Hi all.
Looking for some serious help. Coming from a Samsung vibrant. I need help with how to save battery life on the sensation. I have been off charger for 5 hours and 51 minutes and am down to 41%. Is this normal? I have been only texting really. I got my data from battery monitor.
Thanks in advance. Anyway to make this better?

It all depends on what you're using the phone for. I'm at 55% after 12 hours. yesterday I got 17 hours. if all you're doing us texting then no,thats not normal. but I suspect you're probably doing more with it than you realize since its a new toy.

He prolly has running wifi as well?
Settings > Wireless and networks > Wifi settings > [MENU BUTTON] > Advanced > Wifi sleep policy > After 15 minutes
Stop Android from phoning home and you'll save greatly on battery life.
Best way I've found to prevent battery drain, is to stop Android from phoning home.
Once you use an app like Autostarts to stop unnecessary things from starting up all the time on their own and also block a couple ports that are not always needed via an app like DroidWall, you'll see great battery life. Also see other details in that link of things I turned off to increase battery life amoung other benefits.
For now, I can only speak for seeing the difference while using a Nexus One ROM on my HD2, but I have way better battery life, GPS lock times and faster device boot ups than ever before.
This is yet another one of the reasons I must wait till the Sensation is rooted and unlocked. Because I'm not using it while it's running things I can't better manage, so they don't drain my battery.

How did u get that much? I have battery monitor as a widget. I also did not charge the phone all the way up when I first got it.

Well to be honest for the 8 hours I'm at work, I use it light. texting, a few calls and about 30 minutes of reading pulse and playing games. However the next 8-9 hours I would consider moderate to heavy use. I have no monitors or anything running, just running straight out of the box.
I'm at 34% after 14.5 hours today.
I charged it fully the first day, ran it to 0, then charged it fully again last night.

Did draining it out help? It is really killing my battery. When my phone idles it loses about 7 percent an hour. Is this normal?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Mine is at most 3% per hour so I would say check if you have any running apps that aren't supposed to be.
I suppose draining could have helped but I have no way of knowing for sure

Yeah I killed my battery in 12 hours with decent use and then charged to 88 had to go but now down to 35 three hours later ....thinking of draining battery and then charging

Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
I think mine's even worse. Phone was off charger at 100% at 11am, by 1:30PM it's already down to 80%ish. By 4PM it was down to 40%ish, got it charged up to about 70%ish around 6PM, by midnight I was around 6% again.
So I think I'm losing around 10%/hr. That's gotta be abnormal, and the battery gets really hot too. At the moment, I have several speculations:
1. Death grip causing the phone to work harder to find signal, and tmo's coverage kinda sucks in my town
2. I have defective unit/battery
3. Some apps behind the scene are killing it. But I've checked what's running behind, even turned off unnecessary stuff using autorun manager. Auto sync is turned of only for gmails. Weather, IMAP mails, pulse, facebook etc are set to pull in couple hrs instead hourly. The battery life cannot be worse than my 2-yr old HD2.
Hey guys. Have you considered bump charging. HTC advised the idea for the HTC desire battery and it in most cases doubles the battery.
Sorry I can't be more specific bit I'm on my phone. I have found the relevant link. Read the 1st post. I'm gonna do it when I get in from my gig.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990
Bump charging kills the battery in long run.
If you have to do it to a brand new handset it can't be good news.

I'd suggest uninstalling battery monitor. I had installed it on my g2x and immediately saw my battery percentage drajning more quickly. Probably because its always running in the background.
The best tip I can give for better battery life is to minimize what you allow to run in the background. Get rid of any task killers, set Facebook/Twitter/Email/etc to sync less frequently, turn off wifi if you're not using it so its not scanning for networks, and so on.
Also install juice defender from the Market. Its free. It has greatly increased my battery life.

I installed the Plus version because it allows wifi control. I just use the default settings except I change so it doesn't disable wifi. I do that because I use wifi calling at home so I dont want Juice Defender turning off my wifi. I always turn it off manually when I leave the house anyway.

