Vegan, if you're speaking of the Froyo one, uses VTL Launcher as it's default home launcher.
Honeycomb, it's pretty much a built in kind of thing.
VTL is a launcher adapted by the Vegantabs team to provide a froyo and GB launcher that was moer "tablet friendly" you know, putting a dock at the bottom of a landscaped screen. It's an adaptation of ADW launcher. Go to the Vegan Tab Devs website to download it for free, for XDA mambers.
It's not bad, but I prefer Launcherpro, myself.
Or you could just actually use a honeycomb rom. Honestly on flashback for a week now i haven't found a reason not to use it. Every single thin/ i use on this tablet works fine just so long as you use opera(which has actually kind of grown on me). Just make sure you use the disable capacative buttons because that can get annoying.

Do the THD games work normally? Hi-def graphics and all?
Button savior in the market will also do the trick on most any rom.

They did for me when I was on flashback, Gtabcomb, or Illuminate.
Hardware acceleration doesn't really effect 3d graphics rendering like you think it would
My advice, do a titanium backup of your apps, flash an HC rom, test what you want, then eitherkeit, or revert back to whatever you were already on.
thanks guys

hey guys, I applied Dexter's froyo mod v1.2 and have been using it for a week. It is way smoother than 2.1 and I love it. However I miss the two "BLUR" buttons at the bottom of the homescreen (phone and sms) from 2.1. I never used any external "home launchers" before, but if I understand correctly, they can add custom buttons on the home screen. My main concern is battery life. Will installing a custom launcher drain my battery? If I do use a custom launcher, can I uninstall the original android home launcher (or freeze it with Titanium backup to prevent it from launching). Any suggestion or specific apps suggestion would be great.
or am I wrong? I looked at different launcher apps and they actually replace the entire interface of the home screen and such.. I want to keep the original android home but adds some buttons at the bottom of the home screen
On a side note, it's not possible to get those 2 "BLUR" buttons back right?
Most launchers I've used don't change the whole UI of everything, just gives you free reign to do what you want. Check into LauncherPro(plus), ADW, GoLauncher, they're all great. LauncherPro is my favorite for the widgets in the plus version mostly, +the dev is currently working on a rewrite (slowly ) that should really change things and give it a big advantage over it's competitors. ADW (ADWEX has more features) gives you themes and is great as well. GoLauncher, the newest of the 3 has some really great devs behind it who keep improving it drastically (I'd say it's probably the fastest currently - though the difference between the 3 is minimal).
Alternatively, maybe Dexter's Blur version of 2.2 for XT720 keeps the buttons you want? (I think it does but haven't actually put either that or the stock 2.2. on yet, so I don't know).
thanks for the help. So if I just want to get more buttons at the bottom of the home screen, then all 3 suggested apps should work right? which one would u say is least battery draining?

I'm not sure about the battery issue but Zeam is probably the smallest, least resource hungry.
I haven't really found any to noticeably drain my battery. That being said, I charge every day so that could be why I've never had any issue.
Zeam is pretty great as well.
I do not know if anyone has already wrote this, i checked in search and i do not see it, but the new Regina Launcher works for the Gtab I downloaded today and it is really cool to have the 3D launcher and the best part is it is FREE!!!!
https://market.android.com/search?q=regina+3d+launcher&so=1&c=apps
Checked out a video of this launcher on YouTube and it looks really, really slick.
I have it on my galaxy S and it works pretty good. It's a bit sluggish but has a lot of potential. Hopefully they continue to improve it.
I'm not sure it would be all that good on a tablet though..
It does look really slick, and is quite smooth on my gtablet. But it's forced into portrait mode, no way to turn it to landscape
Will contact the developer, see what they say.
Yeah, that sucks, I suspect if more and more people let them know that it runs on the Gtab then they might make some teaks to it to run smoother and auto rotate. Just wanted others to know that there is some kind of alternative to the 15.00 SPB shell thats nuts! It is somewhat buggy though esp on reboot

What ROM's does it work with?
It should work on any rom. I tried it on CM7 and it was nice. Only portrait. When I viewed the drawer, it showed black squares instead of the applications that I had installed.

So vagen should work?
Yeah I posted the request on their Facebook fan page and they do not have any plans to implement landscape right now.

To all you amazing dev's: Anyone interested in porting this to us? i think this launcher looks fantastic. Take a look at that vid, and here are the posts with files for it.

edit: looks lke i was wrong its not VEGA, its PoV Mobii . I still think its really neat.
I think gojimi* already ported this in the themes n apps section.
http://vegantab.gojimi.com/downloads/
look on that page for 3d launcher v 1.0
hmmm, i'll have to look deeper.
As a side note, I pulled the zip from http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-vega-vega-modaco-com/329946/3d-desktop-plugin/#entry1567646 (backed up) and ran the bat after ADB found the device. it works like a champ. not customizable, but neat looking. It's worth a few moments as a diversion, but VTL.Launcher is still my fave
I guess i'm still looking for new and creative ways to brick my device. It didn't work this time, I'll have to try harder.
I assume this probably won't work on TNT then?
i dont see why not, it seems like another launcher.
Cool launcher but I would like to be able to change the apps on the dock. Until then. Back to VTL.
Its a very cool interface. Just seams like a demo though. Really like how it feels like a tablet interface should. Just wish you could change out links on the bottom bar. This is good progress for the future of tablets though. I really love vtl lately it will be my daily as soon as gingerbread gets hardware exceleration. Till then I'm sticking with beta 5.1.1 and launcher pro.
Is there a thread for this launcher in the themes and apps section? Did a search but I couldn't find it.

