Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I am running virtous unity 2.35.0 with the unity v4 kernal it comes with. everything seems great and works fine apart from WIFI tethering!
It appears to work fine, my laptop is able to find my hotspot, i am able to connect to it, but there is only local access! no internet! even though my phone has a solid 3g signal and mobile data is turned on.
any suggestions guys?
thanks in advance
Eclipse
is nobody able to help me with this?
Report this to the Virtuous Development Team. http://www.virtuousrom.com/
done, they informed me that it will be fixed in the next update for virtuous unity which will be 2.37 and is due to be released tomorrow...
update.
after now ungrading to v 2.37.0 i am still having this issue, even though internet pass through is supposed to have been fixed!
any help guys?
WiFi tethering works fine on mine.
why is mine not working?
it has 3g signal, my laptop can connect but it is local access only!
could i have some settings not configured properlly somewhere maybe?
FIXED!
Don't think it was a problem with VU.
but i found the problem to be within the default settings of portable wifi hotspot.
it could be something related to my mobile operator, but i found following the following procedure worked a treat! i now have internet access through my tether! yay!
From your homescreen;
Menu/settings/Wireless&Networks/Mobile networks/Access Point Names
You should see the following three APNs;
Orange Internet
Consumer Broadband
Orange MMS
(that "consumer broadband" one is the one I don't remember seeing before, but I may have been blind. If you don't have it, go ahead and {assuming it's a clean factory-issue Orange Desire obviously} Unrevoke your Desire!)
Select Consumer Broadband (THAT's "CONSUMER BROADBAND" that needs to be Selected NOT the other two)
CHANGE the APN from "consumerbroadband" to "orangeinternet"
CHANGE the Username from <Not set> to "Orange"
CHANGE the password from <Not set> to "Multimedia"
Press your Menu button, tap "Save"
And that's it.

Hello -
I just got my tilt today and I've tried out a couple of ROMs already. On both of them everything seemed to work fine except the network connection. On the original config I connected just fine. I have an unlimited data plan and I have a good 3G signal around here. I found the comm manager but I'm not sure what settings to put in. Where can I find the settings?
thanks!

Which rom are you currently running?
If the custom rom is based on and HTC rom, then after the flashing completed, you should have seen a notification for the Network Configuration Wizard. That will autoconfigure all of the required AT&T settings. I believe that the Network Wizard can be run from Settings --> Conections also.
If you check the Wiki for the Kaiser, you should be able to find a CAB file that will configure MEdia Net for you.
MediaNet
Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access Point = wap.cingular
User Name = [email protected]
Password = CINGULAR1
I use alternate DNS Servers (Under Advanced)
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
DNS is provided by Open DNS www.opendns.com

Not sure if this is a ROM problem or something else. Every time I run google maps or speedtest it breaks my mobile data connection. I have to toggle mobile network off/on to get it to work again. Running Virtuous Unity 1.27.0; it happened with 1.26.0 too. Is this possibly a hardware problem? Or a ROM problem? Not sure... Has anyone had this happen?

I have run both those ROM's and frequently run GPS/Google maps simultaneously with Mobile Network and never had that happen...yet....maybe your local network is dropping you....evil...
Yeah I thought that might be it, too...but it only happens when I use the GPS
I can still text and make calls, but no internet, market, speedtest....
I'm wondering if I should return to stock to see if it still happens and take it to a store

Yeah that would bug the S out of me...wish I had more insight...mine works
Anybody else ever see this problem?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I've recently noticed that sometimes when I turn gps on it briefly kills my connection, but it resets itself after a few seconds. Currently running hydrog3n 1.5. Pretty sure it was happening on tpgb 627 as well.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Yeah, it kills mine, but it won't come back on until I manually turn it off and back on. The H icon still show up but no activity on the arrows
I'm now experiencing this too. In my case I have the RCMix V2.0 ROM. It happens with both the stock updated OTA radio and the radio/ril combo that is recommended for this ROM. It seems to only happen when the GPS is active. In other words if I use say Google maps with GPS, press Home and then run an internet app I have connection. But if I leave a GPS app (Co-Pilot Live for example) in the background with the GPS active, internet is down. Just like you I show the "H" symbol just no arrows for data. If anyone else has an insight please shout...
Ok, don't ask me why but I found the solution. It's simply having multiple APN's. I had originally created a second APN as per the instructions in someone else's thread to get higher data speeds. Well, after a search on the internet yielded this idea I copied the MMS settings from the original APN to my new one, deleted the old one and Voila, GPS and data now live happily together. Weird...

So you have one or two APN's now? It might be useful if you could to post your exact settings.
Just one APN now...
Settings are:
Name: MediaNet (But doesn't matter)
APN: Phone
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy:wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,admin.mms
Everything else not set..

