I used to own an iphone 4 and that device has great responsivnes. The captivate not so much. ALot of times I would have to tap 2-3 times, especially the 4 main bottom keys. Anyways, I went to android for pure customization. Can someone help me out? I cannot find the option to disable the screen lock on my captivate. I just want to be able to lock/unlock it with a button, instead of swyping the unresponsive screen. Thanks
Go download Lock Bot on the market.

Yeah I figured. Well if I can't disable this annoying screen lock, ill just set the lock out to 30 minutes. This android device has such an unresponsive screen compared to the iphone 4. I find myself having to tap 2-3 times on an icon and the system also LAGS. Any of you expereinicing this or is it just me? For example, i have a full album of really high quality DSLR images and in the gallery mode, pictures sometimes take forever to load when im scrolling through. My old iphone 4 did this instantly. Switching between apps like Email, web browser and MP3 player would not be instant. 2-5 second lag in between. Really disapointing on the captivate.
The poster above just gave you the solution for disabling the locking screen so I don't know why you are still posting about not being able to do it.
I experienced so major lagging etc when I first got the Captivate. I hard reset it to start fresh. Since then, I've used the stock launcher, Launcher Pro etc loaded lots of apps and I'm not experiencing lagging anymore with the exception of Exchange email which takes a second to open.
Seems like you were really satisfied with the iphone 4. You keep referring to it like an old girlfriend. "My old girlfriend never hassled me about going out with the boys..." At least, if the Captivate doesn't work out for you, you have a phone to go back to that you were apparently happy with.

yeah, we have a thread solely for whining in...there was never a need for you to make a new topic about this. it just clutters the homescreen.
simple searching would answer a lot of your questions...root the phone, remove the att bloatware and then restart it and get a task killer. problem solved.
don't use the sammy widgets if you don't like them (i use them and they don't lag) and most importantly, android allows for customization but it's based off linux so heed these words - YOU NEED TO DO IT YOURSELF. in other words, you need to write the app that bypasses the lock screen, you need to write your own themes and you need to quit whining about it.
the iPhone has a lock screen too, i don't know why yours is being laggy but like everything YMMV...so try the fixes (refer to pimp my captivate) and then let us know if you have any other issues...
oh and welcome to the forums, just use the damn search button
Everytime I use either ADW or Zeam, I have problems with the Launcher, I assume, being killed off by the system to free resources possibly?
I never used the Sense Launcher, and I really do not plan to--it's not as customizable as I would like (maybe if I can add 5 Rows and a new Dockbar I would?)
Anyhow, this is a huge problem I found with my OG DROID. It was 99% solved with my Fascinate. Now on my TB, it's back at it again, constant redraw. Anytime I am in a memory intensive situation (especially, but there are exceptions to this rule), and I hit the home button, the Launcher is blank and restarts. This surely can't be a memory problem with a phone that has 768 RAM.
I am not rooted, and I don't plan to (did it with my Droid, Fascinate and Nook Color--I simply want a phone that I am happy with as stock.)
Any thoughts on this? Anytime I bring this up, most claim it does not happen to them. I am an app whore, so my phone is loaded, but still?
Thoughts? Ideas?
It used to happen to my D1 and I think it was because of the memory.
You might want to get rooted, and install a senseless rom, therefore you won't have rosie taking up resources, since you don't even use it.
I use launcherpro and I am using a senseless rom and it never happens.
Hope this helps

Do either of those launchers have a setting to "keep in memory" this may help you out. I know LP does, not sure about those since I have never used them. Check out the settings for them, hopefully there is something like that in there.

ADW does have a "system persistence" but he said he is taking it out because it doesn't work on 2.3 plus. I use it and it doesn't change anything.
Zeam is minimalistic and has no system settings. I tried LP (I have the paid versions), and the same thing...
I am facing a rather annoying problem with the Nexus S Android 2.3.4. I two separate launchers like Go Launcer EX, and the Launcher Pro as well. The thing is that whenever I go into an app like twitter or something or even the dialer and dial a call and then go back to the main home screen, all the icons keep refreshing and then the phone jitters for about a few seconds and then its fine and doesn't do anything. I have tried using different home screen apps even the stock android one which comes with the darn phone but still the same problem.
I don't know if anyone else is having the same problem with the nexus S, but I have an HTC Desire and that phone flies when compared to the Nexus S whereas it should be the other way around. I'm getting sick of this phone. I paid premium price for this phone of $600 Australia dollars and I get this ****. Someone please help me before I chuck the phone out the window.

It sounds like you're running out of memory and the homes creen is getting dumped to run apps - thereby forcing a bit of a reload/redraw when exiting the app. You could try something like LauncherPro and select the "keep in memory" option to see if that helps.
Are you running a lot of heavy widgets or a crazy amount of background services (that are active)?

Hey,
I don't think there are alot of apps running in the background. I just counted that there are only 13 apps running in the background and I am using Go LauncherEx but I think I'm going to try and use Launcer pro now just as you suggested and see if it works. Hope it does. I don't think I'm using alot of home screen widgets as well. There might be just three of them, Facebook, Internet Usage and then the Clock, thats all. I didn't expect such things from phones which have advanced so much, plus my HTC Desire never does this.
So I've noticed with Go Launcher EX that with WiFi turned off or with it on but no connection that scrolling through the home screens and app drawer is laggy and stutters. Once WiFi is connected this are very smooth. This happens with the stock ROM and CM7. Has anyone else noticed this and/or have any suggestions on fixing it?
Edit: Moving the minimum clock speed up to 600MHz with SetCPU takes care of the lag but I'm sure I'll burn through the battery a little faster.
I haven't noticed anything like that, are you on the stock ROM or something else?
I still use the default Kindle Launcher, so it is a bit laggy when I launch Go Launcher EX and it isn't in memory.

