Poll: App to translate gamepad key presses into touchscreen pressses. - Xperia Play Themes and Apps

Poll:
Question:
Anyone interested in an application that will translate key presses on the Xperia Play gamepad into touchscreen presses?
Would you buy such an application?
Extra:
Post what applications / games would make use of such an app.
Reason:
I started working on making such an app. But I realized, it probably wouldn't be that useful to me. So I wanted everyone else's opinion.

Yeah, I'd pay a few dollars. I'm from Ireland and I'd pay like 4euro, which is like 6 or so dollars

As it would optimize loads of games for our device, it'd be sweet....definitely worth paying for.

I made a thread about such an app ages ago.
If it works with analog sticks I would definitely buy it.
Browsing the net by swiping the touch pad would be cool.

i would so buy this if it allowed us to use the web browser and d android games using d touchpads

I would like to try it, sometimes I hate to touch the screen for whatever reason, after cleaning it (it is a real fingerprint magnet) with a cleaning cloth, I'm even thinking of replacing the factory installed screen protector (or shatterproof layer... whatever) with thinner rougher screen shield.
but hey, that's a good idea.

Be great if you can make an on screen cursor for web browsing, then copy and paste as well would be great. There are some games/apps that have fiddly on screen controls, would be great to be able to use these well, as well as being able to see what you're doing!

I just use the D pad and it can scroll thru all the home screens x is enter and circle is for back, it also works in the browser to scroll up and down to click on links
Sent from my R800a using XDA App

I'd just like to see the Triangle button be used for the Settings button in everything, much like the PS3 and PSP.

I'd also love a feature to remap keys, specifically to the touchpads for games that use the d-pad, and for games that aren't very intuitive in terms of touchpad and keys use!

Yup, it would be possible. Not sure if it's worth it just for the browser though.

Not going to happen. I don't think Android supports a cursor, so that would take some real development.

This would be hard / impossible. You would have to change the function of the button based on what you were doing. (Change to MENU when on MENU Screens, Change to PLAY button during actual gameplay.)

Fortunately, it does Of course, it'll still need work, but here you have a cursor, and on a Xperia phone.

You'd need to use a bluetooth device, though. The LiveDock is not compatible with the Xperia Play.

I reckon toy should do it, is help if you need any also, although I've not made an Android app before, but did programming at uni!
there is prob a market for this with pull out keyboards as well, maybe even for bt game pads!
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

It would be nice if you can translate dpad or touchpad inputs into accelerometer tilts for those flight sims and racing games that don't support the xplay's gamepad.

What about using the gamepad as a PS3/PSP-style physical keyboard?

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but is there any progress in this? Are you still going to make it? I am thinking of getting into android development again and might do something like this (no promises), but I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

Go for it, it's on my queue of apps to make but I haven't even started yet.
If your serious, we can work on it together if you want.

Asus needs to turn off touchpad while typing

On most laptops the touch pad is turned off while tying. This is great for fat finger people like me who constantly hit the touch pad while typing and end up all over the page. Would love to see this option added.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
There's a button on the top row of the dock to disable the touchpad. Just push it before you start typing.
You're touching the touchpad when you type due to improper posture. The proper posture is to elevate your palm to the same level as the rest of your hand, this gives you the fastest response and decreases ergonomic issues (it gets more tiring but you'll get used to it)
And also, my hp doesn't turn off the trackpad while typing. Just fyi =P
Yeah, supposed to elevate your palm. ^^^
i've never ever seen a laptop that automatically shut off the trackpad when typing.
but yeah, just press the button. it takes a second.
Speaking as a piano player, I see bad posture all the time with both musical and electronic keyboards. The thing that ticks me off sometimes is that these people blame the hardware instead of their bad posture. It's like holding a phone upside down and then complain that the phone was built upside down so they couldn't hear what the other person was saying. Ridiculous.

Same here. I opted to adjust the sensitivity so the cursors wouldn't jump around as much.
Pretty sure it is an option to turn it off in windows since vista and Apple laptops also do it.

Wow... I'm seriously all for the support and discussions within forums to help others with their problems, but seriously? Before you suggest what a company should or shouldn't do, maybe you should read the manual for all the features.
Turning off the mousepad IS an option on the keyboard.

I think the op was referring to auto turning on/off when typing - well, that's how I read the subject line of their post.
I agree it should be automatically done, there wouldn't be a need to have an on/off button if it is done automatically. not everyone has perfect typing posture and some people have fatter palms than others!!
I'm pretty sure that this is option in mac and windows synaptic drivers ('palm detect' option or something... This is even achievable within linux if you mess about with xorg.conf files, do a google...

op means auto-off for the trackpad while typing...read twice please
Notebooks don't tend to turn the trackpad off. Rather, they build the ability to differentiate between palm touches and intentional touches into their trackpad software. That's what I'd love to see Asus do, because as much as I try to maintain good posture, I've run into this problem quite a bit on my Transformer.
I'm guessing that'll be resolved in a future update...