Yea Balanced Settings is good if you don't mind it managing your wifi too. In the Plus version I selected Customize instead of Balanced. The only thing I changed was the wifi setting. There's a ton more settings to configure but the default ones work fine for me and I don't have the patience to sift through them all anyway lol

Hello all,
I have been having a situation with my phone where while I am using the phone and the battery reaches about 80 - 75% the phone just dies without even shutting down, and when I turn it back on the battery is at something like 1%. Even more strangely, if I turn it off and wait for like an hour then reboot, it is back at 80%. I have calibrated the battery, so I am sure it is not a calibration issue. Also, this has been happening on every rom that I use. I had a Vibrant but traded with my father but I have the battery from the Vibrant even though they are the same.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I have discovered this is due to the battery itself and not a calibration error. I am using a new one now with no problems. Thank you very much for the suggestions though.

You need to calibrate your battery. download the battery calibration app by nema from the market. Charge your phone to as close to 4200mv as you can. Calibrate in the app. unplug phone immediately. Let it die completely. Charge it back up with no break

Quite possibly a bad battery. Your battery shouldn't drain when the phone is off.

Does it drain when the battery is removed from the phone?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
you should download a cm7 nightly my battery lasted from 10pm - 9am with 30% than i put it to charge
You can either do a factory reset or NVFlash CWM and flash a ROM to see if that fixes things. If not, then defective battery.
What these guys are saying is most likely, especially with that kind of drain. But also make sure you don't have any crummy apps, it apps that run when your phones off. Ex. Some weather apps run in the background and draindrain

You guys. He said that his phone was OFF while the battery lost its juice. It has NOTHING to do with what ROM, KERNEL etc etc he is using. Now for the op; simply just get a new battery and check if the problem persists.

Try the same test with the battery completely removed.
If it doesn't drain that fast - Then the phone is not shutting down properly, and most likely is the result of a nasty app.
If it does still drain that fast - Then the battery is probably faulty.

In your original post when you said you turn the phone off at night, you do mean actually turning it off right? Like shutting it down and not just turning the screen off, right? Just making sure we're all on the same page. If the phone is powered down then it can't be an app because apps can only run when you're booted into Android.

Then its the battery. I had the problem with my g1. I would load the maps and use gps. It would say my battery is around 70% then after like 5mins the phone would get hot and then it would say i was at 30% or lower. Swap out for a new battery and it didnt do that anymore.
My g2x is kinda doing the same thing. But its a little slower. I turn the phone on in the morning 100% battery. Then use it for about an hr. (95-80%battery) put it in my pocket. Then about 2hrs later it at 40-35%. And the phone feels warm.
Also check your battery to see if it had a lump on it. If so then its a bad battery and needs to be replaced asap.
I ordered a replacement on ebay should be here by next weekend. Only $4

I had a problem like this and still do at times. Part of it was the stock kernel I was running and the other part was the fact that the phone was not fully going into the low power state it was supposed to. I now only loose about 5 to 7% in the worst cases. That is better than the 20 to 30% I was loosing before.
What ics ROM have you guys the best results for battery life? On AOKP, I'm getting like 8 hours with 20% left. I don't use data because it kills the battery fast.

Prepare to be flamed for asking this question. Not sure why, but everyone seems to get their underwear in a bunch when this question is asked. Just a heads up.
Anyway, I had the same problem as you. I had the exact same setup as I did on CM9, but had much worse battery life, even after multiple fresh installs. I also don't have any widgets or many apps that sync very often. It seems that you just have to wait for the OS to "soak in." Make sure that you wait at least 10 minutes before doing anything after you flash the ROM. Just let your phone sit. After that, you can go into settings and tweak the phone. Also, try to go into the power saver settings, and setting sync to turn off after a set amount of time (I put 15 minutes), and for data to either turn off or turn to 2g mode after x amount of time.
Also, I'm sure you know the obvious.. turn off wifi/data/gps/bt/etc. if you're not using it. Set brightness to low or automagical.
I began with ~7 hours of battery life, and got to ~14 hours. Typically I don't have to be on battery power for 14 hours, and I tend to end up having ~35% of battery life after a full day of use.
Well I'm just asking how everybody uses their phone and hoe much they can get with it. Not saying that the battery life just sucks. I'm supportng my battery life with details
And i don't use many widgets either. I took off my live wallpaper too,i waiting to see how that works out