It did it with the stock ROM and now does it with CM7.
Silly question, but do you have issues w/ home screen redraws as well, or no? If so, it still sounds like a loading thing. If not, that is strange. Maybe it has a few built in widgets that are getting upset about not having access to the outside world?
Purchased my Droid Razr HD on launch day and I must say I was in love with the phone on ICS. Was extremely excited when the JB update hit. But since I updated, my phone has been a complete mess. I have been patient in hopes it would fix itself, but below are some of the issues.
When I unlock the phone, the clock in the circle widget lags, so I will unlock, it will say 2:00 for a solid second or two, then update to 2:10. The time should not lag like that. It basically lags and adjusts every time I unlock it. If I haven't touched my phone in 45 minutes, I'll unlock, it will say 2:00, then two seconds goes by and it updates to 2:45
When I hit messaging to view my texts, all of my contacts show up as just phone numbers, then after a few seconds the names load. If I scroll down further they are still numbers then switch to names.
The browser goes unresponsive. Everything from inability to swap tabs, to hitting a link. Usually I'll force stop chrome.
Overall the entire phone experiences major lag issues. Typing, swapping apps, etc... Anyone else experience this? Could the phone have just downloaded the OS poorly?

It's seriously making me want to dump this phone.
Indeed there is lag. Here's a funny thing, I get lag using the stock launcher and swiping the page from left to right with the any of the stock image wallpapers loaded.
However, if I use a live wallpaper (say Phase Beam) the swiping from left to right with the live wallpaper active is blisteringly quick.. How fcuked up is that?
I am having the same issue. I factory reset the phone before flashing JB. I also have times that the phone is completely unresponsive and requires a hard reboot. Any ideas?
there is definite lag when scrolling over to the quick settings page, idk why motorola can't get that fixed. My big complaint is the lack of stock android browser. I hate chrome, its slow compared to the aosp browser. I actually bought another Galaxy Nexus and am going back to that. Will miss the battery life though. You could always use the utility in the dev section to go back to ICS though
I used the utility to go back to ICS. I didn't have lag issues, actually my phone on JB was much faster and smoother. I went back because of all of the features missing from JB. For instance:
1) Motorola keyboard (much better than the AOSP keyboard in JB IMO)
2) Manage internal storage feature (gone in JB)
3) Wired headphone equalizer in ICS works on anything coming out of the headphone jack. (In JB it only works in the music app)
4) Also there is a bug where if you are listening to music through headphones and get a text message, the notification only comes through at less than half volume and there is no pause in the music. I have missed several text messages because of this. Even if i know the sms is coming through and i see it appear on the screen i still can't hear it over the music
I'm sure there were a few more things i am missing, but those were enough for me to switch back.
same lagg here
on ics, adw launcher heped with my lagg, but on jb, doesnt seem to matter what launcher i use, lagg everywhere. unlocking is annoying and sms app takes a bit to populate. cant wait for a solid cm 10.1 for this. I feel like its the only fix.
I would have thoght since motorola is owned by google, the os would be as good as the nexus. NOT even close
Not the ideal solution, but have you guys tried doing a full wipe factory reset and/or wiping the cache partition?
My Razr HD has just started developing a "dim" screen from waking after a long period. Not sure if this is software or hardware, it doesnt happen all the time - maybe once a day - but I have to go to the display settings and check/uncheck the auto brightness box to fix it....
Any of you out there having a similar issue??
I installed nova launcher prime and it is extremely smooth.

I wiped my cache using fastboot and, initially at least, things seem much smoother. Give it a try.

What? I tried to get to the stock recovery, but I cannot seem to get past the "dead android" screen no matter what button combination I try.
Edit: you have to be really precise when holding down the volume up and down buttons lol
Is it hold down the power/lock button, then tap volume up? Think that's the combo on my Nexus S
I've been trying to figure out this lag thing too...I really dislike lag. I disabled Google Now & disabled the Verizon Apps as previously suggested. I also think I may have found something awesome:
It may be premature, but I believe I've found a way to get rid of almost all lag. I installed this apk called Seeder.
My lag pretty much gone. I've been disappointed in EVERY Android phone I've ever had (because of lag)...this seems to have fixed it.
I installed the leak the second it was confirmed to be the legit Verizon approved build and the lag for me was comparable if not slightly better than ICS. Nova Launcher is good though, you lose the settings menu that always lags the first time you swipe to it, but you can replace that with Power toggles for the pull-down menu.
What you're experiencing seems much worse than what I remember because the phone was still highly usable, just not perfect. I was never a big fan of Circles, even after removing it from my home screen it would find its way into my list of running processes till I froze it with titanium backup. I froze virtually all the Verizon crap that'd run constantly too and the phone has been nearly flawless since installing Nova.
Also came across several sites I need to access for work that render horribly slow on Chrome like Hawaii'sVIP, it just chugs along like a slide show. Dolphin Browser on the other hand renders heavily populated pages almost instantly. It also looks truly hardware accelerated during rapid zooming and scrolling, where Chrome often jumps around and loads the page in chunks.