That's because some touchpad drivers have an OPTION which you have to turn on where it will disable touchpad when typing or when a mouse is plugged in. Not one laptop that I know of would do this automatically.
Secondly, I really thing your're being picky beyond reason. I mean the Android keyboard already has every possible shortcut on it. All you have to do is hit the mousepad key and it's done!

The OP is referring to "Palm Rejection" which is a feature that the touchpad / touchscreen firmware has to support. For Synaptics, they call it SmartSense.

Which would likely get very annoying having to do it every time you stop typing and need to use the trackpad.
I honestly have had better luck anyway leaving it off. I use the keyboard for typing and my finger for navigating. It works great and i haven't used the trackpad in days.

[APP] Touchscreen Booster (Increase touch sensibility, smoothness, multitouch)

Hey xda followers!
I have a hardware problem with my Transformer since the beginning and was too lazy to change it by a new one...
My problem is that I use my device with no problem but sometimes I am loosing touch inputs...
If I let the Transformer go into sleep mode alone and unlock it, I have to force lock and unlock again to have good touch responses back...
Then I can have a good session of 30 minutes of use without any problem and then, randomly, touch input precision is lowering, until I can't use it anymore and I must lock and unlock rapidly again...
Very annoying problem for sure...
But today I decided to search through google, forums, xda, to have a beginning of solution to my problem.
And I found THE Touchscreen Booster application.
It's an application that was made for Viewsonic G tablet at the origin. The famous Bumblebee discovered it at first so thanks to him for that. And the thread talking about that is from gojimi. He modified the application to be more easily usable. So thanks to him too!
Being an android application and having titanium backuped all my applications, I thought: why not trying!
So I installed it and launched it... AND... TADAAA! Just incredible. It worked, no problem at all, no force close, no freeze, nothing.
AND: touchscreen inputs are incredibly smoother, sensitivity has been greatly improved, response time between writing letters is better, multi touch is improved... It's just paradise. I don't know if you tried Ipad but the result is that type of sensitivity...
This application can be used by all types of roms and for people who have problems with touchscreen sensitivity or just want a bigger one
Please leave here your feedback, positive or negative, and remember, do it at your own risks, I am not responsible of the potential problems after applying this application.
It worked for me, my Transformer had never been so smooth, so why not yours!
Maybe you will have to launch the application some times, when you feel that sensitivity was better before, or after boot... But you can put the application on your desktop and touch the button FixMe!
Share, enjoy, and say thanks

Seems to have worked for me....the keyboard doesn't seem that much more responsive though...the screen transitions are alot more smooth.

This probably edits something in build.prop and other system files, so yes. I'll confirm this once I try it.
EDIT: Doesn't require root. I feel no difference though...

Well, when you launch it, there is no SuperUser action popup to allow the application so I am not sure that you need to have root access...
And, yes, it has an effect on every touch app (try writing a message before and after applying the apk or try playing angry birds, there is a big difference)

SO i gave this a shot and some aspects do seem smoother to me. None of the handwriting apps i tested were any diff as before the test.
I already had what i felt is a smooth responsive touch screen, but was curious to see if it was going to get any better.
QUESTION: when you run the app it says after hitting the calibration button "Follow the directions exactly"
I hit the button and it says calibrating screen dont touch, but no other directions.
Am i missing something here or is that the extent of the directions...
All in all not sure if it is just a placebo or if it is actually smoother. I suppose others with really bad touch response may see an effect.

No, it really is not a placebo, believe me. It was even more noticeable in my case (read my first post about my hardware problem) but even when my device was ok, it wasn't so smooth as it is right now.
For the instructions, you don't miss anything.
The important thing is "DO NOT TOUCH SCREEN WHEN CALIBRATING" because it could screw up the calibration, and if you do the opposite, the result would be that you wouldn't be able to use the device anymore, because not being able to relaunch calibration (if you have the dock, no problem at all )
That's all

So, to people who tried this application, what is your appreciation now after one week of use?
Anyone for some feedback for who has used it for about a week now?
With my TF I have a "dead" / "very unresponsive" line (about 5 mm wide) under the camera over the length of the screen.
This is very annoying when opening the market (difficult to select the search field) or when trying to tap the taskbar when the TF is rotated 180 degrees.
Sometimes it works normally, so I do not know if it is the ROM / Kernel or just unresponsive hardware.
Could this solve it?

