I notice you guys don't seem to have one of these, I made one in the O2X dev section so as not to balls up the proper nightly thread, anyone else who likes to build, feel free to add to this thread.
I was asked to build this in lieu of a proper nightly, it contains all commits up to and including the OMAP4 touch to focus one.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/q0gx7iruh2qhguh/update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-G2x-KANG-signed.zip
MD5: e79a5c128bd72c50fa0735cc4551d80f
As this is now based on the EXT4 file system, you might want to convert /data and /cache to EXT4 as well, as they will remain EXT3 (but mounted as EXT4). This zip will sort that for you, although if you wipe cache, it will revert to EXT3 for some reason (at least on the O2X it does, so I'm assuming this is the same): http://www.mediafire.com/file/a9gor6o2b26co8r/p999-ext4.zip
DISCLAIMER:
I do not own a G2X, I have in no way tested this update, you might want to consider some sort of backup before flashing these, even if someone else has already done it and reported all is well.
Has anyone used the ext4 conversion for the rest of the system?

I have used the converter and it works and there was no data loss or hiccups. To the above poster /cache is converted when flashing as long as you wiped it before hand. It will not convert partitions that have data in them.

When it says wipe cache, is that during the flash process or anytime you wipe the cache after the ext4 flash it will revert to ext3?

No just the usual wipe cache wipe dalvik install nightly fix permissions. It won't revert everytime u wipe.

Yeah that's my experience of my O2X's behaviour, the G2X might not do it. Someone test it, do a cache wipe and check the mounts while still in recovery (it will say EXT4 if you boot to CM7 regardless of what it actually is).
If it does revert to EXT3, you can use the zip again.
PS. There is no need to wipe cache or dalvik cache when flashing a new nightly or kang, it's hashes will be invalid and it gets regenerated anyway.

I was talking about flashing the utility that will convert to ext4. If we wipe cache will it revert the system as well as the data? Also theres another utility that will convert the data to ext4 in the other kang thread. Are they both the same?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Right, now I understand
No, /system won't be changed, just /cache.
The 'utilities' might be very similar, but I doubt they're the same, as I made this one.

What about the /data will that stay on ext4 or will it revert?
Wiping cache wont hurt it, and apparently wiping/factory reset from recovery (v5.0.2.0) will set it to EXT4, although I've not tested it.
FYI: This kang (and ext4 script) is working great for me so far. Thanks!

The idea is that anyone can add a build to this thread, so that if an interesting new commit pops up, and people don't want to wait, they post it here. I don't mind running off updated versions if necessary.
I was hoping to emulate the O2X version of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118091
We have two new commits that I don't think mean much for our phone, but once we get a couple more can we get a new kang pretty please with cherry on top .
Please lets quit talking about the other thread. Its gone and now we have a much nicer, friendlier, and less hostile thread. Lets just enjoy it!

Useless whining IMO.
Now, Rusty, where did you pull the kernel from? Also, any errors on pulling the CM source? My pull would eventually crap out even with -f and go nuts about android.git.kernel being down even though I edited the repo script.

I've had it crap out on me with -f as well, I used repo sync -f -j32 with success though, possibly doing 32 things at once helps with it.
As for the kernel, it comes with a prebuilt one as part of the sync (find it @ /devices/lge/p999/kernel), but if you want the source, create a new directory and git clone https://github.com/CyanogenMod/lge-kernel-star.git to download it. You can update it with git pull from then on.
Thread purged of useless posts.
A. For reasons stated in the OP the releases in this thread are NOT the same as Fitsnugly's kangs.
B. This thread is not the place to discuss Fitsnugly or his contributions to XDA and the Android community. This thread is for you to discuss Rusty's Unofficial CM7 Kangs.
C. Fitsnugly is/was a very valued contributor to the forums. He left because of whiny, "entitled" users who ignored his requests in his OPs. Anyone I see complaining about how he chose to leave will be met with a temporary ban.
Let's keep discussion in this thread on topic. This means Rusty's kangs ONLY.
Edit: Thanks herzzreh for the heads up on the post I missed.

