Yes, everytime you change ROM with differente bootloaders, wipe everything, factory reset, etc ...
Make a backup first.
With similar ROMS, just wipe system or dalvik cache (some ROMS already do that automatically)

For me it was the Samsung keyboard that kept fc...switched to an alternate keyboard ..now all good...

So i wiped the cache and data,
and it worked fine for like 2 hours, but now im getting crashes
of android.process.media (force close) What do i do?
Edit: so i just browsed zedge with their application, and I got another force close of it... (zedge)

Can anybody help me??
its on page 2

Its on page 3!!
Please help me!

Today I decided to update my Aria AT&T to Froyo, however i have some questions prior doing this:
1. How can I back-up all my data that I have on my phone?
2. Can I fully de-brand my Aria AT&T phone? How? Link?
3. If I debrand it, will I be able to use updates directly from HTC for "naturally" debranded arias?
4. Which Froyo works best? Is there an 100% working one?
I understand that search button is my friend, but unfortunately it is very difficult for me to follow all the info found on this website, especially when english is not my mother language. Please excuse my newbeeness

1. Once you have rooted your Aria, boot into ClockworkMod and perform a full 'nandroid' backup of your current rooted system. You can use this as a restore point in your ROM flashing adventures. But as far as retaining your current data when you flash a new ROM you are more than likely going to have to reinstall all your apps on the new ROM. For your contents, you can sync them to your Google account and when you load a new ROM and enter your Google account during setup you can resync your contacts.
2. The Liberated Series of ROM are HTC Sense ROMs with all of the AT&T bloat ware removed. You can get either the Eclair 2.1 version (Liberated R012) or the Froyo 2.2 version (Liberated FR008).
3. As long as you have a rooted phone, there really isn't any advantage to getting an official HTC OTA update. In fact, chances are when you take an OTA update from HTC, you will lose root. Best advice is to wait a few hours and let the devs come out with a rooted, flashable version of the HTC update to preserve your rooted environment.
4. Personally I prefer CyanogenMod 6.1.1 for my Froyo ROM of choice. I have also tried Liberated FR008 and it retains the HTC Sense interface. Best advice is to try them and see which one you like best.

Let me sympathze with you... i have been there.
So let me try to explain a little and there are some videos to help
The first thing you will probably want to do is 'root' your phone - by doing this you are invalidating your warrenty - but heck - who cares - what you want is a phone that runs the latest OS right and provides you all the goodies that ATT keeps you from......
Check out these links
http://theunlockr.com/2010/08/02/how-to-root-the-htc-aria-unrevoked-method/
and
http://theunlockr.com/2010/08/02/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-htc-aria/
they might help
ClockworkMod is what most people use , it provides you the ability to
perform a back up (nandroid) as well as
install Custom MODs (the reason you are here isnt it?)
I would suspect you would want the latest MODs - to do you should look to the forums - as they change every so often.
The good thing is - with the MODs and ClockworkMod - changing these ROMs are fairly simple. Just download the ROM (zip) , copy it to your SD card on the phone (use USB) - then boot your phone (turn off , ON in a special way ) into Clockwork MOD, Wipe the Caches, install from SD (find the ROM you put on there)
bingo - new Mod.
If you like the HTC Sense flavor - then currently - you will probably want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819715
If you dont need or want HTC Sense and want something different - try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821642
(dont forget the google addons too)
They are both excellent ROMs - and would recommend you try both at sometime and decide yourself - and yes - they are both very stable.
As for the HTC Over The Air version - I wouldnt install it - period.
We seriously need someone to devote a sticky thread for all of this.. Like a ROM Bible if you will.. It would help out tremendously.
Edit:
Looks like Notatreofan has one, but it needs severely updated.
Thank you guys for your responses.
I managed to root my Aria and CM6-6.1.1-Liberty works fine.
However, when I install Liberated Aria Froyo Series FR008 I get the following message on my start up screen:
"Sorry! The application settings (process com.android. settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." "Force close"
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

When you switch between CM 6 and Liberated ROM you need to make sure that you do a "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition" and advanced -> "Wipe Dalvik Cache" before you flash the ROM.
Also make sure that when you boot into clockwork your phone is NOT connected to your computer. Having USB connected when starting up clockwork makes funny things happen... well actually, not so funny. =)
Well, I was only doing "wipe data/factory reset", i guess this is the problem. Now i ll have to clear some data to try it again, only 52mb left from the sd...
Now it is time to do a search for a nice theme, and get the radio working. In regards to the radio, I downloaded some apps however they all work with the web, not the transmitter

I followed both advices but still no luck, the Liberated Aria Froyo is still not working

Any more guesses?