I tested it a few days ago and it was way better than expected.
You can walk with the dpad, but all other Play controls are not integrated yet.
The game itself was smooth and lagfree (+30 fps), but the bullets are delayed a bit.
One thing that I really do not like is that there is an aimhelper, but thats it.
I think this will get a really nice port.
Hmmm...
Downloaded an old version 1st by mistake and it worked perfect.
But then upgraded to the latest (1.97) so I could use my Xplay controls...
Now it just hanfs on 'Map Loaded, Connecting' when I try to join a server....
Any ideas why?
It worked great on the older version (minus xplay controls).
Thanks/

Forget the noob questions:
1) What would be gained from 10 point touch (i.e. benefits)?
2) What does HTC gestures actually do for us?
1. Some apps require more points. i.e. a guitar app forming a chord.
2. htc gestures is only for the 3 finger swipe up for "Media Link HD" which is for wireless screen mirroring.

Nice one (I was wondering wth htc gestures were). When I first saw it I was hoping it meant for things like lockscreen gestures, etc.
We really need a sticky for tips, etc for things like this. I know we have limitations without root but I bet there are still quite a few little tips/tweaks that would be helpful.
Nice tip. I was wondering why some gaming was failing. Downloaded xmen from amazon app store yesterday and the joystick kept screwing up while i pressed the other keys.
I was having a problem where my phone would go to Media Link while I was on calls (guess my face was rubbing it and kicking off the gesture). Turned the gesture thing off and no longer have that problem.

Black Ops Zombies Android GamePlay

My Viedo i Just Uploaded For Black Ops Zombies Controls are a little slow the game does not lag for me and overall its a good time passer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0pneL-bWYk&feature=plcp
Nice video, as for the controls I've figured out why the movement and aiming is so slow. The game calculates movement all the way to the most extreme edge of the touchpad so in order to move as fast as possible you need to put your finger as far out of the circle as possible while still barely touching the edge. Hopefully they add some sort of deadzone for the far edges; Shadowgun had this problem as well but to a much lesser extent.

Is anyone else having a simile/same issue? And no I don't want anyone with a sub zero username photo responding to this because if its going to be another incredibly annoying and pointless comment about ICS then keep it to yourself. I think I speak for everyone here when I say to stop moaning like a child and either be happy with what you have now or get a different phone and move on.
Anyways, yes its rebooting and no I have not figured out why. Suggestions?

Personnaly I didn't encounter any problem playing this game. I reached the sixth wave without any lag (I set the quality to low) or reboot.
I'm running Gin2Jelly Lite without overclock or memory optimizing app. I just wish I could change the "joystick type", I prefer the swiping method on the touch area than the emulated joystick.
iyaaa ,the control are so bad ,like MC 2 ****ty . . .better using screen to control the camera
Do you keep many widgets? , what ram scripts or apps are you using?
Try running a "light homescreen" (no widgets) , uninstalling chainfire , maybe set a less agressive profile for whatever ram app you use.
edit : i also would like to mention it runs fine with me at max settings.
The game is very good, but wait... analog stick emulation? AGAIN? I'm sure many people still remember early Shadowgun releases and its crappy aiming... i hope they will fix it...

I like the virtual stick aiming in Shadowgun. I use it & think it really works with that game. I didn't even know there was an option to play with swipe now.
As for CoD Zombies though, I totally agree. The aiming is horrible & at the very least, needs an option in the settings to use swipe if you want.
I also hate it when a game forces you to use the left touchpad for walking, over the option to use d-pad.
You use stock right Greg? On my stock Play it runs very well with the graphical settings turned down to about 50%; I never got to far before changing settings so I'd imagine I or others would have the same issue when more zombies appear. I can confirm at lower settings I've gotten to about level 15 in both Kino and Call of the Dead (I ****ing love Call of the Dead, the "Nemesis" concept works incredibly well) and the game holds up incredibly well even at that point. I'm not sure how we'll be if any of us make it to level 100+ however . Once again, gotta say I absolutely love the controls and with auto-aim off I get headshots left and right. Make sure you guys keep in mind the "deadzone" issue which you can work around but obviously we'd be better off with that issue fixed.
@Headed in all fairness, the game manages to use every single button including the D-pad so I think its forgivable in this case.

Personally I would donate to cover the cost of mehdi's therapy. Obviously not getting ICS left him a broken man. A Soniopath?

I lol'd so hard at these comments, everyone knows this guy and everyone seems to think the same about him
Maybe the awesomeness of his xperia play broke the poor man's mind. Can someone who knows him throw the thing into MT. Doom or something?
ONTOPIC: No regrets on buying this game yet, runs great on LuPuSUIv0.5
Oh yeah... I think I wont be buying this
Aiming looks really bad. I just cant understand, WHY do developers insist that they must use emulated thumbsticks instead of swipe ???
I literaly have closed my gamepad while playing BC2 and MC3, atleast the shoulder buttons work ;_;
Brothers in arms was the worst... I just tapped my ADS button rapidly walked foward trying to aim with my screen sailing around like a drunk hobo.
I uninstaled that poop.
Can you use "swipe" controls with touch screen ?
BTW: I would cry out of all the laughter if Mehdi would play on PS3 while he keeps on crying about Xplay...