I'll most def give it a shot before flashing a new rom.
Ok. This script isn't doing what you're selling bud.
1. It formats the cache, data, boot, and system once.
2. You delete_recursive on the dalvik cache. For some people, like myself, the dalvik cache is in /cache. Not /data.
3. You're using half Edify and half Amend scripting. Your show_progress is the wrong syntax for Edify. So is the rest of your format/delete commands.
4. You have so many spelling mistakes that it looks like a 10 year old whipped this up.
You asked for feedback, here it is. I could write up a better wipe and you've actually motivated me to do it.
Edit: Attached is a quick Format & Wipe that I made. It's an update-script but it's 100% Edify. Someone who's willing try this and let me know if it works. <--- Read below.
Edit 2: I had to modify the script a little bit due to syntax errors, renamed it to updater-script and added an update-binary. I used it before flashing my latest update to my rom and it worked perfect.
and this seems a lot like
http://infectedrom.com/showthread.php/238-Vr_superwipe
I just typed the one I made up. I have no idea what anyone else's format all scripts do. I just know mine isn't going to do it 3 damn times. It deletes /boot, /cache(includes dalvik-cache since that's /cache/dalvik-cache), /data(includes dalvik-cache since that's /data/dalvik-cache), & /system. It then formats boot, cache, data, & system.
That's all. Should work perfect.

First of all, this is not my work. I only compiled it.
This is the usual ClockworkMod recovery, compiled from the CM7 sources with additions/modifications by j_r0dd. What I've done is only to compile it for the HTC Desire HD. For details, check out the link to j_r0dd's original thread for the Nexus S.
The credits go to Koush for the recovery itself and to j_r0dd for the modifications. I haven't been able to test it on the HTC Desire HD, since I don't own one.
j_r0dd said:
This is based on the latest CM7 source which I modified for myself. I take no credit for the recovery whatsoever, but I will take all the blame for my mods . We all know this is Koush's hard work. Just some things were driving me crazy personally. First was the confirmation menu. I really got sick of scrolling through all those "No"s just to flash something, so i changed it for me personally and just thought I would share. I also created a proper wipe menu. I got sick of some wipes in the main menu and the rest in the "advanced" menu. I made this more Amon_RA like. See the attached screenshot for my changes. That change has led to a few others by me. flash with fastboot or flash_image. THESE ARE NOT IN ROM MANAGER. Also if you have an issue with this take it up with me NOT Koush.

Disclaimer
These recoveries are compiled using the latest commits from koush, j_r0dd and others. That means they haven't been thoroughly tested and might have minor/major issues. I take no responsibility for any damages this thing might cause, but most things should work as intended. If you want something guaranteed to work, I think you should stick with one of the older versions.

Correct, because of a bug in the ClockworkMod 4.0.0.0 source code. Keep an older recovery handy if you're testing this.
You can get around the bug. Each time you get the error, you can "adb shell umount /sdcard" from your computer. It's annoying, and hopefully we can find a solution for it soon.

...if you are not formatting /system.
I keep reading on almost every development thread, pages of posts from people stating that they are having all kinds of problems and it is the fault of the rom they flashed. Then after several people try to help out, the poster of the problem will usually state something like, "I DID DO A FULL WIPE DAMMMMMITT!!! I cleared cache, dalvik and EVEN did a factory reset...I even fixed permissions after I flashed...THIS ROM IS JUNK!!!!"
Time and time again, I see that they neglected to format /system. If you don't include this as a part of your "full wipe", you can leave behind remnants of your previous rom, which is most probably going to cause problems.
couldn't have said it better myself. especially when coming from a 2.3.5 rom but should do it for any.

I have continually recommended this also, but maybe doing it here in a separate thread will get better attention.
I format /system between ALL ROM flashes (only takes a few more SECONDS if you are also wiping davlik and cache).
Per your OP - I have had very few issues as a result. I really think most of the posts on problems that are not know issues in these threads are the direct result of not doing this.
PS - formatting /system does also not always work either. I have not had problems so far with my G2X from not doing a "real full wipe" (fastboot system erase....), but I did a few times when I was crack-flashing nightlies over on the MT4G forum. I could not otherwise get WiFi and/or bluetooth to work at times even after doing a factory reset and formatting /system.
besides the wide data, cache, dalvik and format/system, is it safe or recommended to format anything else when flashing a new rom?

