Can't flash custom recovery on a XT925 - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My wife just got a new phone and gave up her old XT925 so I thought I would try to put CM or SlimKat on it and let my daughter play around with it. But I'm having trouble putting a custom recovery on it. I've unlocked the bootloader. I've used fastboot to write the recovery image...but when I try to reboot directly into recovery so the binary update can complete, it pauses for a couple of minutes and then reboots the OS normally. If I try entering reovery after that, I end up with the dead android with a red exclamation point in him and "no command" written below.
The phone currently has 4.4.2 and System 181.46.3.XT925.RCI.en.CA. Am I out of luck with this device and stuck on 4.4.2?
Thanks!

What recovery did you try to flash ?
Use this one, it worked for me :

Thanks. That one worked. I wonder why I had trouble with twrp.

Its because you need to rename the stock recovery to .bak at the end of the file name. The stock recovery is getting in the way of you rebooting to TWRP or what ever custom recovery you are trying to use.
If you cant figure out how to do that or don't know where in system the stock recovery is just hit me up and ill give you the path to the file. After you rename the file just go back into fastboot and reflash the custom recovery and you should be able to reboot into TWRP or what ever custom recovery you want.

[Q] [i9023] Blank/Black screen in recovery

Hey everyone,
Basically I was trying to flash a new ROM onto an old Nexus S of mine and when I tried to boot into recovery there was just a black screen. I pressed the power button and a single line saying "Clockwork mod Recovery" and the version number popped up. I assumed that the recovery must've been corrupted so I erased it and installed the latest version using fastboot which seemed to work fine.
Now whenever I try to boot into recovery I just get a blank screen with nothing else. I've tried using other recovery images such as twrp but the same problem happened, I just get the background wallpaper/image and nothing else.
I searched the forums and apparently people were having this issue earlier on when the i9023 was first released but now most custom recoveries are supposed to work with both i9020 and i9023.
Also the touch buttons light up and vibrate whenever I touch them when I'm in recovery mode.
Any help to this problem would be greatly appreciated as atm I have an old ROM which is buggy as hell and I need to get rid of it.
Cheers!
I had the same Issue. If you can boot into the rom, you can try to download the rommanager-app and install the recovery from there.
Hey I tried that already that and instead of booting into recovery it just went into the bootloader and said "No Recovery or Bootloader found".
Any other ideas?
Did you clicked the first point in rommanager? Install recovery, or you only hit the second button reboot into recovery?

Hey
I have the i9023 and I install rom manager. install CWM and if I reboot into recovery it works and I get in to CWM recovery.. but after reboot into os.. if I go into Rom manager and reboot to recovery it dont work? I just get the android figur and a "!".. then I just can Power + vol up and I'm in bootloader recovery..
Do I have to install CWM every time i want to use it? and can't I access CWM on boot op ?
sorry for my bad English
Normaly you have to flash the recovery only once.
Try to flash the newer clockwork-recovery with fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
Alfiedk: You need to get rid of this file:
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh
As it re-installs the stock recovery every boot.
I think you can download any custom ROM for your phone, and flash it in CWM recovery, this will also solve the problem
Edit: Did you unlock the phone? Have you tried fastboot oem unlock?

I havent unlock my phone, but I can get in to bootloader is it then necessary to unlock ?
I try to delete the /install-recovery.sh
Yes you need to unlock your bootloader, if you dont want to reflash it all the time.

Yes I made sure I selected install clockwork mod. Like I said the problem isn't the same when I do this, instead of a blank screen, when I boot into recovery it goes straight to fastboot and tells me that I don't have a recovery image installed at all...

what happens when you try to temporary boot into the recovery?
instead of "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", try to "fastboot boot recovery.img"
Just look for an recovery.img that works temporary and then try to flash it permanently.
I'll try it and get back to you Xziped. If anyone else can think of any other ideas please just throw'em at me, I'm willing to try anything!
Yeah no help there either. It does the exact same thing temporarily booting into a recovery that it did when I actually had it installed on the phone :\.
I updated ROM manager to the latest and tried installing CWM with that but to no avail. It still says that there is no recovery installed when I do that.

Sorry but if not even the temporary recovery boots up, i dont know what else we can do
did you try some of the older recoverys? is your bootloader unlocked?
I haven't tried an older recovery and my bootloader is unlocked.
could it be a problem with my computer as opposed to the phone itself? As in my computer is messing up when trying to flash the recovery?
I've also noticed now that when I boot into fastboot mode the menu just locks up and doesn't respond to anything. Sometimes I have to pull the battery and other times it'll start responding after randomly pressing the power key a lot of times...
I'll try an older recovery next

Use Odin, that might solve your problems. Search for the Nexus S version of Odin in the Dev section here.

[Q] Odd CWM bootloop

Hey guys, I installed CWM on my buddies HTC one S (ville) and I keep getting a weird problem with CWM. I have successfully flashed CM10 multiple times and have made only one back up. Every time his phone dies and he plugs it in and tries to power it on it boots straight to recovery and after you press reboot phone it boots right back to recovery again and again... The only way it fixes itself is when you restore the back up and then it sets him back to that date. I'm wondering if this is a problem with CWM or something else... I'm new to HTC devices because I have always been on the Galaxy line from Samsung so some of this is a little new to me...
Thanks in advance!!
This is a known glitch with CWM. If you plug it in when its off and try to turn it on, it'll automatically Boot into CWM Recovery. I prefer TWRP personally, had too many problems with CWM and getting into the same exact pain-in-the-neck Bootloop as you're referring to.
As far as I am aware, there isn't a way to get out of the CWM Bootloop unless you just let the phone run out of Battery, get into the Bootloader (Which is somewhat of a challenge with the CWM Bootloop), and then flash a different Recovery from Fastboot. Correct me if i'm wrong on there not being any other way around this.
It's happened to me once, I flashed the.stock boot.img and it worked fine.after that. Not sure if its a fix but it got me outta of it.