Have you downloaded a new copy of the Liberated FR008 and tried flashing that? It sounds like either the ROM zip file is corrupt when you flash it onto the phone or the wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache and dalvik cache is not working correctly.

Here is the link that you should be downloading and flashing:
http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/liberated_aria_FR008_signed.zip
The "FR008 Default" is a kernel option that is already included in the ROM link above, so you don't need to worry about it. The only reason you would need to flash it is if you decided to try the Hong Kong Shipping 2.2 kernel and then wanted to switch back to the FR008 Default. You are correct in that you would flash these from ClockworkMod by using the Install ZIP from SD Card option.

OK, so let's assume that you have a good ROM flash at this point and it could be data corruption. I would boot into ClockworkMod and do another 1) "wipe data/factory reset", 2) "wipe cache partition" and 3) Advanced -> "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and then reboot the phone and see if that solves your issue.

It does take a few minutes to boot. If you're waiting for 6-7 minutes or more, you might have an issue.

Asus transformer tf101 going crazy

I have transformer tf101 (Honeycomb 3.2.1 + 16GB + Dock) that I purchased in August 2011. For first 6 months I was on stock ROM and everything was working fine. After that I flashed Android Revolution HD 2.2.0 on my tablet and then it started behaving crazily . Whenever I open browser it will automatically start zooming in/out, scrolling. It will totally go haywire and will start clicking left/right.
I searched on net and found that some of other unlucky guys are facing the same issue . I have attached a .txt file that contains the link to you tube video depicting the problem.
I have tried many ways such as using superwipe script and then reinstalling the ROM's. Even, I have tried with new ROMS(ICS one's) that are there but still the problem does not seem to go away. I have searched a lot but could not find the solution to this issue. Can somebody please guide me how to get rid of this problem. I believe this is the best android forum where I am hoping that someone will help me with this problem.
This is really basic but have you tried cleaning the screen?
Other then that, have you tried going back to a HC rom and see if you don't have any issues. I understand you want the latest and greatest version rom but to determine a fix and narrow down the problem maybe you should try all the alternatives.
Thanks for replying. I had cleaned up my screen and there was not a single app/widget on my homescreens. I flashed back to HC ROM but still the problem persist . I have tried all ways of flashing th ROM's but still the problem doesn't seem to go away. I have not tried the stock ROM for HC that came with my tablet (i didn't take the backup when I flashed new ROM).
Looking at the issue it seems to me as if this problem is software related rather than the hardware. If this would have been hardware related then I should have got this on day1 of my purchase.

And dont forget to wash your hands (Im serious, that actually affects the responsiveness of the screen)
I cleaned my screen (Literally ). The problem is still there . Can it be because of the browser. I am currently using Dolphin HD browser for my browsing. I will probably install stock browser and will check with it.
Your text file is rubbish too...no link, it's actually the HTML code for an error 404..which is funny.......not only is it not a working link, or even a link at all, it's a 404 in HTML..LMAO
Sorry for the bad attachment. I have the link.doc containing the link.
Yesterday, I tried with the stock ROM and everything was working fine till the point I connected my tablet to Wifi and upgraded my Google Market to Play store. As soon as the app was updated the same problem started recurring. Now I have uninstalled the updates for google play store but the problem is still there. But the good part is that the frequency of the random zooming/clicking has decreased and it happens in browser only. Earlier it was happening in all the apps. Can somebody please direct me to the link to US stock ROM (for HC 3.2.1). As of now I am running WW_ stock rom. I just want to try out the same with US_ stock ROM as well.
First of all, don't use super wipe script. Just wipe normally with CWM.
Do these options in CWM
1. factory reset/wipe data
2. clear cache partition
3. wipe dalvik cache
4. mounts and storage -> format /system
5. mounts and storage -> format /data (this is done by factory reset but just to be sure)
Get the official ICS rom from Asus' website. US or WW doesn't matter.
Flash it with CWM after doing the wipe procedure above.
Don't let google sync or anything restore any kind of back up.
If the same problem happens again, you got a problem that requires RMA.
Honestly it already sounds like you need to RMA but you should make sure before wasting money and time on RMA.
I will try these steps today. I never did these 2 steps while flashing ROM's
1. clear cache partition
2. wipe dalvik cache
I am just curious to know as to how this problem started when it was not there till the point I flashed a custom ROM.
I have a big problem with RMA. I purchased my tablet in US and so it has North American Warranty. I am not residing in US. Thus for RMA, I have to ship my tablet back to US which will be expensive as well as an overhead . So I am planning of trying all the possible steps before I have to ask the Asus support in my native country. Please let me know if you know any stable version of Stock ROM. I read and found that some of the stock ROM's are having serious issues with Wifi/GPS etc.

