Dolphin browser shortcuts? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm using Dolphin HD NOT Dolphin for Pad as HD offers more features at the moment. However I am missing the back and forward butons so I'm just wondering if there are any keyboard shortcuts to 'mimmick' the back and forward buttons?
Thanks

Well that was kind of a 'None Answer' given the question was about keyboard shortcuts.
I have the same question. I'm using a Microsoft Wedge Keyboard on a Xoom. Fantastic Keyboard by the way.
Since I got the keyboard, i will often place my tablet on the stand an arms lengths awy. Reaching over to the tablet to go to the next or back page is a pain.

I didn't see anywhere in the OP about a keyboard.
At the time Dolphin HD lack the onscreen back and forward button hence my suggestion for him to use "gesture".

Second sentence in OP; ".... wondering if there are any keyboard shortcuts ...."
I've been looking for 3 days. I don't think it exists.

Smart Keyboard

Hey guys finally someone has gotten smart enough to make the first multi touch keyboard. It's called Smart Keyboard in the market and its free. It's still in beta and is very buggy and ugly. They keyboard is going in the right direction, maybe someone can build on it and perfect it? Thanks.

You can see the screenshots in the market. And it doesn't look THAT bad. Basically a white version of the stock keyboard.
Multi-touch seems to help my typing a lot. Even without the auto-correction (which is supposedly going to be added in the Pro version later on), I can type almost perfectly, compared to the many mistakes I make with the stock keyboard.

I agree its definitely a step better than the stock keyboard. One problem is that it doesn't show the letter when you hit it, it's just blank. Cant wait for a pro version or for someone to make a more improved app.
very nice keyboard indeed. the vibrate option doesnt work on my n1. its also missing the voice input but istill like it because it implements multitouch correctly unlike the stupid stock kboard
So I just downloaded app and selected it from language & keyboard settings but I still end up with the stock KB. Any ideas on how to switch it?

Hold down on a text box and it should say "Input method". Click that and should display the keyboards you have installed/enabled.

Alright fixed the problem thx!
Still needs quite a bit of work. All in all, it sort of reminded me..why exactly do we need a multi-touch keyboard now? Sure ive used the iphone keyboard....but it doesnt make a world of difference if the OS isnt built around the function.
fantastic find. using it to write this response and this is an amazing fix for me. not sure if it is the multitouch or not, but either way i like it
pretty good missing some features but i feel a bit more accurate with it.
Not bad! This has a lot of potential...
ill run it again once the bugs/fixes are worked out

vibrate works fine - just very faint.. it's a light pulse rather than a strong/long vibrate.

You can tell its multi touch if say you hold down the A key and then press the J key it will type the A then the J right after it.
Wish they could add holding Q for number 1 etc like the HTC one!
Only thing I really want.

Where did this come from? Interesting....
From the DroidX
How is it compared to Smart Keyboard Pro or Better Keyboard?
my two requests for it are for someone to fig out how it to use the stock dictionary and get vibrate to work! then this would be best keyboard ever.
What is the major benefit to a multi-touch keyboard? Can it actually keep up with my crazy quick typing now?
Would be perfect with working haptic feedback.
yup that is all it needs.
personally, i don't like the haptic feedback....multi touch will be awesome however
It already is multi touch.

some of the option text and ampersand seems to be in html encoded form. After you write and highlite a previous word sometimes it shows suggestions. That's my thoughts for the time being, any other apks op?

i know this..i'm saying it will be awesome once installed !
I have to be rooted to install this, correct?
ugh, it still does the smart keyboard pro thing where it won't register the first letter if you release it at the same time as the next key is pressed.. anybody else know what i mean?
Agree with the dictionary suggestion.. not crazy about the size of the letters or the combo. /, button next to the space bar. I'll try it out for a bit and see how it goes. Seems pretty good otherwise and multitouch works as it should. Thanks op for posting this.

[Q] How easy is it to use Thumb Keyboard on this tablet?

I've read somewhere that the bezel is a bit thick to comfortably typing using two thumbs. Can anyone verify that?
Thanks!
In landscape it is certainly quite difficult for me to type with any of the keyboards. Thumb keyboard is the best so far, but I wouldn't like to spend too much time typing like this.
Works well for me.. I can hold the tablet securely and touch my thumbs together, then and again, I do have quite large hands.
I tend to stick to the default Android keyboard because of this.. the keys are bigger so I make less mistakes. I guess everyone is different.
Thumb keyboard all the way for me. The tablet rests at the base of my knuckles and I can reach the keys with minimal effort. Perhaps you need to adjust the settings? I know I could never use this stock keyboard.
another vote for thumb keyboad when holding in both hands.. e.g when lying on the sofa.. having the split keyboard with numberpad in the middle is cool.. the predictive text aint bad either and height adjustable keyboard makes it quite useful
I didn't want to make a new thread but here is the link (courtesy of the G-Tablet forum here on xda) to download a beta version of Thumb Keyboard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034547
Is there an app/solution to having one keyboard for landscape mode (default android layout) and another for portrait mode (thumb keyboard) which appears automatically dependant on the orientation of the tablet? I'm fed up with having to keep switching it via the settings.
The best solution would be a more customizable keyboard...
For example, I do like the stock one, but usually use the Asus keyboard just because the '@' character is very counter-intuitive on the stock one. On the other hand, the spacebar in the Asus one is way too short for my linking (and I end up missing it quite a lot)
Having a keyboard where you can customize the layout would be really cool.