Its under mounts and storage I believe.
Also this whole problem could easily be alleviated by rom makers putting a format /system in there install script like CM does. Not defending dumb asses, just saying it would be helpful for the people less in the know.

Oh, CM formats /system? Awesome, I only use CM, so I don't have to worry about this issue.
To be honest, it's stuff like this that has kept me from flashing a ROM. I've started a procedure doc, filling in details as I read threads. I hadn't seen this one...
Some day I will hopefully have an all-encompassing "this is how you flash a ROM" doc, and I will post it. Unless it already exists?
Then I have to start on a Kernel flash doc...
Just so I can use a stable phone...
I write embedded C for a living, and music is my hobby - I didn't mean for my phone to become a hobby, also. But it is addicting...

This was done with SDK tools fastboot commands. I have not had to try it yet on a G2x, but I assume it would work - other fastboot commands do.
I usually also added the -w to wipe cache and data at the same time.

Tegra stuff does have fastboot, on the O2X and Advent Vega, if you wipe the boot partition and reboot the phone drops to fastboot. I would assume the G2X is the same.
You can flash or boot a recovery, and boot a boot image, although you can't flash a boot image for some reason. That's all I've tried though.

Yes...the internal SD card. This is an often neglected step and could cause problems (such as boot loops) if not formatted.
Interesting, I've done many ROM flashes using about 5 different types of ROM and not had to do this but I'll bear it in mind.
I just do a data wipe when using different types if ROM and just cache when upgrading the same ROM. Maybe I've been lucky?

You have been lucky - especially in flashing different types of ROMs on the same device
Also, it takes a lot more work to reload data (unless you are using advanced restore) and most flashing issues happen with the system rather than data. I always try to preserve data but clear the system.
Way to exaggerate...the entire process takes about a minute and a half, lol.

I have noticed some issues with unmounting /cache in recovery.
I would like to ask some of you to help me out so I can dwtermine if it is solely my device or ROM/kernel related, and then I can find a fix for it...
It's very simple:
Reboot to recovery
Scroll down to mounts & storage and select it (press power button/search soft key)
Scroll down to where it says unmount /cache and select it
Press the back button 2 times
Scroll back to mount & storage and select it
Note if it now says mount /cache or unmount /cache
Report your findings, ROM and kernel version back to this thread
Thanks everyone!
I followed your steps and changed cache from unmount to mount. I went back to check the status and it changed back to unmount. I'm on Dark Knight build 7,kernel is 2.6.35.11

Awesome! Thank you so much.
Now that I have determined it is solely my device, let's see what the problem really is...
Anyone else on a ROM other than Dark Knight build 7 and kernel 2.6.35.11 (I'm guessing it is still k0nane kernel) having this issue?
I'm guessing it my be an fstab error in the kernel. But I will try a few things tomorrow and see what I come up with...
Dark Knight build 7 has my own kernel no longer using k0nanes so not sure bro. Also iirc the recovery on this phone isn't integrated on the kernel

If helped don't be afraid to hit the thanks button it doesn't bite lol

No way homie? I'm going to try fschk/tune2fs manually and see if that fixes it...

I am using debloated stock rom by tthaz777 with k0nane's kernel, after your steps my CWM display is unmount cache. Same thing on two different phones. Lmk if you need a different one tested.

So you unmount /cache, go back to main menu, and then go back to mounts & storage, it still says unmount /cache on a different kernel? And you got the same results on other devices?
Don't mean to sound stupid, just want to make sure I fully understand.

My ROM uses stock kernel, not k0nane's kernel.
Yes it does still say unmount on two devices. Thanks for the clarification on that tthaz777, your rom runs very nice btw
It seems this is an issue with cwm recovery, but i haven't fully confirmed yet.
For now it looks like the only way to unmount /cache is they adb...