YOU HAVE TO DO THOSE. Wipe dalvik cache is under Advanced.
I am using CWM 3.2.0.1 for recovery.
I am just hoping that it should be software/flashing issue.I just don't want to go for RMA .

i would first get on the newest version of recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16557195
it is touch based, but i just went into cwm and the regular method of volume and power keys work fine. AND you have to store the rom on the internal sd card in order to flash, it can't access the external card once you update.
and personally i'd wipe EVERYTHING like 3 times seems kinda of the standard.. i'm super ocd so i wipe it all 5 times before i flash.. might want to pick up an ASOP rom like
EOS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520764
or KANG:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542302
see how that works.. could always pick up the stock ASUS rom though
FYI: to flash those new EOS and KANG roms you NEED to be on that version of cwm i linked
I have tried with various ROM's that are there in Development section but the problem does not seem to go away. I will upgrade my CWM and will check with stock ROM first. Once this is done then I will go for other versions of ROM's.
Just a quick question, for flashing the stock ROM for ICS i.e 9.2.17, I have to download the firmware from ASUS website and then flash it normally the way we do for other ROM's ?

All this could have been caused by you never wiping cache and dalvik cache.
Yea, download the ICS firmware from Asus website. It will be in a zip. You extract it once. It will have another zip. That's the flashable zip.
You flash it in CWM like you would do for any other ROM.
Yes, I never wiped cache and dalvik cache.
I will check this today and will post my observations. I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that this should solve the problem.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks horndroid for the lovely info...It worked.
I cleared the cache and dalvik cache and then I flashed the new revolution 3.2.0 (ICS) Rom and as of no complaints. I have been using the tablet continuously for last 3-4 hours and no issues as of now. I am hoping that it continues to work the way it is functioning right now. I am loving my transformer again . I will use it for few more hours and will update my observations. I am still keeping my fingers crossed.
Moreover, Revolution 3.2.0 is awesome(Thanks to Mike and his team). Very stable and the GPS is awesome. Sitting in my room it acquired my position(No Wifi) within seconds.

Yes. This is worth pointing out again and again.
Most roms (in my experience) wont even boot unless you wipe cache and dalvik.
And the roms that do boot runs like ****.
Now I have used my tablet for 16 hours..No issues..Running perfectly fine. I believe wiping cache has solved the issue.
I was reading about dalvik cache and came to know that during boot Android always create this cache (if it is not there). So if this problem comes again, can I wipe the cache and dalvik cache without flashing a new ROM. Is this advisable?

Legend 3 ICS Edition Update

Hi there. I currently am running the Legend 2 ICS Edition ROM for Infuse 4G. I just noticed there is a new update Legend 3 ICS. If I want to keep all my files and apps, do I just flash the Update file (instead of the Full Wipe file)? And do I need to go through the same process, clear cache, dalvik cache, etc.? Probably no need to wipe data and factory reset.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

I suggest do a full wipe, if you want to keep your app, "tibu" titanium backup is great and well worth app, buy it...I did and worth every dime. IMHO Tibu will and can backup your apps and restore them.
So I suggest get tibu, backup your apps, do a full wipe install Leg3 go back to Gplay download/install tibu back on, then use the program to restore your apps only in this case.
Plus tibu can do a full backup of your data & apps, say you find your DD but want to test other ROMs, use tibu to backup data & apps, go test the another ROM, and want to come back to your DD ROM, you can then do a full data & app restore...plus there are lots of YouTube vid on Titanium Backup app.

You can do the update and keep your files, which is the reason for the update. Though, like Bigjoe says, a full wipe is always prefered, but not necessary.

The reason why everyone suggests a full wipe is so that you dont potentially run into any problems after the flash. ie flash not working, or camera wont load... little things like that that make it hard to narrow down problems. One of the main things people are going to ask is did you wipe before you installed? It helps to eliminate and remnants of left over roms so that you dont have any issues with the new rom. Its called a Bad flash.
I hope i answered your question!
Thanks for all the replies! So whether it is the full wipe ROM or the update ROM, both go through the same procedure of booting into CWM first? I will try Tibu for app backup! :good:

So I've been using your latest release (full wipe Legend v3) and I did factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, etc. The phone is occasionally laggy now, usually when I open web browser it would stay on the white screen a several seconds. Sometimes, when I open my phone, it would stay on the black screen even though I never turned it off and it still has battery. So I had to long-press the button to restart. I've already rebooted and shut down numerous times but these problems still persist.
Also, bluetooth doesn't work for me. When I enable it from settings, the "Turn bluetooth on" checkbox stays unchecked and does nothing.
Should I reflash again? I did to a Titanium Backup to restore apps and settings... Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

With any rom, you should be able to install More Locale 2 from the Play Store to get support for Turkish (and many other languages).

