So I updated my Sensation to 2.3.4 and now I'm just wondering if I have an unlocked bootloader on my phone. Did the OTA give me an advantage to go and root my Sensation?

Nope

So then how do I go about rooting it. I don't know if I have S-off or not.

Turn off phone. Hold down lower volume and press power. Then youll see your bootloader screen and look and see if it says s-on.

Mine says locked, so yeah the OTA does not unlock your phone.
Do NOT unlock it. You warrenty will be void and HTC will know.
S OFF, flash CWM, then flash su

All he was asking was if the ota gave him s-off. Thats not gonna happen. The only way your gonna inform htc that you soff is buy them through there website. Just soff through alpharev and root flash radio update and youll be good. There is the direction thread in stickies ok. Kids these days

As the title says. I did a search & came across a Nexus S post that said: You can flash an OTA update but you will lose root.
Just wanted to know if this is true for the Sensation. Thanks in advance.

No it will not work for sensation.

Oh alright. Mind me asking why?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Because you need stock recovery to install OTA.

Because of the way stock recovery is setup, and the way HTC formats their update.zip files.

Oh so basically It's different from phone maker to phone maker. Thanks for ur replies!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Yes you can.
When downloading, select install later.
Some can then be installed simply by using CWM. E.g. the latest security update.
Others, you need to put the stock recovery on first. See here.
Install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip in CWM again to get root back.

hi, if you want to return s-on, you have to follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
and no, if you do s-off you can't get update from htc
Tnx ;-)

there is the button "thanks"
you can get updates from htc with s-off as long as you are otherwise completely stock (including recovery)
Tried to s-off my wifes sensation but no good thru revolutionary.io ( Thanks to Telstra ****) so I used the htcdev method and unlocked bootloader with s-on. Using twrp recovery tried to flash a Ics Rom and got stuck in boot loop. Can someone please point me in the right direction, been searching post all night. Wifes not happy, using my old Hd2 today. Please help!!

Is there a way to flash Rom similar to My EVO 3d with s-on ie, flash boot.IMG thru fastboot and then flash rom?

Revolutionary will definitely work with ur hboot you can see I have same hboot I got soff via revolutionary. There r chances u get error msg. Try to boot ur phone and pc reconnect it will work. Best thing I suggest get soff first rather then messing around.

I tried about 4 times with revolutionary do you think I might need to make a gold card to prevent it checking Cid?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D X515m using xda premium
U don't need gold card for sensation.

Hi,
Well. Here's the think, I bought a Factory Unlocked OEM HTC Sensation z710e,
And It's s-off, and I've done nothing,
It's a full s-off or just HTC dev ?
Any recommendations?
Thanks,

It is full S-Off, some phones come that way. Enjoy your S-OFFed phone
Just flash a recovery via fastboot and you're good to go.

If it says s-off and bootloader unlocked then you are good to go pal if your bootloader is locked then flash the jupuntobear hboot or the universal 3.33 firmware so that your hboot is unlocked without HTC's warranty nonsense and readreadread before you flash