How is your signal where you live? Do you use your phone as a mp3 player? Have you seen this yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/Why_is_media_server_using_my_battery
Not everybody will get the same battery life. If you are getting good battery on another ics rom and not another it is user error. Even if you are getting good life on gb and that kind of life on a ics it is a user error. Next time just flash and dont restore any data at all.
My battery life problems are pretty much not there anymore. I'm running AOKP M6B3, and getting 16 hours with 25% left, mild data usage, Facebook, GMail push, GVoice push, always on 4G and wifi on too.
I think the key was a Heimdall to stock, then to AOKP.
Yep. That's what I've been recommending to people complaining with battery on CM9 and AOKP to do. My battery life is great, and I use GR every time I go to a new build.
Well, to be fair, I went stock to AOKP M6B1, installed apps. Then just did an upgrade flash to B2. But still, much better battery life.

I clear the battery stats and use all aokp features such as turn off wifi data when screen is off. I also have auto bright on and screen time out after 15 seconds. Im not here to convince you. A hundred people can report good battery life and then two people come and complain and people will start asking why.
This is probably one of the worst phones on battery life that I have ever had... No matter what I do, what tweaks I use of what rom I'm on... I always only get 7 to 8 hours of battery with 1 hr screen on time.
I honestly have no idea what to do... I'm so sick of it. Anybody have any suggestions?
Seriously?
I have been on my phone all day with a full charge and I still have about half the juice. I am on stock 4.0.4 ICS. The one that droidstyles has in his guide. The Rom that came with my phone sucked on battery. This Rom works great for some reason.

What are your settings on? Post your settings (like screen, whether GPS is on, ect), a lot of times it has to do with your settings. I used to have so-so battery life but I tweaked some stuff in my settings and am very pleased with the phone.
Believe me, if you want bad, try the Droid Charge. Worst 4g phone I have ever had in terms of battery life.
This is on clean rom. Ignore the screen percentage, going down since this was a recently flashed rom.

Possible Idea
Don't know if this problem could occur with different ROM's, but I had issues with a runaway process that kept showing up. Maybe try Developer Options -> Show CPU Usage. I noticed that one called gsiff_daemon kept showing up at the top and was making my battery drain extremely fast. Everyone on this forum said it was a common issue and that it wasn't a crucial file, therefore I should just change the name so it wouldn't get accessed.
On RLS7 and kt kernel? This kernel has capabilities for overclocking/underclocking & overvolting/undervolting. By default your min Mhz is set to 384. Go into ktweaker and lower it to 96, test your phone out with a scaled stress test (play store app for stress testing). Then you can also go into the extra settings of ktweaker and set the Mhz for when your screen is off in addition to the governor (many options of which some are powersaving labelled).
If you want to save more battery read the kernel's thread to see starting undervolting values and lower from there while testing your phones limits. More undervolted you are, the less battery your phone uses for that particular frequency.

You obviously never had the thunderbolt, now that battery sucked. You have to let the rom settle in and your battery will improve. Usually for me the first day not so good after that everything is fine.

I had a Thunderbolt. Yep, now that was poor battery life.
My S3 gives me 12 hours if I use it heavily. Typically, at 16 hours, I still have 40% remaining. I leave WiFi, bluetooth, and GPS on 100% of the time.
As bad as your battery is, I would suspect that you have a poor radio signal.and the radios are cranking up the power to work. Try using WiFi or turning off mobile data for a while to get the LTE radio turned off.

This. For example, I have a 4g tower nearby at work, normally (4-5 bars). But sometimes it disappears, and I end up on a 1-2 bar 3g tower for the day. On those days, my battery life is around 8hrs max, barely using it. On good signal, even with crazy heavy usage (4hrs screen on and lots of 4g web browsing) I can get over 8 hours.
Signal strength has a LOT to do with battery life.
