Hi there,
I'm very new to Android and the rooting procedure. Basically, I switched from an iPhone to an HTC Inspire 4G after 4 years.
I'm going to try and root my phone tonight, and also unlock it and put HTC Sense 3.0 on it, but one thing I have been unable to find is a stable ROM for Android 2.3 that is as close to the stock version as possible. It may be right under my nose, but I haven't had any luck. If anyone could provide a download link, or a URL that points to where I could find one, that would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
Best one for HTC sense 3 is CoreDroid. My opinion.

It might be best for you to not jump right into rooting your phone. Spend some time seeing how your phone works out of the box and what you might want to change. During that time spend time on this forum just reading and gathering knowledge. The more you read, the more answers you will already have.
Just my suggestion.

I really like the new sense 3.0 functions that are ported on the coredroid 6.5. P.S. It might be better to root before you get all your apps setup and installed like I did. Then I had no way of backing up since I had no root access and had to setup everything from scratch again.
Thanks for all the help guys.
darkside, I've actually had to phone for about a month now. Funny you mention using it and seeing what I'd want to change, cause one of the first things I did after a week of usage was make a small list of just those things haha.
In addition to unlocking the Inspire, and putting Sense 3.0 and 2.3 on it, the only other thing I really want to do is get all of that annoying AT&T bloatware off. That, and find something that can fix the battery life. I have no idea how to do either, so I think I will take everyone's advice and do some more reading before attempting this.
I'm using MIUI and its doing excellent for me.

Excellent advice.
You really, really, really should have a baseline by which to judge subsequent roms you flash.
Otherwise, you'll never have a full sense of what's working better or worse than something else.

Are you using the MIUI Rom here in the US on AT&T....and do you have any problems with apps in the app market? I want to find a decent GB rom but it seems like most are geared more toward the UK.
For example I'm using ClearDroid, I do a search in the market for the "Xfinity TV" app. It shows right up...I jump on LeeDroids rom, and no "Xfinity TV" app to be found.....And thats with installing Morelocale2 before setting up my google account. Obvioiusly I could care less about the app....it just makes me wonder what other apps are hidden from my view.

Well, finally rooted my Inspire and settled on the RCMix3D ROM for HTC Sense 3.0 and Gingerbread. Thanks everyone!
Where is the rom that gets rid of bloat? Where is cyanogen? Any native aosp roms?
shoot- i didn't mean to post this in the main thread. How do I delete?
It would seem to me that the same script that disabled the bloatware in temp root would do the same for perm root and could be modified to remove rather than disable.

There is absolutely nothing "inconsiderate" about not wanting to use a Sense-based ROM. No matter what the other chefs do (unless they build from AOSP), their ROMs will be bloated with Sense trash, and some of us don't like that one bit.

I think patience is what we need to have right now. Yes CM7 is coming for us, that is a given based on the screen shots we have already seen from kmob. Also, now that we have S-Off, I would expect that more developers will start to bring us their AOSP Roms. At the least we will see kanged versions of CM7.

Not inconsiderate... just the FACT... (in my case) will not waste time on ANY Rom... that's correct... any problems? I know every single ROM out there... from mike's Revolution HD... LeeDroid, CoreDroid bla bladroid... and non of them offer the true potential you can get out of your hardware as CyanogenMod does. RomManager full compatibility, and even the Android Store is full of CM7 customizations... ADW is really robust and there is no HTC Sence on this Earth that can get even close to ADW's complexity. Well that's only my opinion after years of installing Roms since windows mobile 3/4... Remember, we are all here to post comments and help each other...

Oh boy. I see this going south. I LOVE miui because it has sms popups, themes galore, a nice dialer, and awesome support.
Sense is beautiful, has many variations, the system apps and widgets go on forever, and it really shows off what android is capable of visually. That said, it seems to take a tremendous amount of work by devs to make sense ROMs easy on the ol' battery. That, from my point of view makes them bloated. But, they can be made into fantastic daily drivers as has been shown repeatedly.
Lately I've used MIUI.

