Flash recovery again, root if you haven't done yet, boot into Android, delete or rename install-recovery.sh in system/etc (need root and a file explorer that can read/write, eg Super Manager), flash recovery again.
(all recovery flashing is done in fastboot)

it is because of the nexus s gingerbread auto reflash to stock recovery .
put brainmaster's flashable zip cwm in your sd , then you no need to keep flash the recovery d

[Q] Clockwork issues

Okay so I rooted unlocked and flashed clockwork with the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970237
But when I try to boot recovery from bootloader the screen goes black then just pops back up to the boot loader and wont let me access recovery if I check in rom manager it says I have clockwork but why cant I access it.
Did you do this step in the process.
4) Tap and hold on the file "install-recovery.sh" and rename this file to "install-recovery.sh.old".
This is needed if still on stock rom.
If not you have to flash recovery in rom manager everytime you reboot

That's the stock recovery, not CWM.
You have to boot into bootloader mode then flash CWM recovery image from there. After flashing, select recovvery in the bootloader menu and you'll be in CWM.

Sounds like you did not remove /etc/install-recovery.sh if you've already flashed CWM and rooted.
This script is going to install the stock recovery image on each reboot. Boot up - remove / rename this file through root explorer or something similar (or adb if you like) and then reflash CWM either via fastboot or Rom Manager.

My phone is S-OFF, Can I flash it with virtuous_unity-v1.31.0

Hi,
I'm new to HTC Desire S....My phone is S-OFF, do I have to root my phone or can I simply falsh it with virtuous_unity-v1.31.0.
Cos I read somewhere that the phone need not be rooted when flashing with custom rom.
u need root and clockworkmod recovery to flash
You just need recovery to flash the rom. The custom roms are prerooted !
I've tried rooting wiith ZIP file....I've downloaded the zip file "su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed" and copied it to SD card and restarted the phone and clicked on RECOVERY, after that recovery screen appears and few seconds latter another screen appears with RED TRIANGLE and EXCLAMATORY mark on it...........
I've even tried the GingerBreak 1.2......when I clciked on ROOT MY DEVICE, phone got stock at ROOTING Process screen for about 40mins. I manually restarted the phone but the process was unsucessfull.
I even tried to flash with virtuous_unity-v1.31.0 as its a custom rom and they are pre rooted but again got stuck at RED TRIANGLE EXCLAMATORY screen.I had to manually restart again.
Where am I going wrong.......why am I not able to root my phone

You need custom recovery and flash it over bootloader. Look in recovery threads you find it.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
Download clockworkmod recovery and rename it to PG88IMG.zip and copy it to SD.When you start your phone in hboot,it will recognize PG88IMG.zip as an update package and it will ask you if you want to update it.press yes. Then you will have installed clockworkmod and you can then boot in recovery mode. After you do this, download ROM,copy it to SD and when you go to clockworkmod, there is a selection that you can install a .zip file from sd card, choose rom and wait

Don't forget to either rename or delete the PG88IMG.zip folder or it will run every time you reboot...

Can't flash custom recovery on a XT925

Hi,
My wife just got a new phone and gave up her old XT925 so I thought I would try to put CM or SlimKat on it and let my daughter play around with it. But I'm having trouble putting a custom recovery on it. I've unlocked the bootloader. I've used fastboot to write the recovery image...but when I try to reboot directly into recovery so the binary update can complete, it pauses for a couple of minutes and then reboots the OS normally. If I try entering reovery after that, I end up with the dead android with a red exclamation point in him and "no command" written below.
The phone currently has 4.4.2 and System 181.46.3.XT925.RCI.en.CA. Am I out of luck with this device and stuck on 4.4.2?
Thanks!
What recovery did you try to flash ?
Use this one, it worked for me :

Thanks. That one worked. I wonder why I had trouble with twrp.

Its because you need to rename the stock recovery to .bak at the end of the file name. The stock recovery is getting in the way of you rebooting to TWRP or what ever custom recovery you are trying to use.
If you cant figure out how to do that or don't know where in system the stock recovery is just hit me up and ill give you the path to the file. After you rename the file just go back into fastboot and reflash the custom recovery and you should be able to reboot into TWRP or what ever custom recovery you want.

[Q] HELP! Can't flash ANY recovery or rom! xt1032

Hi, first, thanks for reading. Second, i've already searched de whole google world, and inside all this threads, but....
I CAN'T FLASH ANY RECOVERY! I don't know why!
In fastboot, i put the commands for flashing CWM, TWRP, Philz, and it works with no error. But, when i select the recovery option in my xt1032, it always boot the CUSTOM recovery. What can i do?
And sorry about my english, i´m from argentina.
Thank You!!
Hi. I don't get it. TWRP or CWM or Philz is custom recovery, so if you flash them to your device, of course the stock recovery will be replaced by custom recovery, so when you select Recovery option in Bootloader screen, of course it will bring you to a custom recovery. Yesterday I flashed all kinds of recovery in order to flash ROM (flashable zip file) into my phone but it failed all the time, so I decided to install stock firmware by using mfastboot (and removed custom recovery also).

If you want to flash a custom recovery, you need to have:
- Minimal ABD & Fastboot. Extract it into a folder.
- The recovery's .img file from its website. Its name may be very long, so you should rename it into something shorter, for example "newrecovery.img". Put this file into the same folder that you've just extracted Minimal ADB & Fastboot.
- Boot your phone into Bootloader screen (by first keep holding your Volume Down then press Power button for a short while). Connect the phone to your computer. In your computer, open the folder that contains Minimal ADB & Fastboot and the .img file of the custom recovery aforementioned. Now hold Shift key on your computer's keyboard and right click your mouse on the blank space of the folder. Choose "Open command prompt here''. When you see a black window, type:
fastboot flash recovery newrecovery.img
then Enter. The custom recovery will be installed right away. After that, choose Recovery on your Bootloader screen and the custom recovery will open. Yesterday I read on a website that some ROMs overwrote your custom recovery when your phone rebooted so that might be the reason why you cannot use the custom recovery you've just installed. I don't know how to solve this as I'm just a noob.
However, why do you need to install custom recovery? Does your phone still work properly? What kind of ROM are you using? If your phone doesn't work since the ROM has been messed up, I suggest you do a fresh install as this thread tutors: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219. After restoring your phone to a good state, you may try installing custom recovery again.