I think they are referring to the scrolling with touch pad/mouse on the TF, and yes I have the same experience with mine, it slows a a little, not really a problem for me but noticeable. I have stock 3.2 WW so I can't really say if it's the ROM.
I too have noticed lag in homescreens when using the mouse. Although I don't thinks its super smooth when just swiping with your finger either. I tried out the Sony tablet tonight and the homescreens on that seemed really smooth compared to ours

I suggest you tu use ADW launcher EX 1.3.3.1 and not stock home screen launcher.
It is designed for honeycomb 3.2 and is the most smooth UI that i used...i set it up as default and now tablet i very very very very very very usable! i also notice touchpad lag (using alternative launcher won't show so much) but i think that is an I/O port problem...dock have to communicate with pad, and maybe is only an optimization issue of firmware's dock.

I might try out adw launcher ex if it really is that smooth. I use launcher pro plus on my nexus and that is nice and smooth. Unfortunately its not optimized for honeycomb. The only thing that put me off adw was the free version. I found that really quite laggy

Oh right got ya... just so we are clear, you arent talking about the mouse being laggy in certain versions of a rom, or kernel then. Just versions of a mouse, aka type or model......
As "version" implies you have been using the same model of mouse but different build versions.
But that would still mean that my original post was correct then as you hadnt told us what model of mouse.
Therefore, both your posts are obsolete by default.
wow didnt know i had to say i was using honeycomb 3.2 and not windows or linux on my tf.... anyways im using adw ex, when i scrool the homescreen with my fingers its butter smooth; its when i attach a "dock" and use the mouse pad OR use a reg wireless mouse the homescreen scrools to a crawl. i just think its a really strange issue and hopfully it will be fixed with some sort of update.

Lol, just what version of HC, is it stock or a custom rom? Stock or custom Kernel?
If you provide as much info as possible it stops "know-it-alls" from assuming they know what you are running and prevents the wrong info being passed back to you.

Exactly! with finget scrolling is really smooth, but with the dock drops some frames in the scroll animation.
I 've been reading the forums and updated my tablet to JB P3113 but I cannot take this Portrait screen any longer.....great ROM but my perference would be landscape.....is it a way to affect this??
Purchase ultimate rotation from market. Otherwise, no, sadly.

Why in the HELL would you make it to were you can only use the tab in portrait mode, that is just plane STUPID!! I'm not about to install/pay for an app that will give me landscape mode.. I'm not about to "downgrade" my tablet. WTF is up w/Google anyway.. no text reflow, & now we have to look at photos & web pages like it's 1995!? :crying:
Sorry.. rant off, Phil B.
P.S. I tried CM10.. not a fan of the way it looks/runs!.. I just like all the "stock" Samsung apps & the way it's setup/looks..

Calm yourself.. hehe..
I think youve got yourself a bit mixed up or Im not understanding you, but the Galaxy TAB IS both portrait and landscape and unlike the Asus Nexux 7, the homescreen can even be landscaped. If your tablet isnt landscaping, goto home screen, bottom right hand corner where the clock is, press the clock and a control panel should come up, make sure "autorotation" is switched ON, in green. Im also sure theres a seting in the Settings menu to make it permanent Landscape, but it looks great in Portrait too for your kindle and KOBO apps and Newspapers.
Just turn it on its side and it rotates landscape.. you can even turn it upside down - samsung logo at the top and it keeps rotating..
Hope that helps

Yeah the OP could try that or if your into your Widgets and Apps and custiomisation.. GO Launcher EX is nice as well and all launchers are free, its just the Skins and the High end apps you gotta pay for.
NightOrchid,
I've been reading that Jelly Bean (4.1.1) is "stuck" in portrait mode & to get landscape you have to install/use an app to get the screen to rotate!? I'm currently on ICS 4.0.4 UEBLH2 P3113 US Ver w/IR blaster, & use the tab strictly in landscape mode.
Anyway, I might check it out when our (USA) JB is leaked.. if it works & is faster & smoother than ICS I'll switch, if not.. :crying: lol
Later, Phil B.

Oh right, then Ive misunderstood it,I havent done alot of reading around on JB and I actually didnt realise that it had that limitation, i thought it was actually something that ASUS had done. Apologies OP., maybe Samsung might change that hopefully, like yourself Phil Im on the same XXBLH2 but for P3110 UK/ If this is the case, I might not consider JB, I like Landscape mode.

The CM10 Rom for JB has a UI patch that will rotate the home screen into tablet mode with no problem and it works for the AOSP Rom. The AOKP Rom for JB has a setting in the ROM Control where you can force table mode. This works beautifully. I also like the Samsung apps and the widgets that make the tablet look more interesting. When the time comes that we can rotate our GT -P3113 stock Rom to tablet mode for the home screen then I will switch back to stock. As of now I am doing my daily with AOSP's new Rom that's running excellent.

I've tried a couple of different launchers....Ii would prefer the tablet mode where the notifications are at the bottom on the right hand side. Just a personal preference. I've owned a couple of tablets and have always did all my (tableting) in landscape mode. Now the whole experience has changed with flipping the tablet back and forth, I'm just not liking it. It's one of those small things that now that the light is shinning on it, it now makes a bigger difference than I thought in the beginning.
I'm just glad to hear I'm not the only one who HATES the idea of using such a capable, conveniently sized device in portrait mode! Let's hope Samsung adds landscape to Touchwiz!?
