it performed its 1st sync, then died straight after
My corporate email account has been pushing and such just fine since I set it up yesterday, we run an Exchange 2007 server at my office. Not sure why it isn't working for you guys..

Hi everybody,
I have the sames trouble with my new Nexus5.
I had a Nexus 4 with an Exchange Push Account and a Zimbra Push Account. No problem !
Yesterday,I configured my Nexus5 with exactly the same configuration. And that is a tragedy !
With a perfect similar configuration, the Nexus5 is unable to synchronize email for Exchange and Zimbra ... For Zimbra Sync loop and drains the battery.
Let's hope Google responds quickly
I am reassured that I am not alone