Thanks guys I think I'll try TWRP but just to check does CM10 work with TWRP and if so how do I flash a new recovery?
yes cm10 worx with twrp. For flashing recovery, download d appropriate recovery.img for ur device. place this in the fastboot folder or the platform-tools folder.
now, boot into bootloader and enter fastboot then connect phone to PC , it should say fastboot USB .
Now open a command window and use this command---
fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img.

Cyanogenmod 10 does indeed work with TWRP as far as I know. Along with mihirengg19's Reply above, there is also an Alternative way to flashing a new Recovery, and that is to use the HTC One S All-In-One Toolkit. Its the easiest/safest way, if you don't know what you're doing.
yes toolkit is great but manually is best...

A700 - Can't go into Recovery Mode ,OS OK, Root OK, FBoot Unlocked

Hello Guys,
i have made something wrong. i wanted to install the OTA JB Image from internal SD and i was thinking it would work with CWM.
First step i have made is, unlocked the bootloader with adb.exe etc...
The Second Step was to get root and superuser (here maybe i have done something wrong) but in the end i got superuser to work with a patched bootloader or something.
The Third Step i installed CWM and started to flash the recovery image.
But it doesnt go any further, if i try to go into recovery mode, it stucked always at the message "boot recovery kernel". from here its frozen.
i have two recovery images to choice with CWM, One is calling TeamWin Recovery Image and the other is the CWM Recovery. But both doesnt work. I tried to go directly from CWM to the recovery mode and with the Power Button and Vol + Method. Both not working. If i try to boot manually first it says "it update via sdcard" or something, and immiadately it follows the message "boot recovery kernel" and stucked....Nothing happened
Thats a big problem because i cant update anymore and i dont have an externel sd card here. And via google i cant find a solution to this problem.
Is there a Method to install a new Recovery.img via adb? that work properly?
Maybe someone can help me out?
Greetings
Jack
Sorry for my bad English.
[EDIT] i have solved the problem by my own. I've flashed the wrong recovery img. Now i have flashed that version for ICS with vorbeths Easy Root. And now i can Update the version. Hope there will be no more problems...
Please steps

Cant RCK tf300t

Hi, Im trying to install cm 11.0 on my tf 300t, im trying to install TWRP. The boot loader is unlocked and the device is rooted. I tried get into the fast boot menu but cant. I hit Power and vol down and get into a new screen with a row of 3 icons. I see the RCK and hover over the button for 5 sec... nothing happens. I waited for 5 min an nothing happened. I then tried to hit the volume up button but that fails and re boots me into the OS. Im running 4.2.1. Is there a Fix for this problem? Can I install TWRP another way? (maybe through ADB?) Thanks

The first time you install TWRP, it should be through ADB (fastboot). Flash it from your computer. After that, you will be able to flash ROMs from the recovery menu on the tablet.

AHAHHAHAHA IM SO STUPID xD. On android 4.2.1 you dont get a message, you can just send the file over through adb. Nothing happens if you hover over the screen. Thanks for the help.
Now I have another problem, both TWRP and CWM don't have access to any files. They still boot up, but they don't have the ability to install or find any files or create logs. Im getting the errors saying nothing can mount.

Did you flash the 4.2 TWRP file? CWM has no version that woks with the 4.2 bootloader, except for the one in the flatline.img for NVFlash. If you flashed the regular TWRP recovery by mistake, follow the instructions here to recover, and start all over again. Remember to choose the correct recovery.

Ok, so i'm assuming I need the openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-tf300t-4.2.blob file. I DO have access to fastboot, can I just flash over the other Twrp recovery installed? Or do I have to follow the steps at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44244313&postcount=12 ? Thanks.
So I ended up flashing the blob file, and it did work. But when I tried installing CM11 I got an error and it shut down. Now I had a boot screen of the ASUS logo, flashing on/off every 20 sec. BUT I did make a backup, and was able to restore the system from that. Can anyone tell me what I have to wipe/do to install CM 11 on the tf300t? Or even cm 10.2 if its easier.
some (maybe) useful info
- I can boot into fastboot
- I can boot into the OS
- I do have a backup in case anything goes wrong
- I have twrp 2.6.3

6039y unblock from stock recovery

Hi, I screwed up my phone (soft-bricked) trying to install TWRP and now my phone is stuck on the logo, it just stays there forever...
I can boot into recovery, but I can not boot into download mode, because as soon as I plug my phone in, it goes straight to the logo screen.
Basically I need a way to restore my boot.img - I have tried using the Alcatel update software but my phone will not show the battery screen because it is always stuck on the logo screen. If there is a stock update.zip please can I have it!!!
Thanks,
MasterDoctor
Update: I am trying to create my own update.zip to flash using the stock recovery software. I can now confirm that the problem is definitely caused due to the boot partition. I stupidly flashed TWRP to the boot partition and not the recovery partition using the Flashify App. Anyway, I am downloading an update.zip for a Nexus device and I'm going to try and hack together a zip to get my phone working.
If it works, I will post it here. If I haven't posted with another update, the problem is still ongoing so feel free to post with an idea.
try to repair your device using the official alcatel upgrade app. I think you will not be able to make update. zip flashable trough stock recovery since you will not sign it properly to be flashable trough stock recovery.