I could've sworn that Thumb Keyboard automatically offers different layouts depending on tablet orientation.. or do you not like the version offered in portrait mode?
It does, its down in the settings, Layout Keyboard.
There is a check box you and then you can select seperate layouts for portrait and landscape.
Also the new beta is built for 10.1 tablets and has been extended

The xoom forum is getting a lot of app love, due to it being the first baby on the block. I wish there was a way to get these all in sync, because Honeycomb really is somewhat the same across the board for now.

The quick way is to press an icon on the taskbar in the lower right while a keyboard is open. There's a good video of it in the link below. I'm looking forward to trying out the swiftkey tablet keyboard shown in the video (currently unreleased).

It's in a closed invite only beta. You need a special SwiftKey VIP invite code in order to participate.

Swift key tablet beta, and needs vip access, but it is amazing and looks like tron 2

...but what invite code do you use at the bottom ?
i'm using the "Tablet Keyboard" Free version. It's okay... really wish the swiftkey one wasn't a closed beta

[Q] New Tab Using Keyboard Dock

Random question... is there a button on the dock that any of you can find that when you click on a link in the browser it makes a new tab out of that page? for exmple, on windows when you hold down the control key and click it makes a new tab. I tried this on the keyboard and it did not work. Thanks in advance.
I don't have my dock yet, but I'd try ctrl+T

That makes a new tab, but thats not what i'm trying to do. I want to click on a link and make it turn into the new tab.
Example- when i am reading XDA forums and want to open a link someone posts but dont want to leave the forum, then on a windows computer i would hold CTRL and click the link.
Ohhh sorry... Either way I'm very interested in the solution to this.

Well, in regular android with touch controls you can long press on a link and then choose "open in new tab", so I guess that would work with the touchpad too. That's all I can think of though.

Try holding CTRL + Shift key then click on the link.
Shift Ctrl does not work, nor does just shift.
The other really random annoying thing that is you can not rearrange your tabs in the native browser. Oh well. Not the end of the world. Hopefully they will push a patch to fix it.
just longclick a link.
I'm sure more 'desktop' like functionality will be added as more Gingerbread tablets get out there. It will not surprise me at all if other manufacturers make keyboard docks like Asus did.
Tablets will get more and more functional, more powerful and usable. Many people will eventually be able to replace laptops and desktops with them.
Yeah, I read that the ctrl c and v (copy paste) doesn't work either. It all depends on the OS and/or apps. I actually don't know of the ctrl key will do anything. Remember honeycomb wasn't meant for a keyboard and mouse. If this combo becomes popular we may see more functionality included.

The control keys work in splashtop when controlling your computer.

I'm tempted to start a thread devoted to suggestions for updates for Asus to be aware of our ideas. Something like a key to enable a tab function seems like it would be easy to implement. Now that they have a majority of the major problems fixed (minus the whole screen lock issue), it seems like its time for the tweeks.

Suggestions for new keyboard with space nearer the right? (& swipe)

I keep pressing the '.' button when I want the space button. I had this problem with my previous phones too, so it's not a unique Mate 30 Pro issue for me.
I wonder if anyone has a recommendation for a different keyboard that has the space bar to the right (or perhaps left) of the keyboard?
NB, I also miss having swipe...any ideas?
Max.

Hey Max,
I'd strongly recommend Gboard. Have you tried it out yet?
I've been using it without any issues to replace the stock Huawei SwiftKey keyboard ever since I got my M30P.
The UI, spacing and layout tends to be mostly customizable and works wonders as it's from Google themselves. I've attached the version I've been using for a while as I noticed some of the newer ones just don't work - the settings page just closes on its own if I open it.
Ah, I prefer not Google, if possible. Is gboard open source?

I managed to load the swiftkey keyboard, and it is working much better than the built-in one.
I do have trouble with the keepass2 not being an option, though, which I am trying to use for storing my usernames/passwords.
Use Xperia Keyboard. Its awesome.

You're not the only one. Had this issue with all Android devices, nothing really helped. Meaning changing keyboard wise. Albeit the worst culprit for me was the Samsung keyboard for this issue over the years.