My bet is the tibu restore of your settings is what is causing the issues, I've had problems and have known others that had problems when restoring system settings with tibu, especially if the tibu backups were done on another rom.

I only started using tibu when I had Legend ICS v2 and then I immediately upgraded to v3 using the full wipe ROM. And then I restored all apps and settings. I'll try wipe and re-flash without restoring any settings in tibu. But honestly, I only wanted to backup my widget and screen settings (such as app shortcuts on home screens) but tibu didn't back that up.

I'm a noob so I don't know what those are. But I've only flashed ZEUS final and then Legend ICS v2 and v3. Full wiped and cleared cache on all those flashes.
I've reflashed to stock and then back to Legend 3 without restoring anything. It is all better now, very snappy. The bluetooth can be turned on now but for some reason, it doesn't detect my Jabra headset no matter how many times I scan. But it detects my Macbook Pro...

Jelly Bean ROMs caught on boot animation

Sorry, I'm new and I understand this is where I have to post. I hope that's right. I've looked everywhere and none of the other posters' responses have helped me.
I have a p7510 which for the moment is rooted stock. I've used other ROMs: AOKP, CM9, CleanROM. They all work fine but recently I tried CM10 and eventually another AOSP JB ROM because I was desperate to exhaust every option. I know about wiping cache, Dalvik and data and formatting system so that's not the issue. I've also switched recoveries and recovery versions, reflashed stock and rerooted, tried again and again between wipes-- I even started to wonder if maybe I just wasn't patient enough but I waited over an hour with no results. Whats the deal here?
I've got the same freakin' problem on my Wildfire S w/ CM9 alpha 7-rom. Bootscreen for over an hour. Cleared cache, installed rom and then gapps with CWM. Starting to wonder if it's the hboot or something.
An answear for what we noobes (maybe just speaking for myself ) is doing wrong, would be fine :good:
(Would have posted this in the developers thread, but i got >10 posts on XDA...)

Did you do the following? In order and full:
Make a backup
Format data
Format system
Format cache
Format dalvik cache
Factory Reset
Install ROM .zip file
Install the latest (unless otherwise specificed) gapps .zip
, but as you stated, you've supposedly done all of that. The only other thing I can think of is that the ROM might be corrupt and cause a bootloop. Look at the dev thread to see if others are experiencing the same issue. Also i'd recommend TWRP instead of CWM.

I'm sorry to hear that but I'm also glad it's not just me, and wouldn't be a huge stretch to call me a newb.

Unfortunately, I've tried both recoveries already. I've gone through each step every time and I've never done it that specific order consciously, but I feel like I must have just by chance in all the times I've tried this. I'll try again though exactly like you listed and see what happens. Thanks.
No dice. I'd like to give more info than that but I don't know what else to try.

[Q] G2x stuck on hellfire sign after LG with blue splash

Hey guys, I don't think I did anything weird but anyway. After I get out of Wifi sometimes I have to reboot so the phone can use mobile data, I am on hellfire sandwich btw. So this morning I tried to reboot once I got to school but the phone sometimes freezes while rebooting and I have to take out the battery and same happened this morning. Took out the battery put it back in, started the phone and once it goes to the hellfire logo with orange thing going round and round, it stayed on that screen for about 30 minutes and i tried rebooting several times no luck. :crying: I could get to CWM recovery but is there anyway I can back up my files? I have some really important stuff also could you link me to a solution? Early thanks.
(1) try wiping cache and delvik cache in cwm and fix permissions, then reboot, if that doesn't work, (2) try making a nandroid backup, then wipe everything, then restore, if that doesn't work, (3) try flashing the same rom over your current one, if none of the above work, (4) try flashing a different kernel, or finally (5) try flashing the same rom over your current one.
One of these should work, if none of them do, then you're probably gonna have to wipe everything and flash the rom again, which will cause you to lose all your data.
Good luck
Also try deleting the tweak script in system/etc/init.d use my tool and launch AROMA File Manager, use menu button to select to mount system and data (partitions), then navigate to the folder and delete the one script.

Yeah I think flashing the same rom will solve the problem but one more question, If I just want to flash the same rom do I just delete delvik cache and cache? also will that make me lose data such as like how far I got in angry bird or my pictures or phone numbers? or what does deleting cache and delvik cache delete?

No you won't lose any of the things you mentioned above. It will however reinstall any system apps that you uninstalled. But just to be safe, make a nandroid backup