Hmmm. Well glad it works for you. I am fairly sure that setup would not work for me. My data plan requires two APN's. I've verified this multiple times. I just tried this since I just flashed a new ROM and was in setup...dismal failure...restored the second APN and hitting 5.5 down out of the box.
So I have a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate and it's been running pretty nicely for the most part for several months (I got it around the same time FireFly 3.0 came out)
It's gotten pretty cluttered and also having a few silly issues lately so I decided to try a factory data reset.
Everything seemed to go fine, but now I have no Data and WiFi doesn't work either. (I can make phone calls without issue, though)
WiFi scans and sees my network, but when it tries to connect.. it just says "Disconnected" after a few seconds and then tries again in a loop of connecting and disconnecting.
As for the 3G data, it is not working either. There is no icon over top of the reception bars where I would normally see a tiny "3G" or "H". It's just the 4 green bars and nothing else.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated - I don't even know where to start.
Thanks!!
John
Update: False alarm on the WiFi not working - it was just a coincidental timing issue with my router messing up also. WiFi works. 3G Data does not.
Also, rooted phone (obviously) on Fido/Rogers in Canada.
Thanks
try re flashing firefly or edit your apn's and add these :
Name: Rogers
APN: internet.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
MCC: 302
MNC: 72 (If that doesn't work try 720, its already filled in, leave it at what it is)
it looks like the apn was missing completely, thanks!!
Hi there,
Moved house and trying to use my phone until we get internet. I installed HTC Sync etc. and got it all set up, it connects but it has a "limited connection" with tethering and the wireless hotspot accepts the 1234567890 pin but doesn't work either.
Any help would be appreciated, im With Telstra (Australia) and used my previous phone (Nokia E71) to do the same thing and didn't have any trouble so i doubt it's the network.
From your homescreen;
Menu/settings/Wireless&Networks/Mobile networks/Access Point Names
You should see the following three APNs;
CHANGE the password from <Not set> to "Multimedia"
and change authentication type to CHAP
Press your Menu button, tap "Save"
try it now
i didnt do anything and it seems to be now working! will post back if it plays up, thanks for your response!
I was wondering if there is any Tether bypass for a non-rooted HTC One S on T-Mobile's Monthly 4G. The User Agent trick did not work for me. Also, because of the update I do not have the ability to switch Access Point Names (when I switch names it switches right back).
I am bummed that I could not get these tricks to work because my internet unexpectedly went out yesterday and I really needed access to the web. I had to use an unsecured choppy signal the whole night.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I don't know if I want to root the phone because I may just sell it and get the Nexus 4 if it gets good reviews.

FoxFi, but if your on 4.04 the data will stop streaming when the screen shuts off, if your still on 4.03 then your golden.
FoxFi not Working
Unfortunately I cannot get FoxFi to work. When I connect to the network on my laptop it will not load any pages. It looks like it tries to load the page and FoxFi says it is sending and receiving bytes, but my laptop's browser gives up after about 10 seconds and give me a "page could not be loaded" error. I have the Windows 8 beta installed, would this affect whether or not FoxFi would work?
When I used my laptop I would get a DNS error When connecting to foxfis WiFi. However I just tried to access foxfis network on my old Samsung sidekick and it worked like a charm. Any ideas on what I need to do in order to connect to foxfis WiFi on my pc?
Unfortunately Foxfi is an app that T-Mobile is aware of, they will cut it tether and redirect you to the hotspot website

This was not my experience. On my Windows 8 PC I was given a DNS Error when trying to load pages using FoxFi's wifi. This is the same result I get when I try using my phone's built in Wifi Hotspot feature. It does not redirect me to the T-Mobile site.
When I used FoxFi's wifi on my old Samsung Sidekick it let me browse the web with ease.
The only time I get the T-Mobile redirect is when I try to use my HTC One S'es USB Tethering Feature connected to my lap top.
When I use FoxFi or the HTC One S'es built in Hotspot feature I get a DNS Errror.
try this. it worked for me when i wasnt rooted.

Great settings I have also used in the past.
The problem though is with the new version the software of the phone automatically changes it back to the other on.

Yeah ur right. I went back to the stock rom and tried it. It did switch back almost right away. That sucks. Well sorry about that. That's the only way I know of doing it lol

What about tethering with rooting and stock rom?
So it sounds like we are pretty toast for methods of tethering without rooting... I've been lurking on these forums for a while looking. The FoxFi method seems to work sometimes, my personal experience is that the screen needs to be always on or there needs to be a constant data pull, which is a bit inconvenient.
I pretty much have given up finding a nice way to tether without root on the latest OTA update (4.0.4, yes I really regret updating now, the APN method listed above worked like a charm before this).
That said, how do I tether if I do want to root but I don't want to change the stock rom because I want future OTA updates (crossing my fingers for 4.1 soon). Can I root and use something like Barnacle? Does rooting free up a way to change the APN without it switching back?

Rooted or unrooted it winds up the same, data stops as soon as the screen goes off unless your using t-mobiles built in hotspot. I found a way to browse the web even when the screen goes off, but you cant stream netflix or download from the market, but use opengarden, you need it on both devices, the one with the tree. It creates a mesh network.
Now if your going to stream something with constant data pull you can use the regular tethering apps (foxfi, wifi tether) and it will continue to work even when the screen goes off, as soon as the data is stopped being pulled you'll have to turn your phones screen back on for the tethering to work, so there is a workaround, it's just a 2 step process depending on what your doing.