You probably think that TJ is being harsh and ruining a fun thing. But you have to take into account that redundant threads like this pollutes the site and when a noob tries to do the right thing and search for a thread he/she needs it'll be harder to find. And all he/she will do is ask the question in a thread that's been answered many times. Thus, it all just creates the circle of problems.
Powered by a G2x
I ran both.
MIUI on Nexus One, which is incapable of properly running even Sense 2.1, having no devs to completely solve everything (trackball wake) and no graphical power to move it smoothly.
Sense 3.0 on MT4G, which is capable of running it fast and smooth.
Personally, I prefer Sense - it is visually and functionally better. While MIUI fixes a lot of things that stock Android did wrong (T9 dialer, notification bar toggles, launcher - in the aspect of adding widgets, smoothness and effects), it still falls short when it comes to Email, text selection (standard Android has selection position bugs and isn't nearly as comfortable as Sense), and just overall visual experience. But MIUI is small and fast, and on older phones it counts - and it supports A LOT of phones that have no better options. So, for me, if the phone can't run Sense or TouchWiz properly - MIUI would be the next best thing to choose.
I go to miui once in a while but find myself coming back to sense 3.0/3.5 only because its just so awesome... Sense is hands down the best thing that happened to android it adds so much to android... Basic stuff like browser ,mail, contacts integration made perfect.... Sense makes android beautiful with brains but miui on the other side is definitely for lower power phones like say moto defy or something like that... Btw love both of them

Guy this question has been asked a thousand times with a thousand different answers. There is no top or stable ROM, they are ALL GREAT. Only what you feel best using and your needs of it. Try a few on for size and see what works for you and feels best for you. Coredroid for a stock look or absolution 3.7 for a no sense. But then these are my favorites but watch how many more responses you get till you get closed.

Look, I use my phone as a work phone (so I need an amount of stability), and I find aospx AR28 stable enough for a daily (that said, AR26 saw fewer freezes and reboots, food for though).
However, if you need camcorder, aospx (any ICS?) isn't for you.

Well lets start with congrats man on getting an Inspire. The Inspire community is awesome and there is a constant flow of great work being done by the amazing devs here. First, please search. I don't mean to come off as a jerk but it is part of the rules you agreed to when you signed up and literally if you searched "best rom" or "stable rom" you would most likely see what we have all been telling you and that is: There is no best stable ROM. Every ROM has its issues. What one person swears by another person won't. Only you know what you're willing to live with and live without. Try some ROMs out and see what works best. Here are my recommendations but they are by no means an all inclusive list of "best ROMs", just my personal preference.
Sense 3.5 = Bindroid
Basically stock = Cleardroid
AOSP/CM = Absolution
ICS = Redemption or Melchizedek
if i could stay on one rom long enough to find out if it's stable or not would be a great thing. stupid ROM A.D.D.

Don't forget cyanogen7.2 (newest release) for a wide variaty of customization.
Like others said before there are tons of roms in the developer section of the xda/inspire4g.
Welcome to the freedom of android. The best thing about rooting is the personalization. You can find just about any theme, os, app, or widget you can imagine.
Start with the ace hack kit, read the effin manual (that's what its called) do some reading on the available roms, download from the site or open up rom manager (if available) flash from rom manager.
Which ever rom you choose remember read the first post on the dev thread back and forth up and down. Once you do that...... read it again. All the important info you need for that rom is in the first post.
If you have questions on terms or what something is. Just Google said something followed by xda htc inspire 4g and you should find exactly what your looking for.
Good luck and welcome to the forum.

As stated none can tell you what rom will work best or be the most stable on your device and your set up. Even stock roms have bugs. It is just something you live with or dig in and try to fix when you own a smart phone.
Just pay attention to the OP of each thread and so the proper research and you will be fine.

Hey guys...so, I was recently given a glacier with a cracked screen that I repaired. I tried a couple JB Roman but unfortunately as of right now no one is really doing a lot of development for this old device just a bunch of ports with very little effort.toward bug fixes.
I decided to install the most supported rom I could find which turned out to be virtuous unity. Sense 3.0 android 2.3.4
I'm very happy with the rom. So far it is very fast and stable and does almost everything I want it to do.
My one major gripe is the keyboard. I got very used to the JB keyboard from a past phone of mine and nothing I've tried really matches up.
Is there some way I can install the JB keyboard on this old rom?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

For such a phone to be so old and only one carrier(in the USA) and the carrier is the least popular of the four hoursmen I think says a lot

Little effort towards bug fixes? Are you kidding me? Devs like Elgin, coderzs and albinoman887 are ripping their hair out trying to fix some bugs. It's not very nice of you to say that's there's little effort involved. Try fixing them yourself and you'll find out why it's so hard.

Sorry about that, I didn't mean to insult anyone. Fro. What I could see it didn't seem like the roms that were being ported were getting a lot of attention after that. Coderz has been porting a ton of roms which I appreciate but I didn't think he was really focusing on making any of them daily driver stable.
The phone is super old and I'm just glad that anyone is doing anything with it at all.
Notori0us, I say that you're building a 4.3 and it looks like from your thread that you're planning on sticking with it and working the bugs out which I'm super pumped about.
Sorry to anyone that is working hard on making a stable newer rom for this old phone that I might have offended, I just haven't seen it yet and the threads I've read are suggesting using older roms.
And thanks for the info about the jellybean keyboard in the market, I had no idea it was that simple.
